Dragonball: Unforgotten
Chapter Two
"So will you hit me now?"
It had been about an hour since Goku and you had left the burger place. While the food digested you had taken a lazy stroll towards one of the city's major parks. It provided a nice change of pace from the normal cityscape. The trees were all in full bloom and the well cared for grass was cool and sweet. You'd taken a seat under one of the trees, resting as the food continued towards your stomach.
Goku didn't seem to want the same break. In fact he seemed more energetic than ever. Maybe he was like you - a falling star. That might explain what the ignorant (and innocent) man was doing in the middle of the city. If his bodily systems were too functional for his own good that would be quite the coincidence. Or maybe it meant that there was something happening like an oils spill or radioactivity where and when you and he were born. Still that sucked for him just as much as it sucked for you.
"What's your obsession with getting hit?" You asked, not even looking up at him.
"I'm training with Kami for the next World Martial Arts tournament. He sent me down to get experience. But I didn't understand what he meant when he sent me down. I've got a lot of experience fighting. I think I understand now though. He wanted me to meet strong people before the tournament!"
In your gut something told you that's not what this "Kami" person meant. Like the muscular man before you didn't even know how to order at a fast food place! How did someone get through their life without even learning that? Sure he could have come down from the mountains to get fighting experience but from the little you'd seen it was just as likely that he'd been sent down to get life experience.
"So will you hit me?"
"You're serious about that?"
You looked up just as he smiled. He was pretty cute, you had to admit that. His hair kind of through you off though. It looked like he used galleons of hairspray on it considering how it stood on end. But somehow it moved in the most normal of ways when a breeze passed through the park.
"Yep!"
You got up and stood in front of him. He got excited and his smile increased to a grin as you dusted off your bottom.
"Okay, Okay. But I'm not hitting you in the face okay? Put up your hands so it looks like we're just practicing."
"Like this?" Goku asked.
He took a full fighting position. And from the little you understood of martial arts his form was good. It was just that he looked like he was going for a full out match. Which wouldn't work for your purposes. You didn't want people to think that you were actually fighting and get in trouble for that just Incase he was a little touched in the head. Although from a distance you supposed that it wouldn't really make a difference with the subtle changes you intended to make. But still...it was the principle of the thing.
"Almost. Relax your stance. It doesn't need to be so pronounced. Just enough to keep you balanced and a little of an angle. And don't clench your fists. Put them up like this, they're the targets," you spoke out demonstration Get what you said with your own body.
Goku mirrored you almost instantly. He was really good at taking instructions. He even had a large, trusting look on his face to accentuate the fact that he was following all of your commands.
"Okay so I'm not a fighter. Not like a martial artist at least. I'm not training for anything. So don't get your hopes up too much," you preluded.
"Right!"
"I'm going to hit your hands a few times. I guess the goal is that they get stronger the more I do it and warm up. That's what the movies always show..."
You were kind of rambling nervously now. You had never hit a stranger because they'd asked you to. It was just weird. The whole situation was weird.
Goku nodded trustingly. And after a deep breath you started. At first he didn't even seem to feel it, but you did. You were recoiling from the fact that you didn't actually want to hurt him. But the more you hit the more you saw what he could take unflinchingly. By the end, when you were pretty sure you were hitting him as hard as you consciously could outside of situational anger, you saw that his palms were a bit red. And when you officially stopped he took a moment to shake them out.
"You do get better the longer you go," he said with a smile, rubbing the back of his head. "But I don't think you hit me as hard as you hit that one guy though."
"Goku...it's hard hitting someone as hard as you can when you're not angry or afraid. Even if I meant to hit you that hard I don't think I could. Not without being really angry at you."
"Really?!" That seemed like news to him.
"Do you hit your sparring partners as hard as you would a punching bag?"
Goku shrugged. "I don't know. What's a punching bag?"
Fuck. He was mentally not all there. You knew it. What kind of martial artist trainee didn't know what a punching bag was? He definitely has to have gotten out of some mental hospital or something and just thought he was a fighter because of the clothes. That didn't explain where he got the wad of money though. Did he steal it? Or was this some type of elaborate prank on you?
"I said something weird again huh? I'm sorry! It's just that I've never used a...punching bag before. Whenever I want to test how strong I can hit things, I use trees or large rocks or something."
"Trees or large rocks?" You questioned back in disbelief.
Goku nodded. "Uh uh. I stick mostly to large rocks now. I keep making the trees break when I hit them."
Oh he was joking. He had to be. The only other explanation was that he was truly delusional and therefore insane. Which was a pity. He was really cute. You never pegged someone who looked as athletic as he did to be insane. But you supposed there was no reason why insane people couldn't be buff. All the easier to lure targets in and kill them.
"Prove it," you challenged.
This time it was Goku's turn to look confused and a bit hesitant. That hesitation told you what you needed to know. He didn't want to get called out on one of his lies.
"You want me to hit a tree? Why?"
"Because I've never seen anyone break a tree with their hands before. So prove it. Hit this tree right here," you challenged him.
You motioned to the tree right behind you. It wasn't the largest in the park but it was big enough. It was the one that you'd been sitting under just a few minutes ago before the whole punching thing started to happen. Goku stepped forward and took a stance once more. He punched with enough accuracy and speed that even if he was insane, you couldn't help but respect his oomph and skill just from that.
When his fist made contact you were actually a little disappointed that the tree didn't seem to be hurt. It would have been cool if he had been telling the truth. There wasn't much time to be disappointed, however. As he drew back you heard a cracking sound. Then you saw as the tree cracked. Slowly at first, spreading out from where he punched, but the quickly like shattered glass. Before you knew it the whole tree was falling. Like it was an opponent that Goku just knocked out. The tree fell backwards, smashing into the ground with a deafening sound.
Your heart hammered in your chest as you jumped. Your eyes spread to the widest they could get as you lost a breath at seeing what he'd just done. Goku turned back to you with his hands tucked into his blue fabric belt and a sheepish smile on his face. You looked between him and the fallen tree. He hadn't been lying...who...what was this guy?
The tree splashed into the street as well as the park. It brought down power lines with it. And if the frantic alarms going off were any indication, there was at least one or two cars that suffered underneath the fallen wood.
Without thinking too much about it, you grabbed Goku's hand tightly and started to pull him away. He didn't protest. What started off as a quick paced walk soon turned into a sprint as you led the Herculean man away from the scene of the crime.
"Why are we running?" Goku asked as you continued to lead him away.
"I don't want to get in trouble for that! We have to get far away!"
"Oh! Okay!"
You were grateful that he understood. What happened next, however, gave you the scare. More so than anything before that point (other than your impending doom of course). Goku yelled out a part of a cloud's scientific name like that was logical. And then after about a block or so of running you weren't touching the ground anymore.
Wind rushed past your entire body that it felt like you were in a fast moving convertible. When you looked at what was happening you realized that you were going towards the sky. Flying, you were flying. You went to scream but all the air seemed to be taken out of your lungs. You cling tightly to the only solid thing you could feel. It took you a few seconds to realize that the only things holding onto you were Goku's arms. Other than that you were just sitting atop a golden cloud.
A cloud. You were flying on a loud. And Goku didn't seem to have any issue with that.
After the instant fear wore off you started to laugh. That in no way meant that you loosened your grip around Goku's arms but at least the fear filled tension broke. Out of courtesy you kept as straight as you could. He might have his arms around you to help keep you on the cloud but that didn't mean you would abandon all sense. You had only just met this person. Although the nip in the air made it really tempting to forget the social norms you kept your back straight.
Flying. Wow. There really was no way to describe the absolute terror, exhilaration, and sense of freedom that came with the realization that you were flying on a literal cloud. The closest thing you could think of was a rollercoaster but even that fell short.
"How far do we have to go?"
"Uh, how far away are we?"
"My house is pretty close now," he answered.
He went to move one of his arms away from your body to show you but you clung to it so fiercely that he stopped.
"Hey, you're safe. Nimbus won't hurt you and I won't let you fall. Okay? It's okay."
"We're flying. In the air. Goku, we're flying. How is this not scaring you?"
The cloud started to decend. Which only made you cling to him a bit more. A lot more actually. Goku tightened his hold around you. He might not understand why you were so afraid but he at least knew that you were afraid. And since you had scooted closer to him, using him like a shield of sorts, he figured that holding you tighter would make you feel better.
"I've been flying on Nimbus for years and years," he said in a tone of wonderment. "Sorry I didn't give you any warning but you said we had to get far away quickly. This was the best thing I could think of."
You tried to understand his view point. You did. It was just that his view point was so alien to you he might as well have been from a different planet himself. You took a deep breath as best as you could as you and he slowed down. Nimbus came to a stop near by a small house.
It was square in shape from what you could tell and very traditionally styled. The roof shape was perhaps the most pronounced thing about it.
"Goku where are we?" You asked as you looked around.
Other than the house, there seemed to be very little in the area that wasn't a tree. Considering the fact that you were just in a city not that long ago, that was a bit startling. You couldn't even hear normal city or billiard sounds. Nor could you smell anything but pine trees.
"We're at my house. I grew up here with Gramps."
He said that he grew up in the mountains right? So did that meant hats where you were. It had to mean that. Everything pointed in that direction. You knew that you'd been flying and going pretty fast but...wow. You were so in over your head.
"Okay, we seriously have to talk. You have some explaining to do because I'm very, very confused."
Thankfully he didn't mind explaining everything. He even seemed to be happy to tell someone else all of the neat things he did. Tale after tale you sat in suspended disbelief. The more stories he told the more questions you had. It was hard to believe everything but considering the fact that you and he had flown to his house. Flown, on a golden cloud. That kind of set a presidence. Still, you had him show you a few of the things that he talked about so it could sink in. Things like the kamehameha. You felt bad for letting all of those trees get wrecked but he promised to cut them up for firewood so nothing went to waste.
When you realized that it was getting dark outside, you called your parents to tell them that you were staying at a hotel because you didn't want to walk home in the dark. They either believed you or they didn't. You loved them but at the moment you really didn't care if they wanted to judge your choices. It's not like you had much time to make bad choices. You turned your phone off so they couldn't track you.
And that was how you were really introduced to the force of nature named Goku.
