Vegeta's dark eyes cracked open as the sun beamed in through the open window. Giana was still sleeping soundly next to him where she had been for more than a week now. He didn't mind her there. Actually, he loved having her there. Her warm presence was more than he could have hoped for. The nightmares that constantly plagued his mind were gone and he awoke feeling much more rested. Nothing ever happened, not for lack of wanting it to but more so because he didn't want to ruin what they were developing. He gently pulled his arm out from under her, careful not to wake her just yet. They had planned a training session for the day but he didn't dare wake her a second before he had to. She never was and never would be a "morning person." He smiled down at her before quietly opening a dresser drawer and pulling out his training clothes. He quickly changed his pants and pulled off his shirt.
"Alright!"
She giggled behind him.
"What a sight to wake up to!"
He spun around. His face flushed a bright pink.
"Shut up."
He threw his night shirt at her.
"Don't be childish."
"Oh Vegeta!"
She threw it back.
"I'm playing."
He pulled on his clean shirt and dug his socks out of his bottom drawer.
"Why do you put them in the bottom drawer? Everyone puts them in the top."
"I'm not everyone."
He smirked at her over his shoulder.
Her smile made his hands tremble. She was so beautiful, even if she had just woken up.
"It's time to train."
She fell back against the pillows.
"It's time to sleep!"
She laughed burring her face into the blanket.
"Get up!"
He yanked the blanket off of her.
"Let's go!"
He jumped on to the bed, bouncing her. She grabbed a pillow and slammed it into his face. He yanked it out of her hands and hit her back.
"You wench!"
He yelled, trying not to laugh.
"Get out of my bed!"
He shouted again, giving her a good shove. Her arm caught his waist. Her back hit the floor with a loud thud. He came tumbling down on top of her. They both laughed.
"You crushed me! I can't train today!"
She giggled, trying to catch her breath. Vegeta leaned his head against her shoulder as he laughed. Her fingers rested on the back of his neck. He leaned back to look at her. Her green eyes sparkled at him. Their laughter slowly faded. Vegeta's body pulsed. His lips trembled. He smirked as she bit her bottom lip. He slowly leaned forward, wanting nothing more than her lips on his. Her rose petal lips brushed against the tip of his nose. Her body shook under him. He could almost feel her muscles reaching out to him. His fingers tangled into hers as he pinned her arms to the floor. Her thighs tightened against his hips.
"Are you ok?"
Goku pushed the door open.
"Woah! Sorry!"
He covered his eyes.
"It's fine, Goku. We fell."
Giana sighed.
"We will be down in a minute."
"Ok..."
He laughed.
"Whatever you say!"
The door closed.
Vegeta sighed, pushing himself off of her and back on to the bed. His head fell into his hands. He ran his fingers through his hair. His frustration was obvious.
"Hey."
She touched his shoulder as she sat next to him.
"Stop."
He pushed her hand away.
"Vegeta..."
She muttered.
"What?"
He shouted, looking over at her.
She jumped.
"What do you want?"
"I just..."
She watched him, a bit terrified to finish her sentence.
"I better go get dressed."
"Yeah. I'd say so."
He growled.
She frowned at him before lifting off of the bed a disappearing into the hall. Vegeta couldn't hide his frustration. He wanted her. He wanted her badly. There was always someone or something there to keep her from him. Was that the universe's way of telling him to give up? Maybe it was a way of making him fight for her? He laughed at himself.
"Why even try?"
He mumbled. He took a deep breath as he pushed himself from the bed. He slammed the door as he left his room. He quickly made his way down the stairs and on to the patio where the Z fighters and Bulma were sitting, drinking coffee and snacking on the variation of breakfast foods that had been laid out for them.
"Vegeta! Come grab a bite to eat!"
Krillin waved him over.
Vegeta quietly made his way to the table. He grabbed a handful of cherries and leaned against the table. Everyone was quiet as he ate. He shivered. He could feel the tension in the air. He could feel their eyes on him.
"What?"
He growled.
Bulma giggled before taking a large bite of her apple.
Vegeta's dark eyes darted around the table.
"What the fuck is so funny?"
"Well..."
Bulma giggled.
"Goku here was just saying something about all the noise coming from upstairs earlier."
She winked at him.
"What about it?"
He raised an eyebrow.
"It's just sweet I guess."
She blushed.
"Two long lost lovers finding each other again only to rekindle their relationship."
She sighed, gushing over her fantasy.
"What are you talking about?"
He squinted at the blue haired woman.
"I think you've got it wrong, Bulma."
Yamcha took a bite of his apple.
"Ana isn't stupid enough to hook back up with this lunatic."
He smirked.
"You don't know a god damned thing about her and I!"
He shouted.
"I know you made her promises that you didn't keep. Not because you couldn't..."
Yamcha taunted him.
"but because you didn't want to. I know she spent the last ten years of her life trying to find you and you don't appreciate a second of it or her."
"That's enough, Yamcha."
Goku shot him a stern glance.
"I know that you claimed to love her but the truth is, you don't know what love is. She has shown you love and compassion and you react with violence."
He grunted.
"Enough!"
Goku shouted.
"I know that I've shown her more love in the last year than you have shown her in your entire life."
Yamcha glared at the Saiyan prince.
"I know you don't deserve her."
"I don't deserve her?"
Vegeta yelled.
"You must be joking!"
He laughed.
"I am the prince of all Saiyans! She should be shining my shoes and scrubbing my floors! She should be kissing the ground I walk on! She should feel honored just to be in my presence! She is a peasant, fool of a Blacksmith's, daughter! You two are perfect for each other!"
He smirked.
"Vegeta, stop!"
Goku leapt from the table.
"You are both pathetic parasites! If anyone is undeserving, it's that wench!"
He slammed his fists on to the table.
"Not me!"
The table was silent. Every smile had faded from the group. Goku sighed. Vegeta seemed to flush red as he tried to settle down. His heart raced and ached all at the same time. He regretted his words as soon as they left his mouth, but Yamcha had struck a chord in him that only he could. He loathed him. He wanted nothing more in that moment than to blast him out of existence. He glanced up at Goku, focusing on something over his shoulder.
"Oh no."
Vegeta sighed. He spun around. Giana's green eyes locked on his. Hot tears swelled in her eyes. She stood silent with her arms at her sides.
"How much of that did you hear?"
He managed.
"Enough."
She wiped her cheek before running back into the house.
"A, wait!"
Yamcha jumped from the table and ran after her.
Vegeta looked back at his Saiyan friend. Goku shook his head before sitting back down at the table. He continued to eat.
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
"Ana! Stop!"
Yamcha grabbed her arm.
"Don't touch me!"
She shoved his arm away.
"Ana, I'm sorry!"
He looked at her, wide-eyed."
She sighed.
"He's right."
She muttered.
"I never deserved him, or you, or any of this."
"No. A, that's not true."
Yamcha wiped a tear from her cheek.
"It is!"
She pushed him away from her.
"I don't deserve the bullshit you both have put me through! He doesn't owe me anything! He saved my life!"
"I saved you because I loved you."
Vegeta growled. Giana's eyes shifted toward him.
"I saved you because I couldn't live with myself if I had let you perish with everyone else."
He shoved Yamcha against the wall and out of his way. He cupped her face.
"I had every intention of spending the rest of my life with you, Ana."
She shook her head, looking away from him.
"I'm just a 'peasant, fool of a Blacksmith's, daughter', Vegeta. Your father told me that once too. It's true but..."
She searched his onyx eyes.
"but this peasant loved you. This blacksmith's daughter would have given everything, including my life, to be with you."
She pulled away from him.
"I've spent the last ten years of my life trying to close your chapter. I searched high and low for any trace of your survival, your existence, and I find this..."
She motioned to him.
"you. A scared shell of a man who only truly cares about himself and his own victories. You are a selfish, egotistical, royal pain in my ass! You have done nothing but belittle me, taunt me, and let’s not forget, try to kill me since I've been here! You were right about one thing, Vegeta! You said you weren't the man I knew and you couldn't have been more correct! The man I knew would have killed you in a heartbeat. You have become the one thing you always strived not to be..."
She glared at him.
"And what is that?"
Vegeta's mouth hung open. She had never spoken to him this way.
"Your father."
She managed through grinding teeth.
Vegeta shook as she turned and stomped up the stairs and down the hall. He jumped as her door slammed closed. He looked back at Yamcha, shocked.
"Don't say you didn't deserve that."
Yamcha glared at him before jogging up the stairs after her.
"Ana..."
Yamcha sighed, leaning against her bedroom door.
"Come on. Open the door, babe. Let's go out for a while. We can go to the lake or something. You like it out there."
She yanked open the door.
"Leave me alone."
The door slammed again.
He leaned against the wall in front of the door. He slid to the ground as he sighed. He didn't know what else to do or what else to say to her. She was angry and had every right to be but he hated seeing her like this. He hated to see her hurting. It killed him to know that he had contributed to her pain.
Giana sat at the vanity. She examined herself in the mirror.
"What is wrong with me?"
She asked herself quietly.
Tears swelled in her eyes. She quietly let them roll down her cheeks. Her head ached as she tried to clear it. She wanted nothing more than to be happy. It had been so long since she had truly been happy, she couldn't remember the feeling of true happiness. She rested her forehead against her arms, folded on the vanity's table top. Her body shook as she cried.
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
Yamcha stared at the ceiling, praying she would come out. The guilt he had carried around with him had consumed him quite a while ago. This was not a new feeling to him. He wanted to hug her, hold her, love her the way she deserved.
Vegeta dropped down next to him.
"What are you doing?"
He asked, never looking at the Z fighter.
"Waiting for her to come out so I can make sure she's ok."
Yamcha replied.
"Why?"
The Saiyan prince asked.
"Because I care about her, Vegeta."
His dark eyes shifted toward the Saiyan.
"Hmm."
Vegeta nodded.
"What?"
"I just think it's odd is all. I've never seen anyone care so little and so much at the same time."
He taunted.
"'Care so little?' I've always cared about her!"
Yamcha squinted at him.
"Even when you slept with that Earth woman?"
Vegeta finally looked at him.
Yamcha wanted to hit him but, he was right. In that moment, he wasn't thinking about the woman he claimed to want to spend the rest of his life with, he was thinking about himself.
"You don't know what you have until it's gone."
He muttered.
"I know."
Vegeta toyed with the strap on his boot.
"If there is one thing about me you can trust, it's that I, better than anyone, know that is true."
Yamcha squinted at him again as his hard expression turned sad. He could almost see the wheels turning behind his cold, dark, eyes. He almost felt sorry for the prince.
"This 'thing' between you and I..."
Yamcha sighed.
"It will never stop, will it?"
"Nope."
Vegeta answered quickly.
Yamcha almost laughed.
"You're a lunatic. You know that?"
He smiled.
"It happens to the best of us."
Vegeta shrugged.
Yamcha patted Vegeta's shoulder before pushing himself to his feet.
"Have a good one, man."
"Where are you going?"
Vegeta glared up at him.
"Home."
Yamcha yelled over his shoulder as he walked down the hall.
"Vegeta?"
Giana's eyebrows knitted together as she looked down at him.
"What are you doing?"
Vegeta looked over at Yamcha who had frozen at the end of the hall. Yamcha gave him a nod and a smile.
"I don't know."
He managed, looking back at her, examining her. Her pink cheeks, pink nose, and swollen eyes forced his own eyebrows together. He jumped to his feet.
"What do you want?"
She squinted at him.
"I... uh..."
He glanced back at Yamcha for direction. He nodded.
"I wanted to apologize for what I said."
He choked out.
"I.. um..."
He cleared his throat.
"I did not mean those things Ana. I think you know that but..."
His body stiffened as he tried not to show his nervousness.
"I'm... I'm sorry."
"Ok."
She muttered, pushing past him.
"'Ok?'"
He looked at her, shocked.
"You've apologized before, Vegeta!"
She glared at him.
"You didn't mean it then and you probably don't mean it now!"
"I do mean it!"
He shouted back.
"Prove it!"
She screamed.
He glared at her. His dark eyes shifted toward Yamcha. Yamcha raised an eyebrow at him, interested in the prince's rebuttal.
She rolled her eyes and stomped down the stairs. She took a deep breath as she shoved open the back door and stormed out of it.
"Goku! Piccolo!"
She shouted.
"You two busy?"
Piccolo dropped his fork and looked back at her.
"What?"
His mouth dropped open.
Goku smiled.
"Ready to train?"
"Let's do this!"
In a flash, her body glowed. Her hair shined a bright blonde. Her green eyes sparkled.
"I didn't sign up for this."
Piccolo watched her wide-eyed.
"Come on, big guy!"
She winked at him.
"I'll take it easy on you."
She kicked off the ground and darted across the sky. Goku's grin widened. He looked back at Piccolo.
"You better hurry. I can't take her alone."
He chuckled before taking off after her. Piccolo shoved himself from the table and darted after the pair.
Vegeta and Yamcha stepped out of the door.
"What did you two do to her? She's pissed!"
Tien folded his arms at them.
"What do you mean?"
Yamcha looked over at him as he slid back into his seat at the table.
"She took Piccolo and Goku with her to train. Goku said he couldn't handle her alone."
He laughed.
"I'm glad she didn't ask me to go!"
Bulma giggled, setting a plate of bacon down on the table.
"Or you, Vegeta!"
Vegeta glared up at the blue haired woman.
"What?"
She rested her hands on her hips.
"Don't play stupid."
"I couldn't even get a read on her power level!"
Krillin managed with a mouthful of bacon.
"She wanted a real fight today. With Piccolo and Goku, she will get it!"
He took another bite of his food.
"Wait..."
He swallowed.
"Weren't you supposed to train her today, Vegeta?"
He glared at the bald man.
"Yeah."
"I guess you just aren't much of a fight to her."
Tien taunted him.
"Come on! You can do better than that!"
Giana shouted at Goku.
Piccolo rested his hands on his knees trying to catch his breath.
"She's been like this for weeks now. I can't keep up!"
He breathed.
Vegeta smirked and leaned back in his chair.
"Then you should leave it to the ones that can."
Piccolo glared at him.
"I dare you to go up there with her!"
"I wouldn't."
Yamcha took a bite of his salad.
"No way."
"That's one of the many differences between you and I. I'm not afraid of her."
Vegeta raised an eyebrow at him.
"You should be."
Yamcha watched her.
"Goku has a hard time handling her. You wouldn't stand a chance."
Vegeta glared at the Z fighter. He jumped from his chair and darted toward her. With her back turned, he kicked her across the back of her legs. She fell to the ground. His fist swung. Her palms hit the pavement.
"Vegeta!"
Goku shouted.
Giana's blood boiled. She rolled to her back and shoved herself to her feet.
"Is this how we're going to play?"
She grunted.
"Dirty and no rules?"
"Just how I like it."
He smirked.
"What are you doing, Vegeta?"
Goku shouted.
Vegeta smiled at her before letting a kai blast out. She dodged it before darting toward him. His legs flew out from under him and his back hit the ground. She kicked him in the ribs before dropping down on top of him. A ball of light shined in her palm. His eyes widened as he looked up at her.
"Apologize."
She smiled.
"Never."
He shoved her off of him. Her back slammed into the ground. She slid. She coughed as she shoved herself to her feet. Vegeta flew at her. Stars circled his head as her fist connected between his eyes. Blood poured from his nose as it throbbed. He let out an angry growl before letting his fists fly at her. She blocked every one.
"Damn it!"
He shouted, taking a step back from her. He glared at her before letting his power level rise. His body glowed. She raised an eyebrow at him.
"Really?"
She giggled before the ground around her began to vibrate. The sudden rise of her energy sent chills down Vegeta's back.
"Oh, shit."
Piccolo stood next to Goku.
"This is bad.."
"She will kill him!"
Krillin yelled.
"Stop this!"
Bulma shrieked.
"I can't!"
Goku shouted back.
"She's even stronger than me!"
Her blonde hair matched his. Their green eyes locked. She put her hands on her hips. He folded his arms. He chuckled.
"Do you really think you can beat me?"
"I know I can."
She smiled. She darted forward, knocking him to the ground. His golden aura faded quickly as he slid across the dirt. The world around him spun as he rested in the dirt, stunned. Her dark figure shaded the sun from his eyes. She let herself power down.
"Nighty night, Sweet Prince."
She laughed before a final blow to his jaw. The world around him faded and everything went black.
"Ana!"
Piccolo ran after her, shocked and a bit worried. Goku and Bulma weren't far behind.
"He's fine."
She dusted herself off and pulled the prince from the dirt.
"Help me get him upstairs."
"He's still breathing."
Goku confirmed.
"Of course!"
She laughed.
"Did you think I was going to kill him or something?"
"A little!"
Goku managed, wrapping one of Vegeta's arms around his neck and lifting the sleeping Saiyan to his feet.
"He just needed humbled."
She smiled bright and winked at Goku.
