Chapter 2
Thank you kailover2006 and Arinsen for your reviews. Here’s second chapter, mmmm, a bit bad but oh well. Keep reviews coming in especially with advice.
XXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXX
It was 6:45. Kai had long since left the room and was presumably wandering round the hotel. Rei sat on his bed his hands clasped in his lap. Thoughts rushed through his head as to what it was Kai could possibly show him. What would explain the late nights? Rei wasn’t too sure he wanted to know.
As he glanced at the clock now reading 6:49 he stood grabbing his jacket from where it rested on the bed post and strode to the door. After checking his keys were in his pocket he let the door shut, turning towards the direction of the elevator. He was met by a grinning face.
Jumping back slightly in a defensive pose he saw that it was only Tyson. In an exhalation of air he relaxed his stance. Tyson just carried on grinning stupidly, Max and Kenny behind him looking on at Rei.
“So Rei what’s up?”
Rei began to walk past them. “Nothing. I’m going out.” He said it almost coldly, almost as if Kai had said it.
“Oh it just we were going to ask you to watch a movie or something with us. You know ‘cause we haven’t hung round much lately.” There was a sadness deep within his voice.
Rei paused. Tyson was right he had spent a lot of his time around Kai of late, or thinking about Kai and his mysterious goings. Tyson, though he enjoyed the public attention for the world championships, was not one to waste good friendships on things such as publicity and Rei had found early on that he craved the closeness of the team. Maybe, somewhere in his mind, he had believed the team was drifting apart.
Rei spun round, smile plastered on his face. “We’ll do it tomorrow ‘kay. I’m just a little busy now.”
Tyson’s face lit up and he gave Rei the thumbs up. “Sure we’ll do it for def’.”
Rei gave the boys a casual wave before hurrying to the elevators wondering if he was late. He stepped into the elevator as it stopped at his floor and immediately pushed for the ground floor. He looked around at the others in the elevator with him. A man and woman, holding hands with a small girl between them and another girl just a bit younger than him, gazing at him adoringly.
Rei smiled sheepishly. He tried to turn away but he found his arm being yanked back round.
“You’re Rei right? From the Bladebreakers?”
Rei smiled again. “Yeah I am.”
The girl’s face lit up and she grasped his arm closer to her. “Can I have your autograph? Can I have a picture? Oh, will you go out with me?”
Rei groaned inwardly, fangirls or boys were the worst; they tended to stalk in large groups waiting for some unsuspecting celebrity to latch themselves onto. He firmly removed the girls hand from his arm.
“I’ll leave an autographed picture at the desk for you tomorrow.”
She latched onto his arm again. “And will you go out with me?”
The doors to the elevator opened at Ground level. He once again removed her arm from his.
“Sorry, I’m currently interested in someone else.” It was the truth. The only problem was he didn’t know if the other person was that interested in him.
The girl gave him a pout as she stepped out of the lift. “That’s too bad. Well,” She smirked at him. “I guess I’ll see you around.” She bounded off towards the restaurants.
Rei stepped into the lobby sighing heavily. “I hope not.” He whispered to himself.
“So, who are you interested in?” A husky voice said in his ear, the breath tickling his neck.
Rei froze momentarily before he smirked. “Wouldn’t you like to know?”
Kai stepped to his side. Smirk evident on his pale face. However it disappeared with his next words.
“We have to go, we’re already late.”
Rei looked at the clock seeing it read 7:04. Rei frowned he wasn’t that late. He turned to tell Kai so to find that the bluenette was already by the hotel’s exit. Rei cursed and hurried to catch up with him. As soon as he stepped out of the building he was hit by a very strong wind, it cut through him like daggers and he felt that he was about to be suffocated.
Wind cut through him. He tried to fight it but how on earth could you fight something you couldn’t see. It tore at his body spilling more red liquid from cuts as thin as paper cuts. Each stung and renewed the pain he already felt in his exhausted body. Ones of his knees collapsed and he looked up into the cruel eyes of his opponent. Face twisted in a malicious grin. Lavender eyes stared right through the brave façade into the fear deep within his soul.
He stepped back, head down, wishing for the warmth of the hotel again. A hand gripped his elbow and began to lead him away from the light and comfort of the hotel, leading him further into the cold and bitterness of the wind. Rei closed his eyes and just let Kai lead him, he had to trust Kai. Rei heard a mumble of words in a different language and the click of a door before he was bundled into a car. The sudden warmth making his cold body feel even colder and he automatically pressed up to the nearest source of warmth.
Kai looked down at the boy that had just pressed himself up against him. The driver shut the door and hurriedly moved to the front of the limousine. The engine was already started, making the floor vibrate beneath Kai’s feet but all he could feel was Rei’s body. The limo began to move into the nearly empty road. Rei finally stopped shivering as the warmth seeped into him; he then looked at what he had pressed against and scuttled away.
“Sorry Kai.” He said looking at him as if he expected a reprimand.
Kai just shrugged and turned his gaze to the window. Rei on the other hand began to look round the interior of the car; finally registering he was inside a limousine. He noticed a small panel on the door to his right and proceeded to press each one systematically.
T.V, music, more light, less light, radiator. Rei couldn’t help the childish grin that spread on his face as each button revealed a new thing to him. Kai watched him out of the corner of his eye. He knew that had it been any of the others he would have been threatening several unpleasant ways of torture or death, but with Rei he was mildly amused by the antics. Rei stopped almost as suddenly as he started and he looked at Kai with an embarrassed look on his face.
“Sorry Kai, I must be annoying you.”
Kai shook his head. “You’re part cat right? It’s in your nature.” He smirked as Rei took on a look of mock anger. That instantly failing he laughed. A musical sound that made Kai’s heart swell. He was glad that Rei could be happy around him, he had only just recently began to bond with the group, and this was the first time Rei had laughed while he was alone with Kai.
The feeling disappeared shortly though as they turned into a long driveway. He watched as the large house loomed ahead. Rei pressed his nose to the window to see it better. He couldn’t class it as a house, more like a mansion though it seemed smaller than many mansions he had seen in photos and such. The limo pulled up at the steps to the doorway where an elderly fellow stood anxiously. Kai opened the door before the driver could get round and Rei shuffled to step out behind him.
Kai strode up to the figure and began talking in Russian to him. The man nodded his head looking extremely worried. Kai sighed and turned signalling for Rei to come up. Rei practically ran towards the warmth of the house.
“Fredrick, this is Rei, he’s a friend of mine.” Rei smiled at Kai, it was the first time that Kai had addressed him as such. “Rei, Fredrick, my butler, he will see to any needs you have.”
Fredrick looked Rei up and down before smiling. He bowed low. “An honour to meet you sir.” He then turned to Kai and spoke in Russian once more. Kai turned crimson and turned away. Fredrick grinned.
“Rei, follow me.” Kai began to walk out of the entrance of the manor and into a great hall. Rei looked around gob smacked, there were twin staircases each leading up to the next floor and the doors looked as if a giant could walk through them quite comfortably. He suddenly felt very small and insecure; he hurried after Kai closing the distance to a mere sliver. Kai began to walk up the stairs when someone skidded to a halt at the top of them. Someone Rei recognised all too well, well who could forget that nose.
“Kai, it’s happening again!” Ian shouted, voice laden with panic. “He won’t listen to us he thinks we’re the enemy.” Kai began to take the steps two by two before halting and spinning to see where Rei was. Rei stood frozen mid-step eyes on one of the group that had caused him and his friends such pain.
“Rei.” Kai’s voice penetrated his senses, his eyes wandered to his captain, his team-mate, his friend. “Do you trust me?”
Rei stared at him then back at Ian who was looking between the two of them angrily.
“Look we don’t have time for this unless you want this place in ruins!” He moved away from the top of the stairs to where he had appeared from. Kai continued to look at Rei with a fading hope.
{ If you can’t trust the one you care so much for, Master Rei, whom can you trust. }
Drigger’s voice floated through his mind making Rei make a split second decision. He began to run up the stairs after Kai, leave questions as to why a Demolition Boy was here later. Kai smiled and hurried up the last few steps and down a corridor. Rei sprinted after him marvelling at Kai’s speed.
Kai eventually turned into a doorway and Rei finally registered noises coming from the room. He stopped at the doorway and froze.
There was Ian hurriedly looking around the room, muttering curses of the sort. Tala, the red-headed Demolition Boys captain and Spencer the large blonde, both holding something down on the floor. Kai was hovering over said something, presumably trying to calm it or rather him down.
Being held on the floor was the one person Rei never wished to see in his life again, knowing that if he did he would probably die on the spot. That lavender hair had grown to a shaggy length in the last couple of months, and the face had earned some hair. But what Rei feared most was those eyes, eyes that spoke of cruelness beyond recognition.
Those eyes currently filled with an array of emotions were currently consumed by one particular one. Madness. Bryan Kuznetsov was insane.
