Flame and Fullmetal 300 km/h

A/N: I am rewriting a story I wrote long ago, so I would appreciate reviews. Enjoy!

Chapter 1; Flame and Fullmetal 300 km/h

Ed pulled over by a gas station and stepped out of his sleek black and blue race car. ’It’s so damn hot,’ he thought, whipping his brow as he filled the tank. He had been lucky that there was such a place on the outskirts of Central, doubting he would have made it into town. Walking inside the station he noticed a sign with the word ’restaurant’. Stepping through the door he was happy there wasn’t a lame doorbell and sighed when a brief, cold breeze from the air-conditioning hit his face.

He grabbed a stool at the bar and took a seat, moving his sunglasses on top of his head and checked the menu. Having found something to his liking he looked over his shoulder and spotted a woman with her hair tied up and waved her over.

”What will it be for you sir? The special today is the tuna salad.”

”No thanks, I’ll just have the cheeseburger with everything on it and a glass of water.”

”Very well. Breda!” she yelled, walking to the back of the bar where only employees go and filled a high glass with ice. ”A tuna salad, an onion soup and then a cheeseburger with onions and the BBQ sauce!”
She turned back to Ed and handed him his glass of water. He could read from her nametag that the woman’s name was Riza. She noticed and guessed a small kid like him couldn’t possibly be checking her cleavage. She held out her hand. ”Riza Hawkeye. My friends call me Hawk. You must be new in town. I would definitely know if someone from around here had such a nice ride like you do.”
Ed shook her hand replying:”Edward Elric, they call me Ed even though I’m not much of a ’friend’ kind of person.”

”That’s not so uncommon around here. You see that guy right there?” Riza pointed to a man sitting by himself in the desolate part of the restaurant wearing a white shirt with the sleeves cut off, reading a magazine. Ed instantly recognized him as Roy Mustang, a professional street racer by the nickname Flame. ”He’s not so friendly either.”

”Here’s your cheeseburger,” said one of the workers swooping in with Ed’s meal. He was a short and rather sturdy guy wearing an apron smeared with different sauces.
”Ed, this is Breda. He is the chef here.”
The red head offered his hand and Ed hesitantly shook it.

”So what has brought you to Central?” Riza asked as Ed dug into the burger.

”We are going to be staying here for a while, with the weather so good here and everything…” Ed said and took another bite. The chef may not have looked his best but the food was great!

”We?”

”I and my younger brother but he is joining me later.” Ed said curtly. He didn’t like people asking too many questions about him or why he was in Central.

”the car outside is your’s?” Breda asked and Ed nodded. ”That is one fine lady. I bet she could stand up to Roy’s new Caldina in a beauty contest any day!”

”You better not say that to the Colonel.” Ed frowned at the weird name Riza had called Roy Mustang.

”That guy has got a stick so far up his ass you would need a surgeon to remove it.” Breda murmured and Ed had to hold back a laugh.

”You guy’s want to do your fucking job for once in your pathetic lives?”
Ed turned to see the man named Roy Mustang with a frown on his face and his arms crossed. ”I’m not paying you for socializing so start closing up here for today. Breda, I want you to go and get me two more containers of Nitrous Oxide. And you Hawk, go tell Winry and Hughes to fix up my ride. It’s Thursday, you know how it works tomorrow.”

”Maybe if you asked a little nicer things would go smoother for you,” Ed cut in, not liking the way the man was bossing around his employees.

Roy looked down at him as if he just noticed Ed. ”Who the hell are you?”

”Trust me; you don’t even want to know me.”

”Obviously I don’t hang around with kids and I don’t want under-aged drivers at this station.”

”Who are you calling so short he can’t even reach down to hit the gas?!”

”He just moved into town,” Riza explained, breaking the men up. ”And I assume you don’t have a job?”

”I didn’t spend twelve hours on the road to go to get to work,” Ed growled, never the one to like it when other people talked for him.

”Well, maybe you could work here,” Riza said and looked hopefully at Roy. Ed gave her a questioning look. ”Of course I didn’t mean here in the restaurant. There’s a work-shop in the back. With a car like that I guessed you would have some experience with mechanics.”

”Now wait a bloody minute!” Roy broke in. ”Who the hell says he can work here? And just because the kid owns a car doesn’t mean it's any more to him than a toy he can have someone else fix with his daddy’s money that bought him the car in the first place!”

”First of all Colonel-bastard,” Ed said mocking him, holding back his rage when thinking about his father. ”Who the hell says I even want to work here? And I bet I can work cars better than you could do in your wildest dreams! I’m a mechanic after all.”

Roy glared down at the blond who glared right back. Suddenly Roy smirked. ”Then maybe I can put you to good use. You start tomorrow,” he said, turned away and left Ed stunned.

”What makes you think I don’t have something better to do than be here?!”

”Do you?” Riza asked, leaning on the bar table with an amused expression on her face.

”No, but that is not the point!” Ed said putting the money on the table and angrily walked back out to his car.

Riza knew Ed would be back tomorrow.
