::: Pending Doom :::
When they all arrived, Goku looked his normal battle-mode self. He was prepared, at least, to treat this threat with all the apprehension of carefulness even if he couldn’t keep his mind on it. He watched carefully as the first person to speak was, of course, Renjiamori, and he spoke to Vegeta:
“I have been trying to figure this out since we last parted,” he said, “but I cannot remember the types of powers the Demuhar possessed, or if they had any weaknesses.”
Vegeta inwardly cursed himself. He should have brought Renjiamori to Caps. Corp. and let him talk to Bulma, maybe she could have let him use their research system to find something. Either that or he could have contacted Nartal. It’s too late now, he thought, and he only nodded.
Gohan said, “He has to show up sometime, right?”
“Yeah,” answered Piccolo, “But how do we sense him?”
“Sense him?” Renjiamori thought aloud and turned to Goku. He, too, looked as though he’d put the past behind him as he said, “That’s right… you mentioned that trick to me before.” Now he wished he’d thought of it sooner, he was certain he could duplicate it if given the time. He cursed himself for not trying sooner. It’s been in his face this whole time. He looked at Vegeta and asked, “Could you teach me?”
“I taught myself,” Vegeta answered in the negative, “I wouldn’t know how to explain it to anyone else but I think Gohan should be able to talk you through it.” Gohan nodded and sheepishly said that he would try.
Renjiamori agreed to it but added, “Well, I’m sure it’s not that important since you all can sense him I don’t need to learn this minute.”
“Actually, for some reason we can’t,” Piccolo replied. “I was watching you yesterday and if I’m right, you have the power of the elements.” Renji nodded at him, wondering about the Namekian. Piccolo said, “If you learned how to sense others, you might have an advantage over finding Jeremel that we don’t.” He went on to explain how he’d come to that conclusion and Renjiamori saw some good sense to it and agreed but insisted that they continue to discuss other options for now. Piccolo was satisfied upon hearing that.
After a few moments silence Goten finally blurted out, “What if we stand here for days talking about him, and nothing happens? We’ll just wear ourselves out worrying before the battle even begins.”
“You’re right, son,” said Goku, “but for right now we need to concentrate on the chance of it happening sooner rather than later.”
“Yes,” Vegeta smirked, “Jeremel must be itching for a kill. Now that he’s come out of the closet, what’s to stop him from proving his claim? He’s not going to wait long before he attacks us again; his reputation is on the line.”
Renji smirked at Vegeta. The three half-Saiyans couldn’t understand why he would find that funny, but Piccolo suddenly believed everything he’d overheard Renji saying to Gohan the day before. He used to be a fighter for Frieza, just like Vegeta. The two of them are both mercenaries and tactical thinkers. Piccolo couldn’t help but think they might need that edge for this one.
“We could try to bring him out of hiding by powering up?” Gohan offered.
“No,” Vegeta said, shooting the idea down, “We don’t know if he can sense energy like we can, and if he can, we’d only be setting our own trap, luring him to us while we’re still at a disadvantage by not being able to sense him.”
“Damn,” Gohan said, but left it at that.
Renji asked, again talking to Vegeta, “Is there any way that I can contact Nartal from this planet?”
“Maybe,” Vegeta answered.
“Maybe they can track him, or they’ve heard something, and even if they haven’t they’re sure to have more information on the Demuhar than we have at present.”
Vegeta nodded but said nothing else.
“It’s probably best for us to all stick together from here on out,” Trunks chimed in, “That way Goku can take everyone to him like yesterday.”
Goku had to admit he doesn’t like the idea of being forced to stay near Renji and Vegeta at all times but he knows Trunks has a good point. He asks, in a futile effort to affront the idea, “Should we go to Bulma’s? Or would we be putting their lives in danger at Caps. Corp.?”
“If,” Piccolo answered, “Jeremel is going to strike Caps. Corp., it would be best to be there.”
“Agreed,” Vegeta said, crossing his arms, “Jeremel’s trying to prove a point. That could very well be his next target.”
Goku nodded, “Then let’s go.”
::: High Tide :::
“Prince Vegeta,” Raditz called as he knocked on his door. He walked through as it opened half expecting to find Renji there but Vegeta was alone, sitting at his desk. It looked as if he was just thinking. If Raditz didn’t know any better, he’d say he saw him flinch, but he hasn’t done that for a few years now. He knew why he got that reaction sometimes and sullenly remembered how he’d… raped him so many times. He hated himself for it every time he looked at Vegeta’s face. What was he thinking using him like that? What would his father have to say?
“You wanted to talk to me?” Vegeta asked at his silence, his irritation ever evident.
His voice and concerned look caught Raditz’s attention and drew him from his thoughts. “Yes, well,” he stalled, “I’m leaving tomorrow to go find Kakarot-”
“You voice it so freely Raditz, why not just go tell Frieza now what our plan is? Save us the hassle of getting caught,” Vegeta growled.
Raditz stood to attention and apologized. He added, “I just wanted to say a few things before I go.”
At this Vegeta got up out of his chair, replying, “Whatever it is, I’m sure you have good reason to come to me like this, so unexpectedly.” He felt better standing against his opponent, not really wanting to hear what he had to say. He knew he could kill him if he wanted to, but he couldn’t, something just wouldn’t allow it, even after all the humiliating sessions they’d had together. In all honesty, he hoped Kakarot would do the job for him (of course he never told anyone that.)
Raditz begged, “Prince Vegeta, I…”
“What is it? Spit it out or leave.” To say that Vegeta felt uncomfortable is an understatement. Even after all these years and with his significant growth in temperament from boy to man, he’s still a hot-headed, blusteringly loud-mouthed and proud Saiyan prince.
Raditz saw his hatred and he knew he’d earned it. He wanted so badly to complete this mission to make Vegeta like him again and to make his own heart glad. He said, in a wavering voice, “Think more of me when I return,” and he added quickly and quietly, “I’m sorry for my mistakes.”
Vegeta made no response. His anger was great and he hardly knew how to control it. He doesn’t want an apology from him and he doesn’t want his pity!
“What mistakes?” Renji spoke sternly from behind Raditz, having caught only the tail end of their conversation.
Raditz turned quickly and allowed Renji to enter the room. He wouldn’t dare pick a fight with him and Renji knew it. However, he was very reluctant to answer.
Renji doesn’t like a certain feeling he’s always had about Raditz, though Vegeta never answered any question he ever asked about their past. At least, nothing he said ever roused suspicion of something wrong between them. Still, the feeling is there and it never goes away.
“Raditz was just leaving, Amori,” Vegeta said, crossing his arms.
“What mistakes?” Amori asked again, this time more towards both of them rather than just Raditz.
Raditz finally said, haughtily, “If you don’t know then it’s not your business,” and he turned and ran away.
“How dare you!” Renji went after him but Vegeta grabbed ahold of him and pulled him back.
“Drop it, Amori.”
Amori, with fire in his speech, grabbed a hold of Vegeta and replied, “Something’s going on between you two- what is it?”
Vegeta took a step back, breaking free of Amori’s hold. Emotionally horrified, he tried to keep a clear face as he replied, “What are you talking about? Nothing is going on between me and Raditz. How could you think that?”
Amori, wanting to believe him, asked in his normal snarky and curious tone, “Well then something was going on between the two of you at some point in time. How could you not tell me?” He was convinced he’d finally learned the truth at the queer behavior between them and he expected a thorough response.
Vegeta had other ideas, though, and he answered simply and dramatically, “You have no idea what you’re talking about!”
“Vegeta-”
“No!” Vegeta’s arrogance and youth showed true as he yelled, turning away from Amori, “You always assume things- you always think you’ve found a scenario to explain me and why I am the way I am. You don’t know me at all.”
Amori was more than confused by why Vegeta would say that of all things. He was concerned, but he resisted the urge to speak for as long as he thought Vegeta would still talk. (Vegeta rarely says anything that isn’t cynical, sinister, or foreboding.) He waited, but he was wrong, Vegeta just kept his back to him in silence.
After some time Amori replied, softly, “I do know you.”
“No, you don’t,” Vegeta replied coldly, and said, “You just fell in love with the idea of me from some story you heard before we’d ever met.”
Amori, speechless, told himself it wasn’t true and then, when he became convinced it wasn’t, he told Vegeta, “Do you think I only love you because I have committed the crimes that you have, and therefore I cannot judge you by them?” Vegeta thought hard about his question but his heart was weak and he could only listen as Amori said, “Or is it because you and I have gone through similar tragedies that you think I avowed to have you?” Vegeta stifled any remarks, still. He’s more interested in listening to Amori tell him he loves him than blurting out the truth and causing even more of a fight. Amori said as he walked closer and wrapped his arms around him, oblivious to Vegeta’s genius trick, “I couldn’t love anyone of less renown. It’s something that comes from deep down, something inside of you that I know wants what we all want- a life without Frieza.” Vegeta shivered in his arms and refused to cry, knowing he’d be leaving him soon. He could do nothing now but listen as Amori was saying, “We both know well enough that it’s not about what we deserved to have anymore- it’s not about what was owed to us- it’s about our becoming the thing we were always meant to be: Leaders. Leaders of a free world, Vegeta, and I know you will see it through. I know you will, and I hope to fight alongside you before the end. I can see it, you and I, fighting for the same cause,” he sighed and finished, “fighting to end it all.”
Amori could never know how close and yet how far from the truth he really was. Vegeta doubted they’d ever see one another again after he left and yet how he yearned for more time with him, in spite of the fact that their inevitable separation is a main part of his plan. Vegeta turned in his arms and could do nothing but kiss him. He said nothing in reply and thanked whatever good there is in the universe that Amori dropped the subject of Raditz.
Amori thought only of Vegeta. The issue with Raditz he would let slide for now, putting that problem aside along with all of the other things Vegeta constantly insisted on hiding from him. He was convinced that they had all the time in the world to eventually find trust in one another, even though it’s taking years longer than he would like. Besides, if Vegeta and Raditz had been a thing at one point in time and Raditz still has feelings for him, Vegeta’s right, he is leaving tomorrow and there’s no need to push the topic any more at this point in time. He knows Vegeta cares for him and he has learned that sometimes that just has to be enough.
::: Troubled Affair :::
“I need to talk to you,” Amori interrupted what Vegeta thought was going to be a quick getaway into his gravity room for some alone time. He’d been waiting for him to finish talking with his wife about how they were going to contact Nartal. While that information was important, he wasn’t so concerned about it at the moment.
He came at him so quickly and discretely, Vegeta had no choice but to hear him out. Besides, he owes at least that to him, so he invited him inside and waited for him to start.
Amori seemed put off and Vegeta couldn’t really blame him. As Vegeta was contemplating what he might have to say, Amori spoke and said, to Vegeta’s surprise, “I told you before I want no more secrets between us and so now you will answer all of my questions in full.” Vegeta’s laughter seemed to bark at him, Amori ignored it and continued, “So many things have been bothering me and now, as much as I hate it, Goku is furious with me because you can’t give him straight answers, either.”
Suddenly more serious Vegeta replied, “I haven’t heard a question yet.”
Amori began, knowing he now has Vegeta’s full attention, “Why didn’t you tell Goku about me?”
“WHAT??!” Vegeta yelled, instantly his blood came to a boil. Of all things he hadn’t expected to be asked that again. It became a mantra he seemed to be hearing over and over again and he finally screamed, “We’ve already had this discussion!”
“Well!” Amori replied, pissed, but always more controlled, “When I mentioned it to you the first time-”
“You CAN’T be serious!” Vegeta’s anger flared as he tried to regain control. “I won’t do this with you!” He gnashed his teeth, and swore, “Damn it, Amori! What do you want me to say?!”
Amori took a quick moment to consider it before asking, “Why can’t you tell me, anything?!” Flustered and tired of games, he probed reasonably, in an attempt to get Vegeta to understand, “Why do you hide everything from the men that love you??!”
Vegeta’s faced reddened and he growled out, “What does ANY of that MATTER?!”
“It’s your fault that Goku is so angry!” Renjiamori disclosed his true opinion, “It’s your fault that I’m in the middle of your problems! It’s your fault that these disputes between us weren’t settled before you left! It’s your fault for not having the decency to end it! It’s your fault for never being honest with anyone!”
“How is it my fault that you brought me out there and kissed me??!!” Vegeta, again, picked one thing he could use to throw the blame all on him.
Amori took it like a professional and replied, in spite of how much it hurt him, “I did kiss you. I don’t regret it, but,” he paused and looked Vegeta dead in his eyes as he added, with an honest desperation, “You made it clear to me you have no intention of ever loving me again.”
Vegeta shook his head out of habit and became more and more agitated. He felt confused and exposed and never asked him to finish his point or bother to correct him.
Amori had finally had enough at Vegeta’s silent admittance and he added, moreover, “I deserve an answer. I demand at least that much decency and respect from you. Now, tell me the truth.”
Vegeta, although he knew Amori deserved his honesty, still couldn’t just throw it all out into the open, and he hesitated, asking, “The truth about what, Amori?”
Amori sighed and frowned, and the defeated look was back and in addition to it, Vegeta saw exhaustion, but from inside out shined a heightened intelligence even he couldn’t come close to. He heard Renjiamori say, “Why do you have to fight me on this, Vegeta?”
Vegeta had not yet learned the lesson that Amori had learned so well; to be honest with himself and those that he cared for. Aloud, he finished his thoughts by adding, “I never wanted anyone with me.”
Amori walked right up to Vegeta and grabbed a hold of both of his hands. He said, his wisdom pouring out, “That’s only because you never thought of life without Frieza.” His sadness was on display in his eyes and the lines of his mouth as he frowned ever so gently. He told him, “I know you.”
“What are you saying?” Vegeta wondered, vulnerable with him enough to play into his trap.
“I wouldn’t be here today if I weren’t guided by my heart, Vegeta,” Amori said in slight melancholy humor towards himself, “I know my brain to have more sense now and because I’ve made such pitiful choices, but I have to believe there is a reason that all of this is happening. There is a reason.”
Vegeta was irritated over all of course, but he couldn’t deny the subtle way Amori says things help to move the discussion right along. He felt like they’d just met all over again and Vegeta couldn’t help but ask, “Like what?” just like he’s always done.
Amori smiled and said; “For one, so that we can finally have closure between us,” and as he laughed, Vegeta’s heart quailed. Amori added, “And we’re going to kill that son-of-a-bitch that thinks he’s going to call himself the next Frieza!” Vegeta grinned at that, such a fluttering of emotions he couldn’t help it. Amori was stating, in a tone of gentle seriousness, “I think a lesson is to be learned here.”
Vegeta felt an overwhelming desire to kiss Amori and so he did. Blindly, he pulled him close and enjoyed every moment he could get out of the lip lock, pressing into him, tugging at him, savoring him. Amori felt the passion, the desperation, and the emotion and he kissed him like it was the last time- for he knew that Vegeta meant for it to be the very last kiss between them. He reveled in it. He languished in it. He swam in it and he might have drowned if Vegeta hadn’t pulled away, looking at him in a way perhaps only they would understand. Amori gave him a look of similar caliber and planted one last simple kiss on his lips before pulling back entirely and letting him go. Amori turned and walked out of the gravity room without looking back.
::: Cat’s Meow :::
This jealousy thing is really getting old, Goku thought to himself, but just thinking about how useless it is has done nothing to cure it. It’s been difficult to get out of his mind, especially since he knows they were just alone together. Although Bulma, in irritation, informed everyone Vegeta is taking a shower (so he won’t smell like Renjiamori), Renjiamori reeks of him! Why am I so obsessed with this? Goku can’t seem to shake it off no matter how hard he tries.
Everyone’s been in his face all day making side notes about the progress that’s being made, but so far no one has done anything of importance other than Bulma and they’re still waiting on her conformation that communication with Nartal is not only possible but ready to be implemented. Goku hates wasting all his energy worrying about the fight, much less the other fight he’s gotten into. Needless to say, he doesn’t like the idea of being useless, either. Here he is, standing by, waiting with five other men who look pitiful standing around and one more who thinks showering is more important at the moment than their apprehensions.
To top it all off, Renji’s been staring at Goku out of the corner of his eye every once in a while, like he can’t help but glance over at him. Is it guilt? Or is it something else? Does he have something to say? Goku couldn’t help but wonder, but no immediate answers came. He even tried reading his mind, but ended up in Goten’s head, and he immediately stopped, and grabbed the bridge of his nose, not at all happy to hear what went on there, or happy to acknowledge he hasn’t learned how to use this so-called skill he doesn’t even remember learning. Damn it! There’s that headache, again. What happened to me on Planet Nartal that made me start reading minds from a distance and, and seeing these visions?!
k-k-k-Kakarot -t-t-t- a voice came through.
What- Who’s there?
y-y-y-You don’t remember me-e-e-e-
I can’t see you, Goku admitted to his conscience, Who are you?
l-l-l-Look in a mirror-r-r-r
A vision appeared, nearly the very image of Goku, and it said without moving it’s lips;
i-i-i-I’m Bardock, your father. Listen to me-e-e-e
What?! My father?!
i-i-i-I’ve given you a gift, the gift of foresight, just like I had, so that you can save your world, unlike I could-d-d-d.
Foresight? … It’s true? You’re my father?
k-k-k-Kakarot! You’ve been having visions! It’s real! You can learn from it. Use it. Trust it. Don’t be afraid-d-d-d
Father! Wait! I remember your voice!
d-d-d-Don’t be a foolish, meat-headed Saiyan, Kakarot! Get up! Be strong for yourself and for Vegeta! Everyone needs you-u-u-u-!
Bardock! Father!
“Goku?! Goku what’s wrong?”
“Goku, wake up!?”
“Kakarot, get up, damn it!”
At last he opened his eyes. He was conscience but he wanted to hang onto the vision as long as possible. Could it be that he has the powers of foresight? Was he really just talking to his father? It must be so because Vegeta looks pissed and is about to start a fig-
“What the hell is going on with you?” Vegeta growled, grabbing Goku by the shirt and pulling him up off the ground. Goku threw his hands up out of habit and thought hard on what to say. His legs were a little shaky. Vegeta actually did him a favor by setting him onto his feet, but he was yelling at him, saying, “You’re hiding something from me!”
That snapped Goku out of it and he replied, much more upset than he ought to be, “I-it’s nothing!”
The others watched, confused and bewildered as Vegeta said, “You’re lying! You’ve been acting strange. You passed out on the way to the celebration the other day, too! And when I found you this morning you were still sleeping! Tell me what’s going on!”
That look in Vegeta’s eyes, Goku thought, he almost looks concerned… so similar to my dream.
“Tell me!”
“Vegeta, I don’t know how to explain it or what to say…”
“You better start trying!” Vegeta’s grip on his shirt tightened.
Goku stuttered but came out with it, “I-I think I can see the future.”
“What?!” was the response that came in unison from all of the shocked listeners.
“Dad,” Gohan interrupted, “What are you saying?”
Vegeta finally let go of him and stared at him strangely, “What do you mean?” he wondered.
Goku sighed, “It’s been happening for a little while now. I keep seeing these visions, and they keep coming true, but not always the way I saw them to begin with, and I…”
Vegeta would have insisted that he spit it out but Amori interrupted, guessing, “You can read minds, too?”
Goku looked at him and nodded.
“He’s always had the ability to read minds, ever since he travelled to Namek,” Piccolo said, wanting them to explain more fully what they were talking about.
“This is different, Piccolo,” Goku admitted, “Before I would have to be touching someone, but now, now it’s like the information just comes to me, but I don’t know how to control it. I can’t decide whose mind I’m going to read or when I’m going to read it, it just happens.”
“So you’ve been reading MY mind?” Vegeta asked, furious.
“No! No, Vegeta, I haven’t!”
“But you have read my mind,” Amori stepped closer. Goku nodded, and it took Amori sometime before he said anything in response.
He wasn’t the only one stunned into silence. This is a new development for all of them and no one knows what to think about it.
“Hey,” Trunks finally chimed in, “Maybe, if you tried to control it, you could read Jeremel’s mind!”
“It’s a thought,” Piccolo nodded, “worth looking into to.”
Gohan chuckled at him and Amori smiled while Piccolo blushed, but no one else understood why.
Vegeta, not paying attention to anything but his own thoughts and Goku, was dying to know more and asked, “You never mentioned this before! What exactly do you mean you can see the future?”
Goku sighed, knowing Vegeta would want more information, he answered, “I didn’t want to say anything because I wasn’t sure what was going on… I don’t know, really, it’s like I have these flashes of images, sometimes it’s something that’s about to happen, or that will happen soon, but sometimes it’s something else, like a memory from the distant past.”
Vegeta stood in silence which covered up most of his surprise and anger. Anything else he had to say would be put off until later since Bulma came running out to them carrying some type of device she’d no doubt just finished the final construction of and requesting their attention excitedly.
“This is it!” she exclaimed, “You can contact Planet Nartal using this system!”
“Really?” Amori asked, meeting her quickly so that he could take a look at the object. “How does it work?”
“Oh, well, that’s a bit technical-”
“No,” he corrected her adamantly, and said, “I meant, what do I do to use it? We must get in touch with them now.”
“Okay, okay!” Bulma huffed, “It’s already set to the correct trajectory. I figured you would know some frequencies out there and maybe from that you could contact somebody.”
“Woman!” Vegeta growled and moved closer as he said, “That’s all you could come up with?”
“Hey, it’s better than nothing,” she replied in her normal fashion. She knew better than to expect a “thank you” from any of them.
“No, this should work,” Amori said, “We do have a certain station at the base that always has our people listening, in case of emergencies such as this.” He typed the numbers in quickly and waited for an answer to come in on the speaker. “This is a two-way stereo, right?”
“Yes, of course,” Bulma said, adding, “Well, it should be.”
Suddenly a voice was heard over the device. It came in loud a clear, “We’ve received your call. Come in. Quickly.”
“This is Renjiamori, who am I speaking to?” The voice sounds familiar.
“Renjiamori! Where the fuck are you?”
Renji looked at Vegeta, confused, as he responded, “I’m on Earth. Your name, sir, I need to talk to someone in the Progression immediately.”
“I am in the Progression! You and I are the only ones left. This is Huntre. Nartal is gone.”
“Gone! What do you mean gone?” Renji gasped. Goku frowned, furious as he listened.
There was crackling through the speaker before Huntre answered, “Jeremel destroyed it. I left with some of the others not long after you all disappeared so that we could try to help defend the Earth against him. I also made sure to create a port between their systems and mine so that I could use it as my own in case you tried to get a hold of anyone, so that I could let you know we were on the way. I didn’t think he’d blow it all up. It happened so fast. Where is Jeremel? I’ve been trying to think of a way to contact you but…” He received no immediate reply. Everyone listening was too distraught by the news to have anything to say. Huntre added, “I thought he went to Earth to destroy it, have you not seen him?”
Renji didn’t feel like discussing it with him but he felt it couldn’t hurt and so he said, “We have and he tried, but I have not seen him in nearly a day, and he has not attacked again. I never thought…”
Huntre understood his bafflement; he hasn’t quite gotten over it yet, himself. All he has to say now is, “We are on our way. We should be there in five days. What would you have us do?”
“No,” Goku interrupted, “Tell them not to come, they can’t help us. They’ll only be endangering their own lives.”
Renji looked at Goku, thoughtful, and for some time he didn’t give him the message. Huntre had heard him all the same, and although he hesitated, he eventually said, “We’re coming to Earth, under orders or not. I won’t let this happen to anyone else if I can help it.”
Vegeta sneered, “You’re the bounty hunter, can’t you find out where he’s hiding?”
Irritation could be heard in Huntre’s voice as he said, “That sort of thing takes time. More time than we have I’d say, but I can try to do some digging.”
Pissed, as usual, Vegeta replied, “You’re telling me you know nothing about his usual whereabouts?”
“Well,” Huntre thought to himself, “Maybe. I’ll get back to you on that. Oh, and Vegeta?”
“What?” Vegeta growled out.
“For what it’s worth, I’m sorry.”
Vegeta snarled and turned away.
Renji watched at Vegeta walked away from everyone and absentmindedly replied, “You have our codes, contact us if you learn anything. Anything. Understood?”
“Yes. Out.”
Amori gave the machine back to Bulma and asked her that moment to find a way for the thing to create a noise or some way to alert them when there is an incoming call.
Shocked and a little dismayed, she still agreed, though reluctantly. She figured she’d done her part, but doing a little more for the sake of the Earth wouldn’t kill her. This Renjiamori man sure is demanding, she thought, He’s intelligent and convincing, too. She wondered a bit more about him as she hurried away.
Goku took a step towards Renji and asked, “Do you think it’s a good idea for them to come here? They couldn’t stop Vegeta, what makes you think they’ll have a chance against Jeremel?”
Renji, after a moment of calculation, replied, “Is it a Saiyan quality to make demands and give out orders when under a stressful situation? Or is it their egos that make them push everyone away and constantly exalt themselves? I’ve always heard that you are not like other Saiyans, that you are humble and thankful to all who offer a helping hand, but I don’t see it.”
“I will not stay and listen to this!” Vegeta suddenly interrupted, surprising Goku from his response. “Kakarot, stop trying to heed them, they’re fighters like us, it’s all they’ve ever known and they won’t back down. What’s done is done. Accept it! Renjiamori, I don’t want to hear another word about what you’ve heard about the Saiyans or Kakarot! If you don’t have anything more to say about what we’re going to do about Jeremel, then don’t bother speaking to me at all.” With that he stormed off.
Renji and Goku stared one another down, and neither Gohan, nor Goten, nor Trunks, nor Piccolo could turn away. It seemed the contest between them ended simultaneously and the tension in the air dissipated as they both went their separate ways, obviously not done with their fight from the day before.
Amori knew better than to go after Vegeta, so he turned back and asked Gohan to try to teach him the ki-sensing technique.
Goku, on the other hand, headed straight for Vegeta, knowing he ought to do some more explaining before he really gets mad.
“Vegeta, please, listen,” Goku started, Vegeta’s back was turned to him and his arms were crossed.
“I can’t believe you hid something like that from me!” He growled out, not even turning to face him.
“You never tell me anything!”
“I’m not the one experiencing out of this world visions and reading people’s minds on a whim!”
“I can’t explain it myself, Vegeta! It just started happening! Ever since we got to Nartal-”
“What started happening?” Vegeta wondered, more curious than anything, and finally turned around to face him.
“I-I was in this room… and I blacked out, that’s when it began. I saw visions of Planet Vegeta, my father, your father, but I also saw our sons, and Raditz, and Renjiamori… None of it makes any sense, but…”
“But?”
“But I think it’s my father… He talked to me and he said I could use this power to help the fight,” Goku looked down in thought, trying to make sense of everything that he’s seen and heard, but most of it was just a blur.
“You talked to Bardock?” Vegeta asked in awe.
Goku’s brows furrowed as he asked, “How do you know my father’s name?”
“Raditz is your brother, remember,” Vegeta answered, “He spoke of him often once we decided to head towards the Earth and try to find you.”
“Oh,” Goku replied, but could think of nothing else to say.
Vegeta, likewise, grew silent and didn’t care much for striking up new conversation, but Goku perceived his thoughts loud and clear: I can’t believe he has learned such powers. I can’t compete with something like that. What’s worse is I can’t help him develop them either… If there was a way I could help him practice… I don’t even know why I’m thinking about helping him, anyways.
Goku turned away so Vegeta wouldn’t see his distraught expression. He couldn’t respond for fear of Vegeta knowing he’d read his mind, and he could think of nothing else but the problems between them.
“Well, Kakarot,” Vegeta’s demeanor changed a little and he lifted his chin as he said, “Looks like you’ve got some training to do.” He blasted off before Goku could ask for his help and he knew Vegeta was jealous of him.
For a moment he thought that it made him happy, but really he knows he just wants to talk to Vegeta about everything and stop this fighting.
