A nap on the couch
Chapter twelve;
A nap on the couch
Wufei was sitting on the far end of the living room’s sofa with his hands fisted in a thin blanket he still had over his lap. So far he hadn’t said anything to the tall blond, and he was grateful that the man had left him alone, until now.
He had sat himself down next to him just a minute ago, reading a newspaper. At least Wufei thought it was, because the paper rustle didn’t come from any ordinary book. The tall man was sitting closer then he usually did, but he wasn’t so close that Wufei cold reach out and touch him. Still, he didn’t like it.
The hands that were fisted in that blanked clenched tighter and pulled the red cloth closer around him.
He still hadn’t figured out how last night could possible have happened. It had never happened before, not even when the braided pilot had forced him against the wall in his sleep, touching him because he believed that he was somebody else. He hadn’t reacted then, so why now?
Well, he had reacted, just not that way. He had almost snapped the boy’s neck, and after that time he always made sure that he was sleeping alone, or on the couch if the beds were taken already. And if there was no couch, the tub.
Even on the floor if that option wasn’t available either. The others had never questioned him, which he could only guess that he had Duo to thank for. The other boy must have understood that it had bothered him quite a bit.
He had just finished the last drops of his, surprisingly, very tasteful cup of tea which Zechs had place in front of him a while ago. The toast however had barley been touched, but the tall blond had let it be. He hadn’t argued with him like he had two days ago.
Apparently he knew the boy needed some time to sort his own mind out.
Once again he had been right..
Wufei was still embarrassed over his actions during the night, while he slept. He knew that he couldn’t control his dreams, nobody could. But he wasn’t interested in Zechs! Not like that...
He couldn’t be, could he?
He wouldn’t be so confused if the tall blond hadn’t changed from that cruel, perverted bastard he was to that kind and forgiving man whom was sitting closer to him that he normally would allow anybody to. He wanted the old Zechs back, the one he knew he hated more then anything in the world. He didn’t want the man to be nice to him, that wasn’t who Zechs was.
He couldn’t hate that man...
He couldn’t wish for his death.
This man was too kind to him to be Zechs.
Zechs shouldn’t be kind. He should bark and beat the hell out of him for even trying to get out of bed without telling him firstly. Zechs should have killed him for doing what he had done last night...
But he hadn’t...
He hadn’t said a word about it. He hadn’t even lectured him about being able to get himself more hurt then possibly possible. He didn’t even wake him up when he had found him sleeping on the couch.
The man hadn’t even asked him how he had gotten out of bed.
Wufei had tried to move in his sleep, to get away from that uncomfortable warmth that he was enclosed in. He had tried to toss the covers off his body, but he couldn’t move his arms.
Then he woke up with a startled gasp.
He remembered that the body that lay spooned against his back belonged to Zechs.
He had growled low, a noise to close to a whisper and then he had turned so that he faced the man. He had tried to wiggle out of his hold, but just ended up with his hands pressed against his chest as the blond had pulled him closer.
Murmuring.
He couldn’t understand it. Why was he constantly searching out for Zechs’s warm body at night?!
It wasn’t that cold!
And he wasn’t in love with the man!
He wasn’t even remotely interested in him!
He couldn’t be!
Wufei shifted over the couch, pulling his legs up against his chest and rested his eyes over Zechs’s form. His eyes hadn’t improved at all... Not like his speech had anyway, but he was sure that he had seen some shadows and light coming from the large windows in the living room when he had finally managed to step into the room.
He smiled.
It hadn’t been an easy task to get himself untangled from the man’s strong arms, but he had managed that too. And without waking the tall blond! The man didn’t even stir as he moved to the edge of the mattress and the off the bed as he had a few nights before-
Only this time he didn’t fall.
He didn’t even falter in his unsteady steps at first.
The dark haired boy leaned his head against the back. He really was getting better, fast. At least he had one thing to be happy about today, even if that meant that he would need Zechs to carry him around for the rest of the day. His legs ached, and for the first time he wouldn’t have turned down a painkiller or two.
To know that he had almost been able to make it to the couch was more then worth it.
He had arisen from bed and forced his legs to take him into the other room only because he needed to think, to meditate, and he couldn’t do that with the man that had caused the need to do so lying next to him. The man was already aware that he had sneaked out of his hold, there was a frown on his face and one of his arms searched the mattress.
Wufei had shaken the confused thoughts from his mind and focused on his legs. The had trembled and shaken in agony, but he hadn’t let himself fall. Not yet.
He hadn’t known how Zechs’s living room had been furnished, but he didn’t think that there would be anything but perhaps some carpets between him and the large couch further into the room.
It was pure luck, but he had been right.
But that hadn’t made the walk over there any easier.
He had lost count on the times he had almost fallen, on the times when he thought that he could collapse and be forced to call for help or sleep on the floor.
He remembered the smile that had been plastered over his lips when he was just a few steps away from the large couch. His breath was nothing but heavy pants and his heart hammered beneath his ribcage, legs wobbling and screaming in pain. But he had still been standing.
Only a few steps more to take and he would have bumped into the backside of that couch.
Only a few steps left and his legs cramped.
He fell.
Luckily, he hadn’t hurt himself and the loud ‘thump’ hadn’t awakened Zechs.
He had winced in pain though, but he still managed to reach his right hand out, fingers spread as they brushed by something. He smiled. His fingertips were indeed touching the backside of said couch.
He had almost made it!
He pulled his arms in under his body and crawled to the back of the sofa, the he had leveled himself up against it, walked around it and then he had let his weight fall down on it in exhaustion.
He had chosen to walk there to think, but soon after he had laid down his head against a cushion his eyelids closed and he sank into a deep and peaceful sleep.
He hadn’t realized that he had fallen asleep until the smell of coffee and toast had reached his nostrils. A low moan had slipped out of him before he could stop it and then he heard a raspy chuckle.
“”I hope that would wake soon, there’s a cup of tea and two slices of toasted bread next to it on the table in front of you.”
Wufei had yawned and felt a blanket slide down from his torso.
To be Continued...
Ehrm, well... it isn’t the best I’ve ever written, but it had to be written.
