Chapter 2
The plot thickens
Quatre followed the couple up the slope to the cave they were using. He would give them a few moments before he burst in on them..
Hilde sighed as she pulled Duo through the flap of skin she had hung up over the door. They were greeted by warm air and a brightly burning fire. She went to the corner and picked up the shield, bringing it over to the fire and to Duo.
“Sit.” She ordered.
He sat by the fire as he watched her pour water from a water skin into the shield. He slipped off his jacket and tossed it on to the floor. He looked at it and said, “We really should get some where and get some clothes washed. I hate wearing dirty clothes.”
She never turned from what she was doing, “There are some clean ones in that bag over there.” She heard his start to get up, “Don’t move ,Duo.”
He sat back down, as she turned back to him. She had a wet cloth in her hand, “Where is it?”
He lifted his arm toward her. She frowned as she pushed open the cut cloth of his shirt sleeve. “It’s healed! All that is here is the blood. How did that happen?”
He shrugged and reached for her face. “You have a cut on your cheek.” He said as his finger touched the small wound, healing it instantly.
He jerked back his finger in shock. “Whoa! Did I do that?”
“Hey that tingled. What happened?”
“I healed that cut. I think.” He replied , confused.
Hilde sat back and looked at him. “I wonder if that “wild magic” Wu Fei talked about is finally starting . I wonder what other stuff will happen?”
“Yeah, you can already control the weather and………..” He paused for a moment.
“Duo? What is it?”
“I hear something………. Oh it’s that fairy guy. He’s coming. I thought I had seen him at the clearing.”
Quatre pushed open the skin door covering . “I am not a fairy. I am a PIXIE!”
“Well, whatever.” Duo said, dismissing him.
Hilde shook her head. “Come you two. You are not rivals.”
Duo glared over at Quatre. “Well, it’s not like he didn’t try.”
Quatre smirked. “Yeah, but Hilde here was only smitten by you. You had her heart long before I even tried. My pixie magic wouldn’t even work on her.”
“HA! You admit it! You tried to use magic on her to make her turn to you.”
Quatre looked down at the ground. “I admit it,” He admitted, “But my magic would have never worked on her anyway. She’s special.”
Hilde blushed as she listened to the two of them banter over her. “Enough! You lost, Quatre, so that is the end of it.” She cocked her head. “You’re a long way from home. Why are you here? Are you following us?”
He shook his head. “Always suspicious, eh, Hilde?”
“No, just cautious. Too many are looking to do us bodily harm.”
“Like the ones in the forest clearing?”
“Yeah.”
“So, why are you here?” Duo asked, before Hilde could repeat the question.
“I bring an important message from the Queen.”
Hilde snorted, “What does she want?”
“Hilde,” Duo cautioned .“No matter, what happened in the past …. She still is the Queen.”
She glared at him, then reached up and tenderly traced the scar that ran from his ear to his chin. “This would not have happened if she hadn’t tired to kill you. She did this with the dagger I gave her. It is my fault, too. Queen o r not , I would have killed her if he hadn‘t came into the room.”
“Yeah, wrong place , wrong time. You know it wasn‘t all her fault. ”
“Don’t defend her, Damn it!”
“I’m not. You know as well as I do she was under that spell and she wasn’t in control of herself. And it wasn‘t your fault either, if it hadn’t been that dagger it would have been something else. And remember she was your friend once. ”
Hilde sighed, “I know , but still.” She looked over at Quatre, her anger dissipating. “What does she want?”
“Your help.”
“WHAT?” They both shouted in unison.
“She has some nerve, after banishing us from Dominion and putting a death price on our heads!!!”
“Well, you can’t really blame her for that!” Quatre said, softly.
“YES, we can,” Hilde growled.
“You did sort of destroyed the palace.”
Hilde glared at him, “It’s still standing, isn’t it?”
Duo sighed and looked over to his lover, then back to the pixie. “What does she want?”
“She wants you to find some one.”
“Tell her to send her master of arms.” Hilde mumbled, softly.
The pixie and Duo looked at her.
“She can’t. She needs him at her side. There have been threats and now this.”
Hilde looked at him and asked, pointedly. “Since when have you been the queen’s emissary?”
Quatre’s eye’s glowed bright green in the semi darkness. “I’m not. I’m the only one who can find you two.”
Duo nodded as Hilde sighed.
“Well, what are we looking for?”
“Her son.”
Again came the startled cry. “WHAT? She has a son!?!?! HOW!?”
“The usual human way.” Quatre said, disgustedly.
“Er, uh.. Who is more the question.”
“Oh, the master in arms.” He raised his hand, “But it’s a secret. No one is suppose to know.”
“They couldn’t figure it out? She just had a kid magically??”
Quatre chuckled, “Well, you know how the court tends to ignore things they don’t want to know.”
“What’s in it for us?”
“What do you want?”
“A full pardon for both of us. So we can return to our home.”
Quatre nodded. “I’ll tell her. I make no promises about that. She is still upset.”
Hilde snorted and mumbled under her breath. “Who cares.”
Quatre smiled slightly and turned away. Then he turned back and looked at Duo. “Still can’t tame her, eh, Duo?” He looked at Hilde and pulled a bag from his pocket. He tossed it to her, watching her catch it. “There are things in the forest now. Strange and bad things. Demons of a sort. Be careful you two. This pixie dust is magical and will help you in your quest. Use it sparingly because it is powerful.”
Hilde looked at the bag in her hands. “Who gave you this? You didn’t steal it did you?”
Quatre clutched at his heart and cried, “Oh, your mistrust hurts me!” Then he laughed, “You need not worry, the pixie council will not come after you. It is mine.”
Hilde nodded as she and Duo watched him slip out into the cold night. She squinted as she saw light flakes of snow drift into the cave. She pulled her jacket closer he she shivered.
Duo was behinr dir dipping the rag into the tepid water in the shield.
“Where were those clean clothes, Hilde?”
She turned to face him and watched as he washed himself. She smiled as she went to the bag and pulled out two pairs of clean clothes.
“You know I can’t wait till we get to an inn and can get a real bath. Maybe we can share.” He smirked as he winked at her.
“Hey save me some of that water!” She cried as he slopped some onto the floor. She grabbed the cloth from him and started to undo her ties. He stared at her as she undressed in front of him.
“So are you gonna just stare or ……” She never finished her sentence as he pounced on her.

Quatre smiled as he moved away from the cave, listening to the primal sounds and the soft groans coming from inside. If he had been a voyeur he would have peeked in and watched them in the throws of passion. He grinned, it wasn’t like he hadn’t watched them before. The love they had for each other never ceased to amaze him. The passion was sometime too much for him to watch. He shrugged and reverted to his smallest form so he could travel back to the castle with little detection.

Hilde sat up and listened to Duo’s soft snoring. She cleaned herself and put on her clean clothes. She leaned over and laced up her boots as she looked toward the skin door. It still moved back and forth in the wind, sending in little bits of snow every once and awhile. She stood and emptied the water from her shield and went to the fire, throwing a few more sticks on it. She went to her pack and pulled out some jerked meat. She sighed as she sat down and chewed on the hard meat. It was her turn for watch and she needed to say awake .She leaned against the cave wall and listened intently for any sounds out of place in the cold night.
This next passage is Hilde remembering the past
As she sat there she remembered things she some times wished she could forget. The night in the forest and the sudden clap of thunder, the strange sensation that had washed over her and then passing out. She remembered being woken up by a soft hand and male voice, concerned if she was ok. She smiled as she remembered her first meeting with Duo. He had found her in the forest that evening, unconscious and hurt. When she looked him over she could see he wasn’t in much better shape. He had carried her to Wu Fei’s home where they both stayed till they recovered from what he had called “Wild magic.”
That had been two years ago and the magic in them had started to come out slowly giving them powers they had no clue harbored inside them. WU Fei had told them that it could and may take years for all the magic to manifest. He also told them that it would pull life force away if used too much, so he cautioned them to use care. That’s when the trouble started. She and Duo had become close, friends, then somewhere along their travels they became lovers. She closed her eyes and remembered that night. They had been on the trail of a particularly nasty criminal who had escaped from the kings guards on his way to his execution. They were sent in to track him and bring him back. He had ambushed them, leaving them for dead. She remembered crawling to Duo’s side and pulling him into her arms, sobbing uncontrollably (thinking he had been killed) when he had reached up and pulled her face to him, kissing her. First she had been angry ,but her anger quickly disappeared as he kissed her, making her desire for him burn deeply in her. One thing led to another and this is where they were today. Her smile drifted away when she thought of what had drove them from their home. She clenched her fists and stood. She wanted to chase those thoughts away, but they would forever remain in her mind. A dark force had been gathering over the kingdom for some time but everyone except WuFei had chose to ignore it. He had warned her and Duo that dark forces were at work and to be watchful. The queen was still a princess during this time as her father was still living but with in 2 months, that would change everything. The king suddenly became ill and died, leaving the princess to become Queen. She was young but she was capable of the job, until something put her under it’s spell. That’s when the trouble for them began. They were in the queen’s army ( bounty hunters so to speak) as special envoys. They hunted down and captured all escaping and escaped criminals. This one particular night she called them to her private chambers and made Hilde wait out side her doors as she dragged Duo inside. She listened to the sounds of things breaking and heard Duo call to her. She rattled the door knobs trying to get in but they had been locked. Finally in frustration she kicked the doors in as saw Queen Relena straddled on Duo’s chest. Relena was laughing as she tried to stab him with the bloody dragger she held in her hand. Duo had one hand on the wrist on the hand that held the Dagger, and his other hand held the other one. Blood was running freely from the cut on his face. Hilde let out a strangled cry of anger, taking a few paces toward the two on the floor. Relena had screamed in anger as she saw Hilde. She leap off Duo and charged her. Hilde drew her sword and waited for the attack. The two of them battled back and forth, until Relena leaped on her, her strength increasing as she grasped a hold of her. Only Then did Hilde notice her eyes. No pupils, just dark black holes. Hilde shoved her back, causing her to fall on the floor. Relena screamed and jumped back up , running full tilt into Hilde knocking the breath out of her as she hit the floor. Hilde gasped and blinked as she saw stars. She struggled as a heavy weight sat on her.
Hilde raised her hands and found Relena’s neck. She wrapped them around it and began to squeeze. Just as she thought she was winning her target was pulled form her. And she was pulled to her feet by Duo. Relena’s Master of arms had Relena in his arms as he glared at the two of them. He had had asked what had happen , listening to Relena’s babble, placing all the blame on them. When Hilde had tried to explain, Heero held up his hand , halting her words. He then asked Relena what she wanted to do with them. She had said banishment . They didn’t know about the price on their heads until 6 months later.
End of Hilde’s remembering
She walked away from the doorway and back to the fire and the sleeping Duo. She sat down on the hard ground and sighed, dropping her head into her hands, “And now after all this time she needs our help.”
A few hours later, a hand shook her shoulder. “Ha, Some watch you are. Sleeping on the job.” A soft voice jibbed her.
She opened her eyes and looked into Duo’s face. She opened her mouth but he quickly put his finger to it.
“Shhh… something’s out there, and it’s not friendly.”
She looked up at him, her ears straining for a sound. “How?”
He touched his ear. “I can hear it. I feel it too.”
She quickly got to her feet. “You hear and feel it?”
“Yeah,” he said, softly as he looked to the door. “It’s angry and hungry. It was drawn to the blood we spilt earlier today. It knows we are here. It can feel us and hear us. It will be coming here soon.” he looked at her, “What do you think? Should we met it head on?”
She grinned back at him, ”Yeah, I wouldn’t want a monster to get the better of us, eh?”
He nodded. Then he Leaned in and kissed her. “For victory!”
To be continued……….
Ok that was a little wordy but I had to tell you how Duo and Hilde got where they were and why they really didn’t want to help Queen Relena. There will be more action in the next chapters and oh probably a lemon or two…. **clears throat** tell me what you think.. I know the story isn’t moving too fast yet but it will pick of the pace after this chapter…. I want it to be good but not tedious. And not terribly long……… but just long enough….. Ok enough of my babbling..
