Crystal sat in her classroom. She was bored, but there were only twenty more minutes before school recessed for the day. She was sitting in her publications class, waiting for her newest newspaper assignment. As a senior, she would get one of the top choices. As the feature editor, she was bound to get the one she really wanted.
“And for our feature staff,” The Editor in Chief was saying, “Along with the latest movies out, there is also a new exhibit at the Kazan Museum of Art. The life and works of Salvador Dali opened today, and I would like someone to cover that. “
Crystal immediately perked her head up. A new exhibit at the museum? That was her ticket to a free visit to the Dali show. Something she had been wanting to see since she had read about it in the city’s newspaper. Every day they were given their new assignments, they were given the last fifteen minutes to divide the stories, and as the editor for her section, it was her job to divvy out the stories to her staff of three. She immediately told them that she would be covering the museum, which brought looks of relief to her classmates. She furrowed her brow, knowing that most seventeen year olds wouldn’t want to spend their time after school at a boring museum looking at boring paintings, and listening to boring music. She gave each of the writers their own assignments, and the bell rang signaling the end of the school day. Crys walked back to her seat, picked up her bag, packed away her notebooks, and with a sigh of happiness, walked out of the room.

Lauren tapped her pencil on her notebook absentmindedly. She was waiting for her professor to assign them the essay she knew he would assign them, and then finally, after the hour lecture, dismiss them. All the hard work of note taking and concentrating paid off when the World Literature professor said loudly,
“Your next essay, will be on a non-American author of your choice. It will be a five page essay, complete with cover page and bibliography. You are to complete a biography, a detailed list of his or her works, a time line of when the works were released, and why you chose that particular author.”
Lauren wrote this all down, and tapped the pencil tip on the paper, scattering little graphite particles on it. She took her finger and rubbed the black specks into the paper, making a smeared mess. She looked at her finger, and her blue eyes darkened.
“Stupid!” She whispered to herself. She vaguely heard the professor dismiss them but she sat there, waiting for the other students to leave. She wasn’t in any hurry to get home, seeing as how neither of her sisters would be there. This was her last class for the day and she didn’t want to go home to an empty house. When the rest of the room had emptied, Ren picked up her notebook, and slowly walked out of the room.

Nicole used the box cutter to gently cut open the cardboard holding the newest additions to her junk store, Houseki’s Treasure. Shiny new Cd’s with the artist’s face in negative. Nic picked up Hyde’s album 666 and looked at the cover lovingly. She petted the picture, gave the disc a brief hug and placed it on the shelf. She followed suit with the other twenty three copies, and took the empty box into the store room. She walked back out and looked around, throwing her long blonde hair over her shoulder. The items that cluttered the shelves varied from the Hyde discs she just put out, to t-shirts of anime, to collectable figures of everything. She was even known to stock live animals, one of which was the ball python that was currently curled contentedly around her neck. She looked at all the different things and couldn’t pick one thing she liked over another thing.
She heard the bell over the door ring, and she walked up to the counter, where she could see the person who had just walked in. A tall lanky man had walked into the store. His hair was long and dark and he had on a rather rumpled looking blue suit. He walked around a little, looking from item to item. Nic smiled at the customer as he walked up to the counter, holding a rather beautiful baby Savannah Monitor. Nic looked from the man to the monitor, and back again. She took a deep breath, and with smile firmly in place, she said, “I’m sorry, but this guy isn’t ready to go home with anyone just yet. He’s getting acclimated from his shipment in, and I need to keep him here for awhile until he is available for sale.”
The man looked at her, and the corners of his mouth twitched down a little. “But I was in here a little less than a month ago, and you said the same thing. About this same animal!” The man balled his fist angrily. “Are you planning on selling him or not?”
“I’m sorry sir, but I can’t put the animal in danger by selling him to someone who has anger issues.” Nic replied, and watched as the man stormed out of the store. She picked up the monitor and cuddled him. “You are safe now baby.” She said gently. She took the animal back to its cage and laid it inside. Coming back to the counter, she looked up at the clock on the wall, and decided after the stressful morning she had had, it was time for lunch. She put the snake in it’s cage, and walked from the building, locking up behind her. As she walked past the shops, she looked inside each one, seeing what her competition was. Suddenly she stopped dead in her tracks. Inside what looked to be a comic book store, was a two and a half foot plush Kirara from Inuyasha. Nic squealed with happiness at the thought of how wonderful that would look in her bedroom. On her waterbed. Guarding her other, less menacing plushies. She ran into the store, screaming about buying the demon cat.
Alphonse walked into the back room at the Kazan Museum of Art and stared and the clunky suit of armor that he was expected to wear to give tours of the museum. He wasn’t sure why they wanted him to wear armor, but at first he had found it kinda fun. It had been his brother Ed’s idea for him to volunteer somewhere, because the older brother didn’t want him wandering the streets. Al had chosen the museum because the thought of dressing up in a suit of armor, for some reason, had always appealed to him. It seemed like something he had already done, in a past life maybe. The biggest problem wasn’t wearing it, it was getting into it. It was very awkward and could really be annoying. He stood up, having put on the lower half of the suit. The sixteen year old clanked into the outer room of the break room looking for someone to help him lift the top half over his head. He found a custodian, who helped him, despite the fact that the man was laughing so hard he almost dropped the armor twice. Al still thanked the man kindly and clattered on his merry way to the museum floor. He looked around, seeing a bigger crowd than usual on a weekday, then he remembered that the Dali exhibit opened today. There was bound to be all kinds of reporters around, and the chance that there would be students from his school showing up to write a report on Dali for extra credit, which just meant that Al had to make sure he hid well in his armor, so that nobody would recognize him. As if God himself had come and put a hand in, Al was immediately given a tour to lead. The Dali exhibit was the very last stop on this hour tour, which meant he had plenty of time to stay away from the lime light.
“Hello everyone, my name is....Edward, and I will be your guide today.” He said loud enough for everyone to hear him.
******
Edward sat behind the bright yellow counter with the blue trim. He stared down at his blue shirt and yellow name tag and he sighed. This was not a job for someone of his caliber. Not even as the top paid ‘Geek’ in the squad was he living up to his potential. He was eighteen years old now! He had graduated high school a year early, and was waiting for his brother Al to graduate before going off to college together. Until that time, he was forced to make a living working in this place fixing people’s computers. Today had been a very slow day, and he was still here for another three hours. As he sat behind the counter looking out, he thought of his brother. He was at the museum right now, dressed in that hilarious suit of armor(which somehow seemed to be perfect for him), and giving tours to people who knew nothing about the art they were looking at. He put his head in his hands and lazily blew a few strands of blonde bangs out of his eyes. He watched as people came into the store, walked around the store, purchased things from the store, and walked out of the store.
“Grrr.” He mumbled. “Someone needs to come over here, and at least give me something to do!”
“Maybe you should stand on your chair so they can see you.” Ed heard from behind him. “They probably think nobody is even here.” Ed whipped around and saw his friend, Roy, walking toward the exit.
“Who are you callin’ so short they can’t see over the counter?” The blonde screamed. He leapt over the counter and fisted Roy’s blue suit, wrinkling it.
“That would be you, Ed.” Roy said smoothly, pulling away from the younger man “I’m going to go over to that little junk store to pick up the Monitor , so I will give you a call tonight when I get home alright?”
“Yeah, whatever.” Ed grumbled, as he watched the older man leave. He then went back to the desk and resumed his people watching.
******
Roy needed to pick up some things from Ed’s store. There was a surround sound wire that he needed to make his system work. He needed to pick that up before he went to get his new pet. This being his only day off, he had so much to get done. As the chief of police he didn’t get a whole lot of time to himself, and when he did, he needed to take full advantage of it. Another mark in his favor was that it was actually a really nice day and he didn’t have to wear his coat. As he walked into the store, he walked stealthily past Ed and grabbed his speaker wire. Then he paid for his item and walked toward the ‘Geek Squad’ desk. He noticed that the blonde was just sitting at the desk looking bored. Then he heard Ed say something about people coming over to the counter. This was an opportunity too great for Roy to ignore. He ran his fingers through his black hair and said, “Maybe you should stand on your chair so they can see you.”
A few minutes later, having been assaulted by the midget in the blue polo for a comment he had found rather amusing, he walked from the store, trying to wipe the wrinkles from his suit. It was time for him to get the monitor from that Houseki’s Treasure store, and the owner was pretty cute. He wanted to look his best. Not that it was really an issue. If Roy Mustang wanted a woman, he would get her. He arrived at the store about ten minutes later, checked himself once more, and walked up to the door. When he went in, he saw the owner standing in the back, a snake wrapped around her neck. It was a shame, because she had very pretty hair. It was long and blonde, and currently had a snake moving through it. Roy was not here for a snake or a date, he was here for one beautiful Savannah Monitor. He had come into the store almost a month ago, and she had told him that the lizard would need time to acclimate after being shipped in. He hadn’t pushed it, and given a month. He went to the cage and pulled the monitor from it, grabbing it like he had been taught when he had owned the last one ten years or so ago. He took it up to the counter and the woman had the gall to tell him that this same monitor still wasn’t acclimated. He balled his hands into fists and he raised his voice a little. He couldn’t believe she was being so stubborn about this. He was really looking forward to having the animal at home.
“I’m sorry sir, but I can’t put the animal in danger by selling him to someone who has anger issues.” She said to him now, infuriating him enough that he just stormed from the building. He didn’t know why he let her get to him so much. He walked down a little ways and sat on a bench in between a restaurant and a comic book store and tried to calm himself down. He just couldn’t believe she would be so attached to an animal she had been wanting to sell. How did that shop stay open if she wasn’t willing to part with anything? He looked around and a swish of gold caught his eye. There she was! She was running into the comic book store like she was on fire. He started to walk there too wanting to find out what her problem was. When he was about ten feet from the door, it flew open and she came running out, struggling to drag an enormous stuffed animal.
“Stop that woman!” Someone called from inside the store.

Crys walked into the Kazan Museum of Art and looked around. It wasn’t hard to see where the Dali exhibit was because of the amount of people surrounding it. She walked over and looked around at the different paintings most having to do with his work in Surrealism. She took some notes on the different styles, making sure to note the way the paintings looked textured, but smooth at the same time. She allowed herself only a few minutes of enjoyment before looking around for someone she could interview. She heard an interesting clanking noise, and turned to see a suit of armor coming directly at her. She blinked a few times, and smiled, realizing that the suit of armor was actually giving a tour. She waited until the tour was over, and the big metal arm was waving at the tourists, before making her way over and knocking on the back of the metal shirt.
“Hello?” She said, smiling.
The person turned to her. “Oh, hello. I’m sorry the tour is over, did you have a question?”
She nodded, “Actually, I was wondering if I could ask you a few questions.” Crys said, getting into reporter mode.
“Umm, sure, I guess so, but would you mind if I got out of this thing, it’s a little hot in here.” Al said chuckling a little.
“Oh! Sure, no problem, I will be right here.”
Al went back to the break room and tried to hurriedly wiggle out of the suit, knowing damn well that there was no wiggling out of it. He had no problem with the bottom half and he got it off in a few seconds, but he had both arms out when he realized that he was stuck in the top half.
“Umm, can someone help me?” He said meekly to what he knew to be an empty room. He sighed and walked back toward the door leading out to the floor. He used sheer weight to push it open, as the arms of the suit were now completely useless. The first person he saw was the short blonde girl who had just been talking to him. He groaned. This was the last person he wanted to ask for help. Seeing as he had no choice, because she had caught sight of him and was already walking over, he met her and laughed nervously.
“Umm, could you help me maybe?” He said, “I seem to be stuck in here.”
“Oh! Yeah, uhhh, what do you want me to do?” She asked. She set her notebook and small recorder on the ground and looked at him.
“Just grab hold somewhere and pull.” Al said.
Crys reached up and grabbed an arm of the big suit. Al backed away, and Crys backed the other way. Soon he was free, and then he was on his butt. She was also on her butt, and the armor banged to the floor, causing everyone in the entire place to go completely silent and stare at the two teens sitting on the floor. Al watched her go a shade of pink he was sure matched his own, and he quickly got to his feet, and walked to her, helping her up. He grabbed the metal jacket and told her to follow him. She grabbed her things and followed him into the break room. He lay the top half of the suit next to the bottom half and sat down on one of the chairs.
“Sorry about that.” He said, scratching his head and blushing madly.
“Oh, it wasn’t your fault.” She replied, seeing for the first time that he was pretty cute. Then she remembered she was there for a reason and she returned to reporter mode.
“My name is Crystal Tresor, and I am the feature editor for the Uzumaki High School Spiral Press. I came here to ask you about the Dali exhibit.
“Well, my name is Alphonse Elric, but everyone calls me Al. I am just a volunteer here doing tours after school, so I really don’t know that much about it.”
At that moment, the curator herself walked into the break room and informed Al that there was still a lot to do.
“I’m sorry Crystal, could this wait?” Al asked, looking sincerely sorry.
“Well, when do you leave here?”
“Around five.”
“Ok, I will meet you then and we can go have some coffee or something.” Crys said.
“Oh, umm, ok then. “ Al returned, blushes rising to his face again.
She extended her hand, which he took and shook in his slightly sweaty hand, and then she was gone, and he ran out to find the curator and find out what his next job would be.

Ren sat at home on her bed, her laptop in front of her. She was working on her report on Charles Dickens for World Lit. class. She was also talking on her messenger, listening to music and searching lyrics to a song she was listening to. She got onto her search engine and typed in ‘Dickens’ wanting to get a list of his works. She waited and waited. She watched the cursor go from arrow to hourglass to arrow to hourglass, and she found herself becoming impatient. She began to hate the hourglass and she tucked some stray red locks behind her ear while she contemplated ways to destroy the hourglass and scatter it’s contents to the high winds. She glanced at her clock and saw that she had been sitting there for a good two minutes waiting for the damn thing to load. She stood up and began to pace around the bed, getting ready to turn the thing off. She sat back down and clicked on her different applications, trying to shut them down. It was lagging so much by then, they wouldn’t even close. She picked up the laptop, walked over to the window, opened it, and tossed the computer out. It fell into the hedge two stories below with a whoosh sound. She slammed the window shut and threw herself down on the bed and shut her eyes. A few seconds later, her eyes flew open.
“Oh shit!” She said loudly and ran downstairs and outside to retrieve her fallen baby. She picked it up, and ran to her car. She put the computer in the seat next to her and rushed off to the computer store.
When she got there she rushed in and right up to the Geek Squad desk, where a short guy with blonde hair and pretty gold eyes was sitting, looking bored. She walked up, took a second to gain her composure, while he looked at her questioningly. She pulled the laptop up and dropped it on the counter. He arched an eyebrow at the branches and leaves sticking out from it at odd angles. He looked back up at her and she smiled sweetly and said, “I think I broke it.”
“Well, I would say so.” Ed said with an amazed expression on his face. “What the hell happened here?”
“Well, umm, “ she began, “I was doing research on a paper, and it didn’t load up quick enough, so... I tossed it out my second story bedroom window.” She finished quickly, blushing a little.
Ed just looked at her for a few minutes, not sure what to say, she was pretty funny, he had to admit.
“Well, to make it run faster, all you need is more memory.” He explained, trying to stifle the laugh that was threatening to come out. Suddenly she began to giggle. It was just a little bit at first, and then it turned into a laugh. Ed laughed too, they looked at the wrecked laptop in front of them and just laughed for a good five minutes. When they had finally stopped laughing enough to talk, she looked at him with a straight face and asked, “So, can you fix it?” That started them laughing all over again.
“Yeah, I can fix anything, give me an hour or so.” Ed told her, wiping tears from his eyes.
“Really? That is great. Thanks sweety.” She said, and she was off to browse the music section. Ed looked after her with a smile still on his face. She was really strange, but he liked that about her. It was interesting. To think she had thrown her computer out of her window, well...that was something he himself would do in a fit of anger. He decided that when she came back to get the computer he would ask her out. He set to work clearing out the leaves.
Ren looked at the music but all she could really see were the golden eyes. He was really short, but really cute. Apparently he was really smart too. She walked around the store, trying to kill as much time as possible but still ended up going back to the counter ten minutes early. He was sitting at his desk, putting some screws back into the bottom of the laptop.
“Are you done?” She asked.
“Just about.” He told her, beaming.
He finished, set the screwdriver down, and brought the laptop back to the counter. He looked up at her with a cocky grin on his lips.
“My name is Edward, well Ed. Ed Elric.” He said. “Wanna get something to eat when I get out of here?”
“Sure Ed, and I am Lauren Tresor. Call me Ren.”
“Alright Ren. Well, here is your laptop, in perfect condition. Here is your bill, please take it to the front, and I get out of here at five, so please meet me here.”
“Sure thing, Ed,” she said, grabbing the computer and walking toward the counter. He smirked and chuckled to himself, congratulating himself on a job well done. Before he could be too happy with himself, an old man walked up to the counter.
“Excuse me son, could you get your daddy out here?”
Edward Elric went off.

Nic had walked into the store and went straight to the desk. “How much for the Kirara plushie?”
“That is not for sale.” The guy had told her, “There were ten of them made, and only five in the U.S.. The only way to get one is to kill somebody that has one.” He finished with a laugh.
Nic walked away, mumbling something about how easy that would be. She walked back to the animal and petted it. She looked back to the clerk. Then to the door. Then to the clerk. Then to the plushie. Then to the door. She slowly grabbed the cat, and began to move it toward the door. Then she grabbed it’s tails and pulled it as fast as she could. She pushed open the door and pulled it. At the same time she heard the clerk yelling something in his idiot voice. All of a sudden there were hands on her arms pulling her outside. She broke herself away and whipped around.
“YOU!” She yelled.
“Yes, me.” Roy said to her calmly, a smile on his lips. “Stealing a stuffed animal were we?”
“It’s not a stuffed animal! It’s Kirara!” She said indignantly. “What do you care anyways?”
“Well, I am going to be the officer that arrests you.” Roy said trying not to laugh now at the irony.
Nic’s eyes got wide as she looked at the badge he pulled from his pocket. “Okay okay, you can have the monitor.” She said with a nervous giggle.
“Ohh, I will get the lizard too.” He said. “But for now, I am going to be escorting a shoplifter to the station.”
“Hey, I didn’t actually lift it, so I am not really a shop lifter, right? Besides I never made it out of the store!”
“Well, pressing charges is up to the manager of the store, so I guess you are at his mercy. And mine.” He said grinning again.
She looked at him, a little worried now, “But I can’t go to jail! My sister has dinner on the table, waiting for me.”
“Dinner? It is like, three in the afternoon. What are you, 70?” Roy asked her.
“Actually, I am 25.” She said offhandedly. She was really getting annoyed with his cocky attitude. If he wasn’t so cute, she probably would have run off already.
“Well then you are old enough to know that stealing is a crime.”
“It’s better than murder.” She said under her breath.
“What?”
“Nothing.”
He escorted her back inside the building where he took statements from the clerk and the witness. He looked at the blonde, who was eyeing the stuffed cat in a way that told him he needed to be carrying it around with him. Maybe he should just fling her over his shoulder to keep the cat safe.
“Officer?” She said impatiently. “It’s time for me to open the store back up, can we finish this up now?”
He walked back to her and brought his pen and paper back up. “I need to get your name and phone number for follow up. The manager isn’t going to press charges, but you aren’t allowed to come back in here.”
“My name is Nicole Tresor, and my number is 191-5432.”
“Do you want me to escort you back to your store?” He asked.
“Are you afraid someone will commit a hate crime on me for trying to steal a plushie?”
He just looked at her. “I want my monitor.”
She sighed and her shoulders hunched. “I guess.”
They walked back to Houseki’s Treasure and she let them in. She grabbed the Savannah Monitor’s cage and brought it up to the counter where she grudgingly pushed the buttons on the register and totaled him out while pouting and staring at the lizard longingly.
“You’re total is $237.43," she said.
“You know, Nicole, you can still see this lizard when you come to my house.”
Nic cocked an eyebrow and looked at the man like he was nuts. First he arrests her, then he takes her baby away. Indeed he was insane. Cute, but insane. However, he was taking the monitor, and it may be in the reptile’s best interest if she made house calls every so often.
“That’s true officer, I never thought of it that way.” She said. “Do you think I could get your name, so that when I come to your house, I don’t have to call you officer?”
“Roy Mustang.” He said smiling, and patting himself on the back. Smooth talker Roy Mustang strikes again.
“Ok then, Roy, call me sometime.”
“I will.”
“Until then, take care of the monitor.”
By that time, he was at the door. He raised one hand in acknowledgement and walked out the door. As she watched him go, she felt the eyebrow raise again, cause she had no idea what she had just gotten herself into.
