Gohan and Renjiamori are alone again. They need to be able to focus. As they sat on the ground beside a lake, Gohan’s been trying to teach him the ki-sensing technique. Renji’s finding it a little trickier to learn than he thought it’d be and after a few hours he’s only gotten as far as being able to sense his own ki inside, so they decided to take a break.
“We should go back to Bulma’s and get some food,” Gohan offered, sighing. Renji frowned and didn’t respond. His eyes looked deep but unfocused. Gohan smiled, “Is it Vegeta or my dad that you don’t want to see?”
“Hmm?!” Renji asked, surprised at himself for being so moody. He said, smiling at Gohan, “Am I so obvious?”
“Well,” Gohan chuckled, “You and my dad haven’t really tried to hide your dislike for one another.”
Renji stood up to stretch his legs and couldn’t bring himself to disagree completely with what Gohan had just said. Did he really dislike Goku? He’s been hard on him, that’s true, and the circumstances haven’t been ideal, but did he have a true dislike for him? Or is it just jealousy, tragedy, and confusion that are making him so irritated with the man. Gohan watched him intently and could easily see his internal struggle. He fondly waited for him to speak. Renji admitted, “I just have a hard time seeing things his way…” Gohan noticed that a sudden look crossed his face as though he’d had an epiphany. He didn’t have to ask because he was already saying, “Gohan, take me to your father. Now.”
Startled by his authoritative tone, he squeaked, “Okay,” and began flying the short distance to Goku with Renji in tow behind him. When they arrived Goku was sitting in a meditation position, and he opened his eyes just as they landed.
“Leave us,” Renji said to Gohan. Gohan looked confused and wanted to argue, but something in Renjiamori’s eyes told him he ought to do as he had been told. Besides, this is his Dad’s fight, and as bad as he wants to know what’s going on, he still doesn’t want to get involved.
Goku stood up and stared Renji down just as he had earlier in the day.
Renji, being straightforward, asked without hesitation, “Why are you lying to everyone?” Goku frowned and even though Renji doesn’t know him very well, he could still see a spark of recognition go through his eyes. He explained, “You told me on Nartal that you could sense Jeremel. You know where he is.”
Goku stalled for a moment before he replied in an awkward admittance, “I didn’t know he would blow up Nartal. I’m sorry. If I can wish them back to life after this is over, I will.” He kept a close eye on Renjiamori as he reacted to that news. He wasn’t too surprised that he figured it out. He thought about his mistake far too late and couldn’t change it, and Renjiamori, being as intelligent as he is, was sure to realize it.
Renji gnashed his teeth and remarked, “I don’t live in a world where there’s a rewind button for every criminal attack. I can’t care about that, now. I want to know why you are lying to everyone and why we’re not trying to fight him, now! Where is he!?”
Goku closed his eyes in frustration. He wanted to discuss this with Vegeta first but he couldn’t bring himself to speak with him right now so he’s forced to speak with Vegeta’s ex... (Or whatever he is). How did he let himself become so out of control with his emotions? He’s always been controlled and focused, but now?! He could only answer, “He’s far away. I’m not sure what planet he’s on.”
“And?!” Renji’s face was all annoyance and discontent. He didn’t intend to allow any more games to be played between them.
Goku sighed, “Look, I wasn’t going to tell… them. Once I learned that no one else could sense him I decided to keep that information to myself. I plan on telling Vegeta but the last thing I want is for him to be mad at me because I can sense him and he can’t, he’s already mad at me for being able to see the future and read minds… This is all new to me.”
Renji scoffed, “You’re going to let a personal problem between you and Vegeta stop you from helping save everyone’s lives?”
“No! You don’t understand! I’m confused about everything. I’ve got everyone’s voices in my ears and in my head and I’m seeing these visions but I can’t quite make out what’s happening in them. I’m buying more time, Renjiamori, as much time as needed to be more prepared. I plan on fighting Jeremel but not like this.”
As Renji listened to his explanation, he knew there was more to it than what was being said, and upon perceiving him he asked, “You actually plan on fighting him alone, is that it? You plan on keeping everyone else out of it-”
“Yes, Renji, if I can. He’s strong, stronger than you might imagine.”
“Goku, this is not up to you-”
“I want to wait it out, and I have an opportunity to do that. I want to train just a little bit more. If you and the others are going to be involved I want a little more time to figure him out first… You said yourself you don’t know what types of powers he has…”
Renji thought hard about what Goku was saying and realized that regardless if he agreed with him, he would still have to make a decision on whether or not he was going to keep his secret. Eventually he asked, “How is it that you are able to sense him and the others cannot?”
“I’m not sure,” Goku shook his head, “and I don’t know if I would have been able to sense him before this whole ordeal happened back on Nartal.”
Renji asked, “What happened, exactly?”
Goku was thin-lipped for a moment before deciding to open up to him, and he answered, “I spoke to my father, like I said, I saw things.”
“Things like what?” Renji pushed, not content with his vague responses.
Goku, still a bit stiff, replied, “Jeremel’s speech, back on Nartal… I saw part of it. I also got a glimpse of you and Vegeta when you were much younger…”
Renji nodded at his pause and admitted something he hadn’t even told Vegeta, “Your father had the gift for a little while before he passed, or so I heard.” Goku’s mouth hung agape and he asked him how he knew that. He answered, “Planet Kannassa was a strange planet where it was said people could learn how to read minds and see the future. I knew of it from stories on my home planet.” He closed his lips and did not speak for some time. Goku couldn’t read his mind, even though he tried, so he waited. Suddenly Renji added, “When it was told that the Saiyans in Frieza’s army had conquered Planet Kannassa, it was no small detail. Everyone in the empires of all the closest planets became aware of how strong the Saiyans were proving themselves to be. Your father, Bardock, was the head of the crew that took the planet over. It had been said that he returned from the battle with mysterious head trauma, something was changed in his brainwaves, but when he awoke, he swore he was fine.” Goku’s brows furrowed as he heard him finish by saying, “Planet Vegeta was destroyed not three days later,” Changing his tone a little, he said, “He must have found a way to connect his intellect with yours for this, as our need must be more dire than we know, and that’s why you’ve been seeing impossible visions of the past and well as the future.”
Goku silently considered everything that he has been told as Renji, unhappy in general with all circumstances, crossed his arms over his chest and stared hard into Goku’s eyes. He finally decided that there was no point in screening his words if his thoughts were already being read, and said, going back to the original topic, “You must tell them soon or I will. I want to know the moment you have more information. This is not a game. I know how you Saiyans are about wanting to prove yourselves in battle…”
Goku nodded after a moment but replied, “I am a Saiyan, Renji, but I’m from Earth. You probably know more about the Saiyans than I do. Hell, you and Vegeta knew my father’s name, I didn’t even know that. So keep that in mind next time you think a comment like that is going to have any effect on me. I’m not like other Saiyans.”
Renji smirked at him and asked, “How would you know that?” Goku could say nothing, so Renji went on with, “Listen, and please listen carefully to me, Goku. I will have only you, myself, and Vegeta fighting him in the end if I can help it. I do not wish for anything to happen to your friends or your children. I may not show it, but I do grieve now for the men and women lost to me because of Jeremel’s actions, I truly have nothing left to lose in this fight except for my life, and that I am willing to sacrifice if it means securing peace for the universe once again. I can see that you feel some inclination to protect those around you and it is admirable, but you cripple yourself by refusing to allow others to help you-”
Goku thought hard on what Renjiamori was saying. He could hear the sadness in his voice and see the loneliness on his face. He thought, He must have thought that Vegeta might be just as lonely as he is and he hoped they could finally be happy together. Goku sighed and couldn’t help his mixed feelings about the situation. He finally said, “I’m usually not like this, Renji. You just… you don’t understand.”
Renji said, “I would like to believe you if you could explain to me what, exactly, I don’t understand.”
Goku answered, honestly, “Jeremel was too powerful for me and Vegeta yesterday. There’s no way we would have won without your help but at the same time, and I appreciate you, but there’s something else that’s bothering me and I haven’t told Vegeta what I really think yet. Renji, I fear that he’ll only use the others against us. This time the fight is different, this is personal to Jeremel. He doesn’t just want to be a supreme ruler over the universe, he wants to humiliate Vegeta… he wants to hit him where it hurts most, his family and his home, and I can’t let that happen.”
Renji let that sink in and considered where Goku is coming from. He has a point, but there are still many other things that have been bugging him. He said, no longer caring that he was being nosy, “You’re obviously afraid of pissing off Vegeta, but why can’t you just start by being honest with him about all of this?”
Goku kind of chuckled and responded, “Vegeta’s always angry with me about something no matter how hard I try to get things right. It’s a long story.”
“Well,” Renji chuckled and joked, “We don’t know how much time we have left, do we? At this point, now is all we’ve got.”
Goku sighed and a small smile crept to his face, “I don’t know what to say.”
Renji let him keep his secrets for now, despite his mounting curiosity, and instead he offered, “Vegeta aside: One thing I’ve learned in all my years of battle is that there’s no way of controlling what changes may occur on the battlefield. You cannot take someone out of a fight, nor can you take the fight out of someone. However, if you can dominate Jeremel, make him reconsider… Make him only want to fight you, then that’s something worth trying. Still, I’m not sure where he stands mentally. I wish I knew him better, and then again I’m glad I don’t.” Renji seemed to be talking just as much to himself as he was to Goku and he scratched his beard in thought.
“Hmm,” Goku’s smile grew and he said, “You do have a good point. I can be the bait! I can reel that fish in, no problem, I think.” Inside, though, he wondered if he was ready to make the catch.
“So, you will tell them?”
“Not yet.”
“When?”
“Renji,” Goku said, beginning to get annoyed but somehow, too, he felt better for having discussed things over with him.
“You must tell Vegeta, today, or else I will tell him, and it will only be one more thing for him to be mad at you about,” before he could think twice about it, he added, “Besides, if you can’t be honest with him, how can you expect him to ever be honest with you?”
Goku wouldn’t allow himself to become too riled up by him, and in his confidence he stated, “I know what you’re doing. You’re pushing my buttons, you’re playing with me. You’ve been doing it ever since we first met.”
“Yes, I have,” Renji smirked, unabashed, “But only to get to know the real you, and only because I can’t help but want to know what type of man Vegeta’s been seeing.”
“You’re not going to get a very good perspective on me if you keep trying to piss me off.”
“Or you could simply be unaffected by my games altogether, since you see them for what they are, and thus show me your true colors, either way.”
Goku smirked back at him and asked, “You wouldn’t really tell Vegeta, would you?”
Renji only replied in kind, “You tell me? It will do you just as well to remember that you don’t really know me.”
Goku smiled a little broader, amused and overall content with Renjiamori at the moment, strangely enough. He sighed and said, “Yes, I will tell him, and I think you knew that, but,” he sighed again, “I have a feeling he already knows…”
::: War Lords :::
Renjiamori’s pain was more than he could bear at times, but he bore it with as much dignity as he could. Life had only become that much more lonesome and that much more difficult since Vegeta and the Saiyans left for planet Earth.
After they left he spent many long days being interrogated by Frieza and his men but he never told. Frieza let him go at last and at first Renji thought that he left him alone because of his loyalty to Vegeta, thinking it might lead Vegeta to him, but he was wrong, Frieza always knew Vegeta would come back. Amori realized that he didn’t fear the Saiyan Prince in the least. The terror such a thought struck through him at the time was stifling.
How would Prince Vegeta ever destroy such a terrible foe? Amori tried to believe, but he couldn’t. There has to be another way.
Too many thoughts and emotions coursed through Renjiamori over the first few months after Vegeta’s escape. The men on the ship roared with laughter at him, though some pitied him, and those who feared him said nothing and only nodded as he walked by.
Today is no exception. Renji was set to go on a mission later on, and he awaited it eagerly, standing by the space station much sooner than he was expected. His skin crawled for a kill but in spite of all his anger and bloodthirst, he always questioned himself. He never felt truly satisfied with his lot. Was this how he was meant to be? A cold hearted killer? Was this the quality of person his kind once carried? Is everyone capable of such evil? Or is this something that was made of him? Did he truly revel in the power of taking another man’s life, or is it something else? Is it his own despair that drives him to actually enjoy these purges? Is he really enjoying it, or is he making up for his own losses?
Sometimes he didn’t know anymore.
“You’re early, again,” a voice came up from behind him.
Renji’s skin crawled and he turned his head slightly to Zarbon and replied, “I’ve nothing else to do. Frieza ought to spend some money on more pods then his precious missions wouldn’t have to wait.”
Zarbon chuckled at him and flipped his braid over his shoulder, “It seems to me that you’ve stepped into Prince Vegeta’s shoes since he left.” Amori stared at him, and wondered about that comparison as Zarbon added, “Funny, really, him leaving after Raditz like that. I’ll never understand it.”
“What do you mean?” Renji scowled at him.
A knowing gleam shone through his eyes and he said, “Well, after what Raditz did to him, it just doesn’t make sense.”
“What did Raditz do?” Amori asked, angry at not knowing what Zarbon was referring to.
“You don’t know?” Zarbon replied, delighting in this conversation. “Then Vegeta must not have wanted you to know about it.” A pod fell from the sky at that moment and a soldier exited it and headed for the healing chambers. Men immediately went to ready it for Amori. Zarbon chuckled more at him and said, “We’ll never understand those monkeys, will we?”
Amori lunged for him but he was struck down with the mighty force of Zarbon’s fist. He hit the ground, wondering what had just happened for a moment before he was hoisted up to a standing position. With his face close to Zarbon’s he heard the reptilian man say, “Don’t make the same mistake Vegeta did, by leaving Frieza’s army. You have it better than you know. Freiza spared your life, and he spared Vegeta’s when he left by not following after him, but he may not do the same for you. Freiza has his ways, and he will track Vegeta down in the end, and he will kill him. You’re both too weak to destroy Frieza, and you always will be.”
Amori laughed in his face, “You think you’re safe? Freiza will kill you, too, you’re not precious to him. Either thast or you may come to face Vegeta again, and I know how you all fear him. You might be surprised how quickly the tables can turn.”
Zarbon dropped him and he stood a little wobbly for a moment as he said, “You believe all those tales about ‘Super Saiyans,’ hm? Then you must believe all of Vegeta’s lies. You’re wasting your time, you know, he only cares about himself, like a true warrior. You will probably never see him again, and he’s probably forgotten all about you.”
Amori snarled, offended and disheartened and Zarbon added, “Be a good Prince and do what you’re told. Forget about Vegeta. It’s for your own good.”
The men who were preparing the space pod hollered for Renjiamori, and told him everything is a go for his mission. Amori turned his back to Zarbon and left without reply.
Hatred hardened him.
::: Curious-er and Curious-er :::
Gohan found Piccolo standing on the same large balcony where everyone had been gathered earlier. He asked him what he thought about the mess Vegeta’s past has gotten them into, again.
Piccolo’s voice was certain, but in his eyes Gohan could tell he was disturbed by some of the details as he said, “I think Goku knows more than he’s letting on.”
“You think that maybe he saw a vision he doesn’t want us to know about?” Gohan mused.
“Maybe,” Piccolo nodded, “I’m not sure.”
“What do you think about Renjiamori?” Gohan asked innocently.
Piccolo eyed him closely and answered, “I don’t know, yet. Goku seems to be at odds with him, I’ve never seen him act that way before, almost Saiyan. It’s strange; I think that something about his new powers is bringing out his more primal instincts.”
Gohan replied, “Or…”
“Or what?” Piccolo asked at his hesitance.
“Well,” Gohan laughed, “Maybe he’s just jealous…”
Piccolo frowned, “Goku’s better than that.”
“I don’t know, Piccolo,” Gohan smiled, “I think it’s more a reflection of how he feels about Vegeta than how he feels about Renjiamori.”
Piccolo snorted, “So you think he actually loves Vegeta?”
“Yeah,” Gohan said, “I do, actually. Didn’t you hear him? Come on, Piccolo, even you have to admit, they fit together, they need one another…”
Piccolo’s frown turned crooked as he said, “I didn’t know Saiyans needed anybody.”
Gohan smiled, “Sure they do. Where would I be if it weren’t for you, Piccolo?”
Piccolo couldn’t hide his blush. He gruffly replied, “You’re not full Saiyan, though, Gohan, and you were just a child back then.”
Gohan still smiled, finding Piccolo’s embarrassment funny and sweet. He said, “Vegeta loves him, too, you know. He told me so himself, in so many words.”
Startled by this, Piccolo asked, “Really?” but pretending to not be so interested. He added, “Why does it even matter?”
“Because my dad’s not thinking straight about Jeremel and if he can’t focus on the real battle, then how are they going to win?”
“Your dad’s got it all under control, kid,” Piccolo replied, confident in Goku, yet.
Gohan sighed and changed the subject, “I wonder if whatever Renjiamori said to my dad will do any good. They haven’t started fighting so that’s a good sign.”
Piccolo shrugged, “Meanwhile we’re all waiting here like ants, senseless to any attack that may come at any time. I just don’t see how it could be so important at a time like this.”
Gohan could think of nothing to say after that. He had faith in Renjiamori for some reason. Something about the older man was swaying him to believe his side every time they talked.
“Don’t get involved, Gohan.”
“What do you mean,” the young man asked innocently enough.
“Don’t make me say it…” Piccolo sneered in embarrassment. “I’ve seen the way you’ve been hanging around him- the way you look at him.”
Gohan blushed and denied everything, “It’s not like that. I’m just… curious about him, Piccolo. I don’t know how to explain it. He used to be with Vegeta, as a lover, doesn’t that make you want to get to know him even a little?”
Piccolo only said, “I can’t imagine he’ll be sticking around, Gohan. After this fight with Jeremel, if we win, he can’t just stay here.”
“His planet was blown up…”
Piccolo smirked, “So you’ve already thought about it? I thought you said it wasn’t like that?”
Gohan laughed nervously and said, “It’s not! I don’t even know him! I’m just saying it’s not such a farfetched idea…”
Piccolo’s voice grew stern and his face more serious as he offered his advice one more time, “For all you know, he has no intentions of staying at all. To my knowledge, his being here was an accident.”
But it must have been by some sort of fate, Gohan thought, because if he had been left on Nartal, he’d be dead.
Vegeta arrived quickly on the premises and Gohan and Piccolo’s conversation stopped at his swift entry to the balcony, which surprised them both. He walked straight up to both of them and said, “I know you were talking about me. I don’t care. I just want to know if you’ve come up with anything significant to say. Well?”
Piccolo didn’t say anything so Gohan answered, “Renjiamori hasn’t learned the sensing technique yet. It might take some time.”
After a few agonizing moments in silence Vegeta finally broke eye contact and began pacing slowly. When he spoke it was firm but quiet, and he said, “To say that Kakarot knows something that we do not is an understatement. I want you both to pay special attention to him and report to me anything you see or hear that is somewhat… abnormal.”
“You want us to spy on Goku?” Piccolo chuckled.
“No, fool, I want you to be like you normally are, friends, and pay attention to him!”
“How come, Vegeta? Can’t you just talk to him?” Gohan wondered.
“Just do as I say, boy,” Vegeta growled, but the venom in it came from a tiredness and frustration that meant what he said out of distress and not an actual threat.
“We’re all in this together, Vegeta,” Piccolo said, stepping forward, in front of Gohan, showing his protection over the young man, regardless if it’s needed. “Anything you may know I think we should know, too.”
Vegeta laughed at his gesture and, well, the entire situation. It sounded almost sinister, and he said, “Kakarot has all the information, now.” A frown quickly replaced the smirk on his lips and he added, “Believe me; I’m trying to consider all of our options. I just don’t think I’ve thought of everything, yet, and until we get more information out of Kakarot, we don’t have very much to go on.”
Piccolo and Gohan nodded at that but Piccolo found his behavior peculiar. He thinks Vegeta is more privy to the situation than he is letting on at the moment and he obviously doesn’t want them to know whatever he knows. Piccolo could only guess at what information he has as Trunks and Goten soon joined the group, thinking that there was a reason for the gathering and hoping to learn something. Their hopes were disappointed but only for a moment as suddenly Renji and Goku appeared before everyone.
Goku asked, his normal cheerfulness returning, “What’s up?”
“Planning has never been this group’s strong point,” Vegeta replied in a gruff voice, crossing his arms over his chest. “All we’re missing now is your little bald friend and it’ll be just like old times; everyone standing around, getting nothing accomplished.”
Goku laughed, he kind of agreed, so he said, “Vegeta, I do have an idea, but I’d like to talk it over with you in private.”
Vegeta smirked, “Goodie.”
They left quickly and the rest of the group tried to relax for a moment. Piccolo meditated and Trunks and Goten discussed the events while Gohan and Renjiamori went away again to go work on the ki sensing technique.
“So?” Vegeta asked, still looking as defensive as ever.
“Vegeta,” Goku began, “I can’t apologize enough-”
“Don’t, Kakarot, save your breath,” Vegeta interrupted him.
Fear gave way in Goku’s heart as he realized that Jeremel was back on Earth. “He’s here!” He cried, and a few moments later Vegeta could sense it, too. Another ki attack was being formed.
“Shit!” The prince yelled, “Kakarot!”
“I know!” Goku grabbed onto him and brought them to Renji and Gohan, where they all took off with instant transmission to the terrible man.
It was a scene so like the day before, except it was night time on their side of the Earth and the moon gleamed full and bright in the sky above them.
“Jeremel!” Renjiamori yelled and began gathering energy himself.
“Vegeta, fuse with me!” Goku offered out of desperation.
Vegeta seemed more reluctant than ever and refused, “I think it’s better if we both fight.”
“Vegeta!” Goku groaned, “There’s no time!”
Piccolo found his way to them and, determined to take on Jeremel this time, he flew in a beeline towards him, but he didn’t get very close before a stray beam of energy knocked him out of the sky. Gohan ran to him and made sure he was okay.
Vegeta launched at Jeremel himself and Goku flew after him, still trying to convince him to fuse. Jeremel’s laughter could be heard high in the sky as he waited for them to get closer. The energy blast was released, but instead of going to Vegeta and Goku, it started towards the ground, making the air around them dense and electrified.
Still, Goku and Vegeta rushed forwards, clashing into Jeremel in an all-out rumble of pummeling fists and furious kicks. Jeremel smirked as he dodged all of their attempts. He slapped Goku and Vegeta both a bit before he turned and tried to run out of sport but Trunks and Goten suddenly appeared before him as Gotenks, and he was startled into stopping.
“Look, Vegeta! The boys fused!” Goku pointed, proud of their sons, but fearful for them, too.
Vegeta spit, furious, and said, “I don’t want to share a body with you right now, Kakarot!”
Sweat beamed down Goku’s face and he wasn’t sure what to concentrate on more. He said, watching the fight wearily, “How can you hold a grudge against me at a time like this?!”
“This is beyond a grudge, Kakarot! There must be another way! I don’t need you.”
“Vegeta,” Goku frowned, “I need you.”
Vegeta stopped for a moment and looked into his eyes. Then a loud crash rang through the air as Gotenks was thrown around by Jeremel.
The evil bastard laughed as Gotenks hit the ground and didn’t get back up. He taunted their fathers, “Letting your sons battle for you, now! Just like your father, Vegeta! He let you be the puppet of Freiza’s army! He was a pawn, too, and you, Vegeta, you have always been just like him!”
Gohan rushed Jeremel, and punched him square in the face, knocking him sideways through the air. He struggled to regain control, but when he did there was great fury on his face and his attention was turned towards Gohan.
Vegeta would have replied in kind if it hadn’t been for Goku’s erratic behavior. One minute he was arguing with him, the next he was falling from the sky, unconscious. Vegeta caught him before he hit the ground and murmured, “You big idiot,” before taking off into the sky after Jeremel himself.
Piccolo and Gotenks went to thwart the attack that was approaching the Earth while Renjiamori was powering up (at least, that’s what they assumed he was doing,) and Vegeta watched as Gohan was being batted about with ease. He tried to wake Goku up, but couldn’t waste any more time so he went to Gohan’s aid just as he was flung from the sky.
Jeremel amused the Prince by allowing him to think he had the upper hand in a few of the punches thrown. He said, still dodging and playing the defensive, “You can’t defeat me and you know it! Why do you think I’m still alive! Why do you think I waited so long! While you’re up here, wasting my time, they’re all down there, about to be boiled alive! You’ve failed them.” Vegeta turned his focus for just a minute to the giant orb that was crushing his allies as they spoke. Jeremel took his momentary lapse in concentration as an invitation to strike him down, but Vegeta was weary of him and the attack didn’t make full contact, though it sent him soaring through the air.
Jeremel’s laughter could be heard from high above and he promptly disappeared leaving Vegeta angry and distraught. Gohan grabbed a hold of Vegeta, and begged that he help with the attack threatening to consume the Earth and to just let Jeremel go.
Vegeta nodded and agreed and went to Amori. The moment the two stood side by side, Vegeta helped urge Amori’s energy towards Goten and Trunks, who have since unfused, and Piccolo. The attack Amori charged up weakened the ball considerably while protecting the others, and with Gohan’s added strength, they were able to deflect this attack as well as the first. They all watched exhausted as it exited the atmosphere and Jeremel was nowhere to be found, again.
Renji turned to Vegeta, exhausted, he said, “I’ve been out of this business for so long. I’m not as quick as I used to be.”
“But you are more powerful,” Vegeta replied and Amori saw that he was frowning.
“You think he’s toying with us?” Amori asked.
“Yes.”
“But, why?”
“For the pleasure,” Vegeta answered shortly and then turned to find Kakarot.
So many visions went through Goku’s mind when he came to he was unsure of what was actually happening. He thought he saw Renjiamori… die. He wanted to throw up. His head wouldn’t stop spinning. His stomach churned and his heart ached. He could hear the rumbling of the battle around him, but he couldn’t make any sense of it. He couldn’t focus on it. He heard screaming, but there was no clear voice and no clear words in the sound. Then everything went quiet for a few moments as he opened his eyes. Jeremel is long gone and the Earth is safe for now. All he could see is the moon high above him and then everything went red. The pounding of his heart increased thirty-fold.
“Kakarot!” Vegeta cried as he got closer and realized what was happening. He saw how he began to grow in size and his hair thickened and began to cover his whole body.
“The moon!” Piccolo called out, as he came closer, “I’ll destroy it!”
“No!” Vegeta barked and ripped his shirt off, “Leave it!” He looked at the moon and felt his body begin to take over in transformation. “Go!” was the last thing he growled out that was coherent. Vegeta reveled in this feeling, this power he hasn’t felt in so long. He never thought he’d get this chance again, but now that he has it, he intends to use it. This could be opportunity to teach Kakarot how to control his Oozaru form. He didn’t care if they ended up fighting one another in the ignorance and immense supremacy of their more primal form.
Amori’s eyes lit up with fear, “You heard him! We must go! Fly!!”
Although reluctant to leave (out of curiosity and concern,) Piccolo gathered them all and they left in a hurry, taking one long glance behind them and silently wishing Vegeta good luck.
