WARNINGS: some angst, illness…don’t know if that’s a warning, but there it is
A/N: I guess I should’ve mentioned this from the beginning, but don’t expect any of these Gods to be similar to Greek mythology. Even though they may have the same title, it doesn’t mean that they have the same story…except for maybe one. I’ve made them up in my own way. Sorry if there was any confusion.
Another week passes…
Kakarot yawned and stretched then sat up in bed. He sighed at how boring and mundane his days have been without Vegeta. He almost couldn’t remember what he did before to pass the time. Oh right…he drank and slept. Well, it’s about time he didn’t make a habit of doing both. He stood and went to the window to see what time it was, only to scrunch his face at the sky. Wow, it looked like it was almost dark out. Was it cloudy? Maybe the sun has yet to come up. His expression turned to confusion as he felt the state he was in. Nah, he felt like he got plenty of rest and he went to bed around the same time as usual. Suddenly, a feeling of shock and realization hit him when he saw where the sun was, below the horizon with the clouds hovering above. No…no that can’t be. The sun sets over there and…rises-. It finally dawned on him that he’d slept the entire day. “What?!” He asked and exclaimed to no one as he stepped away from the window. “Wha-What is wrong with me?” Why was he tired all the time? Was it because he wasn’t eating enough? Now that he thought about it, he couldn’t remember the last time he ate. Why wasn’t he hungry? Maybe he was a little, but he’s usually starving by the time he wakes, especially if he slept the whole day.
Kakarot took a deep breath and let it out. Maybe he’ll do some exploring for the next week and travel. Sitting around all day can’t be good for him and may be the cause of his fatigue and reduced appetite. Vegeta should be able to find him when He comes back, but he should leave a note just in case. With a plan in mind, he started to get around. However, as soon as he did, a sudden wave of fatigue hit him again. He stopped what he was doing and sat down on the bed. He held a hand to his face and tried wiping the sleep off of it then yawned. He looked out the window again and sighed. “Maybe I should sleep a little more before I go. After all, no need to travel when it’s dark.” He said to himself as he lied back down on the bed and promptly went back to sleep.

Vegeta let loose a shout of agony when He was, once again, pierced by an arrow. He growled in annoyance and set fire to the fleet of archers with His gaze alone. He sighed as He pulled out the arrow and crushed it in His fist. He turned His gaze towards the horizon and saw nothing but destruction. The land was charred from fires that He and the humans’ started, some of them were still burning. Bodies practically littered every inch of the land, but no one mourned their deaths as warriors continued to fight for not only their life, but their families and country. Vegeta tsked at the thought. They risk their own lives to fight in a battle so pointless, He was sure that Broly, the God of Chaos, was righteously laughing at their foolishness.
The being of war looked around the land that he helped destroy and nodded to himself. Well, it looks like things are starting to get back under control. He closed His eyes and took a deep breath, inhaling the smell of smoke, charred flesh, and blood…the smell of battle. He felt the courage, adrenaline, and fear spark through the warriors that were currently winning. Yes. Those warriors will have their victory. Hell, He was certain they didn’t even need His help, but joined in anyway. After all, what’s the point of having all this power if He can’t use it? He let out the breath He was holding and opened His eyes to take in the scenery once again. The fires on the land reflected in His eyes as He did so. “You’re smirking.” Vegeta was startled slightly when He turned to His right to see Piccolo, the God of Thieves. He was a messenger for the creator and the others who may need Him, so He moved very fast. He was also a guide for the dead and moved freely between the divine and mortal planes. Piccolo smirked in return when He saw the look of surprise on His brother’s face.
“What are You doing here, Piccolo?” Vegeta gave the messenger His full attention. Sure He guided the souls, so in that case, He should be on a divine plane rather than the mortal one right now.
Piccolo turned His attention to the charred land laid before Him and crossed His arms. “You sure did make a mess. I’ve been transporting souls for months now.” He turned back to Vegeta. “I was hoping You’d give me a break.” He stated with a frown.
Vegeta returned the look. “Isn’t that what You’re supposed to be doing right now?”
Piccolo walked up to Vegeta in a nonchalant manner. “Oh, let them stay in limbo for a little while. I bring a message.” He ended with a little smirk.
Vegeta raised a brow. “And what message is that?”
That smirk widened. “Our beloved creator says that You should return to Your human. He’s in bad shape.”
Vegeta’s expression turned to shock and worry. “What?! What happened?!” He took a couple steps closer in His eagerness to know more.
Piccolo shrugged. “Not sure, but if You don’t hurry, I’m probably going to have to take him with me.” He replied in a light tone as the smirk stayed. Vegeta growled loudly in His face as fire burst around His form then took to the sky. Piccolo watched Him as that smirk stayed on His face. “Quit fooling Yourself, Vegeta. You know as well as I that I’m going to be sending him to the souls of the blessed. You’ll always be alone.”
“Thank You, Piccolo for sending the message. Now, I believe You have work to do.” The voice boomed cruelly in His head. Piccolo’s smirk quickly turned to a frown as He sneered at all the dead bodies that covered the land then instantly disappeared.

No, no, no, no, no, no, no, no! Please Kakarot! Don’t you leave me too! I won’t…I can’t…lose you. He was practically out of breath by the time He made it back to the castle. However, He didn’t slow down as He made His way up the stairs and to the room He and Kakarot shared. As soon as He burst through the door, He sighed in relief when He saw him asleep in bed, safe and sound. He almost laughed in His relief as He dropped Himself right at Kakarot’s side and buried His hand in that wonderful mane of hair. He looked at that peaceful cherubic face and couldn’t help but smile. He leaned down and kissed a pale forehead, almost too pale, then whispered in His love’s ear. “Kakarot, I’m back.” Vegeta shook His head with a smile when He didn’t get a response. He kept forgetting how much of a heavy sleeper His beloved was. So He spoke a little louder. “Come on, Kakarot. Wake up. I’m here.” He pouted when that didn’t work, so He moved in and placed His lips on cooler ones, which wasn’t odd since He was warmer than the average human. Again, no response. His pout turned into a scowl when He moved in again and ravenously kissed His beloved again. After a few moments, He finally got a response as Kakarot slowly responded to the kiss. This continued for a couple moments more until Vegeta finally pulled away. “Hello, darling.” Vegeta smiled.
Kakarot lifted his arm weakly to touch the handsome face above him. “Vegeta? You’re back.” He said hoarsely with a weak smile.
Vegeta frowned at this. “Kakarot, are you feeling alright? You don’t sound very good.”
The smile faded. “I haven’t been feeling very well for the past few weeks. I fear I may be ill.”
Vegeta’s face immediately screamed worry. “Is there anything I can do for you? I should bring you some more food.” Just when He said that, He noted His love’s form and how skinny he was. “Kakarot…when was the last time you’ve eaten?”
Kakarot shook his head weakly. “I don’t know. Probably a few days.” He responded quietly.
Vegeta jumped back at that. “What?!” There was a moment of morbid silence as Vegeta’s thoughts raced through Him. How could He have been so careless as to leave him for so long! His beloved needed Him all this time and He wasn’t even here! If His mate would’ve died, it would’ve been His fault! No. He won’t let it happen again. Now feeling panicked, Vegeta looked down at the water bowl beside Him which looked like it hadn’t been touched for days then quickly left to fill it up with cleaner water and returned. “Here, Kakarot. Drink some of this. This should help with the hunger for a little bit until I return with food, okay? Lots and lots of food.” Vegeta muttered to himself as He agonizingly watched while Kakarot drank from the ladle that He provided to him. Kakarot seemed to drink what he could then shook his head, saying he didn’t want anymore. Vegeta panicked. “Kakarot you have to drink! You haven’t drunk anything in days! I can tell!”
Kakarot whimpered with a roll of his head. “No, please. I don’t want anymore and I’m not hungry. I just want to sleep.” He swallowed the lump in his throat as he tried fighting back the tears that threatened to show. Vegeta wasn’t the only one feeling afraid. Neither of them knew what was wrong with him. All he knew was that he felt really weak and a little sick to his stomach.
“Don’t be crazy, Kakarot. You must eat to get your strength back. I’ll be right back, okay?” Vegeta stood to leave. “And drink some more water!” He demanded on His way out and shouted as an afterthought, “And stay awake!”
Kakarot groaned in his misery as he eyed the water bowl sitting next to the bed. He tried sitting up so he could take another sip of water, but his body wasn’t having it so he stayed in his position until Vegeta got back.
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
After a few days of nursing His fated one back to health, well sort of, Vegeta tried getting him to move around so he wasn’t lying in bed all day. “Come on, Kakarot. You’ll get bed sores if you stay in bed all the time. Let’s go for a little walk.” Vegeta urged as He helped Kakarot into a sitting position.
Kakarot groaned in his discomfort at being moved. He hasn’t moved in days, so he complied with Vegeta’s words. “Okay, Vegeta. Just a short one though.”
“Right.” Vegeta agreed while He guided Kakarot’s arm over His shoulder and held it so He may help him to his feet.
Kakarot groaned with much effort as he pulled himself to his feet while holding onto Vegeta. He would’ve toppled over if he wasn’t. Vegeta grabbed a hold of his waist to keep a better hold on him as they proceeded to leave the room. They slowly took it one step at a time, each step seeming harder than the last. When they made it outside the room, Kakarot had to take a rest and sat in a chair in the hall. He panted at the small exertion that he hadn’t done in weeks. Vegeta kneeled in front of him and held his hands. “Are you alright?”
Kakarot nodded weakly, but then suddenly started feeling light headed and the room started spinning. He leaned back in his seat and stared up at the ceiling, waiting for it to stop spinning. “No.”
Vegeta gripped his hands tighter. “What can I do?” He asked helplessly as He looked up at Kakarot with some hope.
Kakarot thought for a moment as his eyelids drooped. “Don’t worry.”
Vegeta looked at the other’s hands sadly. “I don’t think I can do that. I need something simpler than that.”
Kakarot closed his eyes for a few minutes then opened them when his breathing finally calmed and the room began to slow down. “What happened to You?”
Vegeta’s expression fell at the question, but answered it nonetheless. “I went to help the winning side of the-“
“That’s not what I meant.” Kakarot cut Him off weakly.
The God gave him a sullen look. “Then what did you mean?”
Kakarot lifted his head to look his lover in the eye. “You look like You’ve been through hell and back. I want to know what happened to You.” It never occurred to Vegeta what His appearance may look like. He looked down at Himself only to realize that the clothes that He’s been wearing for the past few days are no longer looking new and clean, but filthy and blackened with holes and tears in them. “Your hair looks like it’s been singed and Your face is dirty.” Kakarot pointed out bluntly. He gripped His hands in his weak grip when the other looked away. “Tell me.” He pleaded.
Vegeta sighed, knowing He’d lose the fight anyway and looked back at their hands. “It’s nothing really. I was just caught in the crossfire a few times and some thought I was their enemy, so I was shot with arrows. Others tried to burn me, so I burned them back. It’s nothing. I’m fine.”
Kakarot sighed. As much as the God’s well-being mattered to him, he wasn’t doing much by nitpicking about every little thing about Him. Just wasting his breath. “Okay. I’m ready to walk again.” He stated as Vegeta instantly stood and brought up his hands to help him up. He wrapped His arm around Kakarot’s waist again then slowly, but steadily walked over to the stairs. When they reached them, Kakarot was out of breath again. “Stop. Let me stand…on my own.” He panted out as he grabbed the top of the banister with both hands. Vegeta held his waist with both hands in case he fell.
“Perhaps that’s enough for today. We can walk a little more tomorrow if you’re feeling up to it.” Vegeta suggested, the worry never leaving His face.
Kakarot shook his head. “No. Just let me…stand.”
Vegeta hesitated, “Okay,” then cautiously let go and waited a minute to see if he’d stand on his own before removing His hands completely. He went over to lean on the banister next to Kakarot. “Are you thirsty?” Kakarot shook his head. Vegeta thought for a moment. “Hungry?” Kakarot shook his head again. “Want to sit-“
“I’m fine Vegeta!! Stop worrying over me like a mother! I can take care of myself!” He couldn’t take it anymore. Vegeta’s incessant worrying was suffocating him and he couldn’t stand the thought of being so weak. However, he knew he shouldn’t have said what he did. Vegeta was just trying to help.
Vegeta narrowed His eyes. “If you can take care of yourself then why are you so ill? Why haven’t you eaten? Why don’t you drink anything for that matter! All you do is lay in bed all day and sleep! You have to eat to get better Kakarot!” He shouted out all His frustrations at His beloved. The worry and fear finally getting to Him.
“Oh what do You know Vegeta! You’re not human and You never will be! I’m so sick to my stomach that the mere thought of food makes me want to gag and I’m afraid if I get anything in my stomach, I’ll throw up! Which is why I don’t want to drink anything! Of course I have to stay in bed all day because I don’t have the strength to do anything else!”
The second sentence stung the God. “You’re right, Kakarot. I’m NOT human! Which is why I’m trying to understand your predicament! Do you have a fever? Are you feeling any pain? Where would you like me to bury you?! These are things I need to know Kakarot!”
Kakarot growled. “Now You’re just being ridiculous! If You can’t help me, then there’s no reason for You to be here! Why did You come back, anyway?”
Vegeta looked hurt. “Don’t say that Kakarot. I came back because I care about you and I was worried.”
For some reason, Kakarot looked offended. “Oh, NOW You care?! You leave me here for weeks and I almost went off and-“ Kakarot stopped when he suddenly felt faint. His eyes attempted to roll back into his head as his body went lax then leaned to the side, down the stairs.
“KAKAROT!” Vegeta shouted as He attempted to reach for His beloved, but missed when he hit the first step. The God flinched at the sound of something snapping then let out a cry when He heard a louder snap and quickly ran after him just before He heard a third snap when Kakarot hit the floor at the base of the stairs. “Kakarot!” He ran to Kakarot’s side and fell to His knees to see if he was alright. “Kakarot?!” Vegeta panicked when He noticed that Kakarot’s arm and leg were at odd angles. He panicked even more when He could only guess where He heard the third snap. “Kakarot!” The God shook him lightly as He begged for His beloved to wake up. He sighed in slight relief when He heard Kakarot whimper in pain, but that relief was short lived when he screamed. “Kakarot don’t move! Your arm and leg are broken, but I don’t know where the other break is!” He continued in His panicked tone.
Kakarot cried out when he did the opposite of what Vegeta said. “R-Ri-ght h-her-e.” He moved the arm that wasn’t broken to his ribcage.
Vegeta looked like He wanted to fix the break somehow and went to touch it, but stopped when He realized He shouldn’t. “Oh damn it. You have a broken rib.” He suddenly looked around Himself as if searching for something. “Kakarot don’t move. I’ll be right back.” He stated a little more calmly before He left. Not long after, He came back with some flat pieces of wood and some cloth. “I’m going to make a splint for your leg and arm. I’m not sure what to do with the rib, but I’ll bandage it as much as I can. This…may hurt.” His voice broke when He took in the current situation. He’s burned countless people, gutted them, even exploding them alive, but this…this was a whole new terror. He was right there! He was right there when he fell! He caught him when he fell off a mountain but not when he fell down the stairs?! What kind of protector was He?! The truth was, He wasn’t. He was a destroyer and that was all He was good for. He’s only fooling Himself if He thought that He could ever be happy. Still, it’s not like He has a choice. Maybe seeing His fated ones die one after the other is His punishment for being what He was. Maybe…this was His fate…their fate for being chosen. He couldn’t help it. The golden tears fell as He went to straighten His beloved’s limbs so He could put on the splints. They fell even more when He heard the tormented cries. Oh please no. He was torturing him by trying to save him. Why? Why did He always make things worse when He tried to make them better? His good efforts never did seem to work.
Thankfully, Kakarot passed out from the pain only a few moments after. Vegeta kept cursing Himself as He continued to dress the other’s injuries. Damn it. How did this happen? Was Kakarot simply too weak that he couldn’t stand anymore? Was he too tired? He should’ve brought him back to bed, but he was so insistent. He figured he knew what he was doing, but apparently He can’t trust him by his own judgment. What really unnerved Vegeta was why his bones broke every time he hit the stairs? Was he really so fragile that he apparently broke his arm and leg in several places and a couple ribs? The more Vegeta thought, the more worried He got. What if…what if he has the same illness as his grandfather? Is it hereditary? Ever so gently, Vegeta bent down and carefully lifted Kakarot in His arms then slowly made His way back up the stairs and just as carefully laid him in bed. Now what?
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
Oh my. Poor Kakarot. :/ What’s wrong with him? Is Vegeta’s theory correct? Guess we’ll find out in the next chapter, which will be posted tomorrow. So don’t worry, you guys don’t have to wait 5 months for another update. ^^;
