Dragonball E
Chapter 2
By B. Amos (formerly Reppa)

"Kakarot...!" He screamed in warning, or tried to. It always seemed like he was a meager second too late.
Why did it have to replay over and over like some horrid record? And why did it have to have such subtle changes here and there before reverting back to the original macabre design?
Vegeta was wholly convinced that something or someone up above wanted him to go completely without sleep and go mad. Perhaps this was his true penance for his actions in the past. He stopped trying to figure out why the scene terrified him so and instead focused on trying to go one wink without it flashing through his nightmares like it had over the past couple days. But it was a losing battle and it was showing.
Initially, when Gohan had started coming around to spar before his father came back, they had been relatively even. At first, Vegeta had considered that Gohan had probably been training after all and was bringing him all for the spars. Then on day two, it was safe to say Vegeta was more or less picked apart. The lack of sleep, along with his new finicky nature towards his food, had caught up to him full circle after he was plowed into the wall. He sat there, slightly slumped over on the floor. His muscles were wracked with minor tremors and ached, from both the deprivation and the beating. He grabbed his head, trying to steady himself as he started to get up. Yesterday must have really marked the decline in his reaction timing and cognition.
"I'm...not sure if you're holding out on me or if you're not well. I can't tell with you sometimes." Usually, Gohan liked enigmas, it was something to figure out. But not when they had him worried like he was now. He rushed over and helped the prince to his feet despite Vegeta's attempts to push away. Gohan didn't relent. "What's going on?"
"None of your...business."
The younger man sighed, helping the unwilling fighter to a proper seat in the back. Once he had the stubborn man in place, he got a bottle of vitamin water from the fridge and held it out to him. Vegeta didn't take it at first but after some persistence there in front of him and feeling the needs of his body, the prince succumbed and took it. Gohan smiled as the man drank it down quickly. "Hey, how about we go eat?"
"I'm tired of that foul cooking...No." Vegeta snarled.
"Well, I was thinking more like we can go somewhere, like a buffet...Oh, hey, there's an Indian buffet that just opened." The half-saiyajin grinned broadly. He'd never had Indian food and he was certain the same could be said for his sparring partner. Vegeta looked like a sulking child though there was no mistaking that glint of curiosity in his dark eyes. It could prove to be an interesting outing.

Vegeta wasn't sure if it had been the smells when they entered the nearly empty restaurant that had rekindled his appetite a little or that it was the fact that at least he was in the company of someone who wasn't totally human and not pre-pubescent. In any case, his stomach was growling with a renewed fury and he was more than happy to sample Indian cuisine in mountainous doses along with the young man.
Initially they ate in silence, trying different dishes and voicing their opinion to one another, though that was mostly Gohan, Vegeta mostly grunted his agreement or snorted in disagreement. One item on the line in particular that Vegeta especially liked was something made with a yogurt sauce that had peas and corn in it, which he had poured over rice. He wasn't sure what the name was let alone how to pronounce it, but it was sweet and flavorful. Halfway through the feasting, he eyed his plate with a feeling of nostalgia, "...This food reminds me of Vegetasei..."
Gohan blinked, barely catching that as the prince said it in an unusually hushed voice. "It does?" The other warrior jerked his head up, looking at him with mild indignation before he looked away. The half-saiyajin blinked. Vegeta had never really told them much about Vegetasei and her people, then again, he nor his father had really taken the time to ask any details. He knew Goku was content with his human upbringing, paying little mind to his heritage, but sometimes Gohan wondered. This seemed like a good opportunity to go ahead and ask. "So cooking on Vegetasei was a lot like this?"
Vegeta gave him a scrutinizing look and it actually pained Gohan to realize that the prince was finding his interest dubious. He really couldn't blame him, he could almost imagine the saiyajin trying to make Trunks sit still for more than five minutes to teach him. He arched his brows, trying to look encouraging in that he was seriously curious for details and slowly the shorter man came around. "Yes...A lot of the flavor is similar. Fruits and vegetables were dominant in our diet on the planet."
"Huh...Figured meat and fish would be."
"Hmph, on planet, no. Off planet, yes." The prince smirked, cleaning off a bone of tandoori chicken before he chewed on said bone before continuing. "We'd wipe out our own livestock if we relied on the sources on the planet. Livestock was mostly maintained in good number for an emergency case...Like if something happened to the vegetation or the planet were to be cut off from trade somehow, which yes, was heavily depended on."
That got Gohan to chuckle, since it seemed almost like the saiyajin read his mind. The conversation expanded from there...going onto the geography of the planet, economy, society and so on. For the first time in years, Vegeta was feeling so much better. Not only was he feeling full and content from the buffet, which had been cleared several times over to the workers' collective dismay, but the loneliness was gone. It felt good to enlighten one of the boys about the heritage they were missing out on and he made a mental note that, even if he had to force it, he would sit Trunks down for an extensive talk when he was a little older and would be more attentive.
After paying and leaving a more than generous tip, they left. They wouldn't resume sparring since despite filling up, Vegeta was still sluggish from the lack of proper sleep. He wondered if that might change on a full stomach, he was hopeful anyway. They proceeded back to Capsule Corporation on foot, continuing their conversation until they were interrupted.
"Hey, Gohan!" They stopped and turned to see a young, dark haired woman rushing up to them. Vegeta glowered slightly, his glare intensifying when she more or less launched herself onto Gohan, arms wrapped around his neck. Their cheeks were barely touching. She gave him a good natured glare, smiling deviously. "Did you forget you were going to teach me today?"
"Oh...Oh, oops! Sorry, Videl!" Gohan blushed, trying to unlatch her with one hand while he rubbed the back of his neck with the other. He looked so much like Kakarot doing that, Vegeta crossed his arms quickly, face heating up as he glanced to the side and back. His temper was flaring for some reason he couldn't place, though he had his suspicions as he glowered at Videl.
"Woman, he's busy with me, so buzz off!" The saiyajin snapped, grinding his teeth slightly. Both Gohan and Videl looked at him with surprise though the girl's surprise faded quickly and she let go, placing her hands on her hips as she glared defiantly at him. Vegeta fought the urge to strike her out of the strange jealously that welled in his gut, hitting her would be a terrible mistake and he had no intention of snapping Gohan's friend like a twig. "What are you looking at? You heard me!"
"Woah, woah...Relax." Gohan was shocked, coming between the two as he watched Vegeta bristle and growl at Videl like she was some sort of threat. The half-saiyajin tried to think quickly of a way to diffuse the situation, mostly to keep Vegeta from blowing up which seemed imminent. "Ah, look...I did make a promise so I need to catch up with her on the lesson...But I'll be by tomorrow with dad so we can talk some more and spar togeth-"
"Fah! Don't bother!" Throwing the whole 'no flying in the city' warnings from Bulma to the wind, Vegeta powered up before shooting off like a rocket. Gohan gaped up at the energy trail while Videl looked up with a whistle, shielding her eyes from the afternoon sun.
"See? I want you to teach me to do that."

When he arrived at Capsule Corporation and touched down on the back lawn, he was shaking all over and red in the face. His face easily conveyed his mingled anger and confusion. "What the hell is wrong with me...?" He asked no one in particular, or so he thought.
"I dunno, but talking to yourself isn't normal, dad." Trunks sat on the back lawn with Goten, both resting from a little sparring and plotting some marvelous prank for the returning hero when the prince had returned. He jerked his head around to look at them, looking more mortified than when he landed before he proceeded to yell at them.
"Be quiet! Don't you have something else to do inside?! Go, now!" He pointed the way for them and they were more than happy to get away from the raging saiyajin, they knew Vegeta's temper all too well. The pair jumped with some fright and ran off as Trunks's father stood on the grass, huffing and puffing. He sighed, closing his eyes and leaning his head back. This just wasn't his week, it seemed.
Vegeta tried to figure out what had happened back there in the City. It had been going swimmingly and he had been in a great mood until that girl came along. No, not so much her being there...It was when she latched onto Gohan that he had freaked. Actually...He blinked before it dawned on him. He had seen this before...with Raditz. He thought back to the incident at the palace when he was quite small.
There had only been sires and consorts, that were hermaphroditic in nature, among the saiyajins. True females had thinned out at some point before the Tuffle-Saiyajin War as their nature for battle and warfare grew, so too did the demands on their bodies and the females had not held up well over the test of time. The 'fairer sex' had pretty much been weeded out for a heartier variety of potential mates that would not be too debilitated during the lengthy pregnancy months. The standard of attraction had been shifted well before Frieza's shadow fell on their race and his way of interference had brought an unbalance to that relatively young system. Had he not destroyed the planet, it probably would have muddied the their genes pools enough to eventually wipe them out either way.
What 'females' had been on planet after their involvement with Frieza were merely some of his assorted floozies to appeal to and satisfy the men that slaved for him. Consort saiyajin considered them an abominable plague, many getting glanced over for something 'pretty' and 'shapely'.
Raditz had, for a lengthy time, been eyeing Zorn for a sire mate and for the most part, it had seemed like Zorn was equally interested in turn. At least until that wayward Makyan wench, Paprika, came sniffing around and the elite sire found her more to his liking. Needless to say, Raditz had been more than a little disgusted with the choice, not to mention it had been a horrible blow to his pride. At some point, her teasing had sent the fur flying and the king had been quite displeased with the demolition of a wing in the palace. Unfortunately, Kakarot's brother had never gotten the revenge he had so desperately wanted at the time.
Vegeta shook his head at the memory. He had mostly mated with Bulma purely due to a moment of weakness and need. She was now something along the lines of a valuable companion, like Raditz had been...but he didn't find true females very appealing as long-term mates. They were just too delicate. But then, that was not only his saiyajin logic at work, but his consort instincts as well. A true female wouldn't be able to satisfy the desire he would feel at some point to breed. Which it seemed...was possibly at hand.
He frowned to himself. Was that where some of those thoughts were coming from? He remembered Raditz telling him that while he wouldn't consciously be thinking about it, at some point his biological alarm was going to start going off as he climbed closer to full maturity. Apparently that must have been it. Kakarot, who was a sire, and his eldest son who looked so much like him that was also a sire...they would start setting off the alarms. That was why he was loathing Chichi and why he blew up back in the City. "Well, that's just fan-fucking-tastic." He grunted. Kakarot, he had pondered, but he hadn't initially given Gohan even a glance. Now he would.
But what was he to do?! Kakarot was technically mated already and Gohan was highly unlikely to initiate a courtship let alone understand what to do if one was initiated with him...and there was that girl.
'Oh Gods, I'm fucked and not in the good way...'
In frustration, he screamed to the sky and wrung his hands in his hair. Once that was out of his system, he calmed slightly. He breathed heavily from his venting, then went hunting for Bulma. This was just too much for him at the moment and he needed help. They had the dragon balls in hand thanks to Trunks and Goten helping her search for them and they were waiting for the big moment tomorrow to wish that idiot Kakarot back. He had no intention of suffering alone.
"Woman! Woman!" He called, stomping into the house. After a brief search, he found Bulma in the den which acted as her office and she looked up from her laptop.
"I have a name, you butthead." She reminded him curtly before returning to her work with her fingers flying across the keys at a breakneck speed.
"Nevermind that...Look, how many wishes are open?"
"All three..." Without lifting her head, she glanced up from the screen. Her bright blue eyes bore into him. "And...why exactly do you want to know?"
"I want at least one of those wishes."
"At least one?"
"You wouldn't let me do the other one." Ah, that song and dance. He tried before to wish all those of saiyajin blood to have their tails back, but Bulma would hear none of it. It was only with his immortal royal vow to utilize the utmost care as well as his assurance of having self control over his ultimate form on full moon nights that she let him have his back.
"Okay...well, what's the wish exactly?"
He smirked. "We'll make the day doubly special...A family reunion. Kakarot, his brats, his woman...and his brother. And I'm not taking 'no' for an answer."
End of chapter 2
*Yes, in SW I had some very minor Gh/V so in the rewrite I may build on it more than I had before. Plus instead of having Raditz come back as some custodian serving Hell, it'll be slightly different. Now whether I stick with the P/R or not is entirely debatable.*
