Kakarot groaned to himself as he made his way through the facility. It was dark and looking through rooms was boring. Vegeta had already yelled at him once for complaining. He made his way to the medical room, where Lyri was. She had planted herself in front of a computer and was going through all the medical records. “Find anything?” he asked walking up behind her.
“No!” Lyri said, exasperated, “Most of it’s all redacted!”
“Can’t you make it not redacted?” Kakarot asked.
“No, it doesn’t work that way. Do you know if the others have found anything?” Lyri asked.
“Bulma is downloading all the files to a...I think she said thumb drive? She said it’ll be easier to go through it later if she does that,” Kakarot told her. Lyri nodded. She didn’t know what Kakarot was talking about, but she trusted that Bulma knew what she was doing. “What’s going to happen when this is all done? Between you and Vegeta, I mean?”
Lyri stopped scrolling through the files. “I don’t know,” she told him, “To be honest, I don’t think either of us has thought about it.”
“I’d probably start thinking about it if I were you,” Kakarot told her.
“Why?” Lyri asked, “It’s not like he’s going to just kill me because he’s got no use for me anymore. He’s not his father.”
“I guess,” he muttered.
“Just let us figure it out, ok?” she asked. A loud bang echoed from the hallway. They both turned to stare at the doorway.
“What was that?” Kakarot asked.
“The wind,” Lyri told him. Kakarot looked unsure. “I’ll go check it out,” she said before leaving.
Kakarot sat in the chair and continued scrolling through the files. He wondered if he could find Nix’s file and searched for it, but nothing came up. He linked his comm to Nix’s, saying, “Hey, Nix. Did you know that you don’t have a file down here in the medical office?”
“Doesn’t surprise me. A lot of files were either deleted, redacted or moved,” Nix told him.
“So then why are we here?” Kakarot asked, “Seems like there’s nothing here.”
“Because Bulma might be able to find something that we can’t see. And because more information, no matter how little, is still important,” Nix replied.
“I guess that makes sense,” Kakarot said. Forgetting that his comm was still on, he muttered, “How long does it take to check on a noise?”
“What are you talking about?” Nix asked.
“Huh? Oh. There was a loud bang and Lyri went to check it out a while ago but she hasn’t come back,” Kakarot told him.
“How long is a while?” Nix asked.
“Um...about ten minutes, maybe?” Kakarot said. Another loud bang made him stand. “I’m gonna go see what’s going on...”
While Nix was talking to Kakarot, Bulma had looked up from the computer. She watched as Vegeta moved his neck from side to side, roll his shoulders and discretely try to stretch. “You ok?” she asked.
“Fine,” Vegeta muttered.
“You sure?” Bulma asked.
“I told you, I’m fine,” he grumbled. A minute passed and he added, “Save whatever you have open right now. We’re leaving for the day.”
“Really?” Bulma asked, turning back to the computer to do as Vegeta asked.
“We knew this was going to take more than a day,” Vegeta told her.
“You seemed overwhelmed,” Bulma said. Vegeta ignored her and she frowned. “You had no idea that your father was doing these things?”
“What are you implying?” Vegeta snapped.
“Nothing,” Bulma told him, taking the thumb drive out of the computer before standing up, “I just find it odd that the king was doing all these horrible things...almost right under your nose, and you claim you didn’t know.”
“Listen, you...” Vegeta started. A loud yell rang through the facility, but quickly turned into the sounds of a scuffle. Vegeta took off, Nix and Bulma running after him.
“What the hells are you doing?!” Kakarot had yelled before being blasted in the face. While down, Turles and Nappa grabbed him and dragged him away from the door.
“Hold him tight, boys,” Raditz said as he watched them, “We don’t want him to ruin our fun.” Kiki, looking bored, rolled her eyes. “Are you not entertained, princess? Would you like a go at the freak who seduced your brother?” Kiki shrugged, but walked over to the crumpled body on the ground. She reared back and kicked Lyri as hard as she could, sending her across the mountaintop.
Kakarot shook his head, trying to clear the ringing from his ears. His eyes turned to his adopted sister, lying on the ground and struggling to get up. He watched as Raditz shot her with a ki blast, sending her body back towards the group. He struggled against the two Saiyans. “Enough! Raditz!” His gaze turned to the struggling Saiyan. “Get up! Stop letting them kick you around!” Raditz cackled as he grabbed Lyri and threw her into the rocks near the facility’s door. She used the rocks to push herself up and stumbled towards him, but she tripped and fell back to the ground when he stepped around her.
The door to the facility flew open. Vegeta, Nix and Bulma stood in the doorway. Bulma screamed, thinking Lyri was dead. Raditz smirked at the trio. “Oh...” he said sinisterly to Vegeta, “Is this yours? My mistake.” He quickly grabbed Lyri, shoving her in Vegeta’s direction and shot a laser-like ki blast, which pierced her armor, going straight through her. Vegeta caught her lifeless body as it fell. He stared at Lyri’s frozen face, his hands curling into fists and his body shaking uncontrollably. His eyes closed as rage bubbled inside of him and, as Raditz began laughing, the Saiyan prince snapped. He exploded in a golden aura and launched himself at Raditz, covering the larger Saiyan’s face with his hand and releasing a huge purple ki attack. Raditz’s headless body flew off the mountaintop, and fell to the ground below. Napa and Turles, loosened their grip on Kakarot, who pulled himself free and threw himself at Kiki. His force sent them both tumbling over the side of the mountaintop and out of sight. Nappa and Turles charged at Vegeta but Nix, in all his Super Saiyan glory, appeared in front of the prince. He grabbed both of them by the face and tossed them off the mountain. With a snap of his fingers, they both exploded in midair. Without another thought of the group, he teleported away.
Kakarot’s hands squeezed Kiki’s neck. She clawed at his hands but it did nothing to deter him. After a moment, Kakarot muttered, “You are not worth it.” He stood and walked back over to the mountain.
“I can not wait to watch each of your executions,” Kiki spat at him, “Attacking a royal over some fucking freak!”
Kakarot was in front of her in a flash. He grabbed her by her armor and lifted her until she was eye level. He was going to say something, but he was so angry that nothing came out. Instead, he threw her as far as he could into the desert and shot a ki blast at her. She cried out, but her echoing voice fell on deaf ears.
Meanwhile...in the throne room, Nix appeared, hiding in the shadows.
