The next morning, Vegeta woke up in confusion, then after looking around for a moment, he realized where he was. He missed his samurai already and it’s only been a day. He wanted to confront him of the information that he found out and perhaps talk him into returning to his previous life. Then, perhaps they can be together. He had to tell his parents that Kakarot was alive and eventually break the news to his Master; if Lord Akuto didn’t tell him himself. Though, Vegeta couldn’t help but think that there was something amiss with Kakarot’s uncle. Something about the assassins and their story doesn’t add up.
However, the young noble dismissed the idea for now and made his way to the dining hall. He didn’t know what time of day it was. Perhaps they already ate breakfast without him? His silent questions were answered when he arrived at the hall. It was empty. He sighed as he looked at the enormous bare table. A guard that stood nearby approached him and bowed. “Sire. Lord Akuto and Lord Koga are in the study room and have eaten already. Do you wish for me to prepare you something?”
Vegeta narrowed his eyes at the guard before answering. “No, that’s alright. Just show me where they are.” He removed his eyes once the guard stood.
“Of course, Sire.” The guard turned and made his way toward his Lord’s study room.
Once there, both were talking about the arrangements for the ceremony…arrangements that Vegeta thought that Lord Koga and his father already covered. “Why…good afternoon, Vegeta.” Lord Akuto paused in his greeting once he noticed the time. Vegeta grunted in response and Lord Akuto smirked. “We were just going over some of the arrangements of your ceremony. Would you mind hearing them?” He turned his attention to Lord Koga who smiled as well.
Vegeta froze at the question. He gets another choice? The young noble looked at the two skeptically. What were they planning? “Certainly.” He made himself comfortable and waited for them to explain.
“Well, with all that has happened lately, we decided to push back the date of the ceremony.” Vegeta perked up at the news as his Master explained himself. Maybe having Lord Akuto help out with the ceremony wasn’t so bad after all. “Yes. We decided to have it in the middle of next month. That should give us enough time to make up for the time we lost.”
Vegeta held back a sigh of relief at the news, but couldn’t help but think what his father might say to this. “What about my father? Will he still be a part of helping out with the ceremony? I think it’s only fair that he should be a part of it too.” He couldn’t believe he was standing up for his father. Especially with him dealing with the ceremony.
Lord Koga and Akuto exchanged glances before answering. “Well, you’re right, Vegeta. But, Hokoru and I weren’t getting much done. After all, we have nothing in common and therefore couldn’t agree much on anything.”
Vegeta expressed a look of understanding. “True, but you and Lord Akuto do?”
Lord Koga nodded. “Much more than your father and I. We practically have everything planned out already. All we have to do now is get it all together and hopefully do something about that samurai. That’s just a disaster waiting to happen…” Vegeta was no longer listening as he turned his attention away from his Master. Not only was he not a part of the ceremonial plans, but his father wasn’t as well. Won’t he be surprised. Maybe now he’ll know what it’s like to be in his son’s position. “Oh, have you had anything to eat Vegeta?” Lord Koga brought him out of his thoughts for the time being. He shook his head. “Well, then. We should get you something before we all leave.” He loved to use the word ‘we,’ didn’t he? Both of the Lord’s stood as they proceeded to leave the room.
Vegeta followed suite, however, he couldn’t help but think there was another meaning in what his Master said. “What do you mean, ‘we all?’”
Lord Koga paused in his step. “Oh, right! Lord Akuto shall be accompanying us back to Edo. He wishes to stay until the celebrations of the ceremony.” He smiled in his excitement.
“He’s…coming back…with us?” Vegeta tried not to grit his teeth in his fury. This is the very man who’s been after his samurai. How will he react when he tells him that he’s coming to Edo? In fact, this makes things much more difficult since Kakarot is still in Edo and hasn’t left. Since Lord Akuto, the leader of the Doumei clan, is coming to stay with them for a while, his assassins will surely follow. No, no. There will be too many eyes. They’ll find out where he is! And once they do, they’ll find out that he’s been lying…wait. Since he just found out who Kakarot really is, maybe he can convince his parents and his Master that he doesn’t mean any harm. Or better yet…no…he mustn’t get his hopes up. He has to bring about this gently, not quickly. Otherwise, they will see through his lies. “Why can’t he visit the day ‘of’ the ceremony? It seems pointless, if not rude, to suddenly include him in the plans of the ceremony and exclude my father. In fact, why can’t you take the information you have with you and tell my father? Then, you both can get things together just as quickly.” He didn’t mean to sound rude, but he had to try and push the man away…whatever it takes. Even if he is just trying to get his nephew back. He can’t trust this man yet.
Lord Koga looked at his future son-in-law in shock. “Vegeta, are you trying to push away Lord Akuto, who’s had little time to see his long time friends and finally has the chance to help them out? Not to mention he’s doing this for you and Ookami-”
“That’s not what I meant, Master.” He had to interrupt, otherwise, his Master would’ve went on all day. “I merely think it’s too dangerous for him to get too close to the enemy. What if the samurai sneaks past the guards and-” What was he doing? He has to break the news to his Master sometime soon. Why is he making it worse? “Master, there’s something I…” He trailed off once he glanced at Lord Akuto and suddenly got nervous. Should he tell him or should Lord Akuto? Is it even his place to tell someone such a thing? Is this even…the right time to tell him? Maybe he should think about this a little more before blurting it out. He might make a mistake. Well, this is an awkward position. He began to fidget in place as he struggled to think of something to say.
“I think what Vegeta is trying to say is that he’s a bit uncomfortable with me coming along. I mean, after all, it is short notice. Not to mention it’s bad timing for you and his parents.” Lord Akuto defended as he looked to his friend to see if he understood.
Lord Koga studied his pupil for a moment before answering. “Yes, I suppose you’re right. But, the Hokorus will be so pleased to see you after such a long time and he has one of his burdens off his chest, once I tell him the news.”
“Precisely. Which is why we should be on our way.” Lord Akuto declared, not leaving any room for second thoughts as he left their presence.
Lord Koga was about to respond when he left, but decided to voice it to his pupil instead. “Shouldn’t you eat first?” Concern graced his features.
Vegeta growled. “No. The sooner we get there the better.” And left to get around as well.
Lord Koga watched Vegeta’s back and sighed. “Oh, dear.”

When they returned to Edo with a new visitor, said visitor tried to keep him from leaving. “Vegeta, why don’t you accompany me to visit with Ookami? That way, we can tell him of our plans for the ceremony.” Lord Akuto smiled and Vegeta swore it was smug.
“No thanks. I must return home and-”
“Vegeta, go ahead and accompany him. I need to tell your father of the change of plans and Ookami hasn’t seen you in a while.” Lord Koga ordered as he absentmindedly went through some papers in his hand.
Vegeta sighed in annoyance. “Master, I can tell my father-”
“Vegeta.” Lord Koga said in a warning tone as he looked up from what he was doing to give him a pointed stare.
Vegeta grumbled and left the study, Lord Akuto followed. They stopped near the front entrance as Vegeta had his inner tantrum. Lord Akuto hid a smirk at the steaming noble. Vegeta looked to the Lord as if just noticing that he was being followed, then vaguely looked around himself. “I don’t know where Ookami could be. Our best chance is to wait here and-”
He was interrupted, once again, by his fiancé. “Vegeta! You’ve returned!” He was embraced and Vegeta made a little effort to embrace him back in front of the Lord.
He pulled back and coughed to hide a blush. “Uh, yes. Ookami, this is Lord Akuto. He’ll be staying with you until the day after the ceremony. He will also be helping out with the preparations in the meantime.” He gestured toward the older noble as Ookami studied the man.
“I see. It has been awhile, Lord Akuto.” Ookami bowed in greeting.
Lord Akuto smirked at the young noble and responded. “It’s been ‘quite’ a while, Ookami. My, you have grown a lot since I last saw you.”
Vegeta rolled his eyes and tried not to gag at the too-pleasant scene. Ookami stood from his position. “So, you’ll be helping out with the preparations then?”
Lord Akuto nodded. “Yes. Your father and I have decided to push back the ceremony at a later date. After all that’s been going on lately, it seems appropriate.”
Ookami narrowed his eyes at the news. “Oh, really?” He looked to his fiancé and turned back to the Lord. “What a pity. And here I was so looking forward for us to finally be together.” He wrapped an arm around Vegeta’s waist and pulled him to his side.
Vegeta tried not to show his disgust at the closeness and didn’t look the Lord in the eye. Lord Akuto couldn’t help but smile at the duo. They acted more like siblings than lovers. “I understand, but we want to get this samurai taken care of before he decides to do something drastic. We wouldn’t want the ceremony to be interrupted, do we?”
Ookami didn’t have to think about it. “No, of course not.”
A moment of awkward silence passed before Vegeta decided to get out of there. “Lord Akuto. Why don’t you tell Ookami of the plans for the ceremony while I return home? After all, I’m sure father would like to know how the visit turned out and I should probably calm him after he hears the news from Ma-…Lord Koga.” Vegeta didn’t know what he should be calling his Master at this point. For now, he didn’t really care. He wanted to leave so that he can tell his father of what he found out.
Lord Akuto nodded. “Yes, that’s fine. Tell your father I said hello and that I’ll be seeing him soon.” Vegeta was a little put off by the smirk on the Lord’s face, but ignored it as he took this opportunity to flee.
Ookami and Lord Akuto watched the young noble leave as Ookami asked in a low voice. “Does he know?”
Lord Akuto frowned. “Yes, but only as much as his parents.”
Ookami turned a surprised look to the Lord. “He knows too much already! Surely he’s pieced it together by now!”
Lord Akuto shook his head. “No, I don’t think he has. I believe he suspects something, but perhaps…we should leave it at that. In the meantime, we shall come up with something to ease his troubled mind and perhaps he won’t know the truth.”
Ookami didn’t seem too pleased about the plan, but went along with it…for now.

When Vegeta made it home, he immediately rushed into his father’s study, where the man always was. “Father! There’s something you must know!” He shoved the guard out the door and closed it, then turned his attention to the man in front of him.
Lord Hokoru looked up from his work in surprise. “Vegeta? What’s wrong? Did something happen to Lord Akuto?”
Vegeta quickly closed the gap between him and his father’s desk before answering. “No…well, sort of.” His father stood as he held up a hand. “Calm down. No one’s hurt…yet.”
Lord Hokoru remained standing. “Well, what is it?”
“Do you remember about the samurai that was wanted here not long ago?” He kept his voice down in case anybody heard.
His father nodded. “Yes.”
“And do you remember about the little boy that you told me about? Kakarot?” He asked more urgently.
“Yes. Vegeta, what’s this about?” His father was starting to panic.
“The samurai is Kakarot!” Vegeta kept his voice down, but in a more urgent tone.
Lord Hokoru seemed confused. “What?”
“Kakarot’s alive! He’s the samurai that Lord Akuto’s after! But, what I want to know is why he wants him dead. He claims that he wants him back, but there’s something that doesn’t seem right about his story…” Vegeta trailed off in thought.
“Vegeta, what are you talking about? Kakarot is dead. Along with his parents.” Lord Hokoru looked like he was about to give up on what his son was talking about, but Vegeta wasn’t going to.
“Father, what did Kakarot look like? What do you remember of him? Did he have hair that seemed untamed and stick out in all directions? Did his face appear innocent and have brown eyes?”
Lord Hokoru scrunched his face in thought. “Yes, yes I believe he did. He looked just like his father. A splitting image.”
“Then it’s Kakarot! He’s the samurai!”
However, his father seemed skeptical. “No. Lord Akuto would’ve recognized him.”
Vegeta banged his fist on the desk. “Father, please listen to me! Master doesn’t even know this! I came to you because I know I can trust you. Please, father. You have to believe me. Surely you’ve heard the news that Lord Akuto has been staying here in Edo until the day after the ceremony. You should do some research on the man while he’s here. I just know he’s up to something.” He sighed when his father didn’t look convinced. “Father, you know I can read people very well and that I wouldn’t lie to you about something like this. Please, father. I need you to help me…” He gave his father a few moments to think it over before adding, “And you can’t tell Master about this.”
Lord Hokoru looked at him. “Why not?”
“Because then Lord Akuto will know and he might…do something. I don’t know. All I know is that it’s best for him not to know what we…know.”
Lord Hokoru shook his head. “Vegeta. You do realize that you’re asking me to betray one of my best and loyal friends.”
Vegeta hesitated. “Maybe…he’s not as loyal as you think he is. You did say that the man hardly showed himself and it’s been a long time since you’ve last seen him. For all you know, he’s probably a different person. You say that he’s your best friend because he’s all that remains of the Mamoru family, who I know you miss, and here I am trying to protect what they have left…their honor. Surely there must be something strange that you remember about the man. Something that can help me link to the events that are happening now.” He looked at his father with hope.
Lord Hokoru’s mask fell away when Vegeta mentioned Lord Akuto being all that was left of the Mamoru family and concentrated on what his son said afterwards. He thought back all those years ago of what he remembered of the man. “Well, now that you mention it. Akuto and Bardock had a feud for a while. If I remember correctly, I believe it was over the family business of who got to take over the Doumei clan. When their parents died, in their will, they left everything to their youngest son, Bardock, while Akuto only got a portion of their parent’s assets. From what Bardock told me and what I’ve seen, Akuto held a grudge against his younger brother and only showed himself demanding for what’s his. Then, when Bardock passed…” He trailed off as if a thought suddenly occurred to him. After a moment, the look passed and understanding took over. “No…wonder he always had that strange look in his eyes.” He whispered the last part.
After the longest few minutes of Vegeta’s life, he froze as it all came together, then bolted from the room. He rushed upstairs and on his way he passed a servant. “Tell my father I’ll be in my room for the rest of the day “planning” for the ceremony. I do not wish to be disturbed!” He slammed the door as he entered his room and changed out of his robes and into more comfortable clothing to blend in with the environment around him. He had to tell Kakarot as soon as possible. He had to tell him that Akuto was in town…and that he planned to kill him.

I’m bringing everything slowly out into the open. >:D I don’t know why, hehe. I guess I just like to torture you all. ^^ So, confused yet? I am. XD Though, it seems the reviewers know what’s going on. :) Anyway, it seems I kinda rushed through this chapter. O.o Hey, I did write this whole thing in one night. :D That counts for something, no? :/ Eh, anyway…I can’t help but think that maybe dragging out the deadline of the wedding is a bad idea. :/ I mean, I don’t…have any plans until then. >< Ah, whatever. Maybe if I continue writing…stuff, something will come to me. Something usually does. :/
Don’t worry my fellow reviewers. I haven’t lost interest yet. :) I have some time at night and last night I took advantage of that. ^^ I actually tried writing some more of Reborn, but nothing came to mind, except a few sentences to get me starting on the chapter. >< So, I came back to this and I actually started on two more chapters this afternoon. >.> See? Nothing to worry. :) Perhaps after I’m done with this, I’ll continue with Reborn…and here I promised myself not to post anymore stories until I was done with Reborn. >< But…I wanted to introduce something else to the readers. :) More to come.
