Kakarot sat on top of the ship, staring at the settlement in the distance. “I don’t like that we haven’t heard anything,” he said.
“She knows what she’s doing...” Kiki said from the ground below.
“What is she doing?” Kakarot asked.
“Trying to compromise with the people here,” Kiki said
“What if she’s caught?” Kakarot asked, “She doesn’t have her scouter which means she has no comm system.”
Kiki shrugged. “Then she’s on her own until she can signal us, I guess.”
Kakarot groaned.
“You like her?” Kiki asked.
“What?” Kakarot asked, “No. Not like that. We were raised together after her parents died. She’s like a sister.”
Kiki glanced up at him. “If you say so.”
“Kiki, shut the fuck up.”
Kiki rolled her eyes as Vegeta walked over to them. “Fuck off, Vegeta.”
“See anything?” Kakarot asked.
“No,” Vegeta told him. He jumped up on top of the ship and stared at the settlement.
“This sucks!” Kakarot said, “Can’t we just go in and blast them?”
“No!” Kiki snapped.
“Why?” the slightly older Saiyan asked.
“Because!” Kiki snapped again.
“But that’s what’s going to happen anyway!” Kakarot whined.
“Both of you shut the fuck up or I’ll blast you both!” Vegeta snapped. He continued watching the settlement where Lyri was. Suddenly, there was an explosion on the outskirts of the settlement with a small line of dust flying out from it. “Damn it...” he muttered.
“I told you this was a bad idea!” Kakarot yelled as they flew off.
They hovered over Lyri as she pulled herself up. “Motherfuckers...” she said dusting herself off. She looked up at the three other Saiyans. “Three other settlements. All hostile. They made it clear that they won’t back down.” Kakarot and Vegeta pushed button on their scouters and flew off in different directions.
“Guess I should go take care of the last settlement...” Kiki said.
Lyri reached up and grabbed her foot. “Oh, no you don’t! I’m your protector. You’re staying with me!” She turned and looked at the small rebel army heading towards them.
“I’m not a child!” Kiki snapped, “I don’t need a protector!”
Lyri shot a small ki blast into the middle of the small army, knocking some of them back. “Take it up with your father when we get back! But I am not going to get my ass handed to me by the king because I didn’t do my job!”
Kiki growled and shot a bigger ki blast at the approaching rebels, taking some out.
The two worked together to take out the first settlement rebels. After a while, Kiki looked at the settlement through her scouter. “This one is done. Let’s head to the last one since we haven’t heard from Kakarot or Vegeta,” Kiki said. Lyri nodded and they flew off. The settlement they came to was bigger than the last.
“Well someone has been rebuilding...” Lyri muttered, staring at it.
“Should we just blast it or draw it out and have some fun?” Kiki asked.
Before Lyri could answer, a large ki attack was shot at them. Lyri shoved Kiki out of the way, taking the brunt of the attack. It sent her back and tumbling to the ground. It took her a couple minutes to pull herself up but she did, inhaling sharply from the pain in her side. She rushed back to where Kiki had been. Kiki was skillfully defending off attacks and firing off her own. “You ok?” the younger Saiyan asked.
“Do you care?” Lyri asked, stopping a rushing rebel with a punch to the face.
“Not really,” Kiki said.
Lyri rolled her eyes. She stopped another rebel with her boot. He looked at her foot, confused. She pushed off him and swung around to kick him in the head. She glanced over at Kiki and saw that a group of rebels were preparing a huge attack aimed for her. “Pay attention, idiot!” she yelled. Kiki either didn’t hear her or was ignoring her. The attack was fired and Lyri quickly shoved Kiki out of the way, again, taking the attack. The force of the attack sent her flying backwards. She skidded across the ground before coming to a stop. She pulled herself up and yelled for Kiki to move. She stretched out her arms, gathering ki, before bringing them together and unleashing a huge yellow ki attack. From above her, she saw a purple and blue ki attack join hers. Kiki added in her own ki attack from where she stood and the settlement exploded. The four Saiyans shielded their eyes from the dust and waited for everything to settle down.
“Is it over?” Kakarot asked.
“Hmmn” Vegeta said, with a slight nod.
Lyri walked over to Kiki and smacked her upside the head.
“Ow! Hey! What was that for?” Kiki asked, rubbing the back of her head.
“That is why your father has assigned me to protect you!” Lyri yelled, “You don’t pay attention!”
“Like that attack would have done damage!” Kiki said, “You’re still up and walking around!”
“That’s not the point! Yes, that attack wasn’t fatal, but it could have been!” Lyri snapped, “And then what? Hmm? What if I hadn’t gotten there in time? Or what if I had died saving your ass? What if Kakarot and Vegeta weren’t here to help?”
“Should we leave?” Kakarot asked Vegeta.
“No, this is entertaining...” he told him.
“Yeah, but that didn’t happen!” Kiki yelled.
“But it could have! You don’t think things through and you don’t pay attention! You’re worse than Kakarot!” Lyri yelled back.
“Hey...” Kakarot said, “I’m not that bad.”
Kiki glared at Lyri. “No one asked for your opinion! Why don’t you shut your freak mouth and fuck off!”
Lyri turned and walked off. ‘I can’t kick her ass. I can’t kick her ass...’ she thought.
Eventually the other three followed her to the ship. Lyri walked in and headed to her room. She changed out of her singed clothes. She pulled on a cropped black shirt and booty shorts and laid on her bed, her legs dangling over the side. Her entire left side was bruised and there was a bruise running up her abdomen from her bellybutton to just above her breasts. Along with the bruises, she had some cuts and scrapes along her entire body.
“You should probably hit the regen tank,” Kakarot said from her doorway.
“Nah. Been through worse,” Lyri said.
“You sure?” he asked.
“Yeah. What doesn’t kill you makes you stronger, right?” she asked.
“I guess,” he said.
“I’ll be fine,” Lyri reassured him.
“Ok. Well, I should probably get us off this planet,” he said.
“I’ll come too,” she said, getting up.
“You stay and rest since you refuse to use the regen tank,” Kakarot told her.
“But-“ Lyri said before Kakarot interrupted her.
“No buts. Stay.” She watched him walk away and soon felt the ship take off. She laid there, with the door open because Kakarot didn’t close it, and listened to the hum of the engines.
“Kakarot said you weren’t going to use the regen tank.”
She turned her head and saw Vegeta leaning against the door frame. “I’ve had worse dealt to me.”
He stared at her. “So? If you’re in pain, you should use it.”
“Who said I was in pain?” Lyri asked him, “Like I said, been dealt worse.” She stared at him. “Once from you, remember?”
He smirked remembering how she came to be Kiki’s protector.
Vegeta stood at his father’s side and looked at all the Saiyans that had shown up to hear the king’s announcement. He rolled his eyes as his father started talking.
“As you know, my daughter is the first female born into the royal line in over five hundred years! That is why I’ve decided to have a protector with her during every mission!”
A hint of white caught Vegeta’s eye and he saw a girl with white hair pushing her way through the crowd. He watched her as she stared up at his father. She glanced at his sister then at him. Their eyes met and she quickly looked away.
The king was droning on about how a tournament would be held to decide who Kiki’s protector would be. The king finished his speech saying the tournament would be held in three days and then he dismissed everyone.
Vegeta watched the white haired Saiyan as she was pulled away by a younger Saiyan, who was happily telling her something. He briefly wondered who she was and if she was entering the tournament but shrugged those thoughts off.
Three days past and Vegeta sat next to his father in the stadium watching the tournament. Much to his father’s annoyance, the white-haired girl was quickly moving up in the ranks.
“She cannot be allowed to win!” the king yelled, pacing the throne room, the day over and the tournament done for the day.
“Why? If she’s strong enough to win, then what do her looks matter?” Vegeta asked.
King Vegeta stopped and looked at his son. “Because she will be representing the Saiyan race. For all we know, she is not a real Saiyan. There hasn’t been a Saiyan with different coloring in thousands of years...”
Vegeta rolled his eyes. “You want her out of the running? I’ll take care of her...”
King Vegeta nodded. “Very well. Make sure that she loses this next round.”
Vegeta nodded his understanding.
The next day, King Vegeta stood in the stadium announcing that their was a change in the rules. “My son has agreed to fight the remaining fighters to find the best suited to protect my daughter. If you can last against him, the job will be yours.”
Vegeta easily took the first three contestants out. He glanced at the girl, who looked like she was going to vomit. He watched a man that was like an older clone of the boy next to her talk her down. She gave a slight nod and walked onto the platform. She lowered her head respectfully.
“Let’s get this over with...” Vegeta said. Within minutes, Vegeta had her face down on the ground. He turned and started to walk away. The crowd gasped and he turned to look at the girl. She was on one knee, pushing herself back up.
“Stupid...” he muttered. He quickly moved back over to her and aimed a kick for her head. She blocked his leg with her forearm.
She grabbed his leg and forced him to the ground. She went to punch him but he was faster than she and her fist met with the concrete ground. She looked around, bewildered. His arm went around her neck, choking her.
“Give up now...” he told her.
“Never...” she choked out.
Vegeta’s arm tightened around her neck. She stepped on his foot as hard as she could then slammed her elbow into his gut. His grip on her loosened and she turned and kicked him away. Her hand went to her neck then quickly jumped aside as Vegeta sent a ki blast at her. She jumped away again as Vegeta sent another ki blast at her. He sent a third ki blast at her and she backflipped over it. Her arms went up to protect her face as Vegeta flew towards her and threw a punch. Vegeta heard the snap and felt her arm break beneath his fist.
She grabbed his outstretched arm and pulled him towards her, throwing her head into his. He stumbled back a couple of steps. She flew at him and punched him. She jumped and swung around to kick him but he grabbed her leg and threw her to the ground. She pushed herself to her knees but he kicked her back down. He grabbed her hair and slammed her head into the ground. He slammed her head into the ground a second time. She was still.
He walked off the platform as the man and boy ran to her.
“I spent a week and a half in a regen tank...” Lyri said.
“You were an idiot,” Vegeta told her.
“Was not! How was I to know that you would step in and the rules would change?” Lyri asked.
Vegeta shrugged.
“Did you need something?” Lyri asked.
Vegeta stepped into her room. The door slid closed behind him and he pushed the button to lock it.
“Uh...what are you doing?” Lyri asked sitting up, wincing as she did.
“Here...” he said and offered her something.
Lyri took the small pill. “Your sleep aide...” she said, “Thanks but after what happened last time-“
“Take the damn thing!” Vegeta snapped.
Lyri looked at the pill then at Vegeta then she took the pill. She laid down and was almost instantly asleep.
Vegeta sat on the other side of the bed. With the way the pill made her act last time, he felt like he should stay. He should have just forced her into the regen tank but knowing Lyri, she would have fought him all the way there. He glanced at her sleeping form then leaned his head back on the wall behind him. He glanced at Lyri again and closed his eyes while he thought about some things.
