Over the next couple of weeks, Lyri would sit outside Broly’s house. Sometimes she had a journal to keep her occupied. Other times, she just sat outside his home. She figured that she’d start getting him used to her presence before trying anything else. One day, she was reading a journal when she felt him next to her. She looked up at him just as he sat next to her. She waited for him to say something, but he didn’t. Lyri didn’t say anything either. It was progress and she was happy about it. She turned back to the journal and continued reading. She jumped up onto her knees and yelled, “What the hells?” Broly stared at her, a confused expression on his face. “Sorry, Broly. I have to go...” She stood and flew off. She landed and practically ran to the king’s office. She burst in unannounced and stared at Nix.
“What’d I do?” Nix asked.
“Did you know about this?” Lyri asked as she opened the journal to the entry she had been reading.
Nix took the book and skimmed though the entry on the page. “Not really, no.”
“Not really? Either you knew or you didn’t!” Lyri snapped.
“I’ve only skimmed through King Vegeta’s things and vaguely remember seeing something that referenced this...culling, I guess you could say. I swear, I didn’t know how bad it was. I haven’t been able to properly go through things. Which is why I asked you,” he told her.
“Do you think Vegeta knew?” she asked, “Never mind. I’ll ask him myself. What were his last known coordinates?”
Nix tapped on the computer and told her. “His last known location was on Tarra.”
“What? He hasn’t left our star system?” Lyri asked.
Nix tapped on the computer again. “Doesn’t look like it.”
Lyri rolled her eyes. “Thanks. I’ll be back with some answers. Hopefully...” She walked down to the science wing and entered the lab. “Hey, Bulma.”
The blue-haired scientist looked up from her work. “Hey,” she said with a smile, “What’s up?”
“Going to go get some answers,” Lyri told her. She held up the journal so Bulma knew what she was talking about.
“Oh,” Bulma said. She took something out of a drawer. “Since we don’t know how long you’ll be...we both know Vegeta can be stubborn...take this. You can use it instead of sleeping in your pod.”
“Thanks, Bulma,” Lyri said. Bulma walked over and wrapped her arms around her. Lyri patted her back.
“Be careful,” Bulma told her.
Lyri nodded. “I will. See you when I get back.” Bulma nodded and Lyri left. She walked down to the docking station. Once there she noticed she was being followed. She glanced behind her and saw it was Broly. “Hey. I have to leave for a bit. Um...we’ll have to pick this back up when I get back.” She started walking towards the docking station again. Still hearing the footsteps behind her, she turned to Broly again. “Unless you want to come with?” He nodded slowly. “Ok then.” They both finished making their way to the docking station. Lyri turned to Broly. “You don’t know how to use one of these, do you?” He shook his head. “Ok...um...I’ll enter the coordinates for you and then we’ll go from there.” Lyri stopped. “With how far we’re going and the way these things work...they’ll put you into a medically induced sleep...if you want to change your mind.”
“No,” Broly said in a low voice.
Lyri nodded. “Ok! So...” She climbed into the pod and entered the coordinates to Tarra, the farthest planet in their star system. She climbed back out and told him, “Ok, to launch, you just hit the button under the keypad. Once we get out of the atmosphere, it’ll put you sleep and make its way to Tarra. It’ll wake you back up when we’re ready to land.”
“Ok,” Broly said in the same low voice.
Lyri nodded and watched him climb into the pod. She quickly ran to another one and got in. She enter the coordinates to Tarra and hit the launch button. She sat back as she felt the pod shoot off the planet. A spray of mist hit her face and she fell into a dreamless slumber.
Three days later, a voice woke Lyri up saying, “Wake up. Now entering Tarra’s atmosphere. Prepare for landing.” Lyri yawned and rubbed her eyes. She sat up a bit and gripped the armrests. She hated landings in the pods. The pod shook as it entered Tarra’s atmosphere but stopped once it broke through. It fell quickly and hit the ground with a loud crash.
“Gods, we need to fix these so we have a softer landing...” Lyri muttered. She opened the hatch and crawled out and flew out of the small crater her pod had made. She look down and saw an identical crater next to hers. She landed at its edge and called out, “You ok?” There was no response but Broly exited his pod and looked up at her. “Guess that’s a yes...” she muttered to herself. Lyri looked around. It had been over ten years since she had stepped foot on Tarra. Why they had decided to build their civilization on a desert instead of this planet with beautiful lavender plains, turquoise skies and thick forests, she didn’t know. Lyri didn’t sense anyone around. She flicked on her scouter. Yeah, there were a couple Saiyans in the distance, but none of them were Vegeta. She opened her comm and tried to get in touch with Nix, but his comm was off. She tried Kakarot.
“Hey. Where’d you go?” he asked when he picked up.
“Tarra,” she told him.
“And you didn’t take me? Mean,” he said.
“Kind of a spur of the moment thing,” she said, “I need you to do something for me.”
“What do you need me to do?” Kakarot asked.
“I need you to look up someone’s last known location,” Lyri told him.
“Why didn’t you ask Nix?” he asked.
“I tried. He has his comm off,” she said.
“Ok. Give me a minute. Let me see if Bulma will let me use one of the computers in the lab,” he said.
“Just use Nix’s computer in his office,” she told him.
“I can’t do that,” Kakarot said.
“Yes, you can. Nix won’t mind,” Lyri told him.
“You’re sure?” he asked.
“Yeah,” she said.
“Ok. Give me a minute,” he said. Lyri waited a minute for Kakarot to get to Nix’s computer. “Ok. Who do you need me to look up?”
“Vegeta,” Lyri told him.
“Lyri...” Kakarot said with a sigh.
“Kakarot, just look it up,” she said.
“His last known location was on Tarra,” he told her.
“He’s not here, though,” she said.
“Don’t know what to tell you,” Kakarot told her, “Call him on his comm.”
“But...never mind. Thank you, Kakarot,” she said.
“Good luck,” he said knowingly, “Stay safe.” His comm clicked off.
Lyri took a deep breath. Her heart pounded as she searched for his name in her contacts. She opened the link between their comms and held her breath. There was the faint click that signified the comms were connected. “Vegeta?” No response. “I know that you can hear me. If you didn’t want to talk to me your should have turned your comm off.”
“What the hells do you want?” he growled.
“We need to talk,” she told him.
“I have nothing to say to you,” he said.
“It’s important,” she told him.
“I don’t care,” he said.
“Vegeta!” Lyri snapped.
There was a an exasperated sigh in her ear. “Fine. I’m on Spes. I’ll send you the coordinates.” His comm clicked off and a second later her scouter’s screen showed her the coordinates.
Lyri read the coordinates. It was about two days away. She jump down into the crater next to Broly. “Hey. So, Vegeta isn’t in the star system. Um...you can go back home if you want.”
“No,” Broly told her, his voice low.
“Ok,” Lyri told him. She climbed into his pod and put the coordinates for Spes in for him. “Do you remember how to take off?” He nodded. “Great! I’ll, uh, see you there then.” She jumped out of the crater and leapt down to her pod. She crawled into her pod and entered the coordinates into the computer. She hit the button for lift off and was soon in a dreamless sleep again.
“Wake up. Now entering Spes’s atmosphere. Prepare for landing.” She sat up slightly and gripped the arm rests but was surprised when it felt like the pod was caught in a magnetic pull. “They have a docking station?” she wondered out loud. The pod gently landed and she climbed out. Broly exited next to her. “Do you want to wait here?” she asked him. He shook his head. “Ok.” She flicked her scouter on and was able to quickly find Vegeta. “Follow me.” She walked in towards him and eventually was able to see him through the throngs of people around her. She stopped in her tracks. Her breath caught in her throat. She mentally shook herself and continued walking towards the man she...no, she wasn’t going to think about her feelings right now. Lyri walked right up to him and looked up into his dark eyes. “Hello, Vegeta.”
