Disclaimer: Unfortunately… don’t own,
never will. I use for others and my sick pleasure—only borrowing. But there
will possibly be a later character that will be my own creation, so, ‘nuff said.
Thanks: Arigato! So very much for Seifer’s and Little Quatre’s
help with this—Oh yeah and a certain Sweetie Peaty who only Little Quatre and I
would know by that name. Without your help I don’t think I even would
have gotten past the fifth page!

~Phase 1:
Dreams Are Too Real~
The
battlefield was bloody as hell and the only sounds that could be heard across
the field of death were screams of the dying and doomed. There were no cheery
songs from the sparrows who long since had moved from the ashes and smoke; no
clean water to quench the weary soldiers’ thirst; no salvation from the
unstoppable force of the Deathbringer’s army.
Men were left for the dead everywhere, even if they were
still alive—nobody could afford to lose anymore than they already had because
of a wounded and lagging soldier. Troops trudged through the battlefield as
quickly as they could, giving sympathetic glances to the man with out legs or
another with no stomach but was still alive, others just completely ignored the
pleas for help—better to just block it all out, it will be that much easier
when one closer to them is lost.
There were no words exchanged between the men on the
field—comrade or enemy alike; not even a simple gesture could be seen being
tossed from one to another, they were just walking zombies, dragging their
lifeless bodies through the blood and bones and lost limbs. Only the thought
that they still might have salvation waiting for them just over the next ridge
kept them going. The enemy was closing in on them but they didn’t care
anymore—especially if their general of all people, who had fearlessly taken up
position to fight on the field right smack in the middle of it all, was
dragging his legs and actually showing the weariness in his usually emotionless
eyes now.
It had been a shock to everyone, especially to the Deathbringer, army general, and soul bringer of this bloody
and endless war. Everyone knew of this soldier’s—no, Perfect Soldier’s skill and, even beauty. He was grace and steel in its
truest form. The strongest steel surely flowed through his very core, fusing
the awesome muscles that rippled under his taut and golden skin. The
crystalline ice that fired his soul was only revealed through the two prussian blue orbs, set upon
beautifully chiseled high cheekbones, which blazed with such raw emotion that
it sent even the bravest and strongest soldier crying for his mother. An unruly
mop of almost, but-not-quite, short black hair accented those features
perfectly as well, topping him off wonderfully.
Many soldiers
had, on numerous accounts, found themselves gawking—practically drooling over
the god-like general because of this beauty, which seemed to be displayed
without his true knowledge of how he really looked to others, and usually
resulted in one form of punishment or another; the general didn’t like being
stared at—especially by his inferiors, or superiors alike. He wasn’t vain and
never thought of anything other than his duty and need to fulfill it. That in
turn gave him the well-known reputation of being the ‘Perfect Soldier’. And
with good reason too; not only was he perfect in just the sight of him but he
was absolutely flawless in battle—his natural environment; his men had seen, on
many accounts, the enemy at the not-so-merciful hands of their general and it
was not a pretty sight.
They
would cringe at the thought of being the helpless victim in the hands of their
general. Not once—ever had they seen even one sliver of emotion in those
glacial eyes. Perfect. He was a good man
though—trustworthy and could be counted on to ‘get the job done’ with precision
and in short time; leaving the mission with everything he started with,
including the men that were sent with him if there were any to begin with. That
was another thing he didn’t like, having to work with others.
It
irritated him to no end that he often had to work in the confines of others who
were less than formidable partners for him and would only get in the way.
Usually he chose who and what the ‘mission’ as he called it would be,
occasionally joining in to complete it when it piqued his curiosity. But still,
having to be around other human life forms was very tiring and
annoying—especially now, with half his men lost or dead and the rest lagging
behind, too slow for comfort. All he wanted was to make it to the border
joining, now Deathbringer’s kingdom and the not much
longer, peaceful, Winner kingdom. He was tired sore and hurt like hell, though
he would never admit to being in pain, he just wanted to get off his travel
ragged feet, out of the dirt covered, blood smeared clothing and armor and into
a bed, and he knew his men wanted and needed the same things as well—or what
was left of them.
The
gods were not with him this time though—whatever gods those might be…. As they
hit the top of the ridge the enemy was spread out across the road that would
have lead the unsuspecting soldiers to their salvation, but a fight was
inevitable. The stoic general froze, unmoving from his tracks as the rest of
his men dragged themselves up to the top of the hill
and almost ran right into him.
“Wha-! General!?” A soldier with an
exceptionally long braid shouted out at the general as he was about to run
right into him, but the braided soldier stopped right in his tracks and his
mouth fell.
“Ohhhhh…. Shit.” The braided soldier fell with a plop to the
ground, despair the only emotion visible in his large cobalt eyes. Two other
soldiers came trudging up the hill, questioning looks thrown at the two
soldiers all ready standing on the hill.
“Maxwell…
what is the matter, what are you overreacting to now?” The young soldier with jet-black
hair questioned. Before he could ask anymore though, he was silenced by the
unexpected dry mouth that hit him at the sight of Deathbringer’s
entire forces lined out like a deck of cards played out for the opponent. And,
the most shocking piece to the picture was Deathbringer
himself, mounted atop his black steed at the head of them all, with a knowing
smirk on his lips and an evil glint in his eye. We are not going to make it through this… The usually confident general
thought to himself.
He
looked to the right of him and saw his three most powerful and precious
soldiers; First, Duo Maxwell who had rightfully and proudly earned the name Shinigami as a once professional
assassin and thief who did his job quite well also—actually, perfectly until
someone who had once seen him before recognized him and he was captured. The general
that stood next to him now though, actually took pity on the illustrious thief
and requested for Shinigami to live, but as second in command of his, now, general’s
armies. Whether it was actual pity or just that the general really saw the
skill in him, Duo would never know, all he cared about
was that he was still alive. Second, the illusive and reserved Trowa Barton who
had come to be known as The Silencer, earning that name because of
his soundless and deathly calm way of executing his enemies—they never knew he
was even there, even when it was too late. He was the closest to their general
and was considered his best friend since they were practically joined at the
hip. So, he was perfect when it came to the covert missions his general always
went on—they could always use someone who knew how to disappear.
Last,
but definitely not least was Chang Wufei or The
Solitary Dragon, as he liked to be called. Which was a
perfect name, as his Chinese origin and family background of being a scholar
family proved to be enough to earn what was to be considered an honorary name
to his clan. He was dark and most thought, stuck on himself, and his
damned ‘justice’ that he always ranted on about but that was far from the
truth. He did tend to be cold and arrogant towards the other soldiers (mainly
the weaker ones), but he did care a great deal for his closer
comrades—especially the loudmouthed braided boy, Duo, and his general. Many
soldiers tried to take advantage of him because he was once a highly esteemed
scholar, but a scholar none-the-less and many men would think him weak… not
even close to the truth, which those soldiers found out soon after; being as
highly trained as he was in the deadliest martial arts came in handy at times,
especially when there was an impudent soldier to be taught a lesson.
Their
general sighed with all the exhaustion he felt and he turned his head back to
the rest of his men; road and war-ragged, exhausted beyond comprehension and
almost falling over from the pain and loss they felt. These men can’t fight any more. They are almost dead as it is…I-I can’t
send them to their deaths now, when
we’re so close! Damn! What am I supposed to do? I can barely stand, much less fight, what are the others going to
do!? Rare and almost never seen emotions warred across the great general’s
face as he stood before the enemy with not even the slightest chance of hope to
live through the coming fight.
Duo,
Trowa and Wufei watched their general war with himself over what to do, and
they were soon feeling the fear and confusion that he was feeling—new emotions
to them all. Then, as if to ease their general’s pain and communicate mutual
feelings, Duo put a scraped up hand on his general’s shoulder and smiled the
same manic smile he almost always had plastered on his face. He turned, with
actual shock in his eyes, towards his second in command and his other two
captains and, understanding what was silently being communicated, he nodded and
turned the most heated glare he had ever held before towards Deathbringer and hollered,
“CHARGE!!”
His men whooped and hollered with all they had, Duo’s grin broke to flash his
surprisingly white teeth and he turned to Wufei in one full motion and kissed
the Chinese man on the lips passionately before he took off running by their general’s
side and yelling,
“I
love you Chang! And don’t you forget that!! WOOOOO!!!!”
Wufei grinned and took off after them with Trowa following close by his side.
The battle was inevitable, and it was a no-win situation, they knew that but
they still fought. They fought with everything they had left in them. All the
anger and all the loss they had experienced welled up with an astonishing force
that left the enemies forces shocked at the determination of the dwindling army
before them. Deathbringer himself wasn’t as surprised
though, he knew of the great general’s army that was facing him now, and he
knew of the great general himself—his power, his grace, his determination… and,
his beauty.
Beauty, yes, beauty beyond imagination. Beauty that surpassed any other’s and yet, knew
nothing of vanity—marvelous. That is what had brought Deathbringer
into this war, what started it; the obsession, the absolute lust that watching
this gorgeous god produced and it drove Deathbringer
to near insanity. If you wanted some reason to why this whole war was started,
there was the truth. Deathbringer had been watching
the beautiful general before him for a very long time and he had fallen in love,
if you could call it that—starting a war over one man’s beauty wasn’t really a
good excuse but it was the truth, yet nobody knew that except Deathbringer himself. Everyone who had been unfortunate
enough to have gotten caught up in the war and even those who didn’t, thought
it was another fight over land or a family quarrel, not some pathetic love over
an absolute angel that fought in the bloody battle now.
Not
even the said object of obsession knew what this whole pointless war was about.
He just fought, and hoped that one day it would all be over with so that he
could go back to his lonely, but peaceful life, if that would even be possible
now, after all of the damage that had been done. Deathbringer’s
smile widened as a path was cleared between him and his precious general; the
beautiful man’s exposed chest and face glistening with sweat and every labored
breath he took, he looked even more beautiful than before. A stray lock of that
dark brown hair falling into his icy prussian blue
eyes, the anger reaching even higher now that he could see the smirk on Deathbringer’s lips. The stoic general took a step forward
and swiped away the blood that started to trickle down his face from the new
wound by his eye, angrily as he watched the bastard before him fill with
enjoyment of watching this show of weakness and triumph of power over the
defeated general’s army.
Deathbringer’s stallion fussed about, causing the black creature atop it to sway
slightly from the lack of balance. The poor general frowned more and pulled
back his sword, ready to attack. Deathbringer merely
watched with an amused smile as his soon-to-be slave readied for a pathetic
attempt to attack. Nobody could harm Deathbringer,
not even his precious general.
Attack…
I’ll die trying… All thoughts fled from the proud general’s mind as he broke into a
dead run, right for Deathbringer. He knew he couldn’t
beat the almost invincible warlord but he would sure as hell try or die. All he
knew was to fight and keep fighting until he could fight no more.
Their
swords met, the connection so violent it reverberated
throughout all who were near the two experienced fighters, so immense it
actually began to draw an audience; all the soldiers on the field were so
distracted they began to drop their swords and just stare at the amazing fight
before them.
Even though one was at a higher advantage the one
below continued to fight as if they were both on their feet. Deathbringer found himself
dodging more than enough thrusts and swings towards him than he cared for. He
shouldn’t have been as strong as he was, but the amazing man below him was ‘The
Perfect Soldier’ after all, and Deathbringer
shouldn’t have been so shocked, it’s just that the swings were almost too
accurate. Lost in his thoughts as he was, Deathbringer
didn’t notice when the general’s sword came flying right at his exposed chest,
and he went flying off his enormous black stallion and fell to the
blood-stained ground with a loud clanging thud. The general didn’t wait for the
bastard to get up and he charged for him, sword raised and ready to kill.
The
blow never came though, only more shrill sounds of enemies’ swords connecting.
The general’s eyes widened with shock as his attack was stopped by Deathbringer; even in the position he was in, he still
managed to block the general’s attack. No…
Deathbringer couldn’t have been happier at the
display he saw before him: his perfect general standing before him with the
strongest sense of fear splayed across his beautiful face and utter hopelessness
completely taking over his muscular form.
Defeat…
The
next scene that was played out before the soldiers’ wide eyes was too
astonishing to even comprehend. Blood. Everywhere, blood. Crimson, flowing, life’s force everywhere
and coming from the precious general everyone seemed to be so attracted to.
The
three captains of the great general’s army stood frozen with fear and shock as
they watched their beloved general fall back to the red-painted ground with a
loud thud. Duo fell to his knees, Wufei just blinked with shock and Trowa’s
tall frame shook when their strong general fell to the ground.
“We’ve
lost…” Wufei barely croaked, above a whisper, more of a thought that happened
to escape. He felt a sudden and unfamiliar stab of pain and fear pull at his
heart, No… Wufei fell down beside
Duo, his long-time lover and pulled the braided beauty into his arms. All Duo
could do was allow himself to be pulled into the welcomed embrace and stare. He’s dead……? A single tear rolled down
Duo’s heart shaped face and was lost in the dry blood-red dirt.
Trowa,
the general’s closest and most treasured friend, if that’s what you could have
called him, merely stood there, staring. He didn’t blink, nor did he breathe, he just… stood. He had never felt the emotions he was
feeling right at that moment and he didn’t know how to stop them. He’s…dead? NO! No, he’s not dead……not…dead.
The control Trowa had so desperately been fighting for finally broke and he
found himself running at the son of a bitch who just murdered his general—his
friend.
Life…
A
sudden flash of blinding light surrounded all who were on the battle field and
left Trowa and the others staggering for some sort of control and understanding
to these new events playing out before them. The light became so intense that
it was even too much when the men’s eyes were closed; they started screaming in
pain and throwing themselves to the ground in hopes to somehow get away from
that horrible light. Trowa staggered forward, in hopes to possibly see what was
happening to his general, but all he got was more light
in his eyes. Then it was dark…
