Chapter 13! I’m on a roll! I’m on a roll!! This story should be done in one or two more chapters! Yeah!! Then I’ll finish up movi (on (one more chapter to that one and then … I’ll finish up a couple of thhershers I’ve got started. Because I have a new one I want to write but I have to finish up a lot of these old ones first!! And Yes! I will finish all of my stories!! It may take me a bit but there will be no excuses from me.

Chapter 13

 
 
Hilde blinked, moaned and then opened her eyes only to looked into a pair of violet ones staring back at her.
“Hilde.” He breathed.
“Hi.” She whispered back. Then she cringed waiting for the next words to come out of his mouth.
“Sally. She’s awake.” He said, turning away from her for a moment then back to her. She felt him grasp her hand and lean over to kiss her lips softly.
She never heard the yelling she expected. He released her hand and stepped aside to let Sally in to see her.
“You’ll be fine, but sore. It went straight through. “ She looked at her, “But you can’t use it for 6 weeks.”
“6 weeks?”
“The bone wasn’t broken but it’s pretty bruised The muscles have to repair themselves too. So no undue stress on it.” Sally turned to Duo. “You can take her back to her room.”
“Room? Not the barracks?”
“No, Une ok’d the room.”
Hilde started to sit up then realized her shirt had been cut off and she was naked from the waist up.
“Oh!” She exclaimed as she grabbed the sheet with her good hand.
Sally turned. “Duo, the shirt.”
Duo blinked and handed it to Hilde.
She looked at it with large eyes. “How..”
“Duo, help her.”
“Sally?” He questioned.
She turned and looked at them. “Please don’t tell me you’re not lovers.”
“Well….. Um….”
“I thought so. Help her. And no funny stuff.”
“Yes ma’am.” He replied and turned back to his girl friend. He winked at her and quickly helped her maneuver the shirt on. He quickly buttoned up the front never taking his eyes from her face. Once the shirt was on he leaned over and kissed her quickly.
“Save it for your room. And Duo be gentle.”
Duo’s mouth dropped open and Hilde giggled at the shocked look on his face. He helped her from the table and started her toward the door.
“Sally, how’s Megan?”
“She’s in a coma.”
“Did she say anything?”
“Not a word.”
“Will she be ok?”
Sally shrugged. “I honestly don’t know if she will or not. She’s lost a lot of blood. I guess we’ll know in the morning.”
Hilde nodded and thanked Sally as Duo pulled her out the door.
“Right now you know Une is on her way to Megan’s father’s office to arrest him. She’ll know about the disk and I’ll bet she’ll try to find it.”
“Well, you know Megan’s dad won’t give up easily. He’ll probably start a smear campaign against Une…… Hilde…..are you thinking what I’m thinking?”
“Yes!” she hissed as they moved down the hallway. “He’s gonna frame Une and then kill her.”
“Yeah, but how?”
“Embezzlement. Bad management of the organization.”
“Oh wow, then he could take over the Preventers and disband them. Kill Une ,dirty her name and disband the Preventers all in one throw!”
“Ingenious , fucking ingenious!”
“Yeah, come on, babe. We need to find that disk and get it into the open before he does his dirty work. Do you suppose Megan got word to her dad before she tried to kill you?”
Hilde shrugged, then cried out. “Ow! Remind self not to shrug shoulders.”
Duo laughed, then clutched his side. “Same here babe. Man, aren’t we the pair?”
“So. Duo, what’s the plan? How are we going to get into the office and find that disk?”
He shrugged, “I don’t know, haven’t worked that out yet.”
As Hilde and Duo walked down the hall, Une spotted them and hurried to catch up.
“Hilde! That was good thinking to use a wire. Unfortunately some of it had gotten garbled in the translation. We got the part about the plot and her father’s plan to destroy the Preventers but something must have happened to jar the microphone. Did she say much more after that?”
Hilde frowned, wondering if she should tell Une about the Disk or just go find it. If Megan’s father had any inclination the Preventers were after him, then he would destroy it and they needed it to prevent the next phase of this insidious plot. She made the decision and prayed Une would for give her.
“No, not really.”
Une nodded, “Ok, if you do rber ber anything let me know. We really don’t have enough evidence to go after him . His denial of her words would be well respected. We can’t just burst in on him.” Une waved and turned back down the hallway away from them.
Hilde’s eyes narrowed as she watched the woman walk away. “Hmm… I wonder….”
“Hilde, what are you thinking?” Duo hissed at her.
She turned to Duo and hissed back, “ We have to get that disk before Megan gains consciousness and tells him. Une just told us that she can’t do anything yet. We can sneak in after closing and search his office.”
“How are we going to do that with out being caught?”
“We go now and find a place to hide until they close the doors then we snoop.”
“Ok, I see one flaw with this plan.”
“What’s that?”
“Once we get in, how do we get out? And what about security cameras? How do we get past them?”
“There has to be away, Duo. Let’s go and find out!”
Twenty five minutes later , they were standing in front of an office building that looked much like the Preventers headquarters. Hilde pulled Duo up to the front doors , and peered in. She frowned.
“Duo, there’s no receptionist’s desk. Matter of fact the lobby’s pretty bare.”
Duo looked in over her head. ”Come on, let’s go have a look.”
They pushed into the doors and stopped. Duo looked up at the ceiling, “No cameras that I can see.”
“Check the walls. There has to be something.”
They checked the walls for bugs or cameras finding nothing.
“Well, what do you think, Should we take a chance?”
“Yeah! Let’s do it!”
“You know this could be a trap. It seems too easy. ”
“Or they are so confident that they don’t care.”
“Either way, keep your guard up.”
“Yeah.”
They slipped into lobby and cautiously looked around.
“Do you have your gun, Duo?” She asked as she looked down at her holster. “It seems mine si gone.”
Duo turned to looked at her and nodded, then handed her something small. She grasped it in her hand and looked at him in surprise.
I couldn’t get yours , but I could get this one.”
Hilde looked at the small snub nosed revolver in her hand. She smiled as she slipped it inot her sling. “Thanks Duo! Hopefully we won’t need them.”
“Yeah, but ……”
They walked through the empty lobby to a large sign on the wall. It had every office listed. Hilde scanned the names until she found what she was looking for.
“6th floor , room 687.”
She turned as Duo started toward the elevator. She grasped his arm, “Do you think we should take the stairs , instead?”
He nodded. “That may be better. Maybe there’s a storage closet some where near too. “
“Yeah.”
They slipped into the stair well and began the trek upto the 6th floor. As the y made each floor, the opened the door and looked into the hall way. On the 5th floor they found a storage closet that wasn’t locked. They slipped in and looked around. The room was empty. In corner was a small sink, but that was all. There was a pull chain light above their heads. She nodded as the y got comfortable and waited for the time for everyone to leave.

Heero sat at the computer till his vision blurred and his stomach growled. He closed his eyes and leaned back. He clenched his fists at his own frustration. This program was encoded with a program that rivaled his own hacker proof program. He had done everything he could to break into the second part of his but there was no way he could. He was about to growl when someone came up beside him. He snapped open his eyes at the smell of food and coffee. He looked into the chest of a woman standing to the side of him. He blinked, then , let his eyes trail up past the tray to her face.
“Relena.”
She nodded and pushed the tray in front of him. “I thought you would like some thing to eat. You’ve been here a long time.”
He tookthe tray and looked at the food she had prepared for him. “Thanks.” He mumbled.
“How is it coming?”
He shook his head as he started to eat one of the roast beef sandwich in front of him. He looked upat her and swallowed. “Did you make this? “
She nodded, suddenly unsure of herself. “Is it all right?”
“It’s delicious!”
She sighed in relief as he devoured the other one she had bought. He took the coffee off the tray , putting it on the desk. He handed her back the tray.
“Thanks, Re.”

She nodded and started to turn away.
“Don’t go.” He said softly.
She turned back and looked at him. “Are you sure? I won’t be in your way?”
“No, I …… Stay. Unless….”
“She put down the tray and pulled a chair over. “OK, and no I’m not busy. I can’t do much until it’s for certain who ever these people are aren’t threatening me.” She sighed. “Une’s orders.”
Heero chuckled, leave to Une to cover all the bases.

Sally stuck her head into Une’s office. “Are you using those kids again?”
Une looked up and almost made a remark about questioning her judgement, but said , instead. “I put the bug in their ears.”
“You didn’t tell them you heard the whole conversation between Hilde and Megan. “
“No.”
“I don’t agree with this at all. But you are the boss and you can use people anyway you want.”
“I didn’t twist their arms. If you recall Hilde came to me first.”
Sally nodded. “I know but still.”
Une sighed. “I know, I don’t like it either. Believe me , I will make sure both she and Duo will be compensated generously. And don’t give me that look. You know those two kids are extremely capable of doing this job. Look at the havoc Hilde left in her wake at the wearhouse. “
Sally nodded chuckling slightly. “Ok, I’ll give you that, she can be a one woman wrecking team, but I can still choose not to like it.”
“Understood and dulely noted.”
“Where are they now?”
“In the building. On the 5th floor, according to WuFei.”
Sally noded. “Well, maybe I’ll go down and chat with Wu.”
Une nodded and watched her go out the door. She glanced at her watch, and stood. It was time to retreat to her home and spend a few hours with Maremaia. She knew Sally and Wu Fei would be leaving as soon as the second shift reported in. Heero would be taking Relena to her hotal and staying with her through outhte night. Everyone else would be retreating home and relaxing. Guilt stabbed at her heart as she shut off the light and left the room. She knew she shouldn’t use these kids in this manner, but she really had no choice.

Sally walked through the hallways heading for the inferamy she wanted to check once more on her pateint before the evening shift and Quatre Winner’s sister, Iria came in. She went to the desk and picked up the chart , scanning it quickly before she walked down to the room. She stepped into the dark room and moved over to the sleeping girl. Her machines clicked and hummed as they worked, breathing for her and monitoring her heart. She shook her head. Sally checked her pulse and all the machines, making sure they were running correctly. She turned and headed out the door. She glanced once more at the girl in the bed. She stepped out and looked at the guard at the door.
“You let no one into this room unless I authorize it, ok? If you have a question , you call me at home.”
He nodded and replied,”Yes, Ma’am.”

Hilde stretched as she stood, jarring Duo a little. He grunted and opened one eye.
“Did you have a nice nap?” She asked.
He nodded and she said, “Me, too.”
He got to his feet and pulled her into his arms, holding her close. The only light seeped under the door barely lighting the room.
“I love you, Babe.”
“I love you, too, Duo.”
Their lips touched and then they released each other, hands clasping instantly. “For luck,” They whispered together.
Hilde reached for the door handle and opened it slightly. She stuck her head out to peek down the corridor. It was empty as she and Duo suddenly appeared in the quiet hall. They hurried to the elevator, hoping the floor above were empty. Duo hit the button and it dinged as the doors opened causing Hilde to cringe. It had sounded ungodly loud in the empty hall. They quickly steped in and Duo hit the no. 6 button. The doors seemed to slam shut. Every sound seemed 3 times louder then normal. Duo reached over and grasped Hilde’s arm, reassuring her. It was on a few seconds before they reached the floor and the doors opened. They stepped out into quiet hallway. The only sound was the buzzing of the florescent lights. Hilde pulled Duo down the hallway checking the glass doors for the numbers they needed. At the end of the hall they found the door, with the right numbers and the senator’s name on it as a consultate.
Duo leaned over and pulled a small pick from his hair and fiddled with the lock until it made a familiar click. Hilde stopped him before he pushed open the door. She handed him a pair of black gloves.
“No finger prints.”
They slipped on the gloves and pushed the door open. The office was dark and semi quiet as the y moved through it. Duo pulled out a small flashlight and turned it on. It made a little circle of light that illuminated a small path for them. The only sounds were the office machines that hummed and clicked. Hilde looked over at the receptionist’s desk and past to the fax machine that was printing a fax.
“That has to be his office.” Hilde whispered as she pointed to the glass door that lo i in front of them. Duo pushed on the door ,but it wouldn’t budge. “Locked.” He murmured as he pulled out a pick and handed the light to Hilde. She held it over the lock until it clicked and Duo pushed the door open. She went to the desk and turned on a small desk lamp. It made a small tight circle of light that pooled onto the desk and splashed over onto the floor. She started to pull open the drawers of the desk and rummaging through them.
Duo went to the filing cabinets , opening them and rifling through them. After a few minutes Hidle grunted as she tried to pull open one of the bottom drawers. It was locked. “Hey,Hon, can I have one of your picks?”
Duo reached over and dropped one into her open hand, then continued sorting through the files.
Hilde picked the lock open and pulled the drawer over. She found several disks, all of them lables with various words , that didn’t make sense. Hilde frowned and reached up to touch the mouse, making the screensaver stop. She slipped in on of the disks and went to open the file. She gaped at what came up on the screen. “Well, who woulda though he was into kiddy porn. What a pervert! Maybe we could get him on porn possession.”
Duo turned from his search of the file to look at the photos. “Geeze.” was all he said as he pulled out a file and whisled. “Hey, Hild, I think I got it.”
He came over to her and popping out the porn disk, dropping it back into the drawer.
“Here. Let’s look at this.”
It took a few seconds to load, but a mess of garbled letters came up. “This is it!” Hilde whispered excitedly.”We have to get this to Heero right away. Come on ,Let’s go! How did you find it?”
He held up a folder and pointed to the name at the top. “UNE.” was all it said.
Hilde rolled her eyes as she closed the drawer and dropped the disk in her pocket.
She quickly shut off the light and moved away from the desk. She grabbed Duo’s hand and pulled him toward the door. The y slipped out just as the night watchman slipped his key in the door. They dropped behind the receptionist’s desk and hid in the darkness, as he swept the light over the room. Hilde reached for the gun she had hidden in her sling. She felt Duo move slightly ,knowing he was reaching for his also. After a few sweeps , he was stratified and closed the door, locking it behind him.
Both Duo and Hilde let out the breaths they had been holding. Duo stood first and pulled Hilde to her feet. They moved causously to the door, unlocking it and looking into the hall way. It was empty once again.
“Elevator or stairs?”
“What do you think? Stairs.”
Duo pulled Hilde to the stairs and they hurried down to the first floor.
“We need to find an exit to the street. Do you suppose there is one in the basement, like to a parking garage?”
“Yeah, come on.” Duo turned to her, seeing the wearness that hadn’t been there before. “Your tired.”
“No, I’m ok.”She lied.
“Come on.” He said, knowing she wouldn’t slow them down no matter how tired she was.
They hurried down the last flight and found the door that opened into the under ground parking garage. As the y stepped out into the cool night air, they paused to catch their breaths and a quick kiss.
They exited the garage and ended out on a side walk on the side of the building.
As the y left the building’s underground garage an other pair of eyes watched them.
“They are out.” A man’s voice spoke overa cell phone.
“Go pick them up.” replyeda woman’s voice back at him.”
“Yes, Ma’am,” Came the reply.
The black van pulled out and slowly pulled up behind the couple walking arm in arm. Hilde glanced overat the vechical as it came up besdie them. She watched as the window roled down.
“WuFei?”
“Get in.”
The sliding door opened and the van slowed down just enough for them to get in.
As soon as the y were in and the door closed, Wufei revved the van and they sped away into the night.
“Wu Fei? Why are you here?”
“Une sent me to get you.”
“Why?”
He shrugged, “She has her own agendas.”
