(…) Author’s thoughts
“Where the hell have you been?! Don’t you know your mother and I have been worried to death about you?! Who the hell said you could leave like that, huh?! I had the whole manor looking for you! And you even had Lord Koga and Master Ookami go through the trouble of helping us find you! You owe them and your father something big!” A couple guards were holding back an enraged Lord Hokoru as he berated his son from a distance.
“Now, now Hokoru. The boy had a perfectly good reason for leaving. Even though he could’ve told someone where he was going, at least he didn’t come back empty handed.” Lord Koga couldn’t help but give Vegeta a glare of his own before turning his attention back to a pissed off noble.
Vegeta couldn’t help but feel guilty for moment as his Master continued to calm his father. He glanced to his side where his fiancé stood. He was getting a real kick out of this. That damn smirk hasn’t left his face since they came downstairs as Lord Hokoru almost jumped his son and throttled him for what he did. His mother was ordered to stay home, since his father wanted to yell at him first. “I don’t care if he came back with the head of a dragon! He has no idea what we had to go through! What I thought we were about to go through!” He continued yelling at him. “Are you trying to kill yourself before the ceremony?! Or do you just enjoy pissing me off?!”
Vegeta couldn’t hold back anymore. He snapped. “Oh, so I’m a tool after all! What about me?! Do you even care about my pride?! Do you even care about what I think?! I’m your son! Not some slave to be auctioned off to the highest bidder! You know, I didn’t have to come back at all! I could’ve stayed away and have you wallow in your agony that much longer! Or I could just let the nameless samurai wander around until he eventually killed us off or until I found out where he was!” He paused to catch his breath. “I don’t have to take this! Not from you!” And with that he left everyone’s presence and proceeded to leave the manor.
“Don’t even make this about you! This is for the good of the clan and you know it! Don’t turn your back on me! Vegeta!” Lord Hokoru huffed. “Guards! Stop him!”
“Hokoru. Let him go. I’ll have my guards escort him home. You two could use some time apart until you’ve both calmed down. Just be thankful that he’s alright. You know that he’s more than capable of taking care of himself. After all, he’ll be protecting Ookami after they’ve wedded.” Lord Koga calmed his friend in a soothing voice until his fury had lessened.
Lord Hokoru took a few deep breaths and calmed himself. “You’re right. I overreacted.” After a moment, Lord Koga nodded to his guards to let Lord Hokoru go and they released him. He rubbed his arms where they were holding him back and crossed them. “My apologies for reacting in such a way in front of you.” He bowed slightly.
Lord Koga smiled with understanding. “Not to worry. I probably would’ve reacted the same way if it were Ookami in Vegeta’s place, but I would also feel relief in knowing that he was alright.” He studied him for a moment as Lord Hokoru’s stern gaze turned into one of stubbornness as he looked away from the other Lord.

Later that evening, an awkward silence filled the air during the Hokoru’s evening meal. Vegeta refused to touch his food as his father glared at him the whole time. After a while, Lord Hokoru had enough of his stubborn behavior. “Eat.” He barked out his command as Vegeta sat calmly in his spot.
“I’m not hungry.” In truth, Vegeta was famished, but he wanted to save his appetite for when he brings a meal to his samurai, whom he told to stay put until he returned. However, his father thought he was holding a grudge against him from earlier that day. He never said he was glad his son was okay and he never said he was proud of him for being allowed to see Lord Akuto tomorrow. Instead, he waited impatiently for his son to do what he told him to.
“I said-!” Lord Hokoru almost lost it again before his wife rested a hand on his arm, calming him before he made a fool of himself again. “Eat.” He said more sternly as he glowered at his son.
Vegeta stared a moment longer at his untouched food until he stood. “I’m going to bed.”
Lord Hokoru stood as well. “Vegeta! You can’t keep walking away from something you don’t like! You have to face it sooner or later!” All he got was silence in return. He growled. “Vegeta!” His wife stood up as well, to try and calm him down, but he ignored her and chased after him.
When Vegeta was halfway down the hall, he was stopped by a hand that grabbed his arm and was spun around, then was grabbed by the collar of his shirt. “You stupid child! When are you going to face reality and realize that things won’t always go the way you want them to! Sometimes you have to make sacrifices in order to get what you want!” He yelled right in his son’s face.
“Sometimes?” Vegeta whispered and wanted to shake his head at how blinded his father was. He grabbed his arm and pried it off of him. “I’ve been making sacrifices my whole life! When the hell am I supposed to get my happiness?! When can I stop following orders and finally do what I want?! Where’s my free will?! It seems all that life has to offer me is a prison! A cage where I’m supposed to obey my Masters and behave like a good pet! Well, hear this! Masters tend to get bitten when the pet is poorly treated and wants no Master to obey to!” And with that, he turned his back on his father and locked himself in his room.
Lord Hokoru stared down the hall in surprise. Did his son just admit that he didn’t want a father? He wanted a different way of life than the perfect one he had now? He clenched his fists in his fury as he glared at his son’s door and stormed back down the hall.
Vegeta leaned against his door as he debated about what he should do. He then eyed his inconspicuous attire in the corner and suddenly, there was no more debating. He quickly donned the attire and left through his window.

“I don’t know! Just wrap it up in something or put it in a crate! I don’t have all night!” Vegeta yelled at the poor employees in the tiny restaurant as they quickly prepared the huge meal he ordered.
“Yes, sir! Sorry, sir!” A young girl and an old man ran around in the tiny kitchen as they quickly tried to prepare the meal and find something to put the food in.
Vegeta sighed and sat down in the closest seat as he watched them. He’s been yelling at them ever since he got there. They can’t move any quicker than that. After thirty minutes of more yelling, threats, and panicked replies, the meal was finally finished and boxed up. The noble studied the end result and smiled. “Well, I guess it didn’t take you too long and I suppose you deserve a tip.” He paid them handsomely. More so than the actual cost. The old man and girl actually had tears in their eyes at the generous amount.
“Th-Thank you, sir!” They bowed in their thanks as Vegeta left the small hovel.

Kakarot stared at the fire he made a few hours ago as he laid down next to it and sighed for what must’ve been the millionth time. He can’t stay cooped up like this, he’ll go insane. Maybe he can go out at night. He looked out the window at the pitch blackness that enveloped the night sky. It’s been cloudy all day, but at least the rain has let up for now. He tapped his foot on the ground as he contemplated about going out, but Vegeta said he’d be back. But what if he doesn’t? What if he can’t? What if he got locked up somewhere so he couldn’t leave again? His silent questions seemed to be answered when there was a knock on the door. He got up and answered it only to be greeted by the presence of his noble.
He smiled. “Vegeta! You made it!” His smiled faded when he saw what Vegeta was carrying. “What’s that?”
Vegeta growled. “Food! Now are you going to let me in or not? It’s not exactly light!” He lifted up his knee underneath the crate to catch it as it tried to slip out of his hands.
“Oh! Of course! Here I’ll take it.” Kakarot bent over and cradled the crate in one arm as he ushered Vegeta inside.
Vegeta moved his arms around from having to carry the heavy load all the way from town. He went over to sit by the fire and Kakarot came to sit next to him and set the crate between them. The samurai peeked into it and saw that it was filled with little wooden boxes. The lovely aroma of food hit him in the face and he realized that these little boxes were full of food. “Well? Are you just going to look at it or are you going to eat it?” Vegeta watched him from the corner of his eye and couldn’t help but show his impatience. After all, he was hungry too.
Kakarot looked up and smiled. “You…brought me food?”
Vegeta huffed and crossed his arms, trying to hide a blush. “Yes. I…figured that you haven’t eaten today…and I know you don’t have much money. So…I brought us some food.” He tried not to look at the samurai, but peeked at him from the corner of his eye, waiting for a heartwarming reaction.
Kakarot looked like he was about to tackle the noble in his excitement. “Aw, Vegeta. You didn’t have to make me all this food.” He teased as he picked the first thing off the top and dug around for some chopsticks, then started to pig out.
Vegeta growled playfully. “Yes, well, I just had to show off my master skill of the art of cooking because you know how I like to show off.” He grabbed a little box of something off the top and looked at the contents. He frowned at the taro buns and set it off to the side, then looked for something else.
Kakarot chuckled. “Oh, I know.” He answered with his mouth half full and shoved more food in.
Vegeta sneered at the lack of manners, but tried to ignore him as he tried to fulfill his stomach’s demands. On the third box, he finally found something suitable to eat and began to eat as much gusto as Kakarot, but with manners. As soon as the whole crate was empty, both men relaxed next to the fire as the food settled in their full stomach’s. Kakarot munched on a taro bun as he stared past the fire and at his lover. Vegeta was doing the same as he smiled at the stare. Why couldn’t he be marrying Kakarot? He can’t remember the last time he smiled like this. Hell, he hasn’t even felt like this towards anyone before. He’s been behaving in ways where he never thought he would behave in a million years. This man, staring at him in that loving gaze, made him…happy. He knew right then, that he could be with this man forever.
Vegeta leaned his head against his hand as his arm rested on the floor. “Oh, by the way, I’m going to see Lord Akuto tomorrow. Hopefully I can convince him to get the price off your head and leave you alone.”
Kakarot woke from his trance that his eyes were succumbed to while memorizing every curve on the lithe noble’s body. “Oh? You are?” Vegeta smiled confidently and nodded. His expression became disappointed as he stared at what was left of his dessert. “I see.”
Vegeta sat up at the expression. “What’s wrong?”
Kakarot kept his attention on his food as he spoke. “Nothing, just…be careful.”
A moment of silence passed. “Kakarot…I know you’re hiding something from me. Please…tell me.”
The samurai set his food aside, no longer interested in eating it as he laid back and faced the ceiling. “There’s no need. Who knows? Maybe you’ll find out tomorrow.” He put his hand underneath his head and watched the fire light play with the shadows on the ceiling.
Vegeta’s gaze became determined when he thought of something. “You know what I heard?” When he didn’t get a response, he came over by his samurai’s side and sat next to him. “I heard that you have been wanted in ten areas. Care to tell me why? Could it be an easier way for your enemies to find you?”
Kakarot contemplated his answer for a moment before responding. “Well, yeah…pretty much.” Vegeta frowned as he realized Kakarot’s eyes were holding something back.
He sighed, however, as he laid down next to Kakarot and placed a hand on his chest and rested his head on his shoulder. Kakarot smiled at the contact and wrapped an arm around his noble to bring him closer. Vegeta smiled in return and kissed him gently. Kakarot moved his arm to bury his hand in that auburn hair to deepen the kiss. Vegeta moaned at the contact and Kakarot took advantage of the noise and hesitantly plunged his tongue into the cavern of heat. He expected the taste of sake, like last time, but actually got a pleasant taste of chicken and sauce that mixed in with the noble’s delicious flavor. His stomach felt like it wanted to growl again at the newfound taste, but it lacked the room for the noise. Vegeta moved more on top of him and tried to get rid of an annoying garment that laid in the way of that smooth, delicious skin. That sweet tongue in his mouth sought for attention and he sucked on the warm appendage, eliciting a moan from the origin of the tongue.
Hands buried themselves in garments as they sought to be rid of the only thing blocking a warm body. They both sat up in their passion, their kiss never breaking, as they managed to escape each other’s shirts that now lay in a pile on the floor next to them. Even though the other’s mouth was delicious, Vegeta wanted to taste more as he broke the kiss and proceeded to work his way down the samurai’s neck. Kakarot moaned at the loss of contact, but decided to do the same. He slowly made his way to the base of Vegeta’s neck and suddenly stopped all movement once he saw a red mark adorning the young noble’s flesh. Vegeta didn’t notice the lack of movement as he was preoccupied with the other’s neck until fingers curiously touched the mark.
He tensed at the touch when he remembered what was there. He pulled back slowly and looked at the samurai’s expression. Confusion, anger, and sorrow occupied his handsome face as Vegeta cringed at the look. “Vegeta? How did you…get this?” Kakarot’s breathing sped up as panic and betrayal set in.
Vegeta looked down in shame as he grasped Kakarot’s hand in his own. “Kakarot…there’s…something I-I have to tell you.” His voice shook with uncertainty and fear. The look on Kakarot became surprised, but was at a loss for words. “I’m…I’m…getting married.”
(Uh oh, a cliff hanger? Is there? Is there? Scroll down and find out O.o).
