A/N: Okay, NOW this is the last chapter for the time being. I promise to continue this as soon as possible. Please be patient for me.
Vegeta returned them to the inn they were at before and carefully laid Kakarot on the bed provided. He paced the room in a panic; not sure of what to do now. Finally, He caved and went to the broken window and kneeled on the shards of glass and looked up to the heavens. “I…I don’t know what to do. Please…tell me what I should do.” He looked at the cloudy sky with hopelessness. He made too many mistakes in the past in situations just like this, but apparently…made the wrong decisions without praying for them. So this time…He’d thought He’d try doing just that, even though it wasn’t exactly His thing. After a while, Vegeta received no response. Thinking that He was abandoned, He buried His head in His hands and began to weep.
“Patience, Vegeta. Give him time and he will accept You. Human minds are fragile. Your biggest flaw was never taking anything one at a time. This isn’t the first time Your impatience has lead You down this path. Let them process what You are capable of, besides overwhelming them. Give him time.”
Vegeta lifted His head at the calm and soothing voice; a few stray golden tears running down His handsome face. “Time.” He repeated the word as if it was the solution…but knew that it wasn’t. “But…human lives are short. By the time he’ll make his decision, he’ll be an old man or worse!” He gestured towards the form on the bed to the skies.
“If he is just an infant or an old man, he shall take the form his soul symbolizes. You should know that by now.”
The voice answered calmly, but impatience was evident in it as well. Vegeta nodded hesitantly as His shining tears continued to fall; unnoticed by His helplessness. “Right. I have forgotten that. My thoughts have been so preoccupied with him and the war…it just slipped my mind. A-And…if I just protect him and keep an eye on him, then the longer he’ll live until he makes his decision.” He took a breath and slowly let it out. “Time.” He repeated as if it would comfort Him.
“Vegeta, You know better than to waste Your tears. Put them to use. Your fated needs You.”
When the voice said its departing words, a ray of light shone through the gray clouds and illuminated the floor in front of the bed Kakarot laid upon; as if it were pointing towards him. Vegeta looked towards the bed in a panic and immediately rushed over to him. His eyes moved over the sleeping form in a hurry, as if to see something wrong with him. When He didn’t see anything, He ripped open the younger’s shirt and immediately saw road rashes on his chest and stomach from being dragged along the streets of dirt and gravel. Foolish Kakarot. Why didn’t he voice this to Him earlier? Vegeta produced more golden tears at the sight as He looked to the younger’s sleeping face then to the bloodied scratches again. He wiped the tears off His face and onto the wounds, which caused Kakarot to whimper lightly. Even though it burned a little, it caused his wounds to heal rapidly. Through the stinging on his abdomen, Kakarot woke at the feeling and looked to Vegeta, who was sitting next to him and letting His tears fall onto him. Kakarot watched the golden, unreal tears fall and heal his wounds in astonishment; both at seeing Vegeta shed them and what they did.
Kakarot gasped and sat up to wipe the tears from Vegeta’s face. “Vegeta…” He breathed out at the sight. Never before has he seen anyone produce such tears, let alone has he ever seen Vegeta cry. It was truly a wondrous sight.
“You see? I can do more than just destroy. I-I can do some good too.” Vegeta stammered slightly as His emotions took over. He closed His eyes when Kakarot took His face in his hands and wiped away some of His tears. He sighed while He concentrated on making them stop. He opened His eyes again and stared at Kakarot seriously. “I wish I could be whatever you wanted me to be, Kakarot…but I am who I am and I can’t change that. I love you, Kakarot. Do you feel the same? Knowing what I am and what I am capable of?”
Kakarot stared into the God’s glittering eyes for a moment before leaning forward and pressing his lips to His. Vegeta eagerly responded to the gentle gesture before Kakarot pulled away. “Vegeta…I care about You…a lot. I really do, but I think I need some time to…take it all in. Will You allow me that?”
Vegeta studied His fated one’s eyes for a minute before nodding and smiling. “Yes. I’ll allow that.” He stroked his face and hair, like He used to always do.
Kakarot smiled in return and nuzzled into the other’s hand. “Thank You.”
At that point in time, Vegeta knew He would do anything for this man. He would gladly send Himself to slaughter or hand the world to him on a golden, diamond ringed platter if it made him happy. This time, Vegeta leaned in for a kiss and Kakarot gladly accepted it. He pulled back and whispered, “You’re welcome.”
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
Vegeta didn’t move for ten hours as He watched Kakarot sleep. He thought of what His creator said and tried to think of how He could slow things down. He already showed His destructive side, now…He needed to show His caring side. Only His fated ones were to see that side of Him and only a select few have ever seen it. Kakarot gets to be one of them. So far, he has shown nothing but love towards Him…and curiosity, but He’s been hiding a lot from him, so it was to be expected. Vegeta was roused from His thoughts when Kakarot stirred from his sleep and yawned. He sat up and rubbed his eyes as he looked around. However, he began to panic when he couldn’t spot Vegeta in the dim lit room. “Vegeta?”
Vegeta stood from His seat. “I’m here.”
Kakarot turned to Him and smiled in relief. “Oh, good. I thought You left again.”
Vegeta walked over and sat next to him. “I promise I won’t leave again.” He said honestly as He held the younger’s hand.
Kakarot sighed. “I hope You keep it this time.” He clenched the other’s hand in return.
Vegeta hesitantly brushed the other’s hair from his tired face. “You’ve gotten taller. I think you’re about my height now.”
Kakarot looked at Him and smiled. “That’s what happens in six years. Things change.”
Vegeta smiled sadly. “Right.”
Kakarot grabbed the other’s hand on his face and pulled it away to look at it in thought. “Vegeta…were You the one…that burned that village?”
Vegeta’s smile fell as He looked at their hands. “Yes.”
Kakarot looked at Him then. “Why?”
Vegeta refused to look him in the eye; afraid He might hurt the younger. “Because it was necessary.”
He gripped His hand tighter. “But why?”
Vegeta sighed. “Because it was essential for the other side to…even the playing field…so to speak.”
“Vegeta, look at me.” He waited for Him to look at him. “Why can’t You just…end the war? Get it over with so You don’t have anything else to worry about and no more people can get hurt.”
“Oh, Kakarot. It’s not that simple…” He tried to turn His gaze away again but Kakarot took a hold of His cheek to return it to him.
“Why’s that?” Vegeta was getting a little irritated with the word ‘why.’
He scowled. “Because it’s my purpose. It’s why I was made. If I can’t fight then I have no reason to exist.”
Kakarot pulled away. “What about me?”
Vegeta’s scowl turned lax. “My main purpose is fighting. So, if I fight, then I must find a mate to be with me for eternity. It’s my punishment, I guess you could say.”
“Punishment?” Kakarot didn’t understand. Was being with Him not a good thing?
Vegeta stared at His hands. “Think about it, Kakarot. What human would want to be with me? All I do is destroy, which in turn causes them to fear me…which also hurts me. It feels like a punishment.”
Kakarot clenched His hand tighter. “You have me.”
Vegeta looked to him then. “That’s not the first time I’ve heard that. Next thing I know, something terrible happens.”
Kakarot’s features turned concerned. “What do You mean?”
He hesitated before He answered. “They die.”
Kakarot’s curious gaze turned to worry. “Yes. I remember you mentioning that before. Why is that?”
Vegeta narrowed His eyes. “I don’t know! They just do!”
Kakarot sighed. “I’m sorry. I just think…it’s odd is all.”
Vegeta sighed as well. “Well, you’re not the only one.” He stood then, suddenly wanting to move around.
Kakarot stood as well. “I’ll do anything you say. I’ll do whatever it takes to stay safe and so I won’t worry you.” He practically pleaded with the God so he may ease His fears.
Vegeta stopped His pacing and sighed then turned towards His fated one. “It doesn’t matter how safe you are or how close you are with me. They always end up getting killed.”
Kakarot went over to his God and grabbed His hand in comfort. “Please don’t give up on me. I know we can make it if we try.”
Vegeta leaned His forehead against the younger’s. “Oh, Kakarot. You haven’t been alive as long as I have. Things never go my way.”
“Well, you may never know unless you pick Yourself back up and keep moving forward. Like a great man once told me.” Kakarot smiled softly.
Vegeta slowly returned the smile and stroked the other’s face. “Maybe you’re right.”
Kakarot nodded and nuzzled into that heated hand as his face heated up from it. “Now tell me, why are You so warm? Warmer than most people anyway.”
The older watched him for a moment before answering. “It’s because…I’m made of fire.”
Kakarot’s eyes became half-lidded. “Fire?”
Vegeta nodded. “Every God that was created, was created for a reason. So they may control the elements that the universe provided. There’s lightening, water, earth, forces of gravity and other such energy. Then there’s emotions…like hatred, depression, power, greed, chaos…love.” His voice became deeper at the last word. “Basically everything that the universe is made up of and everything that mankind was gifted with. Every God was created for a reason…a purpose…and every power they possess comes at a price.”
Kakarot panted heavily. “Like, having to find a mate to spend with for eternity?”
Vegeta stared into those deep pools of black. “Yes.”
Kakarot pulled the hand away from his face so he may hold onto it. “But You have more than one power…” He trailed off in confusion.
Vegeta nodded. “Yes. Fire is one of the strongest elements. They didn’t know what to do with my kind of power, so they gave me more…made me have more of a purpose and came up with one.”
“To fight in wars.” Kakarot answered as it all came together. “So, they gave you more than one element, more than one force, so they could control You?”
Vegeta paused for a moment in thought. “Well, when you put it that way…yes.”
Kakarot stared off at something in thought before moving his gaze back to the magnificent being in front of him. “But why that kind of price? Why must You find a mate?”
He answered without thinking. “Every God’s price is something that is the opposite of them. Like say, the Goddess of Love. She must find someone of pure hatred and anger to get them to fall in love with her, but without using her gift. The God of power and lightening must find someone who is weak and defenseless to be with Him forever. And me? I need to find someone who is pure of heart. I have done all kinds of evil to do what I do best and my punishment for that,” He stroked Kakarot’s face, “Is to take an innocent. Doesn’t that sound like punishment to you?” Vegeta finished sadly.
Kakarot placed a hand on the God’s chest and slowly rubbed it up and down in a comforting gesture. “I’m so sorry. I haven’t thought of it that way. You must be so lonely and hurt.” He became tearful. “How’ve You been able to live with it all these years?”
Vegeta’s next words were spoken in a cold voice. “I don’t, but it’s something I have to do. No one said it was going to be easy. It’s just a part of our existence.”
Kakarot sighed. He was making it sound like it was all hopeless. He noticed something glittering at the corner of Vegeta’s eye. “And the tears? Are they…real gold?” He reached a hand up to gingerly touch it.
Vegeta caught his hand before he could and wiped it away Himself. “Yes, when they touch the earth, they turn into solid gold. Every God has them.”
Kakarot stared at Him in awe. “What about the healing?”
Vegeta shook His head. “I’m the only one that has tears that heal.”
Kakarot settled his hand on the God’s heated cheek. “Why were You crying?”
Vegeta looked like He’d been caught and tried to come up with an explanation. He cleared His throat and straightened Himself. “No reason.”
Kakarot smiled sadly. “Please tell me.”
Vegeta sighed. “Kakarot, I’m sorry what I put you through. I didn’t know how you felt or how you’d react. I figured that…you were like the others. I suppose I have a knack for scaring people away.”
Kakarot smiled and whispered, “You don’t scare me.”
Vegeta smirked back. “Then I guess I’ll have to try a little harder.” He stepped away and headed for the door. “I’ll let you get some more rest and some time to yourself. I know it’ll take more than a day to take it all in. We’ll move to a different town when you’re ready. It’s not safe here.”
Kakarot watched His back for a moment before stopping Him. “Wait. You haven’t told me what Your true form is.”
Vegeta paused then turned to him and smiled. “Another time.” Then left.
Kakarot sat down on the bed in an exhausted manner, but didn’t turn his gaze from the door. There was so much to consider. Vegeta was everything that people didn’t expect Him to be, but at the same time, He was. He wasn’t just a demon or just the bringer of death, He was more than that…a God. He was perfect. At the same time, He was dangerous to be around, but He can’t help it. It’s the way He was made. Just like mankind, Gods were created too. Then who created them? He shook his head. It was all too confusing…all too much. What happens now? Does he have to make his decision? He didn’t stay with Vegeta for five years though, like He said he would. Does that mean he’ll have to make one anyway? His head fell into his hands. What now? What’s he supposed to do now? He didn’t want to leave him, but he wasn’t so sure he wanted to stay with him. Maybe he should find a woman and have a family. That sounds so much more simpler, but he doesn’t want to break the God’s heart again. He’s been through so much already…what that was, he has yet to find out. No. He couldn’t do it now. He has to consider all of the possibilities in what he’s getting into. He’ll make his decision later. Right now, he wanted to focus on the immortal that was forced into his life. He wanted to know more about Him. The need was strong and the decision to do this felt right. Yes. He’ll stay with Him…for the time being.
