I also do not own the song or lyrics One Night in Bangkok by Murry Head.
I had no idea that the song was actually part of a larger stage show named ‘Chess’ written by Benny Andersson, Bjor Ulvaeus and Tim Rice. Which I own no rights to either.
I am not making any money from this work of fanfiction.
A/N- This is actually a G/V get together fic. However, some of the other pairings may surprise you. :) I think there’s only one cannon couple in here. Obviously VERY A/U.
I hope this is a fun read for anyone who may be interested in such a combination.
Beta’d by Hoshi. Thank you Hoshi! (And thanks to rdk for catching a few others).
(DBZ/chess (the game, not the play.))
Rating – PG13 – or at least that’s what I was hoping for.
Warnings – OOC, A/U, mentions and kisses of M/M, mentions and kisses of M/F, chess, foul language, some minor roles of OC’s.
Round 10
Chichi stirred from her sleep at a gentle nudge to her shoulder. She embarrassingly wiped the drool off her face as her eyesight became more focused. “How did it go?” she asked Vegeta.
She did not receive an answer immediately, but she was too tired to notice the introspective look in Vegeta’s features. “I won the last game. It lasted longer than the rest of the games by a half hour.”
It was then Chichi finally noticed how quiet it was in the room. She peered around her environment to notice how empty it was. “Where did Sage go?” she asked, somewhat disappointed she had not been able to say good-bye.
“We sat and talked while we had a drink of water.” Vegeta said as he stood. “He left a some time ago, but I was too busy…contemplating after he left to really notice the time. It wasn’t until one of the staff asked if you were okay that I realized how late it was. I apologize for having kept you here so long. Especially since you have plans for today.”
Chichi brightened considerably at the mention of the plans set for the day ahead. Vegeta laughed as he read the excitement in her eyes. “I’ll bring Radditz with me, if you would like?”
“Please!” Chichi exclaimed.
“Consider it done, although I would advise you let the rest of the fighters wear him down before you test your fighting abilities against him.” Vegeta suggested.
“Why would that be?” Chichi asked. She knew the prince had a reason, even if he was not mentioning it.
“I am not certain he would remember where he was and who you were if he was fresh. His hormones might get the better of him.” Vegeta said casually as he started to head towards the exit.
Chichi gathered her purse and quickly followed. “Really? He looks older than to be subjected to his hormones to me.”
Vegeta stopped and turned in her direction. “Sayians are very affected by their animalistic side…”
He was interrupted. “Sayians? Is that what your people are called?”
It took Vegeta a moment to realize he had not given the name of his race before. “Yes.” Pride was almost tangible in his one word answer.
The two of them exited the building without much more conversation, both lost in their own thoughts.
At the edge of the sidewalk they both stopped. Chichi pulled her capsule case from her purse and selected her hover car. She tossed the object into the street after she pressed the button. The mechanics of the technology never ceased to amaze Vegeta. “I can drive my self home, if you want to head back to your place and rest up before this evening.” Chichi stated.
Vegeta smiled. “Thank you. I do think I would like to see to some things before Radditz and I head to your place later today. My other guard will probably attend as well.”
Chichi climbed into the driver’s side of her vehicle, and waved. “I’ll see you later then. I have a lot of things to get done before company comes!”
Vegeta nodded, although he did not wave back. The custom still seemed strange to him. He waited until she was some ways away before heading back to the establishment he and his men were renting while in this area.

“Goku!” Bulma’s voice hissed in their darkened room.
“Yeah?” he replied as he punched his pillow into a more comfortable shape.
“Would you STOP shuffling around, please?” Bulma said. Her brother had been fidgeting in his bed for more than thirty minutes. He was distracting her from getting her beauty rest.
“Sorry sis, it’s just that I am…” Goku was interrupted.
“Excited? I know. You haven’t been able to sit still since the arrangements to go to Chichi’s were made,” Bulma said as she rolled over to the side facing away from her brother. “Poor Cicely thought it was her. Get some rest. You’ll be better able to show off.” She smirked to herself.
There was a short-lived bark of laughter from her brother before he settled down. ‘Finally!’ Bulma thought to herself. She had seriously been thinking about finding some tranquilizers.

It was warm enough Vegeta had pulled his jacket off and was carrying it over one shoulder. The walk back to their temporary housing was somewhat pleasant, or at least, quiet. There were some alleys Vegeta would not be visiting again any time soon. Their stench was atrocious.
Early morning risers were just beginning to get going on their way to places of employment by the time he made it to their front door step. He took a moment to kick off his shoes at the entrance, not wanting to track stray alley debris in.
He tossed his jacket over the back of the couch and headed towards his bedroom at the end of the hall. He heard snores coming from both of his guards’ rooms, but (for once) neither of them seemed to be the snores that accompanied them in their sleeps if they had been drinking heavily.
Vegeta shut the door quietly behind him as he entered his room. He lit one candle sitting a low table before making his way over to the sleeping mat provided, and sat down to started doing a few upper body stretches while settling his mind for some meditation. It was too late to get a full measure of sleep.
The stretching drew attention to his body. The planet’s light gravity was starting affect his muscles. He grimaced at the thought. It was going to take a lot of training to rebuild lost muscle mass and supplements to heal any depletion of his skeletal structure. Training was not going to be too bad. He actually liked the heavy schedule he was able to fit in while he was on his home planet. The supplements on the other hand…he cringed at the thought of their taste.
He settled his arms to his sides and closed his eyes. He let his thoughts have their random way for a few minutes before tamping down. ‘Time to rest’ he thought to his own mind. His inner vision turned to grasses blowing in a night-covered field. Constellations in the familiar sky overhead were set for a couple of hours before the sun rose.
He’d wake to the dawn on his home planet.

“Chichi! Calm down!” Ox King chastised his daughter.
“Oh…I am so sorry, I didn’t mean to snap at you Lyhn. It’s just…well, it’s been a long time since I’ve had this kind of company over.”
Lyhn smiled at the princess, “It’s alright your highness. If it is any consolation, I am just as worried as you are. Those three we had earlier this week were bad enough, but to add a forth without the same amount of prep time? Oh, it just seems preposterous.”
Ox King listened to the ladies of his household talk about the coming company. He had seen the way they’d had to work in order to get enough food together for the prince and his bodyguards. “Chichi, I have an idea,” he spoke up suddenly.
“Daddy?” Chichi turned to look at her father.
“I am going to call a catering service. We don’t usually splurge like this, and I don’t see it becoming a habit,” he nodded to himself as he turned to grab the phone book.
Chichi sat suddenly in one of the kitchen chairs, her hand held against her forehead, “Oh, why didn’t I think of that?”
Ox King smiled as he dialed the number. “Because dear, you were wanting to impress them with what you can do. I figure, if you are going to be showing off your fighting prowess this time then you shouldn’t have to do the cooking also.”
The women in the kitchen cheered. This was the sort of behavior that made the man such a popular king.
“Hello? Yes, I’d like to discuss a catering event to happen this afternoon…How many guest Chichi?”
“Well, there will be nine guests total, not including those here that would normally eat with us. Four of those will probably be eating about the equivalent of five people. Better make it for 55 people just to be on the safe side.”
“55 people. Uh-huh…not a problem….Ox King’s palace…” Ox King got a funny look on his face. “No, really, it’s not a problem. You don’t have to do that…well, okay, thank you…What time Chichi?”
“Those that are coming to fight will be here around 3’ish. The main course should be saved for around 6’ish.”
Both Ox King and Chichi turned to look at Lyhn as she spoke, “We can put an abundance of snacks together for the early arrivals.”
Ox King smiled, “Be here at 5 pm? Thank you very much,” the king hung up the phone. “Now,” he said as he turned to his daughter, “You should go and get some rest before the guests arrive.”
Chichi wasn’t certain if she could sleep, but it was a better plan than pacing the halls, “Thanks Dad.”
Ox king smiled and waved her away.

Nappa snorted and jerked awake as something collided with his face. He grimaced at the dirty sock, “What?” he asked while refusing to rub his eyes like a cub.
“Got places to be!” Raddtiz said as he walked away from the doorway.
Nappa ran a palm over his face as he yawned, stretched, and then got up off the floor. He glared at the small, basically useless pillow as he got up. He took a whiff of himself and grimaced as he went to the doorway. “How long before we leave?”
“Soon,” he heard his prince reply.
“Do I have time to shower?” he asked.
“ALWAYS!” both his fellow guard and his prince yelled back.

Bulma used a paper fan to cool herself as she adjusted her sunglasses. She was happy the three of them had shown up late; the fighters were still sparing. She reached for her iced tea, taking a soothing sip while watching her brother with one of the Prince’s guards. Yamcha and Krillan were lying on their back in the shadow cast by one of the courtyard’s towering walls. She and her companions had come in at the tail end of their spar; two against one with the other guard, and he was standing behind his prince as though nothing strenuous had occurred. One would have thought all that hair would have made it impossible for him to fight in the first place.
The genius frowned; why had she never seen any of these fighters on circuit when Goku was still fighting tournaments?
“They are quite good,” Jane said as she sat down in a chair on the backside of the umbrella-covered table. Bulma wondered briefly where she had been.
Eddie looked up from his study of Bulma’s schematics. He adjusted his reading glasses some, so he could see the distance better, before shrugging. “Never been a big fan of the martial arts.”
Bulma chuckled at the fraternal twins. They may have been born on the same day, but they were as different as night and day in interests and looks. The only similarities were body build and those intense, blue eyes they shared, “My brother would frown to hear you say that, Eddie,” Bulma stated in a friendly manner.
Eddie turned his attention to Bulma, smiling; he was really enjoying the attention the heiress of Capsule Corp was giving him…if he didn’t know better…. “We’ll have to build sturdier launching pads for them to with stand the pressure of both the gravity field, and the regular wear of a launch…” why did he always turn to business when he wanted to talk with her?
Jane smiled at her brother’s floundering attempts to impress Bulma. “I am going to go and see if your friends would like some water,” she said as she got up, finding an easy excuse to leave the two of them alone.
Bulma grimaced, “Just don’t let Yamcha talk you into anything,” she warned her friend.
Jane smiled a knowing smile, but said nothing as she went to grab a pitcher of water and a couple of glasses. Bulma shook her head; why hadn’t she thought of comfort when dressing for this like Jane had? Of course, she really hadn’t taken into consideration what the temperature was going to be outside, she had planned most of this trip to be indoors. She picked an ice cube out of her drink and sucked on it.
Krillian stirred from the ground as a female voice asked, “Would either of you boys care for some water?”
He looked up to see one of Bulma’s friends handing out a glass. “Yeah, thanks babe.” Yamcha beat him to the first glass.
“Sure, um, thank you,” Krillan barely managed as the blonde turned her attention to him.
“You are very welcome…” Jane gave the short man a hopeful look and when he didn’t respond immediately asked, “Do you have a name?”
Yamcha frowned, not used to his shorter, noseless friend gaining attention from attractive female strangers so quickly.
Krillan grinned and blushed. “Krillian,” he said, sticking his hand out for a shake.
Jane shook it. “Jane,” she stated before taking a seat on the ground next to him, totally ignoring the other fighter. “So, what do you think?” she asked, jerking her chin in the direction of the overly large man Goku was fighting.
“To be honest? I’ve never seen Goku struggle this much to keep up in a fight, not even against Piccolo,” Krillan said with a small frown, before shaking his head. “It makes me happy these guys are here on friendly terms. I’d hate to have been tangled up in a real fight against Radditz.”
“Radditz?” Jane asked.
Krillan shifted his attention to the longhaired fighter standing behind the shorter stranger, “That one.”
“Ah,” Jane voiced, before turning her attention back to the spar in process.
Radditz looked over at the group of humans on the ground as he heard his name, but quickly shifted his attention back to the fight. This human wasn’t too bad at physical fighting, although it was probably a good thing Vegeta had coached them not to use ki attacks; he would have never been able to handle a blast from Nappa.
Goku found a grin was hard to keep in place, even though he was enjoying himself immensely against his opponent. This man made him work hard! At first he had fretted about the set 30-minute bouts, but now he was relieved the gong would go off in another few minutes. Although he had mixed feelings about sparing with Prince Vegeta, he wouldn’t let the opportunity to do so pass by untouched.
Nappa laughed and drew back as the Ox King sounded the gong. “Well done,” he said in his overbearing voice.
Goku panted and grinned up at the giant of a man. “Thanks, but you were better!”
Nappa smirked as he turned and strolled over to take his place at his prince’s back.
Chichi gulped and stood as she realized it was her turn against Radditz. After having watched him go against two excellent fighters and not even break a sweat, she wasn’t feeling so confident. Without their bulky armor on, she realized these aliens were still well built.
Vegeta growled lowly as Radditz started to take his place in the marked off fighting area. “Take it easy on her, but don’t toy with her,” he warned.
Radditz’ tail bristled at his prince’s unnecessary warnings; he had no intentions of hurting this female, or trying to injure her pride. Instead of the tart remark that wanted to make its way out of his mouth, he nodded his head and bit his tongue.
Goku wandered over to where Krillan, Yamcha and Jane sat in the grass. “Thanks,” he said as Krillan handed him the glass he had been using, and Jane poured him some water. “These guys are amazing,” he finally said after gulping the water down, and catching more of his breath. He leaned his back against the cool surface of the wall, readying to watch the next round. Honestly, he didn’t know what to expect from Chichi, but he knew she was going to have a very difficult time with the mountain of the man she was facing, if Krillan and Yamcha had had a difficult time together against him. One of his eyebrows rose as he watched Jane lean in and whisper a comment to Krillan. He smiled faintly at the frown this drew from Yamcha, but said nothing; it was about time his short friend got some attention while the ex-thief had to sit on the sidelines.
Vegeta could tell Radditz had slowed greatly within the first minute of his spar with Chichi. It seemed the tall warrior had gauged his opponent, and deemed this route. He was by no means insulting her, as she was struggling just to keep the pace, but Vegeta, along with everyone else, gave her a rousing bit of applause as the bout ended, and she had managed to last the whole thirty minutes against her opponent.
Radditz stared down at the tiny woman as she caught her breath. He was a bit concerned, and didn’t want to leave the fighting area until he knew she could make it off of the field on her own. Unfortunately, standing so close to her after her exertions…the tip of Radditz’ tail twitched as it wanted to express his concern for her health, but he kept it in check…barely.
Chichi looked up at the hand that came into her view. “My lady,” Radditz offered. A part of her was frustrated; she didn’t need anyone’s help.
Another part of her was flattered at his show of chivalry. She chose the latter with a winning smile. “Thank you,” she said as she fit her seemingly tiny hand into his.
Radditz forced the growl of approval to stop midway through his chest. Instead, he focused on Chichi’s actions, taking it slow off the field, but making it seem as though it was his idea.
Nappa snorted quietly. “He’d better keep it in check,” he commented to his prince.
Vegeta shrugged. “He’s not you,” he said before he took to the field.
“What’s that supposed to mean?” Nappa grumbled under his breath.
There was a slight commotion at the entrance to the courtyard, and then the Ox King announced, “Foods here!”
Goku sighed uncharacteristically in relief, “Phew, I am happy…”
“You’re always happy when there is food,” Yamcha interrupted as he stood.
Goku nodded his head. “Well, yeah, I guess, but I was going to say I was happy I get a longer break before having to fight again,” he grinned at his friends’ stunned faces, “What? He was good!”
Krillan shook his head. “I’ve never met somebody who is always excited about finding a stronger opponent.” Goku shrugged while climbing to his feet, not having anything to say to that.
