In order to update more often I decided to make the chapters shorter, so no more 20 page chappys from me. I’m sure you guys will appreciate it more this way. Thanks to my wonderful betas Goku-mum and to all of you who are reading, enjoying and reviewing this fic.
NC-17 for mature content, bad language and sexual situations...you have been warned.
Disclaimer: I do not own DBZ or any of its characters.
I want to clarify something a lot of you must be wondering. Although I have not incorporated a lot of flashbacks yet I will give you this little chart for future reference
Ages: Flashback three year re-tell (current)
Bardock: 32 52 55
Vegeta no Ou: 25 45 48
Raditz: 14/15 35 38
Toma: 28 48 51
Chivaa: 2to5 22 25
Vegeta: 0 to3 20 23
Kakarotto: new born 17 20
These are the main characters; remember Kakarotto and Raditz are remembering since the whole thing started three years before. Third person switches are what Bardock and the others are doing during that time, which is very relevant to the story, and flashbacks are from twenty to seventeen years before the initial three. The rest are irrelevant to the story, except for Celipa but her age does not matter so much
I hope you guys don’t get too confused, if so, feel free to email me with your ?’s^^.
Chapter Seven: Change
I walked down the long hall to her office. I have never been down here on my own, and I really was not looking forward to this... but the curiosity is simply consuming me.
I turn the familiar path with the rows and rows of stinking, screaming and moaning bodies, crumpled in their cells waiting for death’s release. I make my way through the door to her office to find her sitting at her desk... waiting for me.
“This has better be worth my time...Celipa” I said not bothering to cover my hostility, “What’s this nonsense about?” She turned her chair to face me, and motioned for me to sit; I of course ignored this and remained on my feet. The sooner I can get this over with and be back to my prince the better. She gave me a long look; her face showed no emotion whatsoever... but her eyes, it was as if she was weighting her options... what is wrong with her? Never have I seen her like this... hmph must be puberty, although I have no idea how old she is, I know she’s older than I.
“How long do we know each other Raditz?” I rolled my eyes ignoring her obvious question, “What I’m about to tell you can cost me my life.” Her eyes met mine. “I care about you... more than you could ever know... I thought that if I was a good little girl and did what I was told, things would fade away... and maybe, just maybe, one day you would find the strength to defy the one who took everything from you.” Her voice took a grave tone to it.
“What are you talking about... is all these decadence finally starting to take a toll on you?” I asked sarcastically, but very interested on what she had to say.
“When I said Vegeta-sama’s pet looked like someone I know, it was more for you to remember, than for him to know.” She stood and walked to me.
“Remember?” I said trying to make any sense out of it.
“Your father.” She stood so close to me that we were almost touching. I wanted to recoil from her, but her statement froze me solid where I stood.
“What do you know about my father?” I rasped, “He died when I was small... Vegeta no Ou killed him for being a traitor.” I stated firmly, that’s the story I’ve been fed all my life, but somehow I knew that it wasn’t so... too many pieces missing, to many patches in my mind that sometimes haunted me in my sleep. Now her telling me this made me feel as if I should have known, that I should have questioned it.
“When I first met you,” Celipa began, still mere inches from me, “You were a proud fourteen year old who thought could take on the world. You came and caused havoc to get what you wanted... which was exactly what you are now... Vegeta’s guard,” the looseness she used to refer to my prince would have bothered me had not being for the fact that I was shocked to my core. “You didn’t care who you pushed, who got hurt, just as long as you got your way... I admired that about you... and I think Vegeta no Ou did as well... a little too much.”
“Why are you telling me this?” I whispered scared for where this was leading.
“Because I was one of the ones you pushed. When you showed up...Vegeta became obsessed with you, to the point where he would not listen to reason, where he would kill any and all who opposed to the idea of you becoming the prince’s guard... and whoever didn’t like you for that matter. And you knew it, but you didn’t care as long as you reached your goal and ultimately you reached it leaving a trail of blood on your path.” Her arms came around my torso and took me into an embrace, my eyes opened wide with shock but I could not push her away. “That boy’s coming was not coincidental... nothing is, everything is pre-destined to happen before we are born... how we’ll live, what we’ll do and how we’ll die.” She continues after a long pause, my heart began to beat so fast that I thought it would burst out of my body at any moment. I wanted to say something to her, to ask her a thousand questions, push her off me, but still I could not.
“When my son was born, I was forced to give him up... along with my crown...” I froze, “back then I didn’t mind, I saw it as a blessing from the legendary... the end of my suffering and oppression.”
“Son...crown?!” The words left my mouth, but the voice was not my own. “Are you telling me... that you are Vegeta’s mother?!” my mouth went dry just from uttering the words.
“Carrier... not mother, that privilege was never given to me.” I stiffen, I tried to remember the Queen from long ago, I’ve always known that I met her before... I mean I must have, Vegeta hadn’t been born yet when I was appointed his guard... but why couldn’t I remember... and why was she still alive?
Dead... Vegeta’s mother was dead... that’s what I have been told and I never questioned it, I never cared.
“Its a lie.” I managed to mutter.
“It is not... and even if you can’t remember you know is the truth.” She held me tighter, I struggled with my memories, but no matter how hard I tried, still could not form a coherent path out of them, as if patches had been pasted on top of real pictures. The only clear memories I had were those of all the years I have spent with my prince. Teaching him, molding him, and all the years I have been a puppet to his father.... a willing puppet... but a puppet nonetheless.
I did push her off roughly and she fell back and on the ground, she stayed there staring to the floor allowing me to make sense of this... why now... why after so many years? A lie... it had to be a lie. But deep down something told me it was not. I grabbed my head and shook it from side to side, fighting with my own mind... why couldn’t I remember any of it... my father... mother... any of it?!
“Raditz!” Celipa snapped, still kneeing on the ground. I looked at her as if she was my ray of light in a dark tunnel “What I will tell you now will change your life forever... do with the knowledge what you must... I love you, I always have and I always will. If I have been spared might very well be for that reason. He enjoys torturing people so. To know you, to see you everyday and to know that you will never be mine... but regardless of that...” She came to me again, and dried a tear I hadn’t realized I shed. She took both my hands into hers and brought them to her lips... I had not strength left to fight “Your father was a High Priest named Bardock. He predicted my son to be the strongest the king would ever spawn... he also predicted many things in the three years he lived amongst us... all of which came to pass. He only had one fault... he never liked the idea of our Ou using you as a pawn to get his desires fulfilled. Bardock tried many times to convince me to intervene between you two, to talk the king into letting you go. But ultimately this infuriated the king, and no matter how useful Bardock was, no matter what the consequences for injuring a servant of the Legendary he snapped and turned his wrath on your father, the rest of your family and anyone else involved.” She paused to give me room to breathe, I felt like I was falling down this infinite precipice, my chest hurt with the effort it took to keep a roar from escaping me. Yet she did not forgive and continued with this torture.
“To all Bardock is dead... but it is not so.” Letting go of me, she walked to the other side of the room, giving me her back. I felt suffocated “I think the rest you should hear from him... I do not know where he is, he contacts me once in a while to ask me about you and more recently...” she turned to me “Look for him Raditz... in him lie all the answers... it is not too late for you.”
+++
“How long are you keeping the collar on him?” Turles asked concerned, the collar was not meant to be used for long periods of time... he was amazed that the boy had lasted this long with it.
“We’re keeping him here for now... I don’t need him running around in a rampage.” Toma answered sourly. His meeting with Bardock had amounted to nothing, his questions still demanded answers, not to mention the danger this would put them in would the Ouji decide to pay them a visit. At least he was able to find out what to do with Chivaa. “Take Chivaa to the rebels, she’ll be safe there,” the tall first class continued as he made his way down to Kakarotto’s holding room. Once here he peeped through the small hole. He smirked, it seemed that boy had adapted to the collar quite will. There he was levitating in the middle of the small room...’I thought you couldn’t meditate’ Toma mused to himself, and then smirked wider... ‘I gather our Ouji spent some quality time with you.” At that moment Kakarotto sensed him, setting foot on the floor he walked to the door. His face was gloomy and you could clearly see the effects of the collar around his eyes, his movements, although sure, were sluggish and forced. The boy was exerting himself more than he should.
“Who’s there?!” Kakarotto demanded and Toma only smirked again, even in the worst of situations the boy did not show fear. He opened the door expecting to be assaulted by the strong teen. Instead Kakarotto just stepped aside to allow him entrance.
“Well, I see you can still move around... I should look into that defective collar.” Toma smirked sarcastically; Kakarotto ignored him and just glared.
“Well?” the boy demanded.
“Well...what?” Toma’s smirk gone.
“Its been a while...I take it the ransom isn’t coming.” The defiance in his voice reminded him of a young Raditz... when he was Kakarotto’s age... that’s Bardock’s brat’s for you.
“We have not contacted the Ouji...yet.” Toma responded coldly, “I think we should have some fun with you before we do.” He added giving him his most perverted look.
“Then don’t bother...I doubt Vegeta will want used goods.” Kakarotto sat on the bed fumbling with the collar, his facade was starting to crack.
“Vegeta...! My... my, how grand to be able to address our Ouji so loosely.”
“Cut the crap, I bet you people call him worse... I am untouched... if you people have ‘your way’ with me, then you’ll truly be throwing money away.”
“I thought you said he’ll kill you.”
“Most likely... but I’m sure he’ll want me the way I was before I left.” Cunning little bastard... buying his time, thought Toma with a half smile.
“Where is the woman?”
“You ask too many questions for a prisoner.” Toma walked to the bed and sat on it as well, the boy instinctively moved away from him. “She’s no longer here.” Kakarotto’s eyes widened for a second, then his face returned to the impassive mask of stone it had been up until now.
“You sold her?” He asked in a low voice.
“Yes.” Toma lied, Kakarotto said nothing, “I got this for you.” He threw a small chip, which was easily caught by the boy; he examined it, not really knowing what it was. “It’s her tracking device.” Kakarotto’s eyes snapped to his.
“Tracking...?” he repeated softly.
“Vegeta-sama could have found you the moment you were gone, as long as you hanged with her... of course once here there are disruptors all around, but I gather you two were on your own for a while before we found you.”
“Then that means...”
“Don’t worry, we ran a scan on you, apparently the Ouji trusted you more than he should have...Poor Vegeta-chan, to mark somebody, only to find himself betrayed...” Toma had to stop himself, Kakarotto seemed somewhat affected by his words. The older man could not help but wonder what really went on while in the palace. He knew this two brats were destined for each other... at least according to Bardock, but really he would give anything to be there when these two meet again... then again, maybe not.
“I will ask you a question,” Toma began, “depending on your answer; I will give you a choice... why did you escape the prince?” The boy didn’t say anything, just lowered his head even further, Toma continued. “I mean, you don’t have a tracker, not a scar on you, you seem very well fed, and according to yourself untouched... and he marked you! I’d say you were treated better than most elites... hell, he isn’t even looking for you as far as we can tell... so why?”
“I have to kill him.” A small voice that didn’t sound his own left the boy’s lips. “Him, the Ou and his guard.” he continued, his voice growing in volume.
“Why?” Toma asked feigning ignorance.
“Why... what do you mean why?!” It was almost a shout now. “Do you like to live like this? You are an outcast... I am a third class, to all less than nothing. I happen to catch his fancy, but how long would that have lasted... and then what? Be killed, or be passed around his troops like a rag doll and end my days in dishonor!? I can’t do that... I have to give my people back their pride... their hope...their lives.” Hearing him speak, reminded Toma of a young Bardock, before his powers manifested. When they used to go to that desolated place to train, despite the fact they were not allowed to be friends. Elites and first class did not mix.
+++Flashback+++
They had fought all afternoon; Toma c har hardly keep up with his hyperactive childhood friend anymore, but still , they came everyday for the past... How long has it been since they became friends?
... too long, since the day Toma spilled valuable precious food all over Bardock-san’s bed as he took the heavy tray to the young elite’s quarters.
“What the fuck you think you’re doing... you pest!!” had yelled the rampageous boy, unfurling his long tail and wrapping it around the wraith like young first class’ wrist, who was almost to the point of wetting his pants. To throw him to the floor with it... if an elite’s tail can do this... what could the rest of their bodies do?
“Sorry Bardock-sama.” The lanky boy tried to apologize futilely.
“I don’t want to hear your excuses you brute... I want you to clean it with your tongue!!” a foot on the face pushed the lesser class towards the discarded meat. Ordinarily Toma would welcome the meal... but his pride screamed in fury. “Eat it you idiot!!” the foot pressed harder and harder, and he, without realizing it was resisting the humiliating act. A fist came to his side, and without analyzing or caring, he struck back.
Silence... overpowered everything else as the elite’s tail left his arm and his dark angry eyes met Toma’s... now you’ve done it... young Toma thought as panic overtook him. A kick to the groin followed, and yet his body refused to listen to reason, his mouth refused to utter an apology and he struck again. A punch... which he returned... and all too soon the two were in an all out fight... right in the young master’s room!
“What is the matter?!” Bardock-san’s mother came running into the room. They both froze in place.
“How can you allow them to bring this disgusting food to me kasan?! You know I don’t like roasted meat this early in the morning... it makes me sluggish during training... you do want me to get assigned to the palace don’t you kasan? And you what are you waiting for to clean this up!” Toma didn’t question why the one he had done the unforgivable to would lie, and began to pick the food off the floor... had it be known what really happened he would have been lashed... or worst.
+
“Why did you do it?” He had asked once the young master’s mother was gone.
“I need no reason to do anything... would you like me to call her back and tell her the truth?” Young Bardock smirked.
“NO!” Toma shouted sounding too desperate.
“Then you better keep me entertained...or else I can arrange a very painful future for you.”
+
Toma smirked as he looked into the sky, remembering that meeting. Not the healthiest way to start a friendship, but all these years later...even if they still fought and bickered like children, they were the best of friends.
“And if I was king I would end the classes forever, I would make all be equal and ... I know that we can all share the same ideals and help one another.”
“What the hell are you yappin’ about Bar-kun?” Toma snapped out of his day dream upon hearing these barbarities. “Who’s gonna wash your underwear huh?” He asked laughing like he always did. At some point it had gotten into Bardock’s head that they could all live in harmony and shit like that. Toma guessed they had their friendship to thank for that... still; it was relaxing to hear him talk all that nonsense.
“The third class I guess,” answered a reflective Bardock
“Aren’t they part of your ‘We can all live in harmony plan’?” mused the first class.
“They’re too stupid to understand...so I guess is alright to leave them as slaves.”
“That doesn’t sound too ‘majestic’ of you Bardock-sama.” Toma laughed in amused sarcasm.
“I haven’t work out all the details alright... there I said it... what you want from me!”
“Just say you have no idea what the hell you’re talking about.”
“Fuck you!” Before Toma could dodge Bardock had already grabbed him by the neck and was shaking his soul out of him.
“Fuck me! You whished you had a fuck as good as me... bastard!” and the bickering started all over again.+++End of Flashback+++
Toma smiled remembering the good old days, when they had nothing to worry about, other than to come up with a good excuse in the event they were found out. Now all these years later, and with a brand new set of circumstances, he found himself hearing the same nonsense his old friend, Bardock’s own son, was repeating word for word. Only it was not nonsense, it was happening at last... a year... maybe two at most and it will be all over...If what Bar-kun said was true.
“Toma?!” Kakarotto’s voice interrupted his thoughts.
“But you’re not a third class.” Toma said pointing one slender digit at Kakarotto.
“How do you...?” whispered the child in awe.
“You have a tail scar...very faint, invisible to the untrained eye; I deal with top class pets... my eyes are not untrained boy.”
“I...I...” Kakarotto struggled.
“You need not tell me why you want to pass as garbage, if that’s how you get your kicks who am I to interfere,” Toma said offhandedly, “Ok... I made up my mind, I’m sending you to the rebels... they’ll know what to do with you.”
“Rebels?” the boy sounded very confused... didn’t that knuckle head of a father thought him anything?
“Is a group whose sole purpose in life is to make royals and elites life a pain in the ass. Nothing ever comes out of it, other than the occasional black out, or an elite base blasted... but it makes them feel accomplished...you’ll fit right in.” Toma said inspecting the boy’s expression.
“I don’t want to be a pain in the ass to them...I want to destroy them, to make them admit that we’re all equals and can live as such.” Kakarotto’s eyes gleamed... he was Bardock’s brat alright.
“What you do of is your business; I just figured it’ll be a waste to send you to your death.” Toma finished.
“Thank you Toma...I will remember this always and I will repay you someday.” He said regally...hmph...were all Bardock’s brats so full of themselves...yes they were, and he wouldn’t have them any other way, Toma thought with a warm smirk.
“What happened to Chivaa?” Kakarotto asked using his daughter’s name for the first time, hearing it from him made him glad that the boy worried about her, just as she had worried about him as a child.
“She’s no longer here... but don’t worry, she was not sold as a pet, she’d only wind up at the palace and both you and I know that’s the last place she deserves to go to.
“You’re very kind.” Kakarotto replied.
“Don’t thank me yet...you’ll be cursing the day I was born if you ever get caught.” Toma smirked and Kakarotto smirked back.
+++
I lay on my bed replaying the conversation over and over. I hadn’t meant to ask, but it just came out... maybe I am too trusting, or maybe I am just too worried over the fact that I did something irrevocable and I do not know how to deal with it.
+
“Do you know anything about mating?” I foolishly asked the man who held me captive. But I was desperate, during the whole time I have been here I’ve done nothing but think about it... how to control it... use it in my favor...overcome it.
Sometimes I swear I could feel him, troubled, confused... just as I am. And every time I feel him I whish I was back at the palace, to wake up and find Vegeta sitting on his chair staring at me with those obsidian eyes that speak to me very soul... waiting for me to wake up.
“I had a mate... why you ask.” Toma responded skeptically as if reading my thoughts.
“Well...I...”
“Don’t tell me you mated my...I mean the woman you were with!” He sounded worried...why... who knew? But I whished that was all.
“I wish it was that simple.” I said gravely, watching his expression as it hit him... going from worried to shock in an instant. I said it even though I pretty much knew he’d guessed it already.
“I kind of marked the Ouji,” my voice hardly my own.
“You what?!” Toma said after regaining his composure, I only felt even more shame and looked down, unable to meet his eyes.
“I bit him on the shoulder...I marked him.”
“And he has not looked for you...even if to shut you up...I don’t like the sound of that.” Toma switched gears and was now pensive about the whole thing. “I thought you said the Ouji hasn’t touched you,” the older man continued.
“I didn’t say that...he just hasn’t...y’know...” I flushed and turned away, “I don’t know why, I know he wanted to...he did other things.” my flush grew deeper.
“I hate to tell you boy, but there is not much you can do about it now. I mean a mark is permanent and definite, your souls are intertwined with each other’s, chances are he knows where you are, and has all along...shit you can’t stay here...or go to the rebels, when he decides to claim you back, there will be no where for you to hide!”
“He didn’t mark me...I mean other than this seal.” I said pointing at my thigh.
“He didn’t bit you back?”
“No.” I dared look at him.
“Brat...you scared me there! Well if that’s the case as long as you don’t let him in, he won’t be able to find you...but still.”
“Still what?!”
“He can feel you...rather, feel when you’re in danger and such, but if he doesn’t care, he’ll just ignore it.” He said giving me hope...not that I didn’t believe Chivaa, her hunches had proved to be correct, but she was not mated to anyone, and a book can only tell you so much.
“Everybody keeps saying that...but I don’t think I know how to hide from him and he is very good at playing with people’s minds. I know if he tries to find me he will,” the helplessness in my voice made Toma gasp...great now the guy felt sorry for me.
“Well then I guess I’m gonna have to teach a thing or t.or .or three.”
+
After a few pointers he left me, telling me not to worry, that everything would be alright, and that he wouldn’t divulge my secret. More for my safety than anything else...why did he care? I got up and rubbed my neck, where the collar had been...I couldn’t be more grateful to Toma for removing it; it had felt as if the evil apparatus was sucking the life out of me.
...Vegeta...can you feel me no Can Can you feel the doubt in my heart? I Love you, I hate you, but regardless of my feelings I know that I must kill you. That is the only way to get free...truly free. Toma’s words once again came back.
“If you kill him, it will be as if killing a part of yourself...are you sure you want to do that...are you sure you can do that?”
I am sure...for the good of our whole race. I must.
