Sometimes irony is too funny for words, and sometimes it sucks so much you just wish 'irony' was a person so you could drag it into the street, beat the living hell out of it, and shoot it. Heero's software of meant to protect people, not be used by terrorists trying to... ah, hell, we ain't got a clue what they're trying to do yet. And we have no time.
Quatre's frantic, Wufei's pissed, Une's livid, and Heero's... well, he's Heero. Mission first, self later. And truth be told, there may not be a later for him. I hate admitting that. I've watched friends die cruel, painful deaths. I can't do it again. I never in a million years thought I'd see Heero less than healthy. But here he is, growing weaker before our eyes, and there's nothing I can do to stop it.
What do you do when the strongest person you've ever met isn't so strong anymore and some maniac is hell bent on taking him away at the worst possible time?... Me? I cursed a lot.

“What are the instructions?” Une asked as Weir hooked Heero up to the pump.(1)
“That I'm to drive south. No tracking devices in the car. No one is to follow. If he even thinks a Preventer is following, he'll injure one of them.”
Weir taped the tube to Heero's left arm where it ran up to his shoulder and down his chest to his waist where the pack was on his belt. The doctor fiddled with the buttons on it. “I would have preferred to put in a portacath(2) but there's no time. Make sure to keep it taped so the needle doesn't come out. Try to move that arm as little as possible.”
Heero nodded and glanced to the clock. Ten minutes. He took a breath and stood, trying to ignore the worried glances sent his way from all in the room. “I need to go.”
Quatre put his arms around him, burying his face in Heero's shoulder. “We'll find out who's doing this and get you back.”
Heero nodded and tipped up Quatre's chin to kiss him. Duo reached out and gripped Wufei's hand. Wufei squeezed it gently. Une dropped her eyes from the tender scene. She was furious with herself. They were careful with who they hired. Extensive background checks were done on all of her operatives. But she'd overlooked something, and now it was costing her her best agents.
“Love you,” Quatre whispered as Heero pulled back.
Heero tried for a comforting smile, but it failed miserably. “Love you, too.” He grabbed his jacket, a bag with some change of clothes, and his keys before looking to Duo, Wufei, and Une. “If I can find a way to contact you and let you know who's behind this, I will. Chances are, you'll find out tomorrow. Whoever doesn't show up at work tomorrow is probably your man.”
Une nodded as they followed Heero downstairs. Marty had a cooler sitting on the table that he was filling with sandwiches and other items. Heero peeked in to find bottles of water and some apples. Next to the cooler were all of Heero's pills in a bag. He smiled to the cook.
“Thanks, Marty.”
The man cleared his throat. “Just make sure you come back.”
“I... I'll try.”
Quatre grabbed the cooler while Heero lifted the bag with his meds and moved out to his car. He sat in the driver's seat and looked up to the blond. “I'll be fine.”
Quatre nodded. “You better be.”
Heero's cell rang, the caller ID identifying the call was coming from Trowa's phone. “Yuy.”
“On the road yet?” a voice he didn't recognize asked.
“About to be.”
“Get driving or Miss Lane here loses a limb.”
Heero gripped the door. “I've got to go now, Quatre.” The blond stepped back and Heero slammed the door shut, threw the car in drive, and sped off down the road. “All right, I'm driving. Let me talk to one of them.” There was silence for a moment.
“Heero?”
He sighed in relief. “Ronnie, are you okay?”
“I am, but Trowa's been hurt.”
He swallowed. “I know, I saw the pictures.”
“No, it's worse now. He really pissed-” Her voice cut off and he heard a smack.
“Ronnie?”
“Sorry, she's indisposed at the moment.”
Heero ground his teeth. “What did you do to Trowa?”
The man snorted. “I didn't do anything. My boss did it.”
His knuckles turned white from his grip on the steering wheel. “What is wrong with him?”
“He'll live, Yuy. Just keep driving and you'll be picked up.”
The line went dead and Heero resisted the urge to throw the phone.
******
Duo turned as Heero's car disappeared around a curve and all but ran back to his laptop. Heero's had been completely fried by the virus that had been released when he'd tried to hack his own security program.
“Do you have any idea where to start looking?”
His eyes flicked to Une briefly. “It must have something to do with the weapons deals. My guess is Harding is behind it and took a grand opportunity to get himself on the case. Took Trowa and Ronnie hostage, somehow. And everyone knows the six of us stick close. I just need to find out exactly how big his group is and what they want with Heero... And what their plans are for the weapons.”
She nodded. The major problem was, she didn't know who she could trust. She took a breath. “Pack everything up and get to headquarters. I'm calling in Zechs and Noin to help.”
He nodded. “Who else can we trust?”
She shook her head. “I honestly don't know.”
(An hour later)
Zechs frowned at the group they found in the meeting room, especially concerned at their expressions. “What's going on?”
Une directed for him and Noin to sit. “Here is what we know. The body of Agent Williams was discovered in an unused hangar at the airport. At 1400 hours it came to our attention that Agents Barton and Lane were abducted to be held hostage.”
Noin's eyes widened. “What are the demands?”
“Heero,” Quatre answered in a soft, broken voice.
Zechs ground his teeth. “Who's doing it?”
“We're not sure, yet, but Preventers are involved. Harding was on that mission with Barton and he was neither found dead nor in the photograph. We can only assume at this point in time that he is involved, which leads me to wonder if there are any other agents involved.”
“What do they want with Heero?”
She shook her head. “We don't know that, either. But there is some concern that this has to do with the case Barton was investigating. We have knowledge of five warehouses that hold weapons shipped from L2.”
“Anyone been to the warehouses?”
“Not yet, it has all come into light in the last two days, and the latest only within the last few hours. We need to find out exactly who is running this group, how much manpower they have, how many warehouses they have, and what they want from Yuy.”
Zechs took the file she slid across the table and skimmed the information. His brows drew together. “Arizona... Yuy and I had a mission there about two years ago. It was in the same town.”
“What was the mission?” Duo asked.
“We went undercover in a gang that was supposedly into more than street fights.”
Wufei leaned his elbows on the table. “What did you discover?”
Zechs looked to Une, and she nodded, but obviously wasn't very happy about it as he answered the question. “They were receiving arms. It took some time but we did find the distributors and shut them down. Heero said he thought there was more to it when all was said and done, but he wouldn't tell me why he thought that and after... Well, the case was closed.”
Quatre's eyes narrowed. “After what?”
Zechs took a breath. “The leader was highly intelligent but a pig of a man. He had a... special fondness for Asians, especially if they were mixed. Heero played up to that to get the information we needed.”
Quatre's jaw dropped and he looked to Une. “You sent him on a mission to whore him out?”
“Yuy agreed to the mission and knew the risks. I didn't want to send him. I warned him that the man would probably expect certain services if he was going to get any information out of him. Yuy said he figured that, and if that was the case he was suited for it anyway.” She shook her head. “He said something about being perfect for it since he'd been able to get a straight man off.” She raised an eyebrow at the flush that crept up Quatre's cheeks. “Do you know something about that?”
Quatre bit his lip. “That's really not important to the case.” He looked to Zechs. “Do you think the cases are connected?”
He raised a shoulder. “Can't say for sure.”
Une cleared her throat. “Zechs, I want you to go back through the file from that case and see if you can find anything to connect them. Maxwell, I want you to find where the weapons are coming from on L2. Chang, see if you can out who's running this group. Noin, I want you searching for any more warehouses.” She turned, motioning they were dismissed.
Quatre stood. “I want to help.”
“You're not a Preventer.”
“I've helped with cases before.”
She sighed. “Winner, you're too close to this case.”
He gaped. “And the others aren't?”
She put a gentle hand on his shoulder. “They aren't Yuy's lover.”
Zechs and Noin both raised eyebrows. They hadn't heard that piece of information. Quatre glared at her, spun on his heels and stormed from the room.
“I'd like to see you try to stop me from helping.”
Zechs caught up to him. “Quatre, it really would be best if you stayed...”
He glared up at the taller blond. “What exactly did Heero do with that man?”
Zechs cringed. “He did what he had to, but he was never hurt. The man wasn't sadistic or anything.”
“I want details, Zechs.”
Noin looked from the smaller blond to her husband. She'd never seen Quatre so angry and she wasn't sure how he would take the facts of what happened on that mission. Zechs nodded slowly.
“Come with me.”
