Kit-kit, as always, thank you so much!
Ct-sama- Very happy that you liked that scene! So much to do, so little time! I think it was much needed and I hope you enjoy this chapter just as much, lots of craziness in the making.
::: Arrivals :::
Vegeta arrived quickly back at C.C., naked. He entered in through a balcony where Bulma was sitting on her laptop. He ignored her but in her shock at his bare body she didn’t have much to say anyways. She watched as Vegeta’s battle-worn figure walked into the room to grab some clothes.
“Huntre will be here any minute,” she finally managed to say.
Vegeta’s eyes rose up to meet hers, in them there was acknowledgement, but he didn’t respond verbally. He walked back out onto the balcony past her and jumped off. Once on the ground he took his time in joining the others who were around in the back. Goku was there before he got around the bend. He was congratulating everyone on a job well done, refusing to meet Vegeta’s eyes when Piccolo noticed him joining them.
Before anyone else could speak Huntre had already entered the atmosphere at a close distance away. He and five of his men dispatched from the ship as it flew overhead and they came down at great speed, landing among the Z warriors. (Luckily for them, strange things happen all the time at Capsule Corp., and most of the time they go ignored.) All the men were of different races, some tall and skinny, others short and stalky, Huntre was the most humanoid of the group, but they all wore amour and they all had many weapons about them, from gadgets on their arms, to rifles, and even knives.
Amori was the first to speak and he did so firmly, “Huntre. You got here quickly. Very good. Tell us everything you know. Introductions will be done at a later time.”
Huntre bowed to him, his recognition of the others did not go unnoticed. After scanning the area with his keen eyes he stared at Vegeta for a moment. He answered, “The Demuhar is akin to the Warzel.”At the surprised look on Renjiamori’s face Goku looked at Vegeta and wanted to ask him what that means, but he couldn’t bring himself to speak to him and Huntre continued anyways, “He has since destroyed nine planets other than Nartal but there doesn’t seem to be any pattern that we know of, yet.”
Amori glared at Goku, who clenched his fists, gritting his teeth. He could honestly say that there were times when he couldn’t sense Jeremel, so that fact was disturbing but how could he have known? He’s only Saiyan, after all.
Huntre only added, “His energy source, as I’m sure you’ve guessed, is unknown.”
“‘Every Warzel discovers his own unique powers over time,’” Vegeta stated and slowly drifted his eyes towards Renjiamori, “He’s a man of wizardry, like you?”
Renji stuck his nose in the air and said, “I am a direct descendant of Warzel ancestry, which has since mostly died off. A Likor is one of the main regions of my old world’s nations; therefore my powers are more akin to wizardry than his. You may call him an enchanter, maybe, but not a wizard. Still, that does not help us.”
Everyone wondered at that new information about Renjiamori as Huntre continued with a grimace, “There’s more. His mother was not a Demuharian. I could not find out what race she was but it may be the key in finding out his power.”
She was a Saiyan, Kakarot heard in his head, crystal clear, and wondered where the thought came from.
“And to top it all off, only half of his story was true,” Huntre added.
“What do you mean?” Vegeta demanded, while everyone but Goku and Renji wondered what the first story was.
“Jeremel said that Frieza ordered King Vegeta to destroy the Demuhar, but there are no records indicating that the Demuhar were ever supposed to be attacked. The logs only say that King Vegeta and his crew eradicated them, leaving one survivor, Jeremel. There was no monetary value given to the king for the planet.”
“Why would your father destroy them- just for sport?” Amori asked Vegeta, confused.
K-Kakarot! Listen!
“Vegeta!” Goku called out before closing his eyes. He saw the visions he was being told, and reached out for the Prince. Vegeta turned to him, but Goku could no longer hear or see the world in front of him.
He listened as Bardock spoke to him, When the two of them met, King Vegeta had no idea that Jeremel was part Saiyan and Jeremel kept that information from him, with plans of his own to unite the two races.
How do you know this? Goku asked.
Just listen! King Vegeta thought highly of the powers of the Demuhar and saw that they could be good allies and thought that maybe they could fight together against Frieza but when he found out that Jeremel was planning on using Saiyan women to gain more power, he became furious and confronted him. Their friendship ended in a battle which neither walked away from without scars. Once the King healed, he never even discussed it with Frieza, he just destroyed the whole planet, but he spared Jeremel’s life to show him which race was more powerful.
“Kakarot!” Vegeta yelled, smacking him out of his trance.
“Vegeta!” Goku finally snapped out of it, “He’s a Saiyan! He’s part Saiyan! That’s why your father killed the Demuhar. Jeremel was using him to get to Planet Vegeta in order to persuade Saiyan women to come back with him and create the ultimate warrior race! All he cared about was power. Now he thinks that because of his own unique strength he can do anything he wants and even a Saiyan can’t stop him.”
“What!” Everyone cried.
Vegeta believed him beyond a doubt. He’d never heard him say anything remotely along those lines before. “Where did you learn that?!” Vegeta asked, folding his arms across his chest.
“Just trust me!”
Huntre interrupted excitedly, “That actually makes sense! Even with the rest of his story,” He looked at Vegeta, “In a way you are his Prince, but he is not yours. Just like the King was his king, too. He must have felt some obligation to the Saiyans, and he’s got to be afraid of them after what King Vegeta did. He probably didn’t tell you because he wants to catch you as off guard as possible.”
“Yes, we know about his ridiculous tactics,” Amori interrupted, “Which is why I would like to offer you a choice to leave and go find safety elsewhere. Jeremel has been here twice, toying with us.”
Huntre’s men seemed to like the idea and even Huntre was obviously shaken but he answered, “Master Renji, being here with you is the safest place to be. At least we can go out like men when it comes down to it.”
Amori nodded at him but didn’t say anything else and Vegeta looked at Goku in frustration but couldn’t find the right words to say, so he remained silent as well.
Finally Goku managed to ask, “So what does this mean?”
“You cannot always fight fire with fire,” Amori sighed, “The whole planet will burn.”
Piccolo finally spoke, and he asked Renjiamori, “What are you afraid of, exactly?”
Vegeta answered for him, “If we fight him and we do not defeat him he will only come back stronger. Damn him and damn his father! We may not be able to use the blutz waves against him, after all!”
Goku said, gently, “Vegeta, if we have to fuse-”
“No!” Vegeta barked, “We can think of something else.”
“It’s not like the Potara Earrings. We’ll go back to being ourselves after a while!”
“I would rather win this as myself, thank you very much, Kakarot.”
Although he thought twice about it, he still argued, “Your pride is the reason he’s doing this! Because he knows how much this affects you!” He heard Vegeta thinking, My pride? The same pride that comes from my past? The same pride which has literally carried me through every trial I’ve ever suffered?
Vegeta yelled in retort, “At least I have my pride!” leaving their quarrels ever personal and ever public. “I will not go out without fighting him, if the coward will ever stay put!” He pointed a finger at him, “And you! Tell me when you sense him! Tell me where he is! You let those planets be destroyed, and if I’m right, which I am, I’m sure there is a reason he’s attacked those planets, specifically. I can bet he has another plan in mind!”
Goku heard the voice in his head again saying, H-he’s right, Kakarot. As he replied, flustered by Vegeta’s thoughts, he knew he had to concentrate and only managed to say, “I didn’t know about the other planets!” Kakarot swallowed hard and thought, Father, tell me.
Although at that time there were many people with many thoughts about the subject at hand, none could be more important to Goku than this revelation and he tried to hone in on it, despite the engrossing world around him.
Goku felt the little inklings gnawing at his mind, like information trying to surface, and he searched and searched for Jeremel. He thought, What is he trying to do? What does he want to know? But he got no response. He remembered Vegeta’s words, to just let the information come to him, and he closed his eyes and took a deep breath.
In his mind’s eye he saw a planet coming into view, and he knew the evil intentions for that planet and their people. In fact, he realized he knows this place. He knows those people. Everything was moving so fast. Soon the world would be destroyed, along with the dragonballs.
The dragonballs? But that’s not the Earth.
Planet Namek.
Goku yelled suddenly, “Vegeta, we have to go, now!”
Vegeta nodded, though he was thoroughly nervous about where they were heading, he grabbed ahold of him anyways and they were gone.
“SHIT!” Amori roared. He tried, but he was too slow to grab ahold of either of them before they vanished. He grumbled, “How could we let this happen?!”
Piccolo actually agreed. He had no idea where they had gone, and there was no way that they could get to them in any quick rate. They would just have to sit around and wait, again.
Trunks said, putting his hands behind his head, “Your Dad’s been acting really weird, Goten.”
“Yeah, it’s because he’s seeing the future. Your Dad went with him and didn’t even ask where they were going.”
“Well, Goku better be right.”
Gohan pinched Goten and said, “If only we knew what he was right about…” stopping their argument. “What do we do now?”
“No one else knows that technique Goku seems so fond of?” Renji asked with his words laced in sarcasm, which covered up his jealousy of such a talent.
Huntre and his men were astonished at the disappearance of Vegeta and Goku as well as the behavior of these Earth-dwellers, and Renjiamori seems to have found his place amongst them rather quickly. They were all so calm and even feisty in the face of such peril. The space-warriors knew not what to say or do, so they only listened.
“No,” Gohan replied, “But I think it’s best that some of us are still here, anyways. What if Jeremel comes back here while they’re gone?”
“There are too many probabilities to discuss them all,” Renji said as he put his hand on Gohan’s shoulder.
Moments later, though, Vegeta and Goku returned, with both men appearing to be half-dead. Vegeta held Goku in his arms and his voice was coarse as he called for his son by name, “Healing-en… Tanks… Bulma…Now…” he said, barely keeping his eyes open.
Everything was panic and chaos for the next half an hour. Trunks and Goten immediately grabbed Bulma to find out where the machines Vegeta mentioned were located. Amori carried Vegeta while Piccolo carried Goku and they rushed them there as fast as they could. Thank goodness Bulma had made these for Vegeta when he first moved into Capsule Corp. They tried to keep the woman away but she was stubborn and stayed to overlook the initiation process. She held her composure at least until she was away from all of the new faces that were coming into her house like a mini militia.
Gohan was much in shock throughout this whole time but to the others he only looked calm and confident. Many of Huntre’s men looked to him for answers, as did Trunks and Goten, since Amori and Piccolo were rather keen on staying by the sides of the incapacitated Saiyan men. Gohan’s stoic face, however, gave no response to any of their questions. He did not know what to expect upon the awakening of his father or the Prince, and he didn’t know what to do but wait. He just kept thinking to himself, Jeremel’s got to be in just as bad of shape as they are. That was his only solace during that time.
::: Alterations :::
Alone in his room, Renjiamori had just arrived back from some heavy training. He spent a little bit of time in meditation while he let his body cool off. He stood facing the far wall, regulating his breath and clearing his mind.
An all too familiar accented voice called coldly from behind him, entering silently, “Renjiamori.”
Amori knew immediately in the tone of Zarbon’s voice that this wasn’t going to be one of their casual chats. He slowly turned to him and answered, robotically, “What can I do for you, Zarbon?”
Zarbon smirked and chuckled, his handsome features turning devilish, and Amori could tell he was controlling his anger, for now. Finally the lizard-man said, “You’ve been hiding something from us all along, haven’t you?”
Amori couldn’t keep the confusion from his otherwise clear face and he replied, “What are you talking about?”
Zarbon’s expression contorted into madness and Amori suddenly found that he had hit the wall hard with his back pressing into it and Zarbon’s fists were gripping his uniform. His eyes were beady and calculating as he said, “Don’t lie to me, you filthy weakling. I demand to know everything you know about Vegeta’s plans!”
“Vegeta?!” Amori’s eyes widened, “I haven’t talked to him since the day he left.” His heart pounded at the very mention of the man’s name, even after a year has gone by. Why would Zarbon be bringing this up now, unless…
Zarbon threw Renjiamori to the ground and got on top of him, shoving his face into the floor. Renji resisted but there was little he could do against Zarbon’s strength without possibly biting off more than he could chew, especially since he just got finished with his own work out. Zarbon was hissing into his ear, “What did he tell you before he left?!!”
“Get the fuck off me!” Amori managed to scream, still struggling to free himself. He answered, his voice being smothered, “I don’t know what you’re talking about!”
“No?” Zarbon asked, disbelieving. He got off of him and picked him up again, throwing him this time face first into the wall and holding him there with his body. “You didn’t know about Raditz’s little brother, hmm?”
“What?!” he replied, surprised. That part he didn’t know about, for sure, though he had some suspicions that Vegeta left to Earth for a specific reason.
Zarbon kneed him in the back and let him fall to the ground as he explained, “Yes, another Saiyan that we somehow let slip through our fingers. You knew, and I’ll bet you knew he was heading towards the Earth, too. Why do you think we let him go? We knew he could only hide for so long.”
Renjiamori was coughing and struggling to get up when he finally gave a sharp glare at Zarbon and said, “I never knew what his plan was. This is all a surprise to me.”
“Well,” Zarbon chuckled, “Don’t get excited. You see, Vegeta’s lead Frieza to a great discovery that even the Prince hadn’t planned on making. We’ll be headed out to Namek shortly, you know. It should be a fine resting place for that monkey.”
“What? Namek?”
Zarbon still laughed as he turned and began to walk away, saying, “Once we find the dragonballs, Vegeta will wish he’d never double-crossed Frieza in the first place. Then I will come for you because, believe me, he won’t.”
Renjiamori’s anger at such a statement boiled his blood and gave him enough adrenaline to stand up and walk off the pain Zarbon had just inflicted on him, but Frieza’s most loyal henchmen had gone in a hurry.
His life was about to change. He was aware of himself enough to know that. Renjiamori’s mind was going on about a million things, like Vegeta, for one, and whether or not he truly can defeat Frieza, the dragonballs, for another, and what the hell those are, and finally, how to escape, along with every sub-category in between.
His fears consumed him once again. Yet, he truly did not know what he was afraid of in the first place. He could admit that he’s upset about his past, even now, and the choices that he’s made. Inside he felt that no amount of good could ever change the bad he’s done, let alone the evil in the world. He didn’t know if he could believe in satisfaction. He didn’t know if he could find contentedness within himself in such a universe, in this lifetime.
He’d always wondered if the end of it all would truly stop all the pain, but how could he allow it to be over, when he’s accomplished nothing worthwhile in his lifetime? Some Prince of Kings, he thought.
Still, there is always a choice to be made, and if Vegeta was willing to put it all on the line, he should be, too. With a calculating mind Renjiamori thought hard on which paths to tread as he planned on escaping Frieza’s army. From there he has to decide how to fight back.
Ah, but Vegeta. Such hope was inspired inside of him by the topic. News of his activities was more than welcome, and active, Renjiamori will now have to be.
::: Treasures :::
Mmm, what’s happening? I must be in one of those regeneration tanks. Wow, it’s been a while. I can sense Renji nearby but I’m so tired, I don’t even want to open my eyes yet.
Vegeta! Good, he’s beside me, but his power level is low. Oh, he’s just sleeping.
Jeremel. Namek, it’s gone.
Jeremel destroyed it. I couldn’t stop it. We don’t have much time, here, I’m sure. Where is everyone? There. There. Okay. Plan? Damn.
He almost died, too. Jeremel was very surprised by our arrival. Ha. I thought for sure that he was finished, but… He’s so powerful. He escaped the blast, I know, but I don’t know where he is. At least he’s not here.
I have to get out of here. Senzu beans? Food. Vegeta, please wake up, soon.
I manage to open my eyes and I glance at Renjiamori, who notices the movement immediately. He smiles at me after running up to machine. He’s motioning something. What? Not done? Oh. Another hour? Okay, I guess. I shrug at him a little and he says he’ll be right back, and since I can read his mind I know he’s going to get Gohan.
What good will it do? Oh, well. There’s nothing I can do now but try to come up with another idea. Or read Jeremel’s mind again. How in the world did I do that?
Here’s Gohan. He looks so worried. I wonder what I look like? Oh, he’s holding something up, a bag… what is it? Senzu beans! Yes! Good job, Gohan!
I’m thankful that he went to Korin’s. Amori looks confused at why he initiated the draining sequence, I don’t know why that makes me happy. (I guess because for once I know something he doesn’t know.) As the liquid empties I begin to feel why there was still an hour left in my recovery. Man, am I weak. Stupid.
I take off the mouth piece and step out onto the cold floor slowly, smiling and thanking my son as he hands me a senzu bean and says he glad to see me awake. I eat it and feel my full strength returning to me. I thank him, again, but turn to look at Vegeta first, to see what shape he’s in. He seems fine, other than the disturbed look on his face. He looks so angry right now, like he’s having a nightmare of some kind.
“Piccolo said it’d be best to leave you in there until you woke up, and then give you the senzu beans, at least that way you’d both be well rested,” Gohan said, taking me from my thoughts.
I turn and nod at him, smiling to hide my insecurities.
“What happened?” Renjiamori asked, much more forward than Gohan.
My eyes drift towards him and I consider how I want to answer but Gohan speaks first, and he says, “I want to talk to you, first.” The sternness in his voice caught me by surprise.
He looks at Amori, and without the use of words a message was conveyed between them but I am not sure what that message was. Amori nods at him and says, “I’m going to stay here with Vegeta, for now.”
“Okay,” Gohan replied because I was too busy eyeing both of them. When Gohan turns to me his demeanor goes back to normal, and he looks almost sheepishly at me as he says, “Let’s go to the balcony.”
As I followed him silently I noticed that he was avoiding everyone else, like he didn’t want to be interrupted. This behavior is a little unusual. What could he want to speak with me about? The last time he did this…
“Dad,” Gohan began as they walked outside onto the large overhang, “I’ve been meaning to talk to you about this for a long time…”
“What is it, son?” I ask, suddenly feeling the tension in the air that Gohan was charging.
“It’s about Vegeta and… you,” he sighed and began, “I have a confession to make.”
Nervous about this conversation I interrupted, “Are you sure this is the best time, Gohan?”
“Will you just listen to me?” He suddenly snaps, and I remember that he’s got a bit of his mom in him, too, and I smile and nod. He sighs, his shoulders sagging for a moment before he begins, “I had a thing for Vegeta for a long time while you were gone.”
Inside I felt a faint trace of jealousy, but it only lingered so long before dissipating as he explained, “He was kind to me in a way I’m sure you’ve seen him be, but it was never anything serious.” In his eyes there was honesty and also pain. “I- I needed him, in many ways that I didn’t fully understand.”
Uncomfortable, I tried to stop him and said, “Gohan-”
“I’m not done!” He interrupted me and I waited patiently for him to continue.
I couldn’t help but think, We don’t ever talk like this.
“I always knew that he had feelings for you, but I never knew that you had feelings for him,” he explained, “I had no idea that what I was feeling was even normal. When I talked to Vegeta about those things he gave me some of the best advice a young man could get.” Gohan thought, Don’t you see what I’m saying?
“What are saying, Gohan?” I frowned, suddenly ashamed.
Gohan’s eyes seemed clear and his gaze, concise, as he answered, “Vegeta is a good man. He’s always been a good man and you know that but you’re throwing it all away. I tried to talk to you about it before you left for all those years but you wouldn’t listen then.”
“I told you not to worry about me and Vegeta.”
“That’s what you always say, but you are my family, and so is he, and I’m a grown man, now. I can see the truth of things for myself, and the truth is: you don’t know how to be in a relationship because you never stick around. You were never there for me.”
That hurt. “Gohan, I’m sorry.”
“Sorry doesn’t mean anything to me,” Gohan shook his head, and to my shock, the venom in his words was not found on his face as he continued to pour out his heart to me, “I know you’re sorry. I don’t care anymore. I’m not a child who needs that kind of support, anymore. I love you just the same because I’m beginning to understand you. I’m just trying to get you to understand that I was right, all along, that Vegeta really did stay here for you. You’re the only reason he’s changed. You’re the only thing that he wants in his life. You’re his everything and you’re so busy being mad at Renjiamori that you don’t see how it’s ruining your relationship with the only person in the universe you’re meant to be with.”
I couldn’t help the flash of anger on my face as I replied, “Again, Gohan, this is not your business.” Don’t make me shut this conversation down, I thought, nervously.
Ignoring me, he went on to say, “I was afraid to tell you about me and Vegeta because of how you treat Renjiamori, but then I realized I’m not going to fall into your footsteps by not discussing things. Besides, that’s not all I have to say.”
“Where is this coming from?” I asked, and grabbed onto one of Gohan’s hands, he squeezed back gently, “Son, Vegeta told me about you two. I’m not mad. I know you said you don’t want to hear it, but I am sorry, I never realized what my absence could mean to you guys, I guess I just figured that you’d be fine-”
“Renjiamori deserves better from you,” he added, still disregarding me. “He’s a good man and I always thought that you could see the good in everyone but the way you’ve been acting recently is wrong.”
“Gohan,” I sighed, letting go of his hand while trying to control my anger, “I don’t want to talk about this with you anymore.”
“I thought you might say that,” I watched as he frowned and added, “I have just one more thing to say: If you can’t accept his past and talk about it with him, then how can you expect him to do the same? Can’t you see Vegeta doesn’t want you to become a thing of his past?”
Gohan turned from me as I pondered those words and began walking away in frustration, but before he left the balcony altogether he stopped to look at me and added, “I almost forgot to tell you. I figured I’d tell you first, so you don’t find out later on and get even angrier with me…” in his eyes there was a softness and I saw a new emotion as he admitted, “I have feelings for Renjiamori. I haven’t told him yet, though, so please don’t ruin that for me, but I needed to tell somebody.”
My jaw dropped but Gohan was already gone.
---
Not enough time passed before Renjiamori walked through the doors of the balcony swiftly. I wasn’t facing him and I didn’t want to turn around and acknowledge him but I did.
“Goku,” he began and my shoulders grew tense at just the sound of his voice, “I suppose you don’t want to discuss personal matters with me but there is something I feel I must say.”
“Renji, I don’t think this is the right time or place,” I could growl at him right now but I can see that he wouldn’t heed it.
His blue-green eyes stare into mine unceasingly as he says, “Time or place?” chuckling, “Here and now is all we’ve got, but what do I know? You Saiyans don’t listen to what anyone else has to say.” I bare my teeth at him and he smiles, knowing he’s riled me up, and adds, “Nothing’s going on between me and Vegeta, and I don’t wish for it, anymore.”
My heart jumps to my throat and defensively I open up and say, “I ended it.” I could see the confusion in his eyes as I explained, “I couldn’t stand to see Vegeta so upset with me.”
“With you?” Renji smiled, and I found it odd and annoying, but he spoke before I could and said, “I know that’s not why you ended it. You ended it because you think it was never going to happen the way you wanted it.”
I replied, unsure of myself, and only said, “I was blind to many things before I got into a relationship with him.”
Renji’s brow quirked and he asked me, “He told you about his past?”
“Yes,” I nodded and answered without a second thought, “and now that I know, I’m glad, in a way, but I don’t think he is.”
Amori was very much moved, I could see it on his face, and for the first time I realized that maybe he was jealous of me. I heard him saying, “You needed to hear it, just like he needed to tell you so that you can prove to him that the openness he shared won’t be the death of anything, but that it will bring you closer together. Now you need to share with him.”
Again, my anger flared and I replied, “It’s none of your business what we share, Renjiamori.”
Renji huffed and diverted his eyes for a moment before coming back with, “Fine, but I came out here to say something else.”
Dear Kami, please don’t tell me you’re in love with my son.
At that moment I felt that Vegeta was waking up, and Renjiamori must have noticed the look on my face change dramatically.
He asks, “Vegeta’s awake?”
I nod, and he leaves immediately, letting the rest of our conversation hang in the air, to be continued.
