Dragonball: Unforgotten
Chapter One Hundred and Eleven
The sky was different than that of Earth. So much so that it took you a few minutes to get used to breathing once again. Broly was the same although even when his lungs finally accepted the oxygen of the atmosphere, there was still a pained look on his face. You couldn't be sure that it was emotional pain or physical pain since at the moment those lines were very blurry.
"What planet is this?" Broly asked.
"Yardrats," you answered honestly as you looked around just out of habit.
The place really was just how you remembered it. You had spent a lot of time in this particular field as you learned how to handle your energy. Eventually those lessons turned into being able to sense other people's energy as well as using the instant transmission. Apparently there was something about this field that made training those techniques easier. Some sort of nexus point or something. It had some spiritual meaning to your adopted parents as well as the rest of the population that had been lost on you.
You massaged your scalp. Even though Broly had let you go and practically pushed you away from him once you'd gotten to the planet, it still stung. No doubt, you had lost more than a couple strands of hair.
"Why are we here?"
"I needed to get you away from everyone. Especially Goku."
"Kakarot."
"I call him Goku," you said in an even tone.
"He is a saiyan. His name is Kakarot."
"He wasn't raised as a saiyan. He was raised as Goku of Earth," you argued back with no real heat in your tone as you lowered your hands from your head. "Besides, I don't see you trying to come up with a saiyan name for me so why does his matter so much?"
"Yours is a saiyan name."
You looked at him and blinked a couple of times. Was it? You had assumed that your adopted parents had given you the name when they decided to be your parents. Though given the facts that they hadn't been to Earth by that point and your name didn't sound like the Yardratian names you'd heard so far, you supposed they could have found out your birth name from your defective pod. It made more sense than Bella being randomly picked by them at least.
"...How do you even know other saiyan names?" you asked Broly, side tracked by the topic.
"My father wrote a list of all the female and male names he remembered."
"Why?" It seemed like a strange thing to do as a hobby.
"He wrote down a lot of things he knew. So that there was some way to preserve our race's heritage."
That made sense. Unlike Vegeta, who you'd understood lived under the thumb of Frieza for years, Paragus had been able to express his own identity. On top of that, Paragus would have been older than Vegeta and would have experienced life as a Saiyan far more than said prince of all saiyans. By extension it did make sense that Broly would have been able to learn a great deal about the saiyan way of life and all that went into that. He might even know more than Vegeta even though he'd only been a baby when the planet was destroyed. Funny...you'd never considered just asking Broly all the questions you had. Though from how Broly had depicted his father up to this point maybe that lapse in judgment was understandable. From everything you knew it seemed like Paragus had been more about that hard knocks life style; including controlling Broly and forcing him to be a slave.
"Anyways," you spoke out as you mentally shook yourself. It was easy to get distracted. "I'm not taking you back to Earth."
This time it was his turn to ask, "Why?"
"Seriously Broly? You just got mad at me for taking you to the ice...you were strangling me...and you picked a fight with the guys even though they just came to help me. Except Vegeta, not sure why he was there...but that's besides the point. The point is that it's too dangerous with the other guys there."
"They can leave."
You deadpan stared at him. By now you knew that he was serious. He had no reason to joke about that subject. Knowing that didn't help in the least though. How were you supposed to respond to something like that?
"That's not going to happen. It's their home. I'm guessing you weren't that attached to it."
Broly said nothing but his stare was intense, probing. There was still some anger in it but now that he was away from the hostile, threatening environment he seemed to be doing okay. Which was another reason you'd taken him away from Earth. There was just too much there, mostly the guys, which could spark him into violence even if he could control his temper better than before. You had made the wish so that he could control his anger but somehow, for some reason, he hadn't. The result of him deciding to let go of the reigns a little bit had been disastrous. It would probably be a generation before the frozen landscape was okay again. Far more until all of those old trees were replaced.
"I mean you didn't seem to like the city. You didn't like being about other people all that much...You seem to hate to wear the clothes...I figured getting you away from all of that might make you happier."
Broly nodded, accepting your answer. You shifted from one foot to the other, trying to come up with a way to broach the topic. You had told Goku and Gohan that you'd be back in an hour. It was amazing how much time could pass for a simple conversation. Especially since you kept pausing as you waited for something bad to happen. Not that it had been too long mind you, but you also didn't trust Gohan and Goku to wait the whole time. It was a miracle that they hadn't followed you to Yardrats already. Goku would have an easier time with that but with how determined they both were to keep you safe, you wouldn't put it past Gohan to be able to keep up. He really was a genius when he was committed - you didn't call him wonderboy for nothing.
"So we will live here."
"We?"
Well shit, that topic was coming up faster than you expected. Broly's confirming nod as he started to look around only made your stomach drop further. He really did expect you to live with him. When had you ever given him the indication that, that would happen? You let out a shaky breath. Just because you were about 80% sure he was calming down didn't mean that all your nerves were gone. Nor did it mean that you didn't still feel his hands around your throat.
"...you just choked me, Broly," you said with a motion to your throat. "I get that you were triggered or something by the ice. I'm sorry, I thought you'd have fun, I didn't think about it being...you know...ice. But you still attacked me Broly. I'm okay this time but what about the next time?"
The idea that if he had hit you like he had the boys passed through your mind. Your hands pressed themselves into your abdomen as your skin crawled. The probing, intense look in Broly's eyes didn't help. Especially as he titled his head slightly.
"You're worried about the baby. That I'll hurt it."
"I'd be lying if I said no," you replied with a guilty look.
He went quiet. Not that he had been loud since you'd gotten to Yardrats. There was just something about the way he moved back every so slightly, a stillness to the large man that made you feel guilty. It was strange how that worked but it wasn't like you could take back what was said.
"I'm sorry," you told him quietly with a sympathetic look. "But do you want me to lie? I have to worry about me, yeah, but I have to worry about the daughter that I'm incubating too. I have to worry about everyone. Goku, myself, the baby, Gohan...you...everyone. So until you can get along with everyone the best I can do is move you somewhere you can be safe and calm. I don't think that'll be here but...this was the best I could do for now."
"Stay."
"What?" you asked as you searched his face. His eyes seemed sad. Despite your fear of the situation you could still recognize that in him. And it was heartbreaking.
"Stay with me."
"Broly…"
"I won't hurt you."
"You already did. I mean seriously Broly, the whole reason I'm even pregnant right now is because I was afraid---" you stopped yourself as you bit your lip, your insides quivering as you took a step back. You had not meant to even talk about that.
"Afraid of not being pregnant?" he asked in a sad confusion. As he looked at your face he amended his prediction. "You were afraid of me. So you got pregnant?"
You nodded. "I was afraid that you'd hurt me...hurt Gohan...but mostly me if I wasn't pregnant."
"...but now you're worried that I'll hurt the baby. So why be pregnant?"
"...I didn't want to go into heat," you said quietly as you lowered your gaze. "It was be pregnant or go into heat...pregnancy seemed less scary."
He made a sound that he heard you. It wasn't a happy sound but at least it wasn't an angry sound. Maybe that was what really caused you to feel bad. He was confused and hurt probably about the same amount as you were.
"I didn't trust you, Broly. And you don't make it easy to trust you. Not with the way you attacked me. Not with the way you attacked the guys. You were going to kill Goku! Do you understand how much that hurts? How afraid that kind of thing makes me? If you can just willingly loose control of your anger that much over something I didn't even mean to do...what is it going to be like in the future if I really make you mad? I can't...I can't let you be on Earth. Not for a while. Not until I'm sure you're going to be a better person than you just were," you continued to speak, the words seemingly falling out of your mouth like vomit as you backed up.
Slowly you rose your gaze and with a sad smile. "I told the guys I'd be back in an hour. It hasn't been that long but I don't want to push it. Just...please...don't hurt anyone here. Please. My mom and dad live here now and I...I don't want them hurt. Please."
"I won't touch them."
You nodded as you let out another shaky breath. "Okay. That's a start okay? I'll go check on the boys and then I'll be back with that house. Then I'll check with my parents to see if they know of any place where you might be happy on your own. At least for a while. Just...stay here and I can find you again."
Before he had time to do anything else you found both Gohan and Goku's energy on Earth and instant transmitted to them.
