To Quatre’s surprise, I stopped off at a convenience store and bought some chicken noodle soup, Nyquil, a big bottle of juice (with 100% Vitamin A & C), and an ice pack. I had just enough left over to put some gas in my tank, and then we were on our way home.

“Duo, you didn’t have to use your own money to get all this stuff. I’m sure that my mom would have gladly given you the money so you didn’t have to use your own.”

“You worry too much, Quat.” I smile, “You’re gonna give yourself an ulcer one of these days…”

“But… but Duo!”

I wave a finger at him, “Tut, tut…” I continue to grin. “You just leave everything to your dearest boyfriend!” I thought I’d never see the day that I’d be saying this to another boy. Quatre smiled at me, but he still looked concerned.

“You’re too nice, Duo. You’re gonna spoil the snot out of me!”

“And I’ll love every minute of it.” He grinned at me, and then started to cough. It sounded pretty bad. “Quat?” I asked with alarm in my tone.

“I’m fine.” He said once he finished hacking out a lung.

“I’ll be the one to decide that.” I told him.

We finally pulled up into the driveway.

“Oh my poor baby!” Mrs. Winner gasped. She placed a hand on his forehead just like I’ve done. “You are staying home tomorrow! You should get under the covers and rest!”

“Ah, mom. Don’t fret over me so much.” Quatre blushed, in embarrassment I would assume.

“I am and I will! Now march your little tushie up to your room!”

“Don’t worry, mum.” I smile at her. “I’ll be taking care of him.” I lifted the plastic bag to show her that I meant business. She sighed at the name I picked to call her and then was at awe with the fact that I bought some stuff for him with my own cash.

“Oh, Duo, you didn’t have to do this.” She hugs me. “You’re too nice to my son.”

I heard Mr. Winner huff in response to that. He was at the kitchen table reading the evening paper.

“Of course I’m nice to him!” I wrap an arm around Quatre’s shoulders, “I am in love with him, remember?” I give them both a cheeky grin and wiggle my eyebrows. I think Quatre was blushing at that.

Mr. Winner furrowed his brow, “Duo… what have I told you?”

I removed my arm from around my sweetheart, “Oh yeah. Sorry.” I scowl secretly.

“So then,” Mrs. Winner said, I’m guessing she’s trying to lighten the mood, “how was school?”

“It wasn’t too bad.” I answered her. I put a steady hand on Quatre’s shoulder and began to usher him up to his room, “No one really bothered us this time.”

“That’s good.” She smiled. “Isn’t that good, dear?” she asked her husband.

“Yeah, good.” Mr. Winner grumbled. He folded his paper. “If you’ll excuse me, I think I’ll retire early. Good night, Quatre. Take it easy and rest tomorrow.” He ruffled his son’s hair. He walked by mum and kissed her cheek, “Good night, honey. See you in the bedroom later.” He slowly turned to me. I gave him a weak smile. “Night, Duo.” And then he disappeared into his bedroom.

“Huh! Good to see that he didn’t forget me.” I huff.

“You’ll have to excuse him, Duo dear. He’s had a rough day at the office.”

“Well, he shouldn’t be taking it out on me!” I folded my arms across my chest in protest. Mrs. Winner sighed.

“Sorry about that, Duo. Anyway, could you take care of Quatre for me tonight? I’ve got a splitting headache.” She rubbed one of her temples.

“Sure thing.” I said.

~~**~~

“No!” Quatre sneered. “I told you I don’t want to!”

I chased him to the other side of his room, “Don’t make me restrain you, blondie!” I smirk.

“I told you, I'll be fine! I just need rest.”

“I must make sure that you stay fine. Now take your medicine!”

“No!”

I lunged for him, but he was too nimble and dived out of the way to the other side of the room. “Come on, Quat! This is the good kind! It’s cherry flavored Nyquil! Shit, I gulp this stuff down when I’m sick!”

“But it’ll make me drowsy! I don’t want to be drowsy right now! It’s too early!”

My eyes scanned the digital alarm clock that read 9:46 PM. “You need to take this so you can get better faster. You won’t be able to get better soon if you keep jumping around and not taking it easy! This stuff will help get your body back to normal temperature.”

“But if I’m asleep, I won’t be able to enjoy being with you,” he pouted.

I sighed, “You’ve got a point there, love. But…” I inched closer to him, making him back away, “I promised your mother that I’d take care of you, and that’s exactly what I’m going to do!”

“No!” he bounded for the door behind me, but this time I was too quick and I nabbed him with one arm.

“Gotcha’ lover.” I snicker. He whined and protested some more, but I hauled his little disobedient ass over to his bed. I set him down with a plop, and then start to pour some of the red liquid into that little cup that it always comes with. Quatre tried to get away again, but I halted him with a leg, and swung it around so I was straddling his body. He sneered at me. “Damn… if looks could kill!” I tease.

“You’re not fair!” he growled.

“You’ll thank me later.” I inform him.

“I’ll thank you with my hand on your bottom!”

“You promise?” I wiggled my eyebrows. Quatre groaned. He was resenting his choice of words.

“I’ll never kiss you again then!”

“Right!” I chuckled, “Like that’ll ever happen! Now open wide, sweetheart…”

Quatre stayed tight lipped. He turned his head away.

Then an idea hit me.

“Ok, ok.” I sighed. “You win. But on one condition.”

Quatre blinked in confusion. “Oh? What’s that?”

“You promise to kiss me.” I smile. He sighed.

“Oh, alright.”

“Close your eyes.” I ordered him. He did just that. I can’t believe he’s falling for this.

I filled my mouth with the cherry Nyquil, trying not to swallow it myself, and I leaned down to him. He opened his mouth as he felt my body lowering closer to him. I immediately latched my mouth to his and quickly disposed of the medicine into his mouth.

I kept my own eyes open just to see his reaction. His eyes popped open in surprise as the liquid entered his mouth. I pushed my tongue inside and held him steady. He struggled for quite a while before he finally surrendered and swallowed the stuff. We continued our little tongue match, but then remembered that his condition was catching, and I reluctantly released the kiss.

He smacked me across the face. It wasn’t a hard hit, and it wasn’t exactly soft either, but it stung!

“You lying bastard!” He growled and then pushed me off of him while I was still in shock.

“Hey now!” I went tumbling into the pillows. Talk about mood swings! Am I glad that he’s not a SHE and on the rag! He went out the door. Just great. Now my whole day is shot! “Quatre!” I called after him. He didn’t listen.

Just what I need... A pissed off boyfriend.

I went after him, of course. Before he could reach the stairs, I grabbed him by the elbow and turned him around. A pissed looking Quatre is not a nice sight.

“Let go, Duo!” he sneered. I wrapped my arms around his torso and held him close to me. The only thing that was racing through my mind was to stop him from being upset at me.

“Please, Quat,” I begged, “Don’t be angry. I’m only trying to help you.”

“You like lying to me??” he huffed.

“Quatre, please… that is hardly a big deal. I did it so you could take your medicine.” I tried to reason with him. 'Tried' being the key word here.

“A lie is a lie, Duo.” Now the sadness was seeping out of him. My grip loosened from the sight. “You think I won’t start wondering if you’re ever gonna lie to me again? Now that I know you can easily trick me and led me to believe you, do you think that I will ever trust you again?”

My eyes fall to the floor. “Quatre…”

“Well??” he shouted.

“I’m only trying to take care of you.” I look into his eyes again, showing him my deepest sincerity. “If you ever gotten worse because I wasn’t being strict enough, I’d never forgive myself.”

“Still,” Quatre glared, “There was no need to lie. I could have waited until it was time for bed before I took my medicine and all would have been fine.”

“But you need your rest.” I disputed.

“I know what I’m doing, Duo. It’s not like I haven’t had this kind of flu before. I can take care of myself! Now please, let go of me.”

I released him and he began to walk down the hallway to his room. I followed him to his door. He turned around to face me before shutting it.

“Quatre… sweetheart?” I said, with hope.

“Good night, Duo.” He turned away and closed the door.

I banged my head on the doorframe.

“Ouch.”
