Dangerous Affairs 11/?
Heero left Treize's office a little more than disturbed by the turn of events. It was clear to Heero that he would have no choice but to go back and interrogate the woman. No doubt she would love that. Thus far the true culprit had eluded them. Who ever it was, was obviously very careful, leaving no c at at the crime scene. Heero was certain that it would only be a matter of time before over confidence got the better of the sick individual and their elusiveness would come to an end. He walked into the office that he shared with Duo; not even noticing his partner sprawled out on their couch.
Duo watched as his lover walked into their office, the look on Heero's face letting Duo know that there was something bugging him. He waited until Heero set the files on his desk and sat down, sighing deeply. "Something you need to share, Heero?"
"Oh, Duo. I'm sorry, I didn't realize you were there," Heero apologized.
"It's okay, Heero. I know you've got a ton on your mind with this case. What I want to know is how the hell he manages not to leave any damn evidence."
"I was just thinking the same thing on the way back here," Heero informed him.
Duo sported a worried look as his companion packed his desk up for the evening. "This sucks, Heero. We have no clues, no leads; well not anything we can use, so my next question is; what do we do now?
Heero turned and gave his lover a determined look. "We continue to question the victim's families and check out forensics to see if they've found anything yet. Whomever's doing this, whether it be one or more persons, they'll slip up sooner or later, Duo; and when they do, that's when they'll come undone." He finished sorting his desk and zipped his laptop into its bag, slinging it over his shoulder. "Let's get out of here, Duo. I promised you I'd take you out tonight and I'm not going to let this put a dampener on things."
Duo unglued himself from the couch and from behind wrapped his arms around his lover’s waist, resting his chin on Heero's shoulder. "I know you'll find who ever it is; and no matter what, Heero, I'll be right here by your side all the way."
Heero felt his face flush red. That had been the most precious thing that Duo had ever said to him and he placed his hands over those of his lover's. "Arigatou, Duo. I know you will."
Duo turned his lover to face him and gently placed a brief, soft kiss to his lips. "I'll always be by your side, Heero. I love you."
Heero couldn't help the smile that crept up on his face. "I know you do, Duo and even though I may not always be great at showing it, I love you too."
Duo grinned. "In that case, I hope we're going somewhere expensive."
Heero rolled his eyes and laughed. "Come on, we're out of here."
Duo grabbed his bag from the floor by the couch then followed Heero out of their office. He was looking forward to some time alone with his lover.

Quatre waited for Wu Fei as he locked the door to their office. The Chinese man pulled on the handle to make sure it was secure and thurneurned to Quatre. "Are you working with those two again tomorrow?"
"I would like to, WuFei, that is as long as it's alright with you of course?" he asked as he followed the Chinese man down the corridor and out into the car park
WuFei gave a slight nod of his head. "Just make sure you keep Maxwell in line."
Quatre grinned. "I'll do the best I can, WuFei, but you know how stubborn he can be. Anyway… I need to get going otherwise I'll miss the next transport home."
"Not getting a lift with the other two?" WuFei asked as they stopped by his car.
"Since they're going out tonight I told them I'd make my own way home and I told Duo I'd go past the post office and grab him some stamps." Quatre replied.
"I see. Well, how about I give you a lift? I drive right past the post office on the way home and it's not that much further to your place from therehe Che Chinese Detective offered.
Quatre smiled at his superior. "Thanks, WuFei. I'd appreciate that, but aren't you going out too?"
"Not until later so there's no problem." He put his hand up as the blonde went to protest,. "It's fine, Quatre, really." He opened the passenger side door for the blonde and motioned for him to get in. "You're also going out tonight aren't you?"
"Yeah, I'm heading out to the night club. I plan on sitting in an inconspicuous dark corner just veg ang and drinking lemon-lime and bitters."
Wu Fei let himself into the car. "I thought gay men went to night clubs to find a bedmate for the night."
Quatre laughed. "Not all gay men are like that, Wu Fei; especially not me. I mean, if some one offers I'll certainly think over my options, but I just like to listen to the music, feel the atmosphere and stay out of the way."
"As long as you enjoy yourself I guess that's the main thing."
"My sentiments exactly. So, what's Treize cooking you and Zechs for dinner?" the blonde inquired as WuFei steered the car out of the Preventer car park, flashing his ID to the control man at the gate.
" I have no idea. All I know is that I am providing dessert."
"Cooking or cheating?"
"If by cheating you are suggesting that I am intending to go to the store and purchase desert, then yes, I am, as you say; cheating," WuFei acknowledged
“So much easier that way,” the blonde grinned
“I prefer to k ofk of it as being resourceful.” The Chinese man paused for a moment and then changed the topic. “So, what have you three got planned for tomorrow’s schedule?”
Quatre shrugged. “As far as I know we’re continuing on with the questioning of the victims families.”
WuFei gave a slight snort. “There’s been too many deaths as far as I am concerned. I just hope that who ever it is gets caught as soon as possible.”
Quatre was only too happy to agree. “So do I, Wu Fei, so do I.”

Heero pulled into their driveway and turned the engine off. Duo was the first to escape the confines of the car and headed over to unlock the front door. Heero locked up the car and followed the end of the braid as it flicked around the doorway and into their ‘humble abode' as Duo quite happily called it. Walking into their small home office, Heero placed his laptop on the small desk and headed back out into the hallway towards their bedroom. Duo had already scored the shower so Heero searched through his closet for something to wear. He finally decided on his blue silk shirt and his stone wash denims. He laid them out on the bed just as Duo returned from the bathroom.
“What do you think I should wear, Heero?” Duo inquired, noting Heero’s clothes neatly arranged on their bed.
"Clothes would be good."
"Smart ass..."
"You could always go in your birthday suit." Heero smirked.
Duo gave an amused snort. "Oh yeah, I'm sure the patrons would just love that."
"I certainly wouldn't complain," came the immediate response.
"I'm sure you wouldn't you cheeky shit. Now go take your shower so we can blow this joint and have some down time."
Heero laughed as he headed for the bathroom, his voice trailing off as he went. "Throw on your black silk shirt and your leather hipsters. They look sexy on you." He shut the bathroom door behind him.
“You just wanna perv at my ass,” Duo hollered back, a big grin on his cherub like face.
Heero stuck his head back around the door. “And your well toned abs.” He grinned shutting the bathroom door again as Duo’s wet towel headed towards him, bouncing off it as his lover retreated.
“Idiot…” Duo whispered affectionately.

Quatre waved to WuFei as he pulled out of the driveway, then turned and headed for the front door and unlocking it, stepped inside. Pushing the door shut with one hand, he reached down and checked his answering machine for messages with the other, reset the machine and made a beeline for his room. He glanced at the clock on his bedside drawers. 5.30pm. The nightclub didn't open until eight. That would give him enough time to have something to eat, get showered and be there at opening time. He grabbed a fresh set of clothes from his closet and set them out on his bed for later.
As he left his room and headed for the kitchen his cell 'phone rang. He pulled it from his shirt pocket and flipped it open. "Winner speaking."
The voice on the other end almost bounded back at him. "Yo, buddy. Did you remember the stamps?"
"Duo, is that all you rang for?" Quatre laughed.
"That and the fact that Hee boy is in the shower and I'm bored. So, did you remember?"
"Yes, Duo, I remembered and I'll bring them tomorrow for you like I said I would."
"Thanks, Quat, you're a legend. I'll catch you tomorrow then."
"See you then, Duo," Quatre replied. Duo hung up and shutting his off, Quatre placed his cell 'phone next to the bowl of fruit on the kitchen table, then set about making his evening meal.

WuFei pulled into the car park of the local supermarket. Exiting the car he locked it and made his way into the store heading for the frozen foods aisle. Locating the required section, WuFei stopped in front of it and perused the freezer for something suitable to take with him for dessert tonight.
His eyes roamed over the many different choices of desserts; it was then that he realized he had no idea what the other two liked. His eyes finally came to rest upon something that seemed to be a hit with most other people he knew. He picked up his choice, absentmindedly reading the box as he did so, “Larah See, rich chocolate mudcake; let us add a little sweetness in your life.” WuFei wrinkled up his nose wondering what kind of simpleton invented that little gem of a line. Shrugging his shoulders as if in answer to his own thought, he turned and made a beeline for the nearest checkout. Paying for the mudcake and then returning to his cWuFeWuFei placed it on the passenger’s seat beside him and was about to start the engine when a voice he recognized interrupted his actions.
“I see you’ve picked up our desert, WuFei.”
WuFei turned to face the speaker. “Normally I would make something myself, but as I only received the invite earlier today I wouldn’t have the time to put my true talents to use.”
“I admire your confidence in your own abilities. As for myself, I’m afraid I am more of a disaster in the kitchen than anything."
“Practice, Zechs, that’s all it takes.”
“I’ll take your word for it then shall I? Personally, I’m also a little too lazy. I get the cook to do all my cooking.”
"I would call that smart rather than lazy. Don't suppose I would be able to avail of your cook's services, now would I?"
Zechs laughed. "Sorry WuFei, but Noin is not for lease, rent, loan or hire."
"Thought as much." WuFei smiled knowingly.
"Well I had better be going, I'm supplying the beverages for this evening and the store shuts in ten minutes."
"I'll see you later then, Zechs."
"Definitely," Zechs said as he waved and moved off.
WuFei returned the wave and then starting the car up and drove off. He had no idea what he was in for tonight, but with those two involved, it had to be something more than just talk about a case over dinner.

Duo sat quietly in the car waiting for Heero to join him. He sighed to himself and leant back in his seat, placing his hands behind his head and closing his eyes. They had to be missing something; something so small that even they couldn't see it just yet. "Damn!" Duo cussed aloud.
"Damn what, Duo?" Heero asked, slipping into the driver's seat next to his lover.
"We're missing something, Heero. We have to be."
"I don't think so, Duo." Heero patted his pockets. "I have my car and house keys, my wallet my credi...."
"No, Heero," Duo groaned rolling his eyes. "The case, you moron."
“Moron... that's pretty tame for you, isn't it?” Heero grinned.
“Ha bloody ha, Heero. Be serious would you!?”
Heero gave his lover a sideways glance.” Shit, that's rich coming from 'Mr. Comedy' himself.” Duo opened his mouth to retaliate, but Heero continued on. “And anyway, Duo, I said earlier that we'd go by forensics and see if they've come up with anything yet. But right now all I want to do is relax and spend some quality time with you.”
Duo's mouth clamped shut. He hadn't expected his lover to say something like that. “Sorry, Heero,” he replied meekly after a few seconds.
Heero gave the young man a reassuring smile and placed a hand on his knee. “I know you mean well, Duo, but let's try not to let it envelop us, hey? And if it makes you feel a little more at ease, I promise you we will deal with it first thing tomorrow morning when we get to work. I'll ring forensics and make sure it's okay for us to head on over there how does that sound?”
Duo sighed a wistful sigh and nodded. “Thanks, Heero.”
“For what?”
“For loving me enough put up with my crap.”
Heero smiled at the young man sitting next to him. “I think I should be thanking you for putting up with mine.”
“So, I guess we're even then.” Duo grinned.
“Looks like it to me. So no more talk of work tonight. Deal?”
“Deal.”

Trowa Barton unlocked his front door and stepped inside. He made his way to the answering machine after shutting the door behind him, sighing as he saw the red light flashing, indicating that someone had indeed decided to bother him. He pressed the rewind button and played back the tape.
“Mr Barton, this is Doug Setnoer. We had an appointment set for tomorrow at 11.30am, but I'm afraid I can't make it. If possible could we reschedule for the beginning of next week? Thanks.”
Trowa erased the message. He'd ring Setnoer back tomorrow at his own convenience. He listened as the second message played through.
“Trowa this is Catherine. I suggest you call me back as soon as possible.”
The message ended abruptly and Trowa erased that too. He set the answering machine back up and headed towards his room. He'd have time for a shower and something to eat before heading out to the club.
As he reached his bedroom, he stopped still. He had shut his door this morning before he left for work, so why was it now ajar?
There was only one way to find out.
