Chapter two
“Morning…” Duo grumbled as he stumbled through the kitchen door, marching
straight to his ‘secret’ caffeine hiding place. It wasn’t really a secret
because everybody knew about it, Duo had told them all himself, and that they wouldn’t be able to do
anything for at least a week if they even dared to open the small box just to
feel the divine sent play with their nostrils.
And they had stayed away from his ‘secret hiding place’.
“Here,” Heero said as he gave the braided boy an empty cup. “Headache?”
Duo looked even more so miserable after that question, he only dared to
growl shortly in response before anybody else asked him the same thing again,
but with other words of course.
Unfortunately they ignored his silent pray.
“I told you to stop after six glasses, didn’t I?” Quatre said murmuring,
evidently trying to avoid his own burning hangover to blast out in playing
heavy metal. If it did he was afraid that it would stay that way forever.
It seemed that Heero was the only one that wasn’t affected by pain this
morning, and he had had just as much as Trowa, if not one more, and Trowa was
currently massaging his temples with a slight frown over his features.
“Well then why didn’t ya just pour everything down the drain?!” He
muttered a little too loud, because the second later he was holding his head
cursing the gundam that had run over him.
“Hee-chan…” He whined. “My head hurts…”
And with that his head disappeared
under the table and into Heero’s lap, where he seconds later had managed to
fall asleep.
…Snoring loudly.
Quatre tried to smile, but he envied the boy too much. He wished he could
fall asleep just as easily.
Or at least that Duo would stop snoring soon or his head would start
playing that heavy metal…
***
Two very long hours passed before they all had eaten something that
remotely could be called breakfast, besides coffee that is.
“I won’t drink that much again, EVER!” Duo muttered, head still lying in
Heero’s lap.
“That’s what you said the last time too.” Heero reminded the boy whose
tussled hair he stroked lovingly
“And the time before that…” Quatre added silently. “And probably the time
before that too, but I can’t really remember.”
Duo whined again, but then, just the moment after he burst out laughing.
“What?” The blond Arab asked surprised.
Duo had to pause to get enough air down his lungs to be able to answer
him.
“Nothing,” He said then. “I just remembered what happened when you
finally said that you had had enough, and twenty minutes later, and four beers
that’ll say, you were dancing, naked,
on the kitchen table!”
“Duo-” Heero tried, but Quatre interrupted him before he even had the
chance to start.
“I DID WHAT?!”
Duo started laughing again.
“Uhm, Duo…” Heero said again.
“Yeah babe,”
“That was you.”
The laughter stopped.
***
“Hey guys,” The braided pilot suddenly said out of the blue. “Have
anybody seen Wuffers?”
“No,” Quatre said drawing another card out of the deck. “But he’s always
up with the sun so he should be around here somewhere. Why,”
“He hasn’t eaten.” Duo pointed out, pointing his finger towards the sink.
Wufei always washed his own cup after drinking, but today its place in the
plate rack was unused.
Heero frowned and glanced down his watch.
“It’s almost one. He should be up.”
“Maybe he wasn’t feeling hungry?” Quatre suggested.
“He should eat.” Heero said and rose from his seat. “I’ll go check if
he’s down in the hangar.”
“Gooood idea!” Duo exclaimed, but right after that he bent down in
remorse. He had to remember that none of them could handle noises that loud
yet. At least he couldn’t.
He stretched.
“Let’s all play ‘find the missing pilot’.”
The other two remaining boys nodded and than the separated in search for
their dark haired friend.
***
Duo went straight to the Chinese boy’s bedroom.
He knocked softly on the door, in case the dark haired pilot of Shenloong
had a havocking hangover just as he himself had. He didn’t suspect the other
boy to be feeling any of the ‘side-affects’ to alcohol, he hadn’t drunk
anything at all compared to the rest of them. It wouldn’t surprise him if he
hadn’t had any at all.
He listened, but there were no sounds coming from the other side of the
door.
He decided to knocked again, a little stronger this time though.
When he still received no answer he turned the nub and pushed at the
door.
Locked.
Well, it didn’t surprise him.
Though, it wouldn’t be able to keep him out.
He smiled for himself. Quatre really had no idea how easily the locks on
his doors could be ‘unlocked’. He made a note to himself, ‘Tell Kat that these
ones are a too easy piece of a cake.’
It didn’t take long before the silent ‘click’ was heard and he was
opening the door gently before he even had thought of doing so.
At first glance the room did seem empty, but a small movement lured his
attention towards the bed.
He couldn’t believe his eyes! Wufei was always up first, even if he
didn’t want to! Even if he was sick, well, Duo couldn’t remember seeing his
friend sick, but if he was, he would guaranteed be up before the sun as
usually, still with the lame excuse of doing his forms before anybody could
come down and disturb him.
And now, here he was, still in bed, still sleeping like a little baby.
Maybe one glass of beer really was too much for the sloe eyed boy?
Well, Heero had put it in a system to never let him seep longer than
eleven, and Wufei himself always complained about him sleeping away all the
day… It would only be fair if he treated him the same way.
He did his best to get across the creaking wooden floor without actually
making it creak and wake up the other boy. Not yet.
That would only result in his head being chopped off by that knife of
his.
And he really didn’t want that to happen.
The gentle smile his lips had formed broadened to an evil grin.
Maybe the other boy had had more than any of them had thought. They were
keeping his glass full all the time just so he wouldn’t be able to tell how
much he had drunk. Maybe he had been more than drunk?
Strangely he couldn’t even remember anything more than filling the boy’s
glass a couple of times.
But that didn’t matter. As long as Wufei didn’t remember everything about
yesterday his plan would work. And what a prank it would be!
It would be a blast to see his that stoic face flame up in emotions, I
only anger and confusion, but emotions nevertheless! To see his face when he
wakes up and finds himself snuggled to the chest of an almost naked Duo. That
would be worth more then all the gold in the world!
He was just about to pull his shirt off when something caught his
attention.
He faltered in his steps and then he bent down sneaking a hand under his
friend’s pillow.
Then he froze.
Wufei’s breath hitched, but he didn’t wake up.
He didn’t dare to breathe as he pulled the thin object out from under
that pillow.
A book.
He flipped through it, as his first though was that it was something the
boy didn’t want them to find.
Unfortunately it wasn’t erotica.
Or at least that was what he thought.
Bummer…
It was all in some foreign language, characters he certainly couldn’t
read.
It was in Chinese.
Handwritten if his eyes weren’t playing tricks on him.
He bit his lip and turned to leave. This newfound book needed some
translating, and there was a great possibility that his perfect Heero had some
translating program on that precious laptop of his.
***
“I Won!” Duo said happily as he entered the hallway where the others were
standing. “Now, where’s my prize?” Walking straight to Heero he jumped into his
arms, kissing him passionately.
“Where is he?”
“Oh, he’s still sleeping.”
The others stared at him.
“Really, he is!” He laughed. “Looks like somebody had way more than we
though he had!”
***
Wufei woke a few hours later, when Duo had had enough time to hide that
special book of his somewhere it was never to be found if you didn’t know where
to look.
He didn’t feel like getting out off bed.
Ever.
Yesterday had truly been one of the worst nights in his life so far. He
had never felt so left out in his entire life! First they hadn’t noticed him
sneak out, and then when they finally found him missing they sent Duo out to
find him, just so that he could drag him back to being ignored for the rest of
the night.
They hardly even spoke to him in-between their cuddling and kissing each
other breathless. Why had he been forced to watch all that?! Were they really
so dense that they couldn’t see that that was saddening him?
If that wasn’t enough he had to deal with their loud screaming after they
returned to their rooms. At least from Duo and Heero’s, the other couple never
once made a single noise from theirs.
…Or at least thankfully not loud enough to disturb anybody.
It was nearly morning when the loud braided baka had decided to shut his
mouth and fall asleep, and it was just a few minutes after that when Wufei
realized that his nightmares was going to keep him sleepless for long.
And it did. He wasn’t even able to close his eyes until dawn.
The worst part was that when he finally got the chance to escape back to his
own room, he was too tired and way to sad to even bother with finding an
impossible place for that braided baka to find his diary.
He sighed and crawled closer to the wall and pulled his pillow closer to
his head.
His eyes widen as he froze. That movement should at least have made his
hands bump against his thin black book, but he had only felt the soft cotton
under his fingers.
He shut out of bed, slamming his pillows to the floor.
Nothing.
His calm breathing turned into fear-stroked pants.
It wasn’t there!
His grabbed the bed quilt with shaking hands and tore it out of bed. His
eyes searched the white sheet, not a trace of the book. Not even when he lifted
the mattress did he find it.
He dropped to the floor, maybe he had accidentally kicked it in under the
bed, but he wasn’t that lucky.
For the second time since he woke he froze. Right there, next to his
nightstand a stray hair laid. It was far too long and far too light to be one
of his.
“MAXWELL!”
Downstairs the other four boys was entertaining themselves in the large
living room.
“I haven’t done anything!” Duo looked at his friends shortly before he
returned his attention to the video game he was close to winning.
“I haven’t!” He said when he couldn’t ignore the glare the wing pilot was
sending his way.
The next second an angry Chinese entered the room.
“Where is it Maxwell?!”
“Where is what?”
“Oh, you know damn well what I am talking about!! I want it back! NOW!”
“Hey Wuffers! How can I give you something I DON’T have?!”
“I want my book back.”
“What book?!”
“The book you stole from my room this morning! The one under my pillow!”
“Maxwell?” Heero said. “Have you stolen Chang’s books?”
“No! Hee-chan ya know I can’t read Chinese!”
“HA!” Wufei exclaimed “There’s your proof right there! The only book I
have in Chinese is the one he stole! Give it back!”
“I don’t have your book!”
Trowa glanced at his allies before he slipped out of the room. They were
all too busy fighting to even notice him doing so, he bet they wouldn’t
realized that he was leaving even if he walked right through them.
“Duo,” Quatre said moving to turn off the game.
“DON’T touch that!” Duo was up from the floor and hugging the console
closely. “I’m almost on the last level! Three hours from winning the game!”
“Duo,” Quatre repeated himself and placed his hands on the grey box. “Are
you sure you haven’t borrowed it?”
“HE STOLE IT!”
“I haven’t stolen anything!”
“Wufei,” Trowa said from the doorway, holding out a thin black book in
his hand.
Wufei blinked. He was stunned to silence, why would Trowa take his book?!
He had trusted the Latin boy with so many of its secrets already, if he had
asked something he would have answered truthfully!
He felt betrayed, If Trowa had read it-
He snatched his book and escaped the room.
Trowa’s green eyes followed his body up the stairs, and then when he
heard a door slam shut he walked over to Duo.
Duo smiled. “Thank-“
SLAP
“Trowa!” Quatre shrieked.
“Don’t take things that don’t belong to you.”
“Whoaa?!” Duo said rubbing his cheek.
“How would you feel if he read your diary?” Heero interrupted, the
disappointment of his lover not hiding from his voice.
“Diary?” The braided American said stunned. Why didn’t I think of that?! Of course it was a diary! How stupid of me
for thinking otherwise! And, no, wait a minute!
“Wait a minute! You guys knew
he had a diary?!”
“Yes.” Heero said monotone. “And you will never ever think of it again.”
“…” Trowa blinked in agreement.
