A Happy surprise

Chapter fifteen;

A happy surprise

Zechs chuckled.

No, the dark haired youth who was hiding in the sofa was never going to accept that. The boy would rather breaak every bone in his body then humiliate himself by using the help of crutches.

He would have to continue to carry him around.

He smiled, pleased with himself.

“What?” Sally said to his amusement as she stepped in front of the couch, looking down on the dark, tousled head there. “Wufei?”

He wouldn’t look at her, but she dismissed it, thinking that the two of them had argued about something again. “The two of you really have to learn how to get along.” She muttered and sat down beside him.

“Wufei, I have a surprise for you!”
“I, I hea.. haerd.”

She smiled and laid the crutches in his lap.

“What do you think?” She said. “Are you ready to start walking yet?”

A flicker of guilt flashed over Wufei’s features, he had given her his word that he would not stand on his own two legs unless he was in an extremely dangerous situation where walking could save his life, and still he had been up this morning, and a few times before that...

Luckily for him that was something the woman didn’t noticed this time, and he was relieved for that.

He gave a forced smile and searched the items in his lap.

A frown appeared over his forehead when he realized just what those items were.

“No,” He said with effort. “Don neeed..”
“Yes you do, and it will help you regain your strength much faster.”

He shook his head and pushed the crutches back to her.

“Trust me on this, will you! I’m a doctor too, I know what I am talking about.”
“No, I don-”
“You DO need them, you just don’t WANT them.” She said firmly. “But you will use them or I will personally make sure that you will stay tied up in Zechs’s bed for the rest of your life!”

Wufei froze.

“Oh,” She turned to the blond man. “I think I’ve finally found something to use against him!”
“No,” Wufei interrupted before Zechs could open his mouth. “No, I...”

“I uss theen.”
“Ah, that’s good!” Sallt said with an even wider smile. “And don’t you worry, you’ll be able to walk perfectly fine on your own any week now!”

...Any week now... ... ... Wufei’s mind echoed. So it would take weeks for him to be able to leave. To go home...

Home to what?

To being alone again?

Sally didn’t stay for very long this time, after she had made sure that Wufei wouldn’t throw the crutches away she said her goodbyes and left without being threatened even once by Zechs, who was quick to lock the door after her.

Wufei was actually disappointed. For once he really hadn’t wanted her to leave. He was scared of what might happen if he was left alone with the man right now.

And he really didn’t want to know either...

He heard the door ‘click’ locked and then the man’s heavy steps was he walked his way back to the couch.

If he was going to do anything to get himself out of this situation, now would be the right time to do so.

He sighed, and rose from the couch. Maybe he knew one thing that could work. When he stood up he lowered the pair of crutches to the floor and steadied his weight over them as he slowly made his way back to the bedroom.

There was a falter in Zechs’s steps which made him aware of the fact that he had either surprised the man by actually using the crutches or by the fact that he was walking to the bedroom.

Then that hit him too.

He growled and wished that the man had chosen to place his books somewhere else. But the man hadn’t.

Zechs was following him, hesitantly, and he probably had confusion written with big letters all over his face and stance.

Wufei smiled. Yes, that would have been a sight to see... or his face when he realizes that I am NOT going to lay on the bed and wait for him to- He stopped himself from finishing that sentence.

He walked directly over to the small table under the window, then he suddenly stoped right in front of that large window.

Light?

He looked up at the source, and shook his head. He wasn’t sure if he was so use to the dark now that he had started to imagine things or if the light actually came from the window. Which meant that his eyes were getting better!

Another shake and he dismissed that thought too.

Now was not the best time to think of such things.

One of his hands searched the table, and picked up the first book that came in contact with his hand. He really didn’t care which one it was as long as it was able to get him out of whatever Zechs had meant with ‘we’ll finish this later.’

Knowing that the man was still standing in the threshold he handed him the book before he walked passed him and back into the livingroom. Back to the couch.

Zechs hadn’t objected.

“You want me to read to you?” He asked dumbfound.

Wufei stopped to nod.

“Wufei,” Zechs sighed and shook his head. “No, it doesn’t matter. Let’s go and sit down.” He said disappointedly. Maybe he had taken things a little too far a little too soon because Wufei was apparently trying very har to ignore what had happened before.

Zechs had started to read from the beginning of the book, and though Wufei was already halfway through it he didn’t say anything. That way he could spend the first chapters thinking about other things.

Zechs on the other hand, hadn’t been all that keen on reading ‘The rag nymph’, but as the story went on, the harder he fell for it.

The book wasn’t bad at all, nor had it been some silly love story either.

It was quite tragic actually...

Though he would much rather have his small china doll moaning under him right now.

And he would have had that, if it wasn’t for Sally and her surprise.

Yes, it had really been a ‘happy’ surprise, that Sally had brought the crutches that is. Wufei had actually enjoyed their kisses, and if Sally hadn’t come and ruined it all Wufei would never had been able to wheedle himself out of it even if he had wanted to.

Wufei was attracted to him after all.
