Sorry folks, this is unbetaed.
Hmmm, summary. Angsty and kind of random. Not a humor fic. Set at the end of GT.
This in response to Jay Goose's April Fools drabble suggestion. Although it has very little to do with the humor usually associated with that holiday.
April’s Fools
Vegeta meditated on the battleground long after Kakarott had gone of with that insufferable eternal dragon and everyone the dolt had considered a friend had left.
The loss of Shenlong wasn’t a bad thing, by the Prince’s way of thinking. The Earth’s dragon had served its purpose well a couple of times by resurrecting him, but the overgrown lizard had messed up too many plans, too many times. This last intercession though, Kakarott wishing baldy back and trading his life for it? That was just too much.
The goody-goody human want-to-be really was a dullard. The Prince understood that now. Vegeta had heard about almost every time Goku told Krillan, or anyone else, he thought the Prince could reform or that the Prince had changed. Vegeta chuckled and then spoke what was on his mind, “That I would want to change?” The thought really was ludicrous.
No, the whole while Goku was trying to prove his righteousness about having let Vegeta live, Vegeta was waiting for the day when Kakarott would recover. It was only a matter of time.
There were several living reasons that it could happen: that it should have already happened. Loss of loved ones should have been the shock necessary to bring Kakarott back to his senses, but of course, this is where Shenlong’s interference was most noticeable. Goku was always able to keep his sanity intact, knowing in the back of his mind the dragon could make it all better with just a wish.
Vegeta growled, “Dragons make people complacent.”
Vegeta had resigned himself to wait until the deaths of Goku’s loved ones happened naturally: when the dragon could do nothing about them. He had wondered how the third class would lose his composure. Would it be slowly? A piece at a time with each death: cracks developing in Goku’s demeanor until there was nothing left to hold it together. Or would it just take one death? The true loss of his half-demon wife? Of course, waiting for her death may take decades: centuries even. Who knew how long a half-demon bitch could live?
Vegeta had no idea of how Kakarott could have stood bedding that creature. Her faint sulfuric smell alone caused the Prince to keep his distance. The mongrel brats didn’t smell much better: the battling scents of demon and sayian just confused the fuck out of his senses. Vegeta lamented that it must be his son’s human side that enabled the lavender-haired pansy to play with the Kakarott-look-alike abomination daily.
Of course, all the cross breeding did have potential. Kakarott’s spawns both had held unimaginable power. The magnitude of which became mind boggling, even terrifying if thought about too closely. Maybe it had been a Kai send that the harpy had wanted her children to behave human so badly. They never had a chance to acquire a taste for true power. “The Hellions could have put Freiza to shame by the time Buu was defeated.”
One other thing had had Vegeta trying the hurry Kakarott’s rehabilitation. The orange: that color had to go!
The Prince had a theory on the loss of smell and the obvious color blindness. The same hit to the head that had fashioned Kakarott’s memory loss must have also caused other brain damage.
Vegeta congratulated himself for his amazing fortitude. He had been willing to wait centuries for his last subject to come to roost. Of course his patience had achieved nil. Any chance to see the plebeian heal had slipped away on the back of that asinine dragon.
Now there was nothing left for him here. “I might as will finish what I came to do in the first place,” he sighed to himself as a desolate wind blew. Of course, technically it wasn’t necessary for him to complete the mission Kakarott had been sent to do over three decades in the past: Frieza was dead. “Not necessary, but a matter of Sayian Pride.”
He even knew what day he would finish the mission. The human’s had a day to celebrate idiots. It would be a perfect send off for his last subject and a way to show his regret for his own futile hopes.

It had been so easy to wheedle a space ship from the onna days later on the pretense he needed to mourn for the simpleton in sayian fashion. Something he explained couldn’t be done properly on the mud ball itself.
He left out crucial details on how he planned to mourn for Kakarott.

Vegeta grinned at the beautiful picture on the LCD display. The residual ki sparks were brilliant. Chunks of planet could be seen floating listlessly: the suns gravity not yet pulling the pieces towards itself. Even the ice crystals from the water that hadn’t evaporated in the blasts could be seen: vast seas of blue now shards of frigid gray against the darkness of space.
Everything else was lost because of the distance required for viewing safely. “Ah well, I don’t think anything combustible actually lasted beyond that third blast anyway. I wonder if they ever figured it out,” Vegeta smirked, “Too late to do anything if they did.”
“Hn. Fools indeed.”
Vegeta set the navigation for planet Namek. Wouldn’t do to have another dragon become meddlesome.
