Damn Traditions 19
Okay another little piece, sorry it isn’t longer, but the next piece will be, the part that’s been sitting in my head for quite some time just waiting for the chance to get out. I hope I can get down to it during the week. Gotta go
Damn Traditions continued…
Buddabin crept in to the room and as close to the bed as he dared.
“I know you’re there.”
He jumped in fright at Kakarott’s words. “Sorry, just checking on you. They’ve had you doped up for days.”
“The baby?”
“Oh Vegetasei.”
There was a long silence. “Where is Parzanip keeping the bearers that he has rescued?”
“How did you… I don’t know for sure, but they are being protected by some old third class eunuchs.”
“The bearers that are here, as well as myself are all going to go into season in a few weeks. I want us to be gone before then. I want us to be free. And I want to learn how to fly a ship.”
“Are you crazy? How the hell am I going to teach you something like that?”
“Find a way.”
Buddabin heard a tone coming from Kakarott that he had never heard before. He had the feeling he had been given an order that he had better obey.
-------------------------------------------------------------------
The next time Buddabin saw Kakarott he was on his feet and in the training room. He looked around to make sure that there was no one else around, then he approached. “When I couldn’t find you in your room I figured you’d be here if you were on your feet.”
“Did you do as I asked?”
“Buddabin put a hand into his pants and pulled out a disk. This will give you the basics… Kakarott, there’s been trouble on Vegetasei. Terrorist attacks and they are blaming them on Parzanip.”
“So?”
“We aren’t doing anything at the moment. The only thing our group has been doing is rescuing bearers. We don’t know who these people are and we haven’t been able to learn anything, the Elites are all over the place so we can’t even get close to investigate. Parzanip is worried, and he isn’t sure what it all means.”
Kakarott raised his hand in motion of silence. And a moment later Nappa and Raditz appeared at the door. They seemed to nod together and Raditz went in closer.
“Kakarott… There’s something I have to tell you…” The big Saiyan didn’t seem able to form the words. But he lifted his eyes to meet his brother’s. “There was an attack on the palace…they targeted the new Prince…”
Kakarott was in front of him in seconds and grabbing him by his collar, “No, my son is he okay? Tell me he’s okay Raditz.”
Raditz couldn’t look into his brother’s eyes any longer. Kakarott shoved him away and he went flying back into Nappa.
“The rebels killed your son,” said Nappa as he caught Raditz, “See how befriending them has backfired on you.”
“No. It’s trusting the elites and my mate that did this.” He said storming off, but as he turned out into the corridor he was hit by something on his shoulder. He yelped and pulled the dart out, staring at it in horror, before collapsing to the floor.
“Shit,” cried out Buddabin looking down at him, “It wasn’t the rebels. I know it wasn’t.”
“Can you prove that?” asked Nappa.
“We don’t do that kind of thing.”
“Are you admitting that you are one of them then?”
“You know I was one of them. Hell Raditz was practically one of them too. What are you going to do to Kakarott? And what is Vegeta doing about this?”
“Kakarott will be kept in his room under restraint. There’s no knowing what he might do. And as to the Prince, we’ve had no word; the planet is in morning over the young Prince’s death.”
-----------------------------------------------------------
When Vegeta had reached the nursery and saw the ruins he had personally gone in to try and find his infant son. The body of his nanny was found, but there was no sign of the child under the destroyed building. It was only until he succumbed to exhaustion that he actually gave up and allowed others to do what they were supposed to do.
Still he went raging into his father’s office. “What is being done to find these bastard’s! I want them; I want to be the one to kill them. They’ll suffer for what they have done to my son, he was an innocent child!”
His father was sitting at his desk with his hands on his temples, “Our best are out there doing their best to find out what happened. What more can I do! Go back to your mate, get out of my hair and let me find out what is wrong with these people.”
“Leave! Are you insane! I am not leaving until I have the satisfaction of killing them personally. Do you think Kakarott will want me anywhere near him once he learns what happened to our son? He didn’t want me to take him away from him in the first place and now he is dead. I should never have gone along with this farce and kept the child on the safe world, at least held still be alive.”
The King still had not raised his head. “You at least can have other children.”
They were interrupted when a guard came in, “Sire, Ambassador Zarbon is here to give his condolences, should I send him away?”
“No, it would not look good if I did. Are you going to stay, Vegeta?”
“Hn!” sneered Vegeta and he left, he wanted nothing to do with the overbearing Icejin Ambassador.
Zarbon didn’t even spare him a glance as they passed each other.
“Oh King Vegeta I am so sad to hear of your loss, how is the Princess Aspaga, she must be inconsolable.”
Vegeta heard that before the doors closed. “Yeah right she is.” He stopped, he had not seen her or heard where she had been during the attack. He decided to go and pay her a visit, she must be happy the child was gone.
He hurried towards her quarters and found many of her servants scurrying around. It seemed she was packing for some kind of trip. He leaned against a wall and watched for a few minutes, wondering where she would go. He was sure the King would never allow her anywhere other than the palace and the safe world. And with their child dead, she was sure to not go to the latter because Kakarott was there.
“Where are you going?” he asked and saw her jump at the sound of his voice.
“What! Ah, I’ve been invited off world and seeing as even the palace is no longer safe I thought I would take up the invitation,” she said without looking at him after her initial fright.
“Shouldn’t you be a mother in mourning?”
“To that brat. I will never publicly mourn for that whoreson.”
Vegeta gritted his teeth but managed to hold himself back from killing the bitch. “If you leave you had better not come back, I will publicly disavow our marriage once the period of mourning is over.”
“You can’t divorce me. The King has made me more promises that you cannot break. Go back to your whore and make another child if it’s so important to you. I will do as the King orders me too.”
Vegeta was about to launch into her when something made him stop. “I’ll see you in hell, bitch,” he said as he stormed away.
In fact he stopped nearby; there was something about what she had said to him that wasn’t right. First she said she had been invited away and then she had said she would obey the King. Neither of them had so much as looked him in the eye for some time. And he had suspected that they were in league more than once before.
“Highness the carriage is ready,” he heard one of the servants say to her.
“Fine lead the way,” she answered.
He watched as she and her entourage walked down the corridor and to a secret door which opened for them. The Princess and two servants entered the carriage awaiting them and it began to pull away as the door closed behind them. Vegeta knew he could not get any closer without being seen. He hurried to his own quarters and out his own secret exit and took to the air in search of the carriage. He found it easily as it was a royal carriage. Aspaga never did anything without all the specialties due her new rank.
Another carriage was headed in the same direction, an ambassadorial carriage, and Vegeta was pretty sure he knew who it belonged too. He was tired by the time he followed the two carriages outside the city and into a huge mansion he knew belonged to the Icejins.
He got as close as he could but soon saw that there was at least five other aliens guarding the place. Men he knew had worked for Freiza in the past, a bunch known as the Ginyu force. And tired as he was he knew he could not take them on without a lot of rest. Still his suspicions were now fully aroused. But his heart lurched when he heard the familiar cry of a child.
-------------------------------------------------------
Kakarott opened his eyes to see Buddabin sitting beside him; he could feel the Ki dampening restraints on his arms holding him down. “Hey Buddabin.”
“Oh Kakarott, I’m sorry to hear about your son.”
“Why? He’s okay. I’d know it if there were anything wrong with him.”
“How Kakarott? He’s a whole world away, how would you know?”
“Because I know. He’s not dead, a little hungry right now, but not dead. Vegeta promised me he’d look after him.”
Buddabin merely nodded, he was sad to see his friend denying the death of his child.
“Look Kakarott before they locked us in here I had word from Parzanip, he can’t get anyone though to here from our people, but he found a mercenary that is willing to try and get through. But they may only be able to get you away.”
“They can take me to my son? That’s fine with me; I’ll come back for the others.”
Buddabin sighed, perhaps it would be better to play along with Kakarott, maybe once he accepted that his child was gone he would come out of this.
