King Vegeta sauntered down the hall, towards the throne room. He had been waiting for an update from Kiki for the last couple of hours, but had heard nothing. He opened the throne room door and stopped dead in his tracks. On the throne was a young man, no older than Vegeta, his long, straight, black hair pulled into a low ponytail. The young man smirked evilly at him.
Kakarot sat next to Bulma as they pulled into his home village. He pointed out his parents house and she parked behind it. After parking, they hesitated, before exiting the bus. Kakarot stared at the home he had shared with Lyri. A wave of sadness washed over him. “Give me a minute?” he managed to croak out. Bulma nodded and watched as Kakarot disappeared inside. She leaned against the bus before crumpling to the ground. Burying her face in her knees, she wept, trying to be as quiet as possible. It had been nearly a full day since Lyri’s death, but they were just now getting back, having been held back at the facility because of a sandstorm. The overnight stay was painful, with no one saying anything and Lyri’s body being covered with sheet. What were they going to do now? She felt the bus shift and glanced over to see Vegeta stepping off the bus, Lyri’s sheet wrapped body in his arms. She quickly stood, but he didn’t pay any attention to her. He walked to Bardock and Gine’s house and through the open door, ignoring Bulma’s protests as she followed him.
“Kakarot, just tell us what happened!” Gine was saying. Bardock, sensing the two newcomers, turned to Vegeta and Bulma. His eyes flicked between the two of them before landing on the body in Vegeta’s arms. His normal stony face fell. He placed a hand on Gine’s shoulder and she looked up, following his gaze. Her hands went to her mouth and she shook her head, not wanting to believe the scene that stood before her. Rage filled the older Saiyans. Bardock took an angry step towards Vegeta, but stopped when he saw the expression on the prince’s face, a mixture of sadness, pain and guilt. He sighed, running his hand over his face. He carefully tried to take Lyri’s body, but Vegeta’s grip tightened. Gine walked over and gently placed her hand on the prince’s arm.
“I know this is hard,” she said, “But...she deserves a proper burial.” Vegeta gave a slight nod. Gine guided him outside and away from the house. She stopped when Vegeta did and asked if the area was good, to which he gave another slight nod. Bardock walked up next to her and they both extended their hands, blasting the ground and forming the burial plot. Gine inhaled shakily as Vegeta gently placed Lyri’s body in the grave. Her and Bardock covered the body and stepped back.
“Leave,” Vegeta said without looking at them.
Gine and Bardock did as the prince asked, leaving him standing at the foot of Lyri’s grave. As soon as they walked in the house they turned to Kakarot and Bulma. “What happened?” Bardock asked. Kakarot tried to explain but nothing came out.
“It was an ambush,” Bulma said, “Three full grown men against her. I don’t even know if the princess was in on it...”
“Of course she was!” Kakarot snapped, “They were all sent by the king!”
“Back up. An ambush? Sent by the king? What the hells were you doing?” Bardock asked.
Bulma explained everything that she knew. How on the eve before the coronation, Lyri and Nix has disappeared. When they returned later that night, Lyri and Nix explained that they both had been attacked and he had taken her somewhere safe. That place happened to be the place where Nix had been held most of his life. She continued, telling Bardock and Gine everything that Kakarot had told her since she herself hadn’t been there when this went down. “Vegeta knew his father was a tyrant but didn’t know the extent. They came up with a plan to go to the facility to get evidence against King Vegeta. That’s why we were there. And then...” she trailed off, inhaling deeply before continuing, “She was ambushed. I honestly couldn’t tell you who they were...except for Kiki...and the guy that hurt Lyri...”
“Raditz? Your brother was apart of this?” Bardock asked Kakarot. Anger filled his eyes and when Kakarot couldn’t tell him, he grabbed his son by the front of his armor, shaking him. “Tell me, boy! Now!”
“Bardock, enough!” Gine said, pulling at her mate’s arm.
Bardock growled and let Kakarot go. He rubbed his hands over his face, pacing back and forth. “Where is he? I’m going to finish this once and for all!”
“You can’t...” Bulma told him.
“Watch me, girl. He’s my family. My blood. And I’ll be damned if he gets away with this,” Bardock snapped
“She’s saying you can’t because he’s already dead,” Kakarot told his father.
Bardock stopped. “Who?” he asked.
“The prince,” Kakarot said.
Bardock didn’t seem too shocked. “And the others? Who were they?”
Before Kakarot has a chance to answer, Bulma blurted out, “One was a big, tall, muscular bald man with a mustache and the other...well, looked like you two.”
“Nappa and Turles,” Bardock muttered.
“And what became of them?” Gine asked.
“Nix threw them off the mountain and made them explode,” Bulma told her.
“And Nix? Where is he?” Bardock wanted to know.
“We don’t know,” Kakarot told him.
“What do you mean you don’t know?” his father asked.
“We don’t know! He just vanished! There’s no other way to explain what he did!” Kakarot said.
Just then, a larger, short haired Saiyan barged in. “Tora,” Bardock said.
“Bardock...there’s something you need to know,” Tora said hastily.
Nix stood on the highest part of the palace. He hadn’t bothered to clean himself up, so blood was splattered over him, dripping onto the ivory structure. A crowd was gathering on the ground staring up at him. “Your king is dead. Your princess, imprisoned. I am your king now. Bring me your former prince, lest you want the same fate as your former king.”
“And why the hells should we listen to you?” someone in the crowd asked.
Nix narrowed his eyes at the outspoken Saiyan. He raised his hand and snapped his fingers, the Saiyan exploding instantly. “I shall only say this once more!” he shouted, “Find me Vegeta!”
Kakarot shook, desperately trying to contain his emotions. “He what?!” He snapped at Tora.
“Kakarot, enough,” Bardock said, he turned to Tora and asked, “You’re sure?”
“Yes,” Tora said, “Someone I know that works as a guard saw him dripping in blood and dragging the princess to the dungeon.”
“You’re lying!” Kakarot snarled, “That isn’t Nix. He wouldn’t do that!”
“I said enough!” Bardock roared.
The door flung open again, this time a Saiyan woman stood in the doorway. “If the prince is here, you guys are fixing to have a lot of company.”
