Chapter Sixteen
The next six weeks passed uneventfully. Bulma stayed in the medical wing, oftentimes accompanied by Bardock or Kakarot, but always guarded by four to five of Vegeta's most trusted warriors.
Bulma was a few days over fourteen weeks, nearly time for delivery. Much to Kakarot's dismay, the cub thought it was fun to hide his identity with his tail, so he kept his fathers guessing. Vegeta had assumed it was a boy, and had named him Vegeta, as customary for the royal bloodline. On the off chance (according to Bardock, it was a very slim chance) it was a girl, she would be named Aizielle, after the Saiyan god of chaos, Aziel. Kakarot wouldn't mind having a girl, but he thought that a boy would be way more fun. He'd be more durable. Most Saiyan women didn't fight as much as the men, due to their scarce numbers.
"You could deliver any day now." Bardock explained. "Most Saiyan women don't carry past sixteen weeks. If the cub is strong enough, he'll be ready to come out in a matter of days. From the way his ki is jumping, he'll want out very soon."
"Am I already dilated?" Bulma asked, seeming more nervous by the day. Chi Chi was still on Earth, preparing to leave after her father's funeral that morning. Being here without her wife, possibly having to give birth without her, scared the shit out of Bulma.
"Natural delivery probably won't be an option for you, my dear. As of right now, you're barely a centimeter dilated, but he's moving around so much, I'd expect for you to go into labor within the next few days."
Bulma rubbed over her belly, feeling the baby shifting inside of her frantically. "There's no way to make me go into labor so I can deliver naturally?"
"With the pregnancy you've had thus far, your best choice is to have a cesarean."
Vegeta looked over to the woman and noticed how anxious she looked. Lately, the dark circles under her eyes had deepened while her normally bright skin started to dull. He knew that she was worried about the Zarbon situation, especially with Chi Chi being off-planet. Truly, he knew how she felt and he wished he could help, but there was very minimal he could do. Being the king, he did what he could to keep Zarbon as far away from her as possible.
Bardock left to give Kakarot, Vegeta, and Bulma some privacy, as it was obvious that the pressure was getting to Bulma.
"I know this isn't how you pictured all of this to happen, Bulma, but we plan to keep this as standard, and safe, as possible." Vegeta spoke, but he couldn't force out the pity that he held for the woman right now.
"Okay, textbook boy, now I'm completely calm. Good job." Bulma said sarcastically.
"We're just trying to help." Kakarot said.
"I just want Chi Chi to be here." Bulma sighed, trying to calm herself down. "I'm sorry. I just thought she'd be here for this."
Kakarot reached over and put a hand on her belly where she was applying gentle pressure to try to calm the squirming baby. He rubbed soothingly in small circles. "Chi Chi may not be able to be here, but we're here. We told you before, we're not going to let anything happen to you." He sighed heavily. "We can never repay you for this and I wish there was a way we could."
Bulma looked away, trying to keep her emotions in check. So far, the pregnancy had gone much smoother than she had initially anticipated, but she hated having Chi literally worlds away.
"She'll be here any day, Bulma." Vegeta said. "In fact, we could send someone out with our faster ships and get her tonight. She'll be here by the morning."
Bulma's eyes lit up. "That would be wonderful!"
Vegeta stood, ready to exit the room. "I'll make the arrangements." Leaving, he flashed Kakarot a glaring eye. "I'll be back shortly. You're the only guard here at the moment, and I expect you to show no mercy if the need arises."
Kakarot nodded, smiling at his mate. "I understand, my king."
Bulma started talking frantically, telling Kakarot about how excited she was to finally have Chi back on planet so soon. It went on for a while, maybe close to thirty minutes.
Then, something happened. Neither of them even saw it coming. The wall facing the outside world started to shake and collapsed with a loud bang.
"What's going on?" Bulma shouted, crawling closer to Kakarot.
"Don't tell me that your memory is really that poor, woman." A voice came from the smoke. Kakarot stood in front of her, powering up quickly.
Meanwhile, Vegeta had just sent one of his commanders into orbit to pick up the other Earth woman. Hearing the crash, he looked over to see that significant damage had been done to the medical wing of the palace.
"What the fuck is going on?" Vegeta shouted, trying to push passed the persistent guards encouraging him to stay where he was.
"My king, it's too dangerous for you to go. We'll call a guard squad to go check it out."
"Dangerous? My MATE is in that building." Vegeta shouted, pushing through angrily.
"Sire, please. Kakarot can protect himself."
Vegeta reached out with his mind to Kakarot's, seeing the being standing with a smirk in the room.
"Zarbon! That son of a bitch." Vegeta clenched his fists, pushing through the guards to rush toward the palace.
Kakarot stood, shaking. His power was radiating around him, but it was unstable. He hadn't completely succeeded in pushing past his fear.
"You look like a scared dog, Kakarot. Is it really all that bad?" Zarbon laughed as he stepped toward his prey.
Kakarot took a step closer to Bulma. "Get out of here. I don't want to have to hurt you."
"You, hurt me? Don't make me laugh, kid." Zarbon said, reaching out faster than ever to grab the Saiyan's tail. Kakarot shouted in agony as Zarbon squeezed experimentally. Dropping to his knees, Kakarot tried to catch his breath. "You're pathetic." Zarbon kicked Kakarot across the jaw, keeping him dangling by his tail. Blood splashed across the floor from Kakarot's busted lip.
"I won't let you hurt Bulma." Kakarot said quietly, locking eyes with the larger man.
"I'd be more worried about you." Zarbon chuckled and squeezed until he felt a pop beneath his fingers as a bone in Kakarot's tail gave way.
Kakarot's vision blurred from the pain and dropped out of his Super Saiyan form. Damn tails. He could barely catch his breath after the dreadful feeling dropped in his stomach.
"What do you want?" Kakarot asked, his voice raspy.
Zarbon chuckled. "I'll get to that, my dear Kakarot. For now, get some rest." Bringing his heel down, Zarbon knocked Kakarot out with a swift drop.
Bulma's heart jumped into her throat and she moved as far back on the bed as she could, intending to scream. Before she could get there, Zarbon moved to cover her mouth with his cold, green hand.
"I wouldn't do that if I were you." His voice came from right behind her ear, sending chills down her spine. Her heartbeat pounded in her ears like a drum in the dark, while tears formed in her aquamarine eyes. "Now, be quiet or we may have to intercept your mate's ship."
Bulma's eyes grew wide. No, she wished he'd threatened anything but Chi Chi.
"Good girl." Zarbon glared at his henchman that he'd brought specifically for this moment. "Raja, grab the boy."
Raja looked very similar to Zarbon, but he was a bit larger, more husky, and much shorter hair. He reached over and threw Kakarot over his shoulder. They moved quickly, far too quickly for Bulma to comprehend. Before Bulma gained her bearings, they were outside of the palace, out in the middle of nowhere. Zarbon snapped a ki restricting device around her wrist and threw her to the floor.
When Kakarot's mind began to clear, he noticed the agonizing throbbing in his tail. The bastard broke a bone in the center, so he couldn't even lift it. His wrists were chained together above his head, and he was slumped half against the wall, half on the floor. His arms were the only thing restrained, but the ki restraints really did their job. He was practically hanging from the ceiling. His shoulders were sore from the constant pull of his limp weight on the metal.
"No! I won't let you! The baby did nothing!" Bulma's voice was the last straw to break Kakarot from his daze. His eyes locked with Bulma's fear glazed ones. Both of their captors were moving toward Bulma ominously.
"No, Bulma!" Kakarot shouted, his voice hoarse. "Leave my cub out of this!"
Zarbon turned and chuckled. "Oh, look. Monkey boy is finally awake."
Kakarot clenched his jaw and tried to fight the growl that escaped his throat. His dominant nature was truly coming out. "What do you want from us?"
Crossing his arms over his chest, Zarbon took a few steps toward the Saiyan before bringing his hand across Kakarot's cheek with a loud slap. "Do you really think you're in a position to ask questions?"
Cringing at the pain, Kakarot felt all the pieces click into place. Nerves mauled his stomach while he gained his bearings. He only had one choice. Vegeta would never find them out here with these ki chains, and Zarbon only wanted Kakarot. He even knew Zarbon's intention for the cub if he were to keep Bulma here.
Sweat dripped over his skin. "You want me."
Zarbon raised a perfectly plucked eyebrow, but said nothing.
Kakarot locked eyes with the reptile. "If you only want me, let Bulma and the cub go. I'll stay here with you if you let them go."
"Kakarot, no!" Bulma shouted. "Vegeta will be here any moment to save us!"
"Bulma, please, this is no time for an argument."
"NO, listen to me! Vegeta loves you! He makes you happy! Why are you letting this happen? Why are you giving up?" Bulma was practically shrieking across the room.
"I'd rather have the three of you safe. If that means I stay here, I'll do it."
Bulma's tears dripped down her cheeks. "You know what will happen if you stay here!"
Kakarot looked over to his friend. "I do. I'm used to it. It was nice while it lasted, but I was always meant for this."
Bulma's eyes grew wide and she started sobbing uncontrollably. "Please, don't."
Kakarot ignored her, looking up at Zarbon. "Do we have a deal?"
Zarbon smirked. "You drive a hard bargain, boy." He looked to Raja. "Take the girl to the prince. Don't let him follow you back."
"NO!" Bulma screamed, running over to Kakarot. She wrapped her arms around his chest, avoiding her belly, sobbing and holding as tight as she could. "I can't just leave you here! I WON'T!"
Kakarot was growing very annoyed. Bulma had to get out of here. He'd accepted his fate, and she was just putting herself in more danger. "Bulma, get off of me and get out of here!" Kakarot growled.
Raja came and grabbed Bulma and ran off too fast for her to fight.
Emotion rushed through Kakarot, causing him to shutter. He'd accepted his fate, but he hated that he'd never see Vegeta again. He hated that he made this bond and it was going to go to waste.
He hated that he allowed himself to be happy.
"Don't pout too much, boy." Zarbon walked over to him, kneeling to his level to stroke his cheek. "I'll take good care of you."
"Swear to me that you'll leave them be." Kakarot said, quietly.
Zarbon chuckled. "I give you my word. You were what I wanted, so I have no reason to fight them."
Kakarot smiled sadly. "That's all I needed to know."
