My Dragonblader…
An
Escaflowne/Beyblade Crossover.
This is a Yaoi, Kai/Rei, Tala/Max,
Zeo/Tyson, Tyson/Kenny fiction, and may become lemony later on. Do not flame me for some of the
families/pairings in this story.
Disclaimer: I do not own Beyblade or Escaflowne,
but I do own the ideas, so no lawsuits okay.
Basic Summary: The
Bladebreakers find access to Gaia, and find that Dilandau has a new squadron of
Slayers called the DragonBladers, led by his…son? During their abduction, they discover their
captors to look awfully familiar, and Kai finds that in this universe his dream
has come true, but can he make the dream his own?
Chapter 1: The summoning.
“Go Dragoooon!”
Tyson was as usual totally
absorbed in the training between himself and Kai; the blue-haired Russian
rolled his eyes at Tyson’s zeal.
“Battle on Dranzer.” His cool voice gave an order that couldn’t be
disobeyed to his blade, which obeyed with deadly accuracy, slamming into
Dragoon and catapulting the silver blade into space, as it bounced back into
the waiting palm of its master.
“Hey no fair Kai!” Tyson protested. “Chief, was that fair?” Tyson beseeched his lover for help.
Lovers? Kai sighed inwardly, for Kenny and Tyson had
been lovers for at least a month in secret.
Except to Kai, who had run into them during one of their secret
liaisons, and considering the position of the Chief’s hands, it was obvious
that Dizzara’s buttons weren’t the only things
he could press. They’d begged him not to
tell anyone about their secret, and so far he had been true to them by not
telling a soul…
“Sorry Tyson.” Kenny shook his head, trying to ignore the
adorable pout that his lover was pulling.
“You weren’t creating any kind of defence against Kai, you might have
stood a chance if you had. But, it was a
little bit brutal, even by Kai’s standards I must admit!”
Kai rolled his eyes, and
walked away from the stadium, until a certain voice turned his boots to lead.
“Well, I for one think it was very unfair.” A slightly melodious yet evidently masculine voice
rang out. “Kai knows that’s an illegal
move in terms of official battle; he told me specifically. If he pulled that stunt, he’d be disqualified
instantly.”
Kai’s heart sank as he
turned to see Rei leaning against the doorframe, looking pristine and beautiful
even with the scowl and frown disfiguring his fine features. His eyes haughtily passed up and down Kai
with an expression off, not disgust, but disappointment, as though Kai had
failed him yet again. If only Kai had
not denied his feelings when Rei challenged him about a snide comment Bryan had
given him…
~*Kai’s point of View*~
It’s the end of another tournament and though I love the sport, it’ll be
good to rest. Rei will want a shower
when he gets back to our quarters, and I can’t do it but I long to go in with
him and see his beauty in all that it should be, without the confinements of
clothing. I wish he’d look up at me with
his beautiful eyes and treat me to a smile full of love. I want to run my hands through his hair and
hear him purr…Oh god I know he will purr.
Driger is more a part of him than a bitbeast. I love him, but I need to admit it before he
can be mine, or I fear I may scare him before long. He’s noticed how often I gaze at him. If I can find the courage, tonight I’ll…
“Hey Catboy!”
Bryan, that crude one-time
ally of mine! How dare he interrupt my
fantas- I mean thoughts. He’s gone
toward my beloved Rei, and the poor kitten looks terrified of him still. I’ll go over and intervene.
Bryan’s looked up at me now,
but he can’t scare me, even with that smirk on his face. He’s looking back at Rei.
“Looky Catboy, it’s loverboy
here to rescue you.”
The sound of his words fills
me with dread; it isn't the time for my love to know. He turns to look at me, his eyes wide and unbelieving,
before he looks back at Bryan with a scowl.
"Kai isn't my
boyfriend." He snaps. Not for long my love with any luck, I think
to myself. "Kai isn't even gay. Goes to show how much you know about him."
"As if you know how
much I know Kai! We grew up together you
stupid feline bitch! He looks at you in
the same way as he looked at Tala, and they went out together!"
"You…you're
lying." Rei stutters, as he backs
away from Bryan. For good reason too,
Bryan spooks even me when he's in one of his moods.
"That's enough
Bryan!" I snap as he leers at my
love.
"Why don't you ask him
if you're so sure?" He sneers. Rei gags, probably from the smell of stale
vodka on Bryan's breath. "Go on
then, Catboy. Prove to me that I don't
know Kai as well as you."
My heart pounds fast as Rei
turns and walks up to me, his eyes wide and full of fear as he looks at
me. Oh those beautiful eyes of
gold! But they're looking at me for the
wrong reasons. God I'm so scared. If I were in a bar or a pub I'd down my drink
in one at this minute, but there's no home country courage for me. Even vodka can't help me now.
"Kai…?" He speaks so low that it's barely a whisper,
but I can still hear the tremor in his voice.
"Bryan says…uh…Bryan says that you're…um…you're attracted to me in
some way. Uh…is it…well is it
true?" He takes a step closer. "Do you fancy me?"
I panic and a cold sweat
forms on my brow. I reply without
thinking.
"No of course not. Why would I fancy you? I think you're good-looking I guess, but who
am I to judge because I don't think of you as attractive of course. Obviously.
We're just friends, and teammates.
Yes. I mean, we hardly really
know each other, so it'd be a bit weird if I fancied you, which I don't.
Um."
What a jerk am I? Out of the corner of my eye I see Bryan
biting on his fist so that I can't see him laughing. But one look at Rei tells me he isn't amused.
His eyes look watery, as
if-oh god no-they're full of tears, and disappointment. How stupid can I get? My love was looking at me with hope, not
fear. He wanted me to admit my feelings, not deny them. I've just been given a perfect opportunity
and I blew it big time. I have to tell
him the truth.
"Rei, I…"
"Don't worry
Kai." He whispers. "You've said enough." Glaring at me, he turns to that idiot Bryan.
"There! Happy now?
You've embarrassed Kai and made me look like a moron, so will you please
leave me alone!"
"Well," Bryan
leers, running his tongue over his teeth; "if Kai doesn't want you then
you can always…consider my offer."
I notice with horror that
Bryan keeps eyeing Rei up, and keeps licking his lips. I shudder to think what's going through that
filthy mind of his. As I glance across
at Rei, I see that he's noticed too. He
shudders and steps up to Bryan.
"Thanks, but like I
said before I'm not interested." He
sweeps away, gracefully at first sight, but I've seen Rei move like oil through
water, and I know that he's only a step away from running. He scowls at me as he walks by, and I know
I've ruined my chances of ever being with him.
I stiffly walk to the men's room, and start to cry.
~* Author's POV *~
"Thanks for the BBA lecture Rei, but I
know that. Anyway it isn't illegal in
world-class tournaments because I saw the Demolition Boys and the Dark Bladers use the same strategy." Kenny frowned and adjusted his glasses
"Oh really? I hope you aren't forgetting that the
Demolition Boys cheated their way to the top, but nobody dared to say
anything. What about what Bryan did to
me? Wha-"
"Woah Rei! Easy on the temper buddy." Max laughed as he walked into the stadium,
and patted Rei's shoulder. "You're
right about the Demolition Boys, but don't take it out on the Chief."
Rei snarled like a tiger,
and walked out haughtily.
"Man." Tyson sighed, sitting as close to Kenny as he
could so he could stroke his lover's hand without being seen. "What's up with Rei? He used to be the first to jump to Kai's
defence, but now he's arguing with everyone, even Kenny." Kai saw the lovers clasp hands; Kenny had
been upset by Rei's outburst. "He's
turned into a major jerk."
"Maybe he's just upset
about something." Kenny protested.
"Yeah Tyson. You know how secretive he is." Max sighed in his laid back, no-nonsense
manner. "He'll tell us in his own
time what's wrong, but until then we just put up with him. He's a good buddy to all of us so we've gotta be cool about it. Right, guys?"
Kenny and Tyson nodded in
agreement; Kai shut his eyes in assent.
Suddenly, Max's cell phone
rang to herald the arrival of a text message.
Max's eyes widened as though he'd forgotten something.
"Uh, I'd love to stay
and hang out with you guys but I've just remembered that I gotta go. See ya tomorrow 'kay?" With that he ran out of the door before
anyone had a chance to reply.
"You okay Kenny?"
Tyson asked, kissing the chief on the head.
"Yeah I guess
so." Kenny sighed, leaning against
Tyson slightly. "Rei just made me
jump. He's never actually shouted at me
before."
"I know. I don't care what Max thinks, he was out of
order."
"Tyson," the
lovers jumped at Kai's quiet intervention, having completely forgotten he was
there, "Rei might have a lot on his mind, or be stressed out. Don't be so quick to bitch about him."
With that he left the two to
their own devices, and their privacy. As
he left he heard the door slide shut behind him and a giggle that presumably
came from the Chief. Kai sighed. He didn't know how far Kenny and Tyson had
taken their relationship, but was jealous of their love. He wished that he had something…anything…with Rei that even resembled
love. Before he'd made a mess of their
friendship at least he and Rei had been close.
"Oh Rei!" He groaned inwardly. "Please forgive me. I'll do anything just to see you smile at me
again." He stared ahead at a figure
in the distance. "And I'll die to
get it if I have to."
* * *
Rei sighed; this was one of his favourite
views of Tyson's neighbourhood, at the embankment by the river. Normally it cheered him up no end to come
here, but it seemed he was just too unhappy.
How could he have been so
cruel to Kai? That manoeuvre surely
wasn't so dreadful after all. But he had
to be nasty to Kai no matter how much he loved the cold Russian after he'd
turned him down so…homophobically. Kai
had freaked out when Rei had let his feeling show just a little.
And yet…and yet…when Kai had
started crying in the bathroom. Rei
still couldn't understand the events he'd heard on that dreadful day…
~* Rei's POV *~
How could he be like
that? How? All my feelings for him can't be so wrong
they just can't! I love him so much that
it hurts to even think about him. Oh Kai
how could you be a homophobe after all these months of dreaming, longing, for us to be together? I’ve waited so long for this, only to find
that it cannot be. I don’t think I’ll
ever be able to stop crying, especially now that I know the only guy I can pull
is Bryan.
I hear the door opening and
stop crying at once. Who can that
be? I don’t want them to hear me cry,
especially if it’s Bryan. The last thing
I need is him perving on me, and goodness knows what he will try to do to me if
he gets me alone!
My heart threatens to burst
from my chest as I peer under the door of my cubicle, trying to get some clue
as to who my companion is.
White shoes, baggy blue trousers,
and the tail of a thin white scarf… Kai Hiwatari! My heart skips a beat and I almost call out
his name. Could it be that he's come to
find me? I didn't see him but sometimes
I don't until he's beside me, and I always suspect, but never know, that he's
been looking at me. But he blatantly
told me to my face that he doesn't fancy me.
I don't understand what it is that he's doing here, and anyway I don't
want him to see that I've been crying like a kitten. My face is probably all red and my eyes
always look like they've been made out of glass for hours afterwards. Not flattering, especially when you want to
flirt with a guy!
It is at this moment that I
actually pay attention to what Kai's doing.
His breathing is harsh and ragged, and he's making this strange gulping
noise, as though is trying to keep something back. God I hope he isn't going to puke, or I'd have to come out and help him. You can't ignore a puking man; no matter how
big a crush you have on them after all.
He's leaning against the basins anyway, and the breathing's definitely
getting worse, and now the gulps are more like moans now. He must be in pain, so I stand up to open the
door.
But then I hear him start to
cry, and not just the love-struck whimpering that I've been doing. He's practically howling with tears, what can
be wrong with him? I didn't think Kai
knew how to cry if I'm honest! His
sobbing begins to take on a word that anyone without the sharp ears of a
neko-jin would not detect: "Why?"
Kai becomes increasingly
literate: "Why me? Why do I always
screw up?"
What can be the meaning of
this strange mantra? As I ponder I hear
him run into a cubicle and lock the door with a sharp click. He's sat in the cubicle directly next to me!
I could ask him what's wrong; after all, we are at least friends. But as I open my mouth I panic. What if he freaks out that I heard his
weakness? What if he gets angry and does
something to hurt me or him? I can't get
the words out no matter how hard I try.
I cry out with anguish as I throw open my door and run out of the
bathroom. As I leave I hear the cubicle
door open and hear Kai's voice:
"Who's
there?" I've never heard him sound
so vulnerable, and yet the sound of his voice terrifies me enough that I can't
go back and admit my identity. So I run
and run like the coward that I have so often chided myself to be, until I get
to the stadium and into the sanctuary of my teammates. Kenny and Tyson are sat close together as
usual, and Max is leaning against the wall texting on his cell phone. I quietly sit down and pick up a
magazine. Max pulls his phone closer to
his chest; clearly he does not want me to see what he is sending. But as I try-and fail-to get interested in my
magazine, all I can think about is Kai…
~* Author's POV *~
Rei sighed and buried his
head into his knees.
"Oh Kai…" He
groaned.
"What?" A gruff voice replied. Rei's head spun round to see Kai stood above
him. Kai carefully shielded his
emotions, and grunted. "Can I sit
with you, or am I not even worthy to breathe the same air as you any more? Don't worry I haven't got anything."
Rei shook his head as though
coming out of a daze. "Um, no…no of
course not. Sit down if you
like." He patted the grass next to
him. "Uh…I guess I wanted to talk
to you anyway."
Kai quickly sat down,
relishing in the close proximity of his beloved. "Talk to me? About what?"
Rei sat up straight and
turned his head to face Kai. "I
want to say that I'm sorry. About how
I've been treating you since what happened between us after Bryan messed things
up."
"You don't need to
apologise to me…"
"No, please. Let me say this or I'll lose my
nerve." Rei closed his eyes and
took a deep breath before opening them again.
"When Bryan told me that you…liked
me and I came up to ask you myself, I was…oh God how can I say
this…disappointed by your reaction?
Well, I guess it wasn't your fault, what with Bryan being there and
making it worse. I got really upset and
I've been a complete prat to you ever since, hurting the others as well. I also…uh…do you remember when you went to
the toilet after I left?" Kai's
head shot up.
"So it was you!" He gasped.
"I wondered but when I came to ask you wouldn't speak to me."
"I know. I thought that if I didn't act like I hated
you I'd let out how I really…felt."
Rei's voice trailed off to a whisper, and then his eyes widened. "Oh God did I just say it? Anyway, I guessed you've worked out that I
heard you crying, and I thought it was probably to do with me, but I couldn't
say anything in case I upset you. I'm
such a chicken sometimes I know that but…" Rei turned to look at Kai,
"I couldn't stop thinking about it."
Kai's eyes were wide and he
appeared even paler. Sweat covered his
brow and he was visibly breathing heavily.
Rei gulped.
"I've upset you,
haven't I?" His golden eyes filled
with tears. Kai blinked and shook his
head.
"No…" his voice
was so soothing that Rei started "no of course you haven't. It just hasn't worked out the way I always
thought it would."
Rei half-smiled, then felt
stupid as he said: "Wh-what hasn't?"
Kai also half-smiled. "This.
Us…being like this, talking about this.
I guess I spend way too much time with Beyblades because I always
thought I'd tell you in a tournament."
He laughed. "Man I'm
sad! Anyway, I never thought that you
and I would even speak to each other again after what happened. When that idiot told you how I felt I could
have died! I panicked when you came up
to me and asked me. Normally I can tell
what you're thinking by looking into your eyes, they're so expressive and
beautiful. I guess in my panic I thought
you were looking at me in horror because I might just be gay and fancy you!
So I lied, and made a complete fool of myself whilst I was doing
it. I thought I was telling you what you
wanted to hear, but I ended up hurting us both.
It must have been the situation."
Rei smiled a seductively
flirty smile that made Kai blush.
"So," He purred, "if I were to ask you the same question,
would I get a different answer?"
Kai smiled. "Why don't you ask me?"
Rei giggled."
Okay. Kai, do you fancy me?"
Kai wrapped his arms around
Rei's tiny waist and smiled again.
"Of course I do."
Rei looked deeper into Kai's
beautiful red eyes, not noticing that he was leaning closer and closer until
their lips brushed in a gentle kiss.
Rei's eyes fluttered shut as his slender arms curled themselves around
Kai's neck. Kai's left hand pushed Rei's
head further into the kiss as his own eyes closed. The most experienced lover by far, Kai parted
his lips and gently pressed his tongue against Rei's lips, pleading for
entry. Only a second later Rei parted
his lips and gave a small sigh as his new lover's tongue entered his
mouth. Gently, Kai used his body to push
Rei down onto the soft grass and position himself above him. Rei hesitated by this sudden change in
embrace but conceded by pushing his own tongue into Kai's welcoming mouth.
Kai groaned; Rei's mouth was
so warm, and tasted so sweet. His hair
was soft and as silky as hair could ever be.
His lips were soft and oh so gentle!
The warmth of his body caused a strange sensation to course down Kai’s
own body like pure electricity.
Finally the lovers were
forced to break away from their personal haven by the need for air. As their mouths broke apart they were panting
and flushed, but blissfully in awe of one another. Kai and Rei stared lovingly into one
another’s eyes, still in their embrace, their noses millimetres apart so that
they could feel one another’s breath.
“Wow…” Rei panted “I never
thought it would be that good!”
Kai smiled, and kissed him
again. “Neither did I.”
“Really? I can’t have been that good to you. I’m so inexperienced, I thought I’d be really
sloppy…”
Kai bushed his fingers over
Rei’s lips, masking the sudden jolt of concern that ran through him. “Why did you think that?” he whispered, but
thought worriedly: Rei’s normally so confident; he’s good at everything he
does. Why now is he so vulnerable and
self-conscious? Could it be that the Rei
we know is just a front.
Rei shrugged. “I don’t know. I just…didn’t think I’d be any good.” His eyes were pleading: Please don’t make me
talk about it. Kai realized with alarm
that there was something…painful in Rei’s past, shining in those golden orbs in
a way that he had seen in Tala’s eyes all those years ago when they had been
together.
“Oh, okay. But you weren’t sloppy, you are actually a
good kisser.” He looked at the sky. “I think we’d better get back to Tyson’s now,
it’s getting dark. He stood up with Rei,
and their gazes wavered in the direction of Tyson’s dojo.
“You’re right.” Rei smiled.
“I guess they’re all going to get a shock when we get there.”
Kai laughed. “Yeah.”
“I hope they don’t freak out
about it.”
“They won’t.” Kai smiled.
At least, Tyson and Kenny won’t, he thought. “Come on, we’d better be going.” He reached for Rei’s hand. Rei wound his fingers around Kai’s and
winked.
“Time to face the music.”
Together they walked the
short distance home, their hands entwined, proving to the world that they loved
each other.
They walked into the dojo
hand in hand as well. As they entered
they saw Tyson and Max training as usual.
Kai squeezed Rei’s hand in encouragement as Kenny looked up. The tilt of his head suggested that his gaze
had fallen to their clasped hands, then returned to their faces. Rei blushed at the Chief’s scrutiny; Kai
returned the stare. Kenny shrugged, and
returned to his laptop as though nothing had happened.
Rei looked bewildered, as
though he’d expected the Chief to freak out.
Kai almost laughed; he’d forgotten that Rei didn’t know! Best just to get on with things now. The two of them walked past Tyson and Max,
still hand in hand to the kitchen. Their
team mates immediately stopped their battle and stared at the lovers. Kai hesitated as he remembered that although
Tyson would accept their love, he didn’t know about Max! The sugar addict’s mouth was opened slightly,
his position frozen by what was stood before his eyes. Rei turned to face him fully, and scowled
slightly. Max blinked then shook his head.
“Um, sorry. I didn’t think you two would ever get
together.” He smiled. Both lovers coloured, expecting a
confrontation.
“Yeah, we thought you liked
each other since you both started acting weird around each other during the
Asian Tournament.” Tyson beamed.
“Kenny and Dizzy tried to work out your compatibility.”
“99% compatible.” The nerd and the laptop chorused. The Chief continued happily:
“You’re like the opposite
ends of a magnet; you’d get together all the time unless something got in your
way. Max figured that you just didn’t
dare tell each other.”
Rei smiled as Kai’s arm
wrapped lovingly around his shoulders.
“I guess there’s some truth in that.”
He agreed. Max nodded, now he was
definitely alone. “I’m glad he smiled,
then shivered. “Think it’s going to
rain. You guys wanna
go in for some sodas?”
“Sure.” Kai’s smile suddenly shocked all four team
mates, and then Rei laughed.
“Come on, let’s go inside.
* * *
It was quarter to midnight
when Rei opened his eyes to the sound of crying. After realising that Kai was still asleep, he
broke from their sleeping embrace and sat up to see Max crying on his bed.
“Max?” the blonde started by his companion’s voice.
“Rei? I-I thought you were asleep!”
“I was, but I’m a light
sleeper. What’s the matter?”
Max sighed. “It sounds really selfish…”
“Well it obviously isn’t to
you. What’s wrong?” Rei sat down at the foot of Kai’s bed. While they had been watching TV Tyson and Max
had pushed Rei and Kai’s beds together so the lovers could sleep together. Rei had been really touched when he’d come
in, and Kai had smiled.
Max choked on a sob. “It’s not fair!” He sobbed.
Rei snapped out of his thoughts, and looked up. Max continued.
“Everyone here’s got
someone, you know? You and Kai, Tyson
and The Chief…”
“Tyson and who?” Rei blinked at this revelation. Max gestured wildly at the two, curled up
together in Kenny’s bed, their arms wrapped around one another.
Rei sweatdropped. “Oh.”
He managed. Max snorted.
“They think we don’t know
they do it!” Tears welled up again. “But when I can’t sleep I see them and it
just reminds me that…I haven’t got a boyfriend!” He began to cry as Rei put his arm around
him.
“Hey don’t worry, you’ll
find someone. No you will,” he said as
Max shook his head “I thought you said that you thought something would happen
between you and Tala?
That’s what you told me last week!”
Max looked up. “Oh yeah, I thought something would
happen, until he mentioned that he was going out with Bryan.”
“Hm,
well that isn’t exactly a relationship with firm foundations is it?” Rei’s voice turned soothing. “Anyway, it’s obvious that he likes you, or
he wouldn’t keep texting you and meeting up with you,
would he?”
“Guess not.” Max looked up. “But that doesn’t mean that he likes me, just
that he sees me as a pal.”
Rei shrugged. “That’s how most relationships start
Max.” The blonde looked at him. “Really?
You sure?”
“Would I say it if I
wasn’t?” Rei hugged Max. “Now go back to sleep.”
As Rei snuggled into his bed
with his lover, he noticed that there was an orb partly shadowing the
moon. Had he but thought further, he
mightn’t have dismissed it as a lunar eclipse so quickly…

The child ran, his red hair
trailing behind him like a comet of fire.
Thorns and bracken ripped across his legs, causing him to falter, but he
never stopped. How could he, when the
demons of hell were behind him.
Eventually, there was no
more ground to run; a sheer cliff stopped him and he turned to face the
armada. He was going to die; thieves
were executed in Gaia under the law of Dilandau Albatou. There was
no choice now.
Shaking, he took out the
silvery stone on the chain that he was being chased for. The tool of his trade. Gaia’s only source
of hope. The Platinstone.
Raising the chain above his
head and flinging his head to the sky, he focused all his remaining energy on
entering the psychic plane.
“Spirits of the Mystic
Moon, hear thy servant’s plea! Grant me
one wish of your power. Summon for me
the warriors strong enough to battle the evils of the Dragonbladers,
and purify my world.
Into your hands I pour my
life, for the sake of my people accept my sacrifice…”
From the Platinstone
rose a beam of light directed straight for the Mystic Moon as the death scream
of its owner rang through the night in a clash of metal and fire.
…The Mystic Moon…
…Earth…
…Japan…
* * *
The sleeping summoned did
not wake as they were lifted from their beds into the beam of light, but were
woken as they landed in Gaia, fully clothed, their beyblades
in their hands.
“What the-?” Rei began, but
his voice drifted off as he noted the sword to his throat.
“Who are you? What are you doing here?”
