Bulma yawned as she made her way down to the lab. It was early in the morning, earlier than she normally got up but she had woken up and couldn’t fall back asleep, so she decided to head to the lab and finish Lyri’s gravity necklace. She was almost done and was excited to give it to her friend. She walked into the lab, and jumped, suppressing a scream. Kiki was sitting at her work station, waiting for her.
“You scare easily,” Kiki said.
“I wasn’t expecting anyone to be down here,” Bulma told her.
Kiki shrugged. “Well, I apologize if I scared you.”
“That’s ok,” Bulma said, “Um...did you need anything?”
“Yes, as a matter of fact, I do,” Kiki said, “You are an inventor, are you not?”
“Yes?” Bulma asked.
“Can you make something for me?” Kiki asked.
“What do you want me to make?” Bulma asked.
“A ki suppressor,” Kiki told her.
“A what suppressor?” Bulma asked, confused.
“A ki suppressor,” Kiki reiterated. She noted Bulma’s confused look and asked, “Do you not know what ki is?” Bulma shook her head. Kiki rolled her eyes but explained, “Everyone has some amount of ki. It’s the energy that lives in your body. If a person is strong enough,” she paused and held out her hand, forming a small yellow ball of ki, “It can be manifested into a physical thing.” She closed her fist around the ki ball, extinguishing it. “Take away a person’s ki, you take away their energy.” Kiki knew she was holding back that if a person’s ki is taken away they become almost a shell of who they once were, but she figured Bulma wouldn’t make the suppressor for her if she knew the whole truth.
“Why do you need something like that?” Bulma asked.
“It’s classified,” Kiki said, “Can you do it or not?”
“Yeah, but I’ll need someone to test it out on,” Bulma told her.
“I’ll send someone down to help you,” Kiki told her. She went to leave and looked back at Bulma, “No one is to know about this.”
Bulma nodded and watched the Saiyan princess leave. ‘What have I gotten myself into?’ she thought.
Meanwhile...Vegeta sat in bed with Lyri curled up next to him, sleeping. He couldn’t believe he had done that. Thankfully, he had the sense not to mark her. He glanced at her before carefully moving her hair from her neck. While he hadn’t permanently marked her, he left a decent sized bruise on her. He noticed her lower lip was swollen and figured she must have bitten it to keep from marking him, for which he was thankful. Though he was dreading it, he wished she would wake up so they could talk. For now though, he let her sleep.
It was a couple hours later when Lyri woke up. She sat up, holding the black cotton sheet to herself.
“Why cover yourself when I’ve seen all there is to see?” Vegeta asked as he walked in the room.
Lyri blushed. “I don’t know. Habit, I guess?”
“We need to talk,” Vegeta told her.
She wrapped the sheet around herself. “I already know what you’re going to say,” she said.
“Really? And what am I going to say?” Vegeta asked.
“That last night was a one time thing. That you don’t want a mate,” Lyri told him, “Which I get because you have things you want to do and having a mate would be a hindrance to those things.”
“You are correct. It won’t happen again,” Vegeta told her. He didn’t know what he felt for her, yes, there was a physical attraction and he cared for her safety but he didn’t know if he truly loved her or not. So he didn’t say anything else. Lyri quickly wiped her eyes with her hand. “Why are you crying?” Vegeta asked.
“I’m not!” she said. She cursed herself for getting emotional in front of him.
“Do not lie to me. I can see you,” Vegeta told her.
Lyri wiped her face again. “Figure it out yourself, you ass.” She got up and quickly made her way to the bathroom. She shut the door and locked it. She started the shower and stepped out of the sheet. She wiped her eyes again, though the tears returned. He had used her and made her feel like a common whore.
There was a knock on the door.
“Gods, Vegeta! I don't want to talk about it anymore!” Lyri yelled.
“You have a visitor,” Vegeta’s voice came through the door.
“If its Kakarot tell him I’ll find him later,” she responded.
“If it was that clown, I’d have sent him away already,” he told her, “It’s Bulma.”
Lyri sighed and turned off the shower. “Can you grab me some clothes?”
There was a knock a minute later. She opened a crack and grabbed the clothes he shoved at her. She quickly threw them on. Her sensitive hearing picked up Vegeta and Bulma’s voices as she walked out to join them.
“...it was actually easier than I thought. I used the same design that I used for mine except I kept the gravity simulator open and not fixated like on mine. Anyway, I just came by to give Lyri the first prototype,” Bulma was saying.
“You actually made it?” Lyri asked quickly walking up to them.
“I told you I would try,” Bulma told her, “Let me see your scouter and I’ll show you how to sync it up.” She took Lyri’s scouter and showed her how to sync it and increase the gravity. Lyri put the necklace on and set the gravity to a hundred times gravity. A blue field of light surrounded her body...and she immediately fell to the floor.
“Ow...” Lyri said. She struggled to turn the gravity back down, but she did. “It works...”
“What the hell did you set the gravity to?” Bulma asked.
“I don’t know,” Lyri said as she sat up, “A hundred, I think?”
“Idiot,” Vegeta muttered. He watched Lyri stand up and held out his hand. She pouted but handed him the necklace. Bulma helped him sync it to his scouter and he turned it on. The blue surrounded him briefly before disappearing. He hopped from one foot to the other, throwing a couple punches and finishing off with a roundhouse kick. He looked at his hands, curling and uncurling them a couple times. “Not bad,” he said, “How long can a person wear this with the gravity up?”
“Indefinitely, I suppose” Bulma said, thinking, “Though your body would just get used to the higher gravity.”
Vegeta nodded. “This will make training better,” he said.
“You can thank Lyri for suggesting it,” Bulma said.
“You made it,” Lyri said.
“But I wouldn’t have if it wasn’t for your idea,” Bulma told her, “And it was a good idea. Anyway, I have to get back to the lab. I just wanted to drop that off.” She headed towards the door but stopped. “Kakarot and I are going out to the celebrations in the capital tonight. Will we see you there?”
Lyri looked at Vegeta but instead of answering, he walked into the bedroom where Lyri could hear him talking to someone. “Someone must have called him,” Lyri said.
Vegeta returned and told them, “I have to meet with my father and sister about Frieza’s arrival. Lyri, you can go, if you wish, but stay out of trouble.”
Lyri turned to Bulma. “I’m sorry. I should go with him.”
“I understand. Maybe we can meet up later!” Bulma said. Lyri nodded and Bulma left.
“I didn’t ask you to tag along,” Vegeta told her.
“Would it not look odd if your intended wasn’t there?” Lyri asked.
Vegeta knew she had a point. “Fine,” he said. He turned to head to the bedroom and she followed him. He was a little surprised that she didn’t outright follow him into the closet and let him change into a new training suit and his royal armor. She was waiting on the bed when he stepped out. Lyri walked into the closet and emerged a couple minutes later wearing a dark gray one shoulder Grecian style dress. She glanced at Vegeta.
“I can change, if you wish,” she told him.
“You’re fine,” he told her. He offered her his arm and she took it. He led her down to the conference room adjacent to the King’s office. They walked in and Vegeta pulled her seat out for her and he sat next to her, on his father’s left side. Kiki sat on the King’s right and a man sat next to her. Lyri recognized him as the King’s advisor, Paragus.
“What is she doing here?” Kiki asked.
“She is my intended. She has a right to know what is going on,” Vegeta told her.
“I believe I told you to find someone else,” the King said.
“You told me to find someone by my coming of age and I did. You do not get to choose for me,” Vegeta snapped.
“He could,” Paragus said, “An arraigned mating isn’t unheard of.”
“I’d rather live out my days alone than take someone of my father’s choosing,” Vegeta muttered.
“Enough! We can come back to this matter later,” the King said with a raised voice.
Vegeta growled but said nothing. He glanced at Lyri, who had been quiet during the argument. She sat quietly next to him, her attention now turned to his father.
“As we all know, Frieza is expected to arrive tomorrow,” the King said.
“Why is he even coming?” Lyri asked.
Paragus reached over the table and backhanded Lyri, the sound of the slap echoing through the room. “Teach your whore to only speak when spoken to,” he told Vegeta. Vegeta flew across the table, grabbing Paragus by his armor. He was ready to kill the much older Saiyan when a hand touch his arm. He looked over at Lyri, who shook her head. He let Paragus go, straightened up, and grabbed Lyri.
“Where the hells do you think you’re going?” the King barked as Vegeta went to leave.
“Wherever the fuck I wish,” Vegeta told him as he took Lyri away. He took her back to his quarters and immediately looked to see if she was ok. Her cheek was red, but nothing too bad. He cupped her cheek, hating that he hadn’t seen that coming.
Lyri took his hand from her face. “It was my own fault. I shouldn’t have spoken out of turn.”
“Don’t be stupid. It was a valid question,” he told her.
She shrugged. “Apparently not.” She noticed that she still had his hand and let it go. “Anyway...” she said with a sigh, “Now what?”
Vegeta turned from her. “You can do as you wish...” he said, “Didn’t you say you were going to meet up with the scientist?”
Lyri nodded to herself. She had said that she’d meet up with Bulma and Kakarot, but...she left the room and walked down to the barracks. As she got closer, she saw Nix talking to a tall bald Saiyan.
“Nix,” Lyri said as she got closer, “Nappa.”
“What do you want?” Nappa asked.
Lyri looked him up and down. “Not you, thats for sure...” she muttered. She turned to Nix. “Kakarot in there?”
“Yeah,” Nix said.
“Can you go get him?” Lyri asked.
“I can...” Nix said though he made no attempt to go get Kakarot.
“Can you please get him?” Lyri asked.
“Why should I go get him? What do I get out of it?” Nix asked.
Lyri thought for a minute before smirking. “You get to keep your limbs...”
“You could try,” Nix told her, “But I don’t think it would end well for you.”
“She wouldn’t be much of a fight anyway...” Nappa said.
“What was that, Nappa?” Lyri asked.
“I said, you wouldn’t be much of an-ACK!” Nappa doubled over and clutched his gut.
Lyri glared at him. “Anyway...” she said, flexing her hand, “Can you please just go get Kakarot? I don’t really feel like walking through the barracks and seeing the occasional dick.”
“You see enough of that living with Vegeta, I’ll bet,” Nix said before turning to leave. Lyri rolled her eyes at the obvious dick joke. Nix reappeared moments later with Kakarot.
“Hey Lyri,” Kakarot said.
“Hey,” Lyri said, “You got any of that liquor that Bardock likes? You know the one that he brings back all the time?”
Kakarot’s hands went behind his head as he thought. “Hmm...yeah, I think so. Why?”
“Can I have it? Buy it off of you, I mean?” she asked.
“Why?” Kakarot asked.
“Because I want it,” Lyri told him.
“Ok,” Kakarot said with a shrug. He left Nix and Lyri while he went to find it.
Nix looked at Lyri, clearly judging her.
“Don’t judge me,” Lyri snapped.
“I’m judging you...very much,” Nix told her.
Lyri rolled her eyes. “Like you’ve never drank before nightfall.”
Kakarot returned and handed Lyri a bottle with a metallic blue liquid inside it. “There ya go!”
“Thanks,” Lyri said as she turned to leave.
“It’s bad luck to drink alone,” Kakarot called after her.
“Who said I was drinking alone?” she yelled back.
“Come on!” Kakarot said as he started following her.
Nix rolled his eyes. “Your stupid antics better not get me in trouble.”
Kakarot smiled his trademark goofy grin. “No promises.”
The pair of male Saiyans followed Lyri as she made her way through the palace and to the kitchen. She disappeared into the kitchen and came out with glasses and a couple more bottles of alcohol.
“If you two are going to follow me, then you two can help,” she said handing Kakarot two wine bottles and handing Nix the glasses.
“What are you doing?” Kakarot asked.
“Vegeta and I had a meeting today and it didn’t go well...like at all...” Lyri said as she started leading them to Vegeta’s quarters.
“But what does that have to do with all the booze?” Kakarot asked.
“Gods, Kakarot. How have you survived being this stupid?” Nix asked.
Kakarot shrugged. “Luck, I guess. But seriously! What’s with all the booze?”
“We’re drinking the bad day away!” Lyri told him.
“But it’s barely afternoon!” Kakarot said.
“So?” Lyri asked.
“Shut up, Kakarot. We’re drinking and so will you,” Nix said.
Kakarot stopped and left them, walking off in a different direction.
“Hey! He stole the booze!” Lyri said.
Kakarot returned moments later with Bulma. “I went and got Bulma!” he said, obviously proud of himself.
“Dear gods, Vegeta is going to kill me,” Lyri said. She motioned for them to follow her and led them the rest of the way to Vegeta’s quarters. She opened the door and Vegeta glanced at her from the couch.
“Why do I sense two idiots and the scientist woman with you?” he asked.
“Hey, Vegeta!” Kakarot said, walking in and setting the wines and blue liquor on the desk.
Nix followed Kakarot, setting the glasses down and yanking the younger Saiyan away from the desk. “Sit down and shut up,” he said pointing to the floor.
Kakarot sat down, pouting. Bulma sat next to him, patting his leg and telling him that he was fine. Vegeta glared at Lyri. She walked over to the liquor, poured herself some of the blue liquid. “White or red?” she asked, “Or we have this...” She held up the blue liquor.
“That,” Vegeta said, his voice a low growl.
Lyri poured him the drink and handed it to him. He took it from her and downed it like a shot. She poured everyone else their drinks before excusing herself to change out of her dress, Vegeta following her.
“What the hells are they all doing here?” Vegeta asked.
Lyri told him, “Kakarot and Nix kinda invited themselves along and Kakarot invited Bulma.”
“Since this was your idea, you can send them away,” Vegeta said.
“No, they invited themselves along,” Lyri said as she stepped inside the closet to change, “If you don’t want them here, you send them away.”
Vegeta held back on out right yelling at her. He inhaled deeply and told her, “Fine. They can stay.”
She re-emerged from the closet wearing a training suit and told him, “If you really want me to send them away, I will.”
Vegeta wanted nothing more than to just be alone, but instead said, “No, these are your quarters too, for the moment. If you want to have guests, I suppose you can. I’ll just stay in here or go train or something.”
“Uh...no...” Lyri told him. He raised an eyebrow at her. “You’re drinking with us whether you like it or not.”
“Really? And if I refuse?” Vegeta asked.
“You can’t. I’m not going to let you,” Lyri answered.
“What’s taking so long?!” Kakarot called to them.
“Shut up, Kakarot! They’re probably fucking. Are you guys fucking? If so, y’all are really bad at it because I don’t hear shit!” Nix yelled.
“Oh my gods, Nix...” came a whisper from Bulma.
Lyri rolled her eyes. “Come on,” she said and walked out.
“They live!” Nix said as they walked out. Vegeta kicked him over before sitting down on the couch. Lyri went to pour herself another drink and noticed that one of the wines was almost gone.
“Really?” she asked holding it up.
“Nix drank it,” Bulma said.
“I can tell...” Lyri said, “Hey, Nix, since you drank most of the booze, go get more.”
“You remember what happened last time I left when I was drunk?” Nix asked.
“I barely know you, dumbass,” Lyri told him.
“I wasn’t talking to you,” he said, “I was talking to him.” He dramatically pointed to Vegeta.
Vegeta rolled his eyes. “You wandered out of the capital and terrorized a small village because they wouldn’t feed you.”
“They should have fed me! I am all powerful!” Nix semi-yelled.
“No more drinks for you...” Lyri told him.
“Feel my wrath!” Nix yelled as he yanked her foot out from under her causing her to fall to the floor. Lyri kicked him in the face before standing and moving to sit on the floor near Vegeta.
“Is he always like this when he’s drunk?” Bulma asked.
“More or less,” Kakarot said.
“So, now what?” Bulma asked.
“What what?” Lyri asked.
“Well, what do you normally do here on Planet Vegeta when you drink?” Bulma asked.
“See who can get drunk the fastest,” Kakarot said.
“Really?” Bulma asked.
“I win!” Nix yelled.
“We have a fast metabolisms so some people make it a challenge to see who can get drunk first,” Lyri explained, "Hence why the dumbass drank most the wine."
“Only idiots do that,” Vegeta said.
“Only cranky assholes say that,” Nix replied.
“Shut up, Nix,” Lyri said.
“Well, why don’t we play a game? We can play one from my planet,” Bulma said.
“What kind of game?” Kakarot asked.
“It’s called Truth or Dare. You asked someone to pick truth or dare and if they pick truth you ask them a personal question and they have to answer truthfully. If they pick dare, they have to do whatever you tell them,” Bulma explained.
“That sounds stupid,” Vegeta said.
“Well then, what do you want to do?” Bulma asked.
Vegeta eyed Nix.
“You sure you want to do that?” Nix asked, knowing exactly what Vegeta was thinking.
Vegeta stood and left. Nix rolled his eyes but followed. “Yes!” Kakarot said before following them.
Lyri sighed, downed the rest of her drink and stood. “Idiots...” she muttered.
“They went to go fight, huh?” Bulma asked.
“Yup. Wanna go watch?” Lyri asked.
Bulma shrugged and followed Lyri.
“Looking forward to the banquet tomorrow?” Bulma asked as they made their way down to the training grounds.
Lyri shrugged. “Won’t be a part of the security, so it feels a little odd.”
“Do you have a dress picked out?” Bulma asked.
“It’s being dropped off in the morning,” Lyri said.
Bulma started to ask another question but the sound of rushing wind filled the corridor followed shortly by Kakarot’s shout of excitement. The two women looked at each other and ran towards the training ground, unprepared for what awaited them.
