Chapter two: The meeting
Some years afterwards in Makai…
Yusuke stared into the space while trying to break free of the damn plant. How the hell had that happened? He hadn’t even feel the plant coming…and now he was trapped. He was an idiot, should have listen Kurama when he told him this place needed to be avoided. ‘How the hell am I supposed to break free of it? If I don’t it will suck me off’ “Damn! Let me go!”
Gohan could feel it. A raise of ki, and in ‘his territory’. It was odd…normally nobody will approach there, all afraid of the creatures and plants living there…and of him. He knew some of the creatures living outside the area –whatever they were –had seen him in oazaru form sometimes. He supposed he had come to be a legendary monster in the minds of these creatures. Wasn’t it ironic? He had stablished there for finding peace of mind, for not to worry about others and already had the reputation of monster…But this ki…was different…powerful and human-like. So strange. By how it was decreasing he could tell some of the ki-eater plants were trying to devour it. Among this years he had grown more and more less sensitive to other beings. This place, he had learned wasn’t a place for compassion, it was a world of darkness where almost everything could be a menace. Were the only thing one could think of was survive. And to survive you have to kill, to threaten before something threat you. But he still couldn’t let someone die like that, knowing that he weren’t meaning to harm him and he could have saved him. The ki wasn’t exactly evil so he went straight to were he felt and threw some fire balls to the plants freeing him and staring at him…it was the first human-like creature he had met for a long time.
“ Wohoa that was close” he looked around and saw a boy around his age, he looked human except for a monkey tail and had his clothes were completely ruined. “ Hey, thanks a lot…err…what’s your name?” The boy looked at him seeming surprised for his straightforwardness “Err…Gohan” he said, turning his head back at the feeling of two other kis. They belong to two other boys one of them tall with red hair and green eyes, the other short and resembling a lot Vegeta except for the eyes; which were red. They were strong too. “Yusuke!” cried the taller one “So great nothing happened to you. I feel your energy decrease…” “You are a fool” pointed out the shorter one. Yusuke giggled nervously “He he well I was about not coming out of this in one piece…but it seems I am always lucky!” he proclaimed pointing to Gohan. The short one shook his head while the taller one sighed at his actitude. “We are so grateful you help our friend. Thanks very much. May I know your name?” he asked politely.
“You shouldn’t be here. This is my place and it should have been avoided then there wouldn’t have been any problem to your friend or…to any of you” he stated challenging. He didn’t why had he done it. He had just had the urge to detach himself of this people, of them to be afraid and just go; like everyone else. He was still a monster in some way and was no use to escape from contact of the other beings just to…stablish newly contact. The tall and short one look at him with amusement. ‘So territorial’ thought the shorter one and smirked. “His name is Gohan” said Yusuke, unimpressed. “When did you settle here? There have been some decades since I visited this place…I never thought someone was going to consider it as a place to live. It’s an unsafe place even for experimented S-class demons, it’s full with the worst kind of wildlife of the Makai.” “Well, I did. I’ve been living for some years now. It may be very dangerous but it’s never boring.” answered Gohan. “ Aren’t you to introduce yourselves as well?” “Oh, how rude of me” said the tall one “My name’s Kurama and this one from here is Hiei. We come from different kingdoms…Hiei is from Mukuro’s, I’m from Yomi’s and well, Yusuke is himself the head of one. “Even when he may not have look like it to you” he added, amused. “Hey, what’s that supposed to mean, Kurama?” said Yusuke in an annoyed tone. “That normally kings of the Makai don’t go around putting themselves in evidence, being catch by something so simple as a plant” Hiei answered playfully. And then Gohan couldn’t help it. He had to laugh, all his seriousness and his plan to threaten the intruders dropped. “Hey, that’s not funny!” said Yusuke “Sorry if I disagree” said Kurama between giggles “but it is also not very common to find a part human Makai king, so you’re excused”.
Gohan’s eyes widened at the information “You’re part human as well?” He hadn’t expected someone related to human race to appear at this random place at all. “Wohoa, so you are a hanjou too?” Yusuke asked “hanjou?” “it’s when you are part demon and part human” explained Kurama. “No, I’m not a demon” he said as shocked with this piece of information as the others with his revelation “I’m a saiyajin” “ And what the hell a saiyajin is?” asked Yusuke rudely. “ Well it’s quite hard and long to explain I don’t really think you want to know” he answered sadly. This three guys…so they were demons. He reverted to the childhood when his mother forced him to go through all these books…he had read a lot about demons when he studied mythology but he had frequently doubted they existed, that is as described in those books. He knew about the demons guarding the hell, his father told him about it in the years before the first visit of the future Trunks but this were not the kind described in the book. They were supposed to be powerful, humanoid or resembling some sort of animal and with surprising skills. Apparently in the end they did exist and in his mind it made a lot of sense that they were here in this world. It suited them fine and it seemed to suit him too. He didn’t want to ruin this meetings just by making it plain obvious how monster-like he could be even when he suspected they wouldn’t care very much. The moment was fine no need to spoil it.
“Fine. Whatever.” Said Yusuke “but I still owe you one so in repayment…why don’t you go with us. I’ll invite you to a meal in a place I saw while coming here. Believe me, you are not going to regret it. The chef is fantastic”. Gohan looked at them hesitant, he was not sure about leaving the place, specially not when it mean to stay with other people. He didn’t remember what moon it was yesterday but that night could be full moon and all of them will be in danger since Gohan liked a lot staring at the sky, looking for the stars relaxing him so much. “Come on. Nobody is going to steal a territory full of mad plants and crazy wildlife! You can leave it for a night” he insisted grabbing his arm. Gohan frowned at him considering what he had said highly unpleasant. This place, as sad, lonely and dangerous as it was, had been his home for quite some time. He had changed a lot but he still conserved intact some things which his father seemed to have inculcated him deeply and the fondness, respect and protective actitude of the places where he live was one of them. He had been protective of Earth and of the forest of Paoz Yama and now was protective of this place. He gave him a nasty look.
“I don’t think insulting the other’s home is the best way to convince him to join you, Detective” Hiei said leaving all the others shocked. He was not the normal one to utter this statements. He normally would make just some disapproving sound and Kurama would said something. He hated making long statements if they were unnecessary. But now he had and this was shocking even to himself. Meanwhile Gohan looked at Hiei with surprise. He had been very quick guessing the cause of his anger. He wondered how had he done it. Was he so expressive he made obvious his feelings all the time? No, he knew he wasn’t. This group seemed to be full of surprises and he was curious now, wanted to discover more of them. He had told that the place was never boring but it was a half-truth. Over the years he was beginning to grow tired of always fighting with the natural forces. This will be something different and interesting. “Okay I’ll go with you.” He accepted “But don’t ever again insult this place, right?”. Yusuke realised he was still angry “Hm, yeah. Sorry man, I didn’t know it was so important to you” the words in themselves sounded a bit…mocking but the tone Yusuke used was so serious, that he knew he had meant it. So he followed them and in some hours they arrived to the place. Yusuke had not lied, the food in the place was delicious, he was glad they had invited him. He ate with passion and keep on asking more to a nervous waitress. Yusuke seemed to be also a passionate eater but not as much as him. Kurama and Hiei just asked some simple meal and ate moderately –at least in comparison to the others in the table. “Buff it costed me a fortune. So good my father left a royal treasure.” Yusuke said when they were finished “Listen, what do you think of staying here for some nights, ne? The owner told me that he would made a special offer if we stay here for 3 days.” Gohan found this funny while Hiei rolled his eyes, annoyed. “Okay, I have no problem doing that” Kurama said with a smile “But I won’t stay tonight to sleep it’s full moon. The need to return to my Youko form is just too strong” “Well fine” Yusuke conceded while making the arrangements of the reserve “I will tell you about your room tomorrow then” “It’s also better for me if I don’t stay here on full moon nights.” Gohan said, earning curiosity from the other three “a saiyajin thing” he said not wanting to explain more. “Weeeell good, if you prefer sleeping in the grass I can’t make anything about it. Good night”
