I do not own Gundam Wing/AC, nor any of the characters from it. I do not make any money from the writing of this story.
CHAPTER 2
A/N: This story is very long and meandering. I don’t own Gundam Wing, it belongs to Sunrise and Bandai, but I do love to play with the characters. This story is totally A/U so don’t expect much of anything except the names to be the same. Feel free to Review and let me know how much you loved/hated the story. Happy readings…
CHAPTER 2
[A month later]
Trowa was still living with Wufei in his house. He hadn’t gone out much and just sat watching T.V. and reading. He still felt horribly betrayed and used. He didn’t understand how Quatre could have done that to him. Quatre had been so gentle before... now however, he was just vicious and cruel. ‘Was it my fault?’ Trowa wondered. ‘Did I make him into this monster?’ Trowa couldn’t abide the thought that he had done this.
Wufei had stayed home the first few days to make sure Trowa was going to be ok. Since Trowa didn’t exhibit any signs of suicide or any murderous intent, Wufei decided that he could leave Trowa home alone. It was true Trowa was lonely but he didn’t know if he could trust anyone, after all Quatre had been the nicest gentlest person he knew. Now look what had happened. Trowa sighed. ‘How long will it take to get over you, Quatre?’ he wondered.
A week later Wufei came home after he got off work with a suggestion. “Why don’t we go back over to Quatre’s house and get some more of your stuff?”
Trowa reluctantly agreed. The next day, when they where sure Quatre had gone to work, Trowa used his spare key to get inside the house. They walked into Trowa’s room to see that everything had been left exactly how it had been. “It doesn’t even look like Quatre’s been in here.” Trowa whispered.
“You do know that we don’t have to whisper Trowa?” Wufei said.
Trowa nodded. “It just seemed appropriate.” He said. They gathered four boxes of Trowa’s stuff and took them back to Wufei’s house. Trowa spent the rest of the day getting his stuff unpacked and set up in his room.
Trowa had settled in and after a few weeks was well enough to go out and shop for groceries and supplies. Two and a half months after the incident Trowa was pretty much back to normal, on the outside. That’s when Quatre called…
Trowa had been out and when he got back saw the light winking on the answering machine indicating there was a message. He hit the button and nearly dropped his shopping back in surprise. He had to listen to the message a second time to hear what Quatre actually said.
“Wufei? Trowa? Is anyone there? I guess not. Well Trowa I just wanted to say I’m sorry about everything and I’m sorry I didn’t call sooner but I thought you might like some time to yourself. I don’t know if you can forgive me for what I did. I don’t know if I’ll be able to forgive myself. I was just wondering if you would want to come over for dinner some day and we can talk everything out. I know you probably won’t believe this but I have missed you. Oh and- *BEEP*
What ever else Quatre had wanted to say had been cut off. Trowa listened to the message twice more then deleted it. ‘See Quatre again?’ he thought. His heart ached. He did want to see him again but was also mortally afraid of what might happen.
He decide not to talk to Wufei about it, Trowa knew that Wufei wouldn’t understand. He called Quatre back and left a message on his machine telling him he would be free on Friday night.
Quatre walked in and set his stuff down with a sigh. The house was so quiet without Trowa. He saw a light blinking on his messages. It was Trowa. He said that he would be free Friday night. Quatre smiled, it would be good to have Trowa back, even if it couldn’t be permanently.
Friday evening arrived quicker than Trowa would have thought possible, all that day he was fidgety and anxious. So much so that Wufei finally turned to him during lunch and told him to sit still. Trowa could tell that Wufei was getting suspicious so he tried to act normal. That night he told Wufei that he was going to dinner with an old friend that was in town. Wufei smiled at him and told him to have a good time. He was glad that Trowa had finally come out of his shell and was doing things with other people again.
Trowa slowly walked the mile and a half from Wufei’s house to Quatre’s house. When he arrived he knocked lightly but he had barely stopped knocking when the door was thrown open and Quatre was standing there a huge smile on his face. It wasn’t a malicious smile but a loving, good to see you smile. Trowa relaxed a bit. Quatre seemed normal... Trowa walked inside and Quatre led him to the dinning room. It was lit like a romantic restaurant. Trowa stopped, he wasn’t sure this was what he wanted, but he allowed Quatre to lead him to a chair. Quatre went into the kitchen and brought out two plates of food. Trowa had to admit that he missed Quatre’s excellent cooking. Quatre set one plate in front of Trowa and the other one at his place. After they were both seated they began to eat. Trowa reached for his glass and stopped with it halfway to his lips. He slowly tasted it, the whole time his eyes on Quatre. It was filled with Sparkling Cider.
Quatre grinned. “What? You didn’t believe me when I said I had given up drinking?”
‘So that’s what the message must have cut off’ thought Trowa. Out loud he said “Just making sure.”
Quatre gave a sad smile. “After what happened...” he swallowed and went on, “I gave up on all alcohol. I don’t like who I turn into.”
Trowa looked at Quatre. He had lost weight, and had developed bags under his eyes. He looked the worst for wear. “I think this has been hard on both of us. And...” He took a deep breath. “I’m prepared to forgive you. I can’t say for sure that I’ll ever really trust you. It remains to be seen. But I am willing to try to work things out.”
Quatre’s face lit up with a smile. “Really? You don’t hate me? Oh, that’s wonderful.”
After dinner that night Trowa went to his room. After he had settled in Quatre appeared in the doorway. “I just wanted to apologize again for what I did and I hope in time you will forgive me.” Trowa nodded. Quatre softly padded over to sit on the edge of the bed. Trowa shifted away from him ever so slightly. They sat in awkward silence for a few moments.
“I love you, Quatre,” Trowa finally said, “And I hope we can piece our relationship together again.” Quatre smiled up at him. “Me too.” Quatre said. “Goodnight.” Quatre said as he left the room. “Goodnight Quatre.”
Trowa was soon fast asleep but Quatre couldn’t sleep. He just kept thinking of how close Trowa was and how much he wanted to make love to him, to make him see he had changed, to show Trowa that he still cared. He also was depressed; Trowa was so wary and tense. He was like a small, frightened animal. ‘And why wouldn’t he be, stupid. He loves me, but he said it, he doesn’t know if he can ever trust me in a relationship again.’ Quatre sighed. About midnight Quatre finally couldn’t take it. Trust was fundamental, and it would be missing from this relationship and would never come back. He owed it to Trowa to take the consequences of his mistakes. He fell into a restless sleep until dawn when he quietly left the house.
