Chapter
16
This
chapter came as a surprise when I wrote it, but it turned out to be a bonus in
the long run
----------------------------------------------------------------
It
had been yet another morning hanging over the toilet bowl, and breakfast had not
done anything to help matters. Ray had volunteered himself to do the dishes but
Tala and Kai had literally dragged him back to the bedroom before he could catch
his breath, only for Ray to escape again a few hours later.
Now
he sat in the kitchen, body trembling as his mind buzzed with an almost
dizziness, spots playing across his vision. He was getting worse, and if he
continued to do so Bryan just might end up having to catch him as he collapsed.
Not that those other two would care. Ray scowled. No, Tala would probably take
advantage of the situation while Kai looked on and laughed before-
What
was that?
Ray
frowned, raising his head and focussing, ear to the wind. Yes, there it was
again, barely audible. Pushing himself to his feet he followed the sound to the
side door, opening it and stepping into the garage.
“Why
hello.” Ray stepped toward the garage doorway, smiling down. “Did you get
trapped in here yesterday, did you? Well we can’t have that, now can we?”
Hitting
the button the shed door rose, the cat tearing outside with her two kittens
following her, Ray knowing that she was probably one of the strays he had seen
around. He watched as she disappeared around the corner and out of sight before
he turned around-
“Eh…
hi.”
It
didn’t move, content with simply sitting and looking up at him, wide eyes
unblinking as its small tail flicked. Ray moved closer and knelt, the kitten not
moving as it watched him, as if it were waiting. Reaching out hesitantly Ray
stroked its fur, receiving a broken unpractised purr in reply, bringing a smile
to his lips.
“Decided
to stay, did you? Not sure if that’s a good thing or not, my friend. Once you
come into this house it can be really hard to get out again.” The gold and
grey tabby purred, rubbing against him. “Are you hungry? How about we find you
something to eat.”
The
kitten allowed him to pick it up, Ray holding it against him and quickly
checking its sex before he stepped into the flat. Making his way to the kitchen
he found Tala looking around, turning toward him as he heard Ray enter.
“Ah,
there you are. I was just thinking you had gone… is that what I think it
is?”
“If
you think it’s a kitten, yes.” Ray made his way passed him, finding a low
bowl and pouring some milk into it before setting it on the floor. Putting the
kitten down, he and Tala watched as it made its way toward the bowl, sniffing
the milk before tasting it. Satisfied, it began to lap contently.
“Intelligent
little thing.” Tala moved closer, kneeling beside Ray. “Where’d you find
it?”
“I
found him in the garage. His mother and his two siblings left as soon as I
opened the door but he hung back. It’s almost like he’s chosen me.”
“He?
You’re sure that’s what it is?”
“Yeah.
I checked just before in case someone asked.”
“Oh.”
Tala’s blue eyes lifted at the sound of the light footstep, eyes falling upon
the other as he entered. “Kai.”
Kai’s
crimson gazed moved over them before it found the animal, eyes narrowing. “And
what is that doing here?”
“Ray
found it.” Tala smiled, eyes wide and innocent as he battered his eyelashes.
“Can he keep it? Pweeeeease.”
“Knock
it off.” Kai shook his head and rolled his eyes. “Fine, I have no
objections. But I doubt Bryan is going to be thrilled about this.”
“If
he causes any trouble, I’ll deal with him.” Tala smirked, gaze sweeping
toward Ray. “I think it’s a good idea too. So Ray, got a name for him
yet?”
Ray
thought for a moment, then smiled. “I think I’ll call him Chung Hu. It means
‘Intelligent Tiger’.”
“Fitting.
Oh, it would appear little Chung Hu is finished.” Tala smiled, reaching out to
pat the kitten who backed away quickly, moving closer to Ray. “Hey, I’m not
going to hurt you.”
Ray
frowned down at the tabby as Kai came forward, the kitten’s fur standing on
end as it planted itself, ready for the fight. “I uh… don’t think he likes
you, guys. Probably cause this is a new environment and all. He’ll get used to
it.”
Tala
frowned. “Odd. So how come he took to you so fast?”
“Ray’s
neko-jin,” Kai reminded the youngest of the Russians. “Chung Hu can probably
sensed the feline within Ray and therefore feels at ease with him. Like Ray
said, once he gets used to the place he’ll get used to us, but until then
we’ll just have to take it slow, so no scaring the fluffball.”
“So
much for all my prank ideas, but you’re right, it’s the neko-jin thing.”
Tala stood, stretching and smiling. “Oh Ray… it’s your turn on top…”
Ray
looked up, frowning. “Come on guys, we’ve been at it all morning. Besides, I
need to keep an eye on Chung Hu.”
“Just
put him in the laundry for now with some food.” Tala raised an eyebrow. “And
you can never get sick of sex. Ever.”
Ray
sighed, shooting an apologetic look toward Chung Hu before picking the kitten
up. No matter what he said or did, Tala and Kai always had the answer. There was
just no way of escaping, and no place to go if he did…

Chung
Hu is the bonus. ^_~
