Ozuma ran as fast as he could. His mind is blank, dry from fear. It felt like he was running on empty, but his feet knew where he was going. The sky was dark and heavy, almost like it were night out. Lost in his own thoughts, he looks beside himself and sees Rei. No, not Rei. Rei's long black hair, running down his back blowing as he moved.
"Se... Serina?"
Rei looked over at the boy, confusion on his face. He wasn't sure what Ozuma had said, but something about the way he had said it bothered him a bit. "Don't worry Ozuma, we'll be at my house pretty soon." He assured the boy.
Another set of foot steps was heard. It was Kai- No! It's her! Dawn! She wants to kill them!
The Balaji child's heart pounded in his ears, his breathing became frantic and ragged. He could feel his chest moving up and down, though it wasn't because he was breathing hard. It was because he had broken into a fit of hysterical laughter. Stopping dead in his tracks, Ozuma grabs at his hair, hunching over with laughter.
"Ozuma?" Rei, who'd been passed by the shorter male ran past him, doubling back to get the boy.
"Get away from me!" He swung at him but missed as Rei had stepped back from the attack.
"Ozuma, what's the matter with you?!" He was shouting now, because Ozuma was laughing so loudly, he didn't think he'd hear him otherwise.
Reaching for the boy again, his hand was smacked away. Then Ozuma took off. He was heading in the direction of the lake.
You won't get me! None of you will! He continued rushing forward.
"Ozumaaa!"
But Ozuma couldn't hear him. Rei's voice was swallowed up by a bang of thunder. Rain began to pound down onto the ground.
"Rei, what's going on?" Kai shouted over the storm.
"It's Ozuma, he's..." Forget it. It was no use shouting over the noise, so with the wave of his hand he gestured for Kai to follow him.
Ozuma could see it all perfectly. He IS dreaming. But this time, he will be the victor. Looking around, Ozuma locates a large rock. Picking it up, he hides behind a thick tree, waiting for Serina and Dawn to come.
"Ozuma!?" Rei called.
Kai placed his hands beside his mouth to project. "Ozuma!"
The two boys looked this way and that. Rei prayed to God that the Balaji boy hadn't jumped into the lake already. With the state he was in, there was a chance that he wouldn't stay afloat and he'd drown. Just as they had drowned. Rei bent over, he felt sick.
Kai looked at his love, then turned his head hearing a voice shouting as it ran his way. "Ozuma?"
The boy had the rock in his hands, held over his head and he rushed at Kai with a startling speed. The older male only had time to gasp as Ozuma brought the rock down onto his face. Lucky for Kai he's taller than Ozuma, the boy had enough force to break his nose. But since he fell short, he only busted the side of Kai's mouth.
"Stay away from meeee!" He raised the rock again, but Kai caught his hands.
"Ozuma," he struggled against his frantic movements, that were trying to knock him off his feet. "Snap out of it!" Before he could catch himself, he fell to the ground. Ozuma had tripped him without his seeing it.
"Die! DIE! DIE!" He strained his self trying to bring the rock down onto Kai again.
"Ozuma!" Kai tried again.
But all the mixed child heard was the sound of her shrill giggles.
Rei ran at the two knocking Ozuma off of Kai, keeping him pinned down by the waist. The Balaji child screamed at the top of his lungs. His screams were soon cut off as rain water filled his open mouth. He sputtered and coughed, turning his head to the side letting the water out. He's in the lake. He felt the water incase him, and drown him. He's going to die, he was sure of it.
Rei climbed over the boy to shield him from the rain.
"Get off of me-e-e..." His words weren't so loud now, and he just began to break down and cry.
"Ozuma..." Rei said close to the male's ear.
Ozuma sniffled, recognizing the voice only at the 'Ma' as the rest was said as a woman in his mind. He looked at Rei blinking. Serina... Rei... Serina... the image was blurred. Dawn walked up beside them and Ozuma began to scream again.
"Ozuma stop! It's only Kai!" He looked to the Russian with eyes that told him to say something.
Kai knelt down, placing a hand onto the frightened teen. He thought he was truly losing his mind. Ozuma was fine a moment ago, and now, he's a shrieking mess. "Ozuma, it's me. Kai."
But he had no reaction, he just continued to struggle in Rei's grip.
Rei smoothed back the boy's wet bangs and whispered. "I'm sorry." Raising his hand he brought it down onto the boy's neck, knocking him unconscious. When he fell limp in the Chinese male's arms, Rei stood up with support from Kai. "Let's go to my house."
With a nod, Kai led the way through the woods, the other two boys right behind him.

"Is he awake yet?" Rei asks as he walks into his bedroom.
The entire bedroom compliments his taste in living: Chinese decorations were littered here and there, words up on the walls that said something Kai couldn't read. A desk that looked like it doubled for working and storing clothes, made from cherry oak like most of the wood in Rei's room. The bed is large, covered with red, black and white colors.
"No... then again, you did hit him pretty hard." Kai replied.
A groan came from Ozuma, and his hand came up to his neck, blindly though, as his eyes are still closed.
"Hey..." Kai spoke, trying to further rouse the boy. "Can you open your eyes?"
Ozuma swallowed first to check if he even had a voice to speak with, "Yeah." He blinked a few times, seeing Kai come into view before fading back out of it. Then, blinking harder he opened his eyes and looked around. "Where am I?" He asks right away. His vision is still a little shot from being in the dark for so long, he thought the two boys might have brought him back home.
Rei stepped into view now. "You're at my house. Would you like some tea?"
He was already setting down a tray with three cups on it, it also contained: a sugar dish filled with sugar cubes, the tea pitcher itself, sterling silver at that and a little tub that looked to contain honey- or some other sort of sticky liquid gel. Lastly, there was a well-sized plate stacked with muffins and bagels. Ozuma seemed like he was hungry before and Rei didn't wanna be rude by not having something for them to eat.
Ozuma sat up slowly, his brain was fuzzy. He had no clue how he got to Rei's house. He didn't remember running there. Searching his memory, all he could remember was the dream. They chased him through the woods, the rain... consciously, he felt himself up and down for wetness.
"Sorry, but Kai and I had to dry you off and we helped you into some of my clothes."
Ozuma nods, just to show that he understood. It was actually kind of embarrassing. All this was just like with Zeo, only he wasn't gonna get a chance to kiss Rei. That thought caused him to look away. "What happened?" He accepts a prepared cup of tea from Rei, thanking him with a glance. Taking a sip, he winced from the heat.
"You tell us," Kai spoke. "You were the one who started to attack us for no reason."
That didn't sound right. "I did?"
"Yeah... you just sort of freaked out." Rei sat on the bed, a hand came down on Ozuma's leg. Ozuma blushed. "You were trying to get to the lake... you were... trying to drown yourself."
A bang of thunder caused the boy to jump; a little of the tea swayed from the cup onto the blanket that covered his legs up to his waist. "...I'm sorry."
"It's okay." He got up to close his curtains. Ozuma was glad for the darkness- or should he be? He was so damned confused now.
"What's got you so scared anyway?" Asks Kai.
Ozuma saw that he had merely cleaned the bruise from a beating instead of covering it with a bandage. Touching his own cheek, he noticed that he had a clean bandage on. "...It's hard to explain... It's hard to understand too... I don't know where to start from."
"Just... start from the beginning, when things started to happen to you." Rei helped.
"Okay... This is the first time my family has ever moved, ever since I was adopted I've lived in Kita... But my Dad got transferred out here. Anyway, we were on the road just a few hours away from the house. It was getting dark, about to rain, so my Dad said we were gonna stop in at a hotel for the night... That was when we first saw them. The Iwakawa's. The two of them were standing out by the side of the highway, gray and wet like it had rained and they were caught in it."
"Don't tell me your parents gave them a ride." Kai questioned.
Ozuma shook his head quickly meeting Kai's gaze before turning it away. Better to look at his lap or Rei, he was less intimidating. "We didn't stop, but we stared... I can't help but think that's what started it, because when we got to the hotel my parents left me, and I heard tapping on the window..." He swallowed his nerves back from the memory.
Rei reached over and rubbed the male's shoulder to calm him.
"Well, you can guess the sign was there- stuck to the window like it was mocking me."
"What sign?"
Rei spoke up this time to answer his boyfriend's question. "Mrs. Iwakawa had a sign with her, it said 'Run from Dawn'."
"Run from dawn,"
"...Yeah, I thought it was some kind of joke- my dad thought they were hippies." He smiled. "But no, they were trying to warn me. But I'm getting ahead of myself. About a week ago, when we moved into the house it seemed like any ordinary house." He cleared his throat. "At first, everything was fine- oh, besides Tyson and his friends scaring me running around in the woods."
"Is that what that noise was?" The Russian sounded annoyed at the memory. "We could hear them all the way at the lake."
Ozuma smiled. "Yeah, that was their rendition of an Indian call." Shrugging, he went on with his story. "When everyone left, it started getting dark out and my dad went to turn on the lights, but they wouldn't come on... It turns out, someone broke the light bulbs- all of them."
Rei drank from his cup uneasily. Kai kept his gaze tight on the mixed child while he listened with the intensity of his gray eyed gaze on him.
"My dad took some of my n-night lights," he staggers over that word with embarrassment; no one laughed. "And brought them downstairs with him. I was alone but, I didn't feel like I was alone, you know?"
The two listeners nod to this.
"My parents went to get some light bulbs from the store, I guess they felt bad about taking my protection away from the darkness, I don't know, but they left me there alone. That was the first time I heard them. I'm not sure which of them it was, the voice was faint but I know I heard someone."
"Did you hear what they said?" Asks Kai.
Ozuma nodded, "Yeah, it was 'Did you hear that'." Again, he shrugs.
Kai blinked at that. "...'Did you hear that?' What does that mean?"
"I don't know." He jumped a bit as another loud crash of thunder banged through the sky. Ozuma felt hot under the collar when Rei crawled over to him, embracing him in his arms. And with a shake in his voice, he went on with his story. "W- well, I freaked out of course- who wouldn't...?! I stayed outside until my parents got back." He quieted in an odd fashion then bit his bottom lip. "Actually, I think I went to sleep because when I woke up, I was back in my bedroom."
The sky was obviously listening and it was an ominous listener at that. Booming whenever it seemed to hear something that it didn't like, as the Indian child told his tale of what went on in his house.
"The next thing that happened was when I went to the lake with Zeo... I saw the Iwakawa's standing by a tree, they were watching us. I ran... as fast as I could. But..." He shook his head. "I don't know, they followed us so quickly because they were already in the house by the time Zeo and I got there... At least that's what I thought."
Flashes of what happened that day went through his mind. He and Zeo were about to kiss, the giggles start and they're shoved at the door way. Had he known there was someone in the house, he never would have gone back in. But seeing Tyson outside he was so sure that the giggler must have been Max. His friends back in his old neighborhood always came in and out of his house, just like he with theirs. But it wasn't Max at all. It was her.
"Hn." Scoffs Kai crossing his arms over his chest. "Some friends."
"You're telling me... they constantly laugh at my fear of the dark and now..." He felt tears. "I'm sure they'd get a big kick out of the fact that I'm afraid of the light."
"Hey," shrugs the raven haired boy. "what is the moon but the worlds night light. You can't blame yourself for being afraid of the dark anymore than you can blame yourself for being afraid of light."
Kai smiled at Rei, he's so understanding even when he barely knows someone.
"Turns out, it wasn't Max, he was visiting with his grandmother. So I was alone in my house with the little girl and didn't even know it. I had just assumed it was the couple because... I didn't know they had a kid." The Balaji boy shook his head. "Her giggling still sends chills up my back. She's been so close to me, so many times. It was so dark in the hall that I panicked and sat down, that's when she began to push me toward the stairs."
"You're kidding?" Rei looked into Ozuma's eyes.
The boy shook his head. "She planned to push me down the stairs and she would have, if I didn't manage to get into the bathroom." He picked up his tea cup and swirled the drink around. "I heard Mrs. Iwakawa crying... unknowing, I turned on the bathroom light and there she was, sitting on the toilet seat, pretending to cry. That confirmed that they were in my house and always had been. And that they were the ones I heard that night my parents went to the store."
"That's weird." Kai murmurs.
"It was... The cops didn't believe me, and neither did anyone else. Wednesday... I was asleep when I heard someone talking. A girl's voice... She was playing with something I had in my closet, I know because I cracked my eyes and saw that the door was open and I know I had closed it."
They could tell the boy was re-living every moment painfully as this thought and that were explained even to his self that there, in his house, lurks a solid and very real little girl, bent on hurting him and his family.
"She whispered things to me, 'Ozuma's asleep' she said. By then I had stopped trusting the light. After Mr. Iwakawa attacked me in the pantry, when Zeo locked me in I-..."
"Zeo locked you in the pantry?" Rei was taken aback. Zeo seemed like he really liked Ozuma, from what he could tell when he was over at the boy's house.
"It was a game- at first, but..." He shrugs. "It happened not long after you had left, Rei." He turned his green eyes on the Kon boy. "Anyhow, he didn't mean to do it... But still, in a way he helped me to figure out the family's agenda. It protected me."
"So you mean to tell me that you didn't even have your night lights in?" Kai wondered. "Must have been hard getting over your fear of the dark."
"It was... I carried a flashlight with me everywhere though. My mom didn't understand my sudden change in fears anymore than I did. But she respected it. So there we were in the dark, everyday. I listened to the couple talking to each other, never loud enough to make anything out, but I knew they were there." He grabbed a hand full of the blanket. "Dawn was there with me once, in the bathroom... she laughed a lot and played on the water to the point where I had just gotten out."
"Scary." Rei said to himself.
"She took my mask, to mess with me... I saw it laying on my bed one night. I didn't even notice that there was a body attached to it, I was too busy looking at the mask itself."
"And you're saying that you saw her back there when we were over at your house?" Asks Kai.
Ozuma shrugged. "I don't know if I saw her per say. But someone opened the closet door in the room, I panicked and ran." Looking at the Russian he frowned. "Believe me, Kai, I was thinking about it while we were laying there... I think that Dawn is still alive and lives in the house with me and my family."
"But what about her parents?"
Again he shrugs. "I think the reason they come to the light is to turn it off, they don't want her skin condition to get worse, so they scare you by appearing in the light."
"If that's the case then why are they turning them on now?" The Russian questions.
"I don't know... I'm confused myself. But I do know this, they can't see anything because Dawn tore their eyes out of their heads."
Now Rei knew he was gonna be sick.
"But they know you're there, because they can hear you."
Everyone was quiet a moment. Thinking their own thoughts.
"So the question is," Kai began. "Are they trying to warn you and help you, or are they messing with you until their daughter finally kills you and your family?"
"...I don't know... I'm just gonna have to find out..."
