~~~
Alright, here they are people: the gifts for this chapter, Angel Kai plushies! *gives out plushies* Well, enjoy!
~~~
Rumi-chan: Nah, it's ok if I don't get long reviews... as long as I get one... Sorry about your grandaunt, I hope this last chapter of the story makes you feel better.
LoneWolfStar7: Ooh, I'm gonna pity the people who have to clean up... real mess there, eh? Oh well... I guess schools, religious schools, separations because of school, and inanimate flying objects are all a part of life...
SoulSister: Thanks for your rave reviews... it's people like you that make it so hard for me to quit. (And my my other reviewers too! *glomps all reviewers*) Don't worry everyone, I'll continue churning out great chapters for your enjoyment.
Platinum Rei: Oh, don't worry. Kai isn't dead. He's just... umm... gone to Heaven. But I agree, what would a Kai/Rei fic be without Kai?
Sylph: Ooh, a sweet review from a new reviewer! Yeah, I don't like sad endings either... so that's why I'm doing a sequel to wrap everything up! Though I can't promise that everyone will be happy at the end of this series...
Blue Winged Angel: Heheh, is everyone getting tired of Volten already? Don't worry, just one more story, I promise. I didn't know I was so good... perhaps it's because I'm not skilled enough to developed super-complicated storylines that makes my story simpler (and good in its own way).
~~~
Leon: You know, you didn't have to get beat up just to save me... I could have just cast a spell to get myself out or something.
Trueangel: With your mouth taped up? Not a chance...
Leon: Well, I'm sure I could have found a way. After all, I am the resourceful Leon Geeste.
Trueangel: Mind your ego, Leon... OW! *winces*
Leon: Are you ok?
Trueangel: Yeah, juse ofe of the injuries acting up... why couldn't Tri-Ace give you some healing magic?
Leon: Guess I was already too good...
Trueangel: Leon...
Leon: Fine, fine... *curses Tri-Ace*
Trueangel: That's better.
Leon: You call cursing my creators 'better'?
Trueangel: Well, they were the ones who gave you your enormously huge ego.
Leon: Ok, you have a point.
Trueangel: Oh well, enjoy this epilogue... more info on the sequel at the end.
Epilogue The Phoenix's Gift
A young man of about 22 sat on the black leather sofa in the cold office. In front of him was a large mahogany littered with various papers, and behind that was a swivel chair. The door lay to his left. Absent-mindedly, the man started fingering with his ponytail. In his youth he had ankle-length raven hair, but since then he had been tamed and now kept the ponytail only as a reminder of that long hair. The man squirmed in his seat. Clearly he was out of place here. He would much rather be back in his artist's studio; the impersonal white walls were oppressing his creative urges. Taking a deep breath, he brought his attention to the items on the desk. Papers covered with words lay strewn about the surface, together with various stationery items. A family photo took centerstage, showing that the owner of the desk was attached to his or her family. But what caught the man's attention was a small crystal carving of an angel that was chucked to one side, forgotten. He picked it up, and cupped it carefully in his hands, as though it would shatter at the slightest touch. His gaze was fixed on its beauty, driving everything else out of his mind.
"Mr. Kon?"
Rei snapped his head around. At the door stood a middle-aged lady. A social worker. In her hand she held a young baby girl, currently asleep. Placing the angel back on the desk, Rei stood up and walked over.
"I'm sorry... I was distracted. Is this her?"
"Yes. The adoption procedure is complete, so you can bring her home today."
Rei took the baby from the lady.
"She's beautiful."
"Indeed... she's an angel."
"An angel... yes..."
"Although something still strikes me as odd. It seems as though she was meant just for you."
Rei raised an amused eyebrow and looked at the lady with weary eyes. His casual clothes and tired look masked the fact that he was actually a multi-millionaire. Voltaire, though ruthless, had been a rich person after all. When he died, he hadn't made a will, so all the money went to his only relative, Kai. Kai had settled all the inheritance before leaving for China, but he left all the money in a Swiss bank and never touched it. He would rather die than take anything from Voltaire. After he mysteriously disappeared, the money was almost taken back by the government since Kai left no will and he had no relatives, but a few days later a piece of paper suddenly appeared stating that all of Kai's assets were to go to Rei. Rei too was adamant about using the money, but occasionally he couldn't help but splurge on himself. Rei had no doubt that Kai was still taking care of him in Heaven, but was it possible, giving a baby to Rei?
"What do you mean?"
"Well, we found the baby at our doorstep the day before you came and asked to adopt a baby. After some tests, we found out that she was just born the day before. 5th October."
5th October? It sounded familiar... suddenly it dawned on him. It was also Kai's birthday.
"Moreover, there was also a card in the baby's hand."
"Can I look at the card?"
"Sure, I've got it somewhere here..." The woman walked over to her desk and pulled a small card out of a drawer. She handed it to Rei. There, on the card, were the two words "To Rei". Below that was a small drawing of a phoenix.
"Mr. Kon? You can name the baby."
"Phoenix... Phoenix Kon."
"It's a nice name."
"Definitely."
(Friend, you'll always have my best wishes)
Don't ask, don't say anything, everything is in the silence
Let us spend this moment quietly, around the candle light
Don't wave your hand, don't turn back, when I sing this song
The only thing I'm afraid of is my tears falling gently
I hope that your heart will always remember my smile
To accompany you throughout the seasons
Countless grievances and troubles, life will always have bitterness and pain
Only when we lose something, will we truly know how to cherish it
Relationships and people are hard to keep, now we each go our separate ways
Ups and downs, everything remains in our hearts
I hope that your heart will always remember my smile
To accompany you throughout the seasons
Parting hurts, though parting is just before us
Say goodbye, but it won't be for forever
If we are fated, then we can look forward to tomorrow
You and I meeting again in a magnificent season
Leon: That was 'Zhu Fu' by Jacky Cheung... a Mandarin song.
Trueangel: Yup. Alright, I've got the usual people to thank, same as for "Angel and Devil" with the addition of Leon. But seeing as I will be doing a sequel, I'll put the list of names right at the end.
Leon: You're doing a sequel? Great!
Trueangel: Yeah... as usual, here's a little info to whet your appetite. But I'm warning you, there will be A LOT of character deaths. Oh well... until next time, goodbye.
