Golden eyes gazed out upon a cloudy night sky. It had not begun to snow yet but he was positive that it would begin shortly. And still…eyes roamed over the empty bed of his teammate and captain. He sighed heavily. Kai, the ever silent member of the group, the bluenette had often disappeared in the middle of the nights, though it had happened a lot more recently.
Rei had often stayed up and waited for him to return, before posing as being asleep, hoping that these weren’t the first signs of a repeat of what had happened a couple of months ago, when Kai had deserted his team for a greater power. Yes, they had gotten him back and defeated Biovolt, but he couldn’t help but think that there was still a danger to them here in the cold recesses of Russia.
But still he wanted to trust Kai, the boy had just begun to come out of his shell and Rei had found himself noticing the Russia more and more. He noticed how he would smile more though it disappeared too shortly, he noticed the subtle, yet funny remarks Kai came out with, and he noticed that he had become highly attracted to him. And to Rei’s delight, he was the person that Kai sought the most company with. Kai had sometimes let Rei in on what The Abbey was like, and though the stories told were quite horrific Rei felt certain that he didn’t have the whole story. Especially since Kai didn’t really mention himself or the Demoltion Boys in any of them.
Rei lightly placed a hand over his ribs; several of which had been broken during his vicious battle with one of the Demolition Boys, Brian. He still had nightmares over those lilac eyes, lit with glee at his suffering. Vivid memories of blood, tears, and pain, constantly hovered at the back of his mind waiting to be able to come to the forefront.
White snow began to fall and with it came a familiar figure walking towards the hotel. Rei sighed with relief and hurriedly moved to his bed, pulling the covers over himself, hissing slightly at the blast of pain as he lifted his arms. He waited ten minutes, golden eyes glowing in the dark, before there was a small rattle of keys and the door opened. His captain walked in and his eyes instantly fell on Rei’s form, eyes now shut.
Kai closed the door none to silently and moved to his chest of drawers. “Why bother Rei? I can tell you’re awake.”
Rei’s eyes opened wide and he gingerly pushed himself up with his arm. “How long have you known?”
Kai pulled out a red T-shirt and pair of black boxers. He threw them over his shoulder. “Ever since last week, that’s when you started isn’t it.” He strode over to the ajoining bathroom closing the door.
Rei listened as the familiar click of the lock was turned. So Kai had known all along, he should have known really, Kai wasn’t stupid and he was trained to know these things. Rei ran a hand through his ebony hair, only to curse as it got stuck in knots. He pulled it out as Kai exited the bathroom now clad in only T-shirt and boxers. Rei let his eyes swiftly rove over the toned legs and arms before forcing them away.
He kept his eyes downcast until his bed shifted with a new weight. Before he could do a thing his arms were above his head and Kai sat on his stomach. Red eyes boring into him. At any other time he would have found this erotic, his man of fantasy atop of him, however, those red eyes were highly disturbing as they looked as cold as those that belonged to Brian. Rei squirmed and bit his lip to keep the groan of pain at bay. Kai leaned closer to him.
“Why bother Rei?” Repeating the question of earlier. “Why wait for me? Do you think that one night I won’t come back?” He squeezed the wrists in his hands and earned a cry. “Do you not trust me?”
Rei turned away from those piercing eyes unable to answer truthfully. That was the jist of it wasn’t it, he just didn’t trust him to not leave them again. He glanced back at Kai’s face to see it as stoic as ever, though there was something else in his eyes. Hurt?
Kai let go of Rei’s wrists but still sat on top of him. His hands moved to Rei’s chest and rested there. Rei’s breath caught, his hands still in the position Kai left them. He looked up at the slate-haired blader atop of him eyes wide.
Kai did not look up to meet Rei’s eyes instead he kept them solely focused on the chest beneath his hands. He could see the beginnings of a toned body at the neck of a shirt all too big for Rei’s lithe form. He found himself wanting more, to see his hands move over the abs, to feel the body beneath squirm and writh, to hear moans and gasps from pink lips, to finally touch the most intimate place on the others form.
Hands clenched suddenly and he threw himself from Rei and jumped into his own bed. He pulled the covers over himself violently not quite believing he had lost self-control over himself. The bulge being the solid evidence of that.
“If you’re really that interested Rei, you can come with me tomorrow. Then maybe you’ll understand everything.”
Rei still lay flat on his back, registering what Kai had said, but not really listening intently. His mind was still on Kai’s hands resting over him, resting on him. He had desperately wanted Kai to move his hands over his body and was disappointed when Kai suddenly removed himself from his person. Rei moved his hands down to his sides ignoring the semi-erection sure it would just go away and turned to face the bluenette’s back.
“Sure Kai, I’ll do just that.”
Tyson gorged himself once again at the breakfast buffet. Skipping quite merrily between tables as he grabbed bits of everything and stuffed it onto his already heaving plate. Max sat quite contently with a bowl of cereal in front of him, watching his friend once again make a pig out of himself. Rei sat opposite intent on not losing his appetite by not looking at the living bottomless pit.
Kai sat besides Rei with a single cup of coffee in hand. Every now and then he would look at the rest of the team as to make sure that first of all Tyson wasn’t going to get into trouble with the hotel staff again, to make sure Max wasn’t trying to slip sugar in with his cereal and Rei to…to just look at him. Kai began to wonder why he had ever invited Rei to come along with him to see his…problem.
Kai felt a presence lingering in his mind and he shut his eyes, entering a realm within himself. It didn’t take long to spot the phoenix he shared a connection with. Dranzer was perched not too far from himself, black eyes intent on Kai.
: He may be able to help Kai. :
Kai smirked and folded his arms. < You’ve been peeking into my thoughts again. >
The firey bird rustled her wings. : I tried to not peek into your private thoughts. : Kai blushed furiously and arms fell down to his sides fists clenched. He glared at the bird, his bit-beast. : Though I knew long before you did you cared for the boy in a much different way to the others. Anyway do you not trust Rei. :
Kai turned away. < It’s not a matter if I trust him. It’s the other way around, besides… > Kai once again faced the phoenix. < …he may make things worse. Unintentionally, but worse nonetheless. >
Dranzer seemed to bow her red head. : It’s your choice anyway Kai, but I believe you already agree with me. :
Before Kai could reply both the bit-beast and shared realm melted away. He opened his eyes on the coffee cup in which the black liquid swirled. He cursed inwardly thinking that he would have to start putting a mental block on the phoenix if she could read so many of his thoughts. Then again Dranzer was surprisingly resourceful when she wished to be.
“Hey, Kai?”
Kai looked over at the ebony haired blader. Golden eyes brimming with concern.
“I’m fine.” Answering the unasked question and pushing himself from the table. He stood as Tyson brought back his mountain of food. Max looked on gobsmacked whilst Rei paled as Tyson began to devour the food. Kai grimaced, turning away from the sight as he headed to the elevators.
He pressed the button, and looked up at the floor number each elevator was on. A second person came to stand beside him and he glanced sideways at Rei.
“I lost my appetite.” He said plainly holding his stomach.
Kai smirked at him and stepped into the opening elevator, Rei a step behind him. The doors closed as Rei pressed for the 14th floor. The chrome elevator jerked as it began its ascent. Rei leaned his back against the wall closing his eyes with a sigh. Tyson could spoil anyone’s view on food. He sensed Kai shift at his side and opened his gold orbs to look into crimson ones.
“Can you trust me Rei?”
Rei frowned. “I want to.”
Kai in turn mirrored Rei’s frown. “That isn’t the answer to my question.”
Rei wanted to turn from that gaze but the eyes held him. He suddenly had a flash from the night before where Kai had straddled him, but he saw it going much further than it had. He saw Kai lean forward, felt Kai’s hands touch his skin as the shirt was removed, and felt Kai’s lips touch his own.
Rei’s mind snapped back to reality. Kai still awaiting an appropriate answer. “Yes. Yes, I can trust you.”
Kai nodded, turning his back on Rei. “Good because I trust you and I’ll need you to trust me later. We leave at 7.” Kai strode out of the elevator as the doors opened, Rei holding back before following him.
His eyes gazed down to Kai’s arse, scarf constricting his view every now and then. Oh how desperately he wanted to remove that scarf, along with other clothing. He shook his head. Kai hadn’t really shown interest in Rei other than that of a good friend, though last night had been the first sign of a deeper interest. Rei prayed to the gods that Kai either returned his feelings, or never found out his own, he couldn’t risk the growing friendship they shared.
And besides, there was no proof Kai was gay.
