Homunculus
While the Alchemists far above made their preparations, in the lost city tucked away in the depths below Central, a bright light flashed within the main wing of an old manor. The gate appeared in a mist of white, its doors opened releasing what appeared to be a young boy about the age of ten. Long shaggy raven hair wisped out on all sides of his head, deep violet eyes were wide with fear as he stumbled onto the floor. As soon as he was released, the Gate’s doors thundered shut and vanished out of site. The boy gasped softly then let out a sigh as he sat back, stretching his legs out. From first glace, one could tell there was something strange about him. His right arm was deeply tanned while the other was a pale white and his left leg was also far darker than his right. These limbs were not his. A jagged scar was on his right shoulder, a wound he had no recollection of getting, and on his right foot was a tattoo – the Orobouros - in red paint.
Tears weld up in his eyes and he flung himself forward, landing on all fours, and pounded the ground with his fists screaming, “Sh-Shut up! Leave me alone! Shut…. Up!!!!” A loud cry of a young baby still echoed in the back of his head, the one sound he was most vulnerable to - it makes him extremely weak and upset. He crouched down and curled into a ball, grasping his head with his hands as he cried out.
A distant click was heard and the doors to the main elevator opened. The tall slim figure of the Fuhrer’s secretary, Juliet Douglas, stepped out looking at the boy intently with her violet eyes. Mocha brown hair was pulled back and tucked neatly behind her ears, allowing clear view of her surroundings. The lilac suit she wore as her uniform revealed she had just returned from her duties in Central above. Seeing the boy, rolling on the ground in an immense state of pain, she dashed towards him.
“Wrath-kun! Are you alright!” She called to him. Juliet paused in her steps as she saw the boy attempt to stand up.
His youthful child-like eyes locked on hers and a few tears rolled down his cheeks. He ran to her, arms outstretched and cried out, “Mama! Mama!” The boy wrapped his arms tightly around her waist and buried his face in the cloth of her shirt. She sighed softly and held him close to her, stroking his hair with one hand.
“It’s alright…. she cooed, attempting to soothe him. “Yes, Mama’s here…”
Wrath peered up at her, sniffling as tears cascaded down his face in shimmering waterfalls. “Mama…” he whimpered. “That place…Please, don’t make me go back there…” The boy buried his face against her once more and screamed. “Don’t let –them- take me back to that bad place again! I don’t want to see those doors!”
“You’re fine…everything will be just fine, Wrath…Nobody will make you go back there...You will never have to see the Gate again…” The woman soothed, holding him and rubbed his back.
“That’s right…” came a deep yet eerie voice. What appeared to be a flatchested young woman wearing a black cropped tank top and black skort peered over one of the balconies, the deep forest green hair in worn in thick dreadlocks and held back out of the Eurasian face with a black headband. The newcomer cackled at his plight. The person pushed himself or herself up and leaped up and over the railing, landing on all fours on the floor below before the two others and stood up, brushing their self off.
“Envy…” the woman whispered softly.
“Heh,” the eldest of the homunculi smirked at her. “That’s right Wrath…You’re back from the Gate and you’re back for good. ‘That person’ wants us to perform a very important task for him…right Sloth?” He cast a glance at the young woman and she nodded.
“Yes. Quite right…” she replied softly.
“Sloth, did you record all of what’s been going on…considering the likes of the Fullmetal pipsqueak and his brother?” Envy asked the woman with a stern look upon his face.
“Yes, I did…” she replied in her usual soft-spoken motherly manner. Juliet Douglass, a.k.a. Sloth, released Wrath and motioned him to step aside then reached in the pocket inside her jacket and pulled out a rather stuffed manila file folder. She flipped it open and glanced down from it, reading it aloud. “ Recently, the Fullmetal Alchemist has taken in an apprentice alchemist- Tenshi Hikaru the Lightning Alchemist. Not long after that, both he, Alphonse and Tenshi were sent on a mission to Iserlohnn accompanied by State doctor Seris Ferguson to rescue a Princess Katarin who was being held hostage by the rogue Crimson Alchemist Zolof Kimbley. They were to arrest Kimbley and bring him to Central to stand trial for crimes against the State. Colonel Roy Mustang, the Flame Alchemist was the one who authorized this. They brought back the Princess unharmed to Central but did not succeed in capturing Kimbley. Currently, Edward Elric is residing in Central Hospital suffering from major wounds and a recent automail repair. Mr. Hikaru, who has also suffered inflictions to his auto-mail, is there as well. Accompanying them at this location are Colonel Roy Mustang, automail mechanic Winry Rockbell, Dr. Seris Ferguson, Princess Katarin Engel who is also known as the Midnight Alchemist, Alphonse Elric, Major Armstrong, and Lieutenant Colonel Maes Hughes. Edward Elric and Tenshi Hikaru reported that they received their injuries after facing off multiple times with a mysterious ‘White-haired Man’.”
“`That person’.” Envy intervened lowering his gaze.
“Yes, ‘that person’.” Sloth replied, nodding her head.
“So, the pipsqueak seems to have already faced off against the immense powers that lie in our bastard of a master and lived to talk about it.” he chuckled. “Which makes him all the more vulnerable to what he’s planning on cooking up next.”
“That’s right,” she agreed. “The Fuhrer, Pride, and I have already been notified, and Lust and Gluttony are already on site preparing for the next phase. What about Greed?”
“Like I care what Greed knows and does!” Envy scoffed and glared. “He has his own agendas which he attends to. Such as running with his gang of chimeras from Lab 5.”
“That may be true,” Sloth nodded. “But he must know something, because one of the first ones to attack was Kimbley and he’s part of Greed’s gang. Maybe the master has something else planned with Greed that’s not part of what we’re doing.”
“As I said before and will say again. Whatever Greed does, I don’t care about! He’s always been such a rebel for all we know he could be out trying to get –us-. That bastard’s tried it before! Which is why I sealed him up years ago in the first place…” he snarled, glowering.
“So, how are you planning on making the first move to draw the Elrics out?” she asked him, changing the subject.
“I’ll capture the least likely of their team to disappear, and have them draw all their attention to Central where it will be the easiest place to push the master’s full plan forward.” Envy replied, smirking at the thought.
“Capture the Divines?” she asked smoothly.
“Exactly.” He grinned. “We already know the location of three of them. And by drawing them all together out in the open, it will be easiest to capture them.”
“And at the same time, kill the Elrics to fulfill your revenge against –him-.” The woman sighed, lowering her gaze.
“This time, I –will- kill that Fullmetal pipsqueak and find that bastard and show him what I did to that precious son of that beloved wife of his!” Envy growled, leering.
Sloth turned her head to one side and looked down, wisps of her hair shielding her eyes from sight. The woman he referred to…She knew all too well who that was. “And then…. you’ll kill him too?” she asked softly.
“Of course!” Envy snapped. “I won’t let that bastard get away with what he did!”
She turned around so she could look at Envy once more and sighed. “Are you sure this plan of yours, as well as the plan of the Master’s will succeed?”
By this time, Envy has already made his way to the back of the room and opened the door to the elevator. “I’m sure of it.” He replied as he stepped in and turned around to face her. In a flash of bright blue light, his body morphed and took the form of Lieutenant Major Riza Hawkeye and he grinned at her. “It can’t fail.” He said as the gates to the elevator shut and he disappeared up and out of sight.
Wrath who spent the whole time quivering and clinging onto his ‘Mama’s’ skirt, was not sure what to make of all this. He let out a small sigh and leaned against her, looking out at the place where Envy had just been.
Sloth placed a loving hand on his head and looked up at the ceiling. She sighed softly and closed her eyes. The woman…. and the man Envy wanted dead. Those boys…She knew them. Her past self knew them very well. Subconsciously, she said softly, “Hohenheim…. of Light…”
Meanwhile, in a distant city in another world, a tall man stood at a street corner. Medium length golden-blonde hair was held back in a ponytail and his shaggy beard showed he had been traveling for a long time. He wore an old fashioned brown suit and a pair of rectangular spectacles was perched on his nose. His grip on his brown leather suitcase tightened, as he disappeared in a flash of white light and stood before the great doors of the Gate. “Trisha….” Was all he whispered before the doors opened…
