Lyri walked down the palace hallway towards where she knew Frieza was staying. After her outburst last night, her and Vegeta hadn’t said a word toward each other. In fact, she hadn’t slept and left earlier than normal. The click-clacking of her boots stopped and she said over her shoulder, “Go away.”
“Can’t. Orders,” Kakarot said walking up behind her.
Lyri groaned and turned to look at Kakarot. “He gave you orders to follow me? Really? What the fuck?”
“Can you blame him? Look at what you’re doing right now. No wonder he gave us orders to follow you around,” Kakarot told her.
“Us? Really? Vegeta gave both you and, I’m guessing Nix, orders to follow me around?” Lyri asked. She let out a breath. “That’s all fine and dandy, but I have a plan and in order for it to work, you need to leave.”
“No. I have orders. I’m not to let you out of my sight. And I’m especially not going to do it when you were spouting off about how you were going to give yourself over to Frieza last night!” Kakarot snapped.
Lyri took a step closer to her adoptive brother. “Kakarot, I promise you, that’s not what I’m doing. I have a plan that I think will work, but you can’t be here. Please, Kakarot, I’m begging you.” Kakarot sighed, rubbing his hand over his face.
“Vegeta’s going to kill me,” he muttered.
Lyri smiled, relieved. “Thank you.”
“You owe me,” Kakarot told her before leaving.
Lyri continued until coming to a couple of Frieza’s soldiers. She told them that she needed to speak with Frieza and they got on their scouters. Moments later, a large pale green man walked out of the hallway.
“Didn’t Lord Frieza tell you two idiots not to disturb him?” he asked. The guards explained that Lyri had asked to see Lord Frieza. Zarbon turned to look at Lyri. “I’m sorry but Lord Frieza isn’t seeing anyone at the moment.”
Lyri kept her cool, though the thought of back talking Zarbon scared her. “Yes, well, that may be, but he requested to see me this morning about something rather important.”
“I highly doubt that he said that,” Zarbon scoffed.
“Fine. Don’t tell him I was here. It’s your life not mine,” Lyri told him.
Zarbon glared at her but got on his scouter. “Yes, Lord Frieza, sorry to bother you. Yes, you did. Because, my lord, there’s a Saiyan woman here that wishes to speak to you. I don’t know, my lord. I don’t know that she is, my lord.” Zarbon clicked off his scouter. “You’re Vegeta’s intended?” Lyri smirked at him but didn’t reply. Frieza walked out a moment later. He smirked evilly and approached her.
“My dear girl,” he said, “I apologize for keeping you waiting. Had I known that you were calling, I would have come to you sooner.”
“No apology needed, my lord,” Lyri told him.
“Zarbon, take these two and leave us. We have much to discuss.” Zarbon nodded and took the soldiers with him. “Tell me, my dear, were you able to do as I asked?” Frieza asked.
“That’s why I’m here my lord,” Lyri told him.
“Oh,” Frieza said, surprised.
“My lord, I was not able to convince Vegeta to leave with you,” Lyri continued.
“Hmm...” Frieza said, “Well, that’s rather disappointing, now isn’t it? But, we did have a deal, my dear, and you’ve not held up your end of the bargain.” He raised his finger, pointing at her chest.
“That’s why I’ve come to ask for more time, my lord,” she quickly explained.
His eyes narrowed at her. “Go on...”
“If you give me more time, I can not only make Vegeta hate me, but I can also make him want to get away from here...he’d come to you willingly, Lord Frieza,” Lyri told him. Frieza glared at her while he considered it. Slowly, he lowered his hand.
“Fine,” he said, “If I don’t hear from you or Vegeta within a year, I’ll assume that you were unable to keep your word.” He narrowed her eyes at her. “In which case, I will be back, just for you.” He gave her an evil grin and waved her off.
Meanwhile...Vegeta had left right after Lyri’s outburst. He had gone to the training center and tried to numb his thoughts and emotions. Why? Why would she tell him that? Why when they were so close to accomplishing what he wanted...why did she do this? Why did he care? What was she doing to him? He angrily grabbed a weight near his foot and hurled it across the room.
“What’s got your panties in a twist?” Nix asked from the doorway.
Vegeta glared at him, “Isn’t there somewhere your supposed to be?”
“Kakarot is on Lyri duty if that’s what you’re implying,” Nix told him, “So...what’s with the weight throwing?”
“It’s none of your damn business,” Vegeta snapped.
“Damn those panties must really be in a twist,” Nix taunted. Vegeta growled. “The only time you get this upset is when it comes to Lyri...”
“I do not!” Vegeta snapped.
“Oh my gods...” Nix said, “You actually care about her...” Vegeta growled and threw a weight at Nix, who caught it. Nix chucked the weight back towards Vegeta, hitting the exhausted prince in the chest. “You can’t just run away from your emotions or deny that you have any.”
Vegeta moved the heavy weight off him. “I’m not. I don’t feel anything for her...”
“Keep telling yourself that, prince,” Nix said. No sooner did the words leave Nix’s mouth did Kakarot walk up beside Nix.
“What are you guys talking about?” Kakarot asked.
“What in seven hells are you doing here?” Vegeta snapped, “Where’s the woman?”
“Huh? Oh...” Kakarot said sheepishly, “I...uh...lost her?”
“You idiot!” Vegeta yelled before running out of the training center. Nix rolled his eyes and both him and Kakarot followed Vegeta. The three soon burst into Vegeta’s quarters, where Lyri was sitting as Vegeta’s desk.
“What’s the rush?” she asked asked as she turned around.
“Oh sorry, we were playing chase the prince. Didn’t mean to interrupt you,” Nix told her.
“Haha,” Lyri said, rolling her eyes. Vegeta’s scouter went off on the desk next to her. He walked over, picked it up and answered it.
“Lord Frieza,” he said, “Yes, my lord. You’re sure? No, my lord. Yes. Yes. Thank you for the leave, Lord Frieza.” He clicked off the scouter and quickly glared at Lyri. “What the hells did you do?”
“Nothing...” she muttered. Nix shot Lyri a look. She slowly looked at the floor.
“I’ve never met anyone else with a bigger death wish,” Vegeta told her.
“What?” Kakarot asked.
Vegeta, still staring intently at Lyri told them, “Frieza just gave me leave from his ship. While I still had recruits to train. Now tell me, does Frieza ever do that?”
“Not without reason,” Nix told him.
“Exactly. Which makes me wonder what she did,” Vegeta said.
“Does it matter?” Lyri asked, “I’m not dead and you don’t have to return to his service.”
“How much time did you buy us?” Nix asked.
“A year,” Lyri told him.
“Well, let’s not waste it,” Nix said.
“You’re not going yell at her and tell her that she was reckless and stupid?” Kakarot asked, “I wanted to before she convinced me to let her try that plan of hers.”
“Well it doesn’t take much to convince you, you idiot,” Nix said, “And whether it was reckless or not, Lyri bought us time. Let’s not waste it arguing amongst ourselves because we all know if Frieza gets his way, Vegeta’s new bed will be the one he shares with Frieza.”
Vegeta and Lyri growled. “What the fuck are you talking about?” he snapped.
“That wasn’t clear enough for you? Ok, let me spell it out. Frieza. Wants. You. On. Your. Knees. Or. In. His. Bed,” Nix said slowly, “He wants to fuck you. Or you to fuck him. Who knows.”
Vegeta’s face paled and he looked like he was going to be sick. Lyri stood, glaring at Nix. “That’s not going to happen. Let’s stop torturing Vegeta and start coming up with a plan. Or do we continue with the previous plan?”
“Continue with the previous plan,” Vegeta said.
Lyri nodded. “We should start tomorrow. Frieza is still here and is leaving tonight. We don’t need him or his people to find out that something is going on.”
“Ok, then see you guys tomorrow!” Kakarot said cheerfully before leaving.
“I’m going to go follow him and make sure he doesn’t get into trouble,” Nix said before following Kakarot.
With Kakarot and Nix gone, an awkward silence fell over the room. After a minute or two, Lyri got on her scouter and asked Nix if he could tell Bulma to be ready tomorrow.
“Figured someone should give her a heads up,” she said. Vegeta said nothing, watching her with his arms crossed. Finally he said something.
“Do you not understand that what you did was foolish?”
Lyri angrily turned to face him. “That may be but it was better than doing nothing.”
“You were told not to go to that fucker!” Vegeta yelled.
“And just let you go back with him? Continue to let you be beaten down and miserable? What the hell kind of plan was that?” Lyri yelled back.
“You’ve been told multiple times to not worry about me,” Vegeta started before Lyri cut him off.
“Because you can handle yourself. Yeah, you keep saying that. If you feel that strongly about only relying on yourself, then I guess you don’t need mine or anyone else’s help from now on,” Lyri snapped.
Vegeta left, slamming the door behind him. Lyri groaned and collapsed back onto the chair behind her. Her heart was racing and she had the beginnings of a headache. Why did he have to be an ass about everything? ‘Whatever...’ she thought to herself. She got up and went to take a shower before laying down for a bit. She awoke much later, the sun having set already. Vegeta hadn’t returned and that annoyed her. Lyri walked to the living space and grabbed her scouter. She opened the link to Nix’s comm, hoping he was still up.
“This better be good...” Nix muttered.
“Sorry,” Lyri said, “But...um...have you seen Vegeta?”
“Is he mad? He’s probably training,” Nix told her.
“Yeah. He’s mad. He left and hasn’t come back,” she replied.
Nix groaned. “What happened?”
Feeling bad, Lyri told him, “It’s nothing. I just wanted to see if you had seen him.”
“He got mad at you because of what you did?” Nix asked.
Lyri sighed. “Yeah. When I told him it was better than doing nothing, he left.”
“You know him. He hides from his emotions. He’s training his aggression out. Just leave him be and everything will be fine. If it’ll make you feel better, I’ll go check on him and make sure he hasn’t trained himself to death,” Nix told her.
“No, you don’t need to. I was just...” she sighed sadly, “I was just worried. It’s my fault he’s been down there since yesterday...”
“Don’t beat yourself up. He...has problems dealing with his emotions,” Nix told her.
“I know but...it just sucks...” she muttered, “Thanks...go rest up and I’ll see you in a couple of hours.” She disconnected from his comm and went back to bed. She didn’t sleep. She couldn’t. She hated fighting with Vegeta. Morning came and Vegeta still hadn’t returned. Lyri got up, dressed and ate some food that had been brought to her. She pulled her hair up into a ponytail and left Vegeta’s quarters, making her way down to the science lab. Bulma looked up and smiled at her friend.
“Hey,” she said, “The guys haven’t shown up yet. Wanna call them over the scouter?” Lyri shrugged. “Everything ok?”
“It’s...been better...” Lyri admitted.
“Want to talk about it?” Bulma asked.
Lyri shook her head. “I’ll call Nix and see when they’re coming.” She connected her comm to Nix’s. “When are you and Kakarot getting here? And is Vegeta still coming?”
“Kakarot and I are on our way,” Nix told her. He disconnected from her comm and Lyri turned her comm system off.
“Nix and Kakarot are on their way,” she told Bulma.
“And Vegeta?” Bulma asked. Lyri shrugged. Minutes later, Kakarot and Nix entered the science lab, Vegeta behind them. Though he tried hard not to, he looked exhausted.
“You should go get some sleep,” Lyri said.
“That’s what we said. He won’t listen,” Kakarot said.
“I’m fine,” Vegeta muttered.
“You sure?” Bulma asked, “You don’t look fine. In fact, you look like death. Go get some sleep. This probably is going to take more than a day, so just come along next time.”
“I said I’m fine!” Vegeta snapped.
“Ok, then,” Lyri said, “So...how are we going to get there? It took Nix and me a whole damn day just to get back from there.”
“I have something we can use,” Bulma said. She reached into her pocket and pulled out a capsule.
“How is a capsule going to help us?” Lyri asked.
“It’s not just any capsule,” Bulma explained, “Its a capsule car.”
“What the fuck is a car?” Nix asked.
“You’re kidding, right?” Bulma asked, “You guys are extremely technologically advanced and have been to multiple other planets...and you don’t know what a car is?”
“You’re aware that we can fly, right?” Nix asked.
“So, then why aren’t we flying?” Bulma asked, huffed.
Lyri inhaled, “Let’s get going. The sooner we get there, the sooner we can find what we need.” She walked around Kakarot, Nix and Bulma. As she passed Vegeta, she glanced at him but he didn’t acknowledge her. Hurt, she continued on, heading outside. Bulma quickly caught up with her.
“Hey, everything is gonna be ok,” she told the Saiyan woman.
“I hope so,” Lyri told, “I just want to get there and find the shit we need.”
Bulma whispered, “Did something happen between you and Vegeta?”
“Whispering won’t help, remember? Saiyans have sensitive hearing,” Lyri told her.
“Sorry!” Bulma said. She turned and gave Vegeta an apologetic smile. He huffed, turning his head away. She rolled her eyes and turned back around. “Geez. But I’m guessing that I’m right and that something did happen. So, what happened?”
“Nothing,” Lyri said.
“Oh, come on, Lyri! I’m your best friend! What happened?” Bulma asked.
“Nothing,” Lyri told her again.
“Please tell me,” Bulma asked.
“There’s nothing to tell,” Lyri said, irritated.
Bulma turned to Kakarot and Nix. “You two have been her shadows recently. Do you know?”
“Nope!” Kakarot told her.
“Nix, do you know?” Bulma asked.
“Yes, I do. And no, I’m not telling you,” Nix told her.
“Oh, come on! Please? I’ll be your best friend,” Bulma pleaded.
“Enough!” Vegeta snapped, his voice echoing into the desert before them.
Bulma jumped, surprised. She glared at Vegeta, but said nothing. She reached into her pocked and pulled out the capsule, pushing down the plunger and tossing it onto the sand. POOF! The smoke cleared and a small hover bus stood before them. “Huh...guess I grabbed the bus by mistake. Oh, well! It’ll work just the same!” She climbed in and got behind the control panel. The Saiyans climbed in after her, Nix elbowing Lyri our of the way to sit next to Bulma.
“Dick,” Lyri muttered.
“I’ve been there and back to the capital multiple times. You’ve been once. So, you tell me...who’s the better person to give her directions?” Nix asked. Lyri rolled her eyes and took a seat in the back. Kakarot sat directly behind Bulma and Nix. Vegeta stood, almost as if refusing to sit. Bulma fired up the bus and they took off. It took a few hours, but they eventually made it. The group got off the bus and Bulma capsulated it, tucking it back into her pocket.
“We should probably split up, huh?” Bulma asked as they reached the door.
“We’d get more done that way. Nix, you wanna take Bulma to where she can get the most information?” Lyri asked.
“Yeah,” Nix said, leading Bulma away.
“Kakarot,” Lyri said, “Try not to break anything.” Kakarot nodded and the three broke off, going their separate ways in the facility.
Meanwhile...King Vegeta looked up as someone knocked on his door. “Enter,” he said. A guard walked in and bowed his head. “What is it?”
“Your majesty, there’s something you need to know,” he said.
“Spit it out,” King Vegeta snapped.
“Sir, building one has been breached. This is the second time it’s happened with in the last week,” the guard said.
“What do you mean it’s been breached?” King Vegeta asked.
“The alarm has gone off twice, sir. It could be faulty wiring, but we don’t know for sure,” he said.
“It will be dealt with,” King Vegeta said, dismissing him. He grabbed his scouter and opened the link to Kiki’s comm. “Listen closely. I’m sending you the map to a building. You are to take a team and investigate why the alarm has been going off. Take care of it. Do not disappoint me.”
