CH1: Duo??
Chapter 1:
‘I wonder where Duo is..’ Heero lay on the open hatch of his gundam and stared up at the sky.
“Zero one... Zeero one! Come in .. Over.”
“This is Zeero one. Reading you loud and clear.”
“This is Wufei Chang. I’m sending you my co-ordinates. We need to talk. It’s about Duo!”

[L2 colony]
Heero and Wufei sat in a little street café in the L2 colony. Heero stirred his coffee with the metal spoon as he listened to Wufei.
“Heero, Duo’s been missing for 3 weeks now, ever since he went to infiltrate that OZ base. Aren’t you worried why he never came back?” Wufei asked with a concerned tone.
Heero took the spoon out of the coffee and placed it on the saucer.
“I don’t think we should worry. We haven’t heard from Trowa and Quatre in about 3 months- and we’re not worrying,” The stoic boy replied.
Wufei finished drinking his tea.
“It’s not the same Heero. We know Trowa and Quatre are on Earth. Many OZ bases were taken out down there. They may not have been in direct contact with us, but we’ve seen them on TV, so we *know* they’re alive. Even if Duo were in hiding, he would’ve shown signs he was alive by now. It’s not like him to avoid us. It’s *definitely* not in his nature not to reply to any messages we sent him either!” Wufei’s voice showed more concern that stubbornness.
“Okay, I admit it’s not in Duo’s nature to avoid us. I’ll check with Hilde and see if she’s had any contact with Duo lately. If we don’t hear from Duo in a week, then we’ll search for him okay?”
Wufei nodded and the 2 Gundam pilots left the café.

[Jim Jim’s hotel: L2]
Heero sat at the small table in his hotel room. He was typing away at the laptop, looking for signs that Duo was alive.
Wufei exited the bathroom and went to see what Heero was doing.
“Any luck?” Wufei asked. The stoic boy didn’t respond. Wufei huffed.
“Nope, I didn’t think so.”
**beep beep**
“It’s a message,” Heero announced.
“Let’s hope it’s good news eh?” Wufei smiled.
Heero opened the message.
Hiya Heero! Long time no speak huh? Miss me? Just writing to let you guys know I’m alright. Just a bit of trouble with my last mission. Forced to go in hiding. Wana do lunch?
-duo
“Sounds like Duo alright.” Wufei said as he finished reading the message.
“Why’d it take so long for him to contact us?” Heero asked.
“Well we’ll get to ask him when we see him. Tell him we’ll meet up with him.” Wufei instructed. Heero nodded and began typing away on his laptop.
Meet at Pierro’s café in center square, L2.
Heero was ready to close the laptop, when suddenly there was a reply.
**beep beep**
Heero opened the message.
See you there baby.
-Duo
Heero’s eyebrows drew closer as he read the message.
“Baby!?” The stoic boy said aloud. Wufei moved from the TV and headed back towards Heero.
“What did you say?” Wufei asked.
Heero turned his laptop around so Wufei could read the message.
“Baby?” Wufei repeated. “Is that some sort of nickname you two have for each other?” Wufei asked, raising an eyebrow in the process.
Heero shook his head.
“Maybe something’s not right. The baka probably hit his head on his last mission.”
The two pilots packed their backpacks and headed for the café.

[Pierro’s café, center square: L2]
Heero and Wufei arrived at the café, but to their amazement, the braided boy, who is known for being late to everything except battles, was already seated and waiting for Heero and Wufei.
“That’s odd.. What’s Duo doing here already?” Wufei asked.
“Hiya guys! Hope you didn’t mind, but I already ordered some coffee for myself while waiting for you guys.” Duo smiled cheerfully.
“How long have you been waiting here Duo?” Wufei asked.
The braided boy smiled as he took off his black worn out cap. He ruffled his hand through his bangs.
“Oh! About an hour!” He replied cheerfully.
Heero and Wufei nearly choked.
“An hour?!” Wufei said loudly.
Duo put his hands on his ears.
“No need to be so loud Wu-man. I’m not deaf you know! Yeah, so I’ve been here an hour.. What’s the problem with that?” Duo asked.
“It’s usually *us* that have to wait an hour for *you* Duo. What’s changed?” Heero butted in.
Wufei smiled.
“Did you hit your head on your last mission or something?” Wufei added.
Duo crossed his arms and huffed.
“That’s it!! I’ve had enough of all this crap!” Duo yelled. “I contacted you guys hoping we can go blow some shit up together.. But if you guys are going to be bullies about it.. I might as well go!” Duo yelled. He stood from his seat, took his jacket and hat, and then headed out the door.
Heero and Wufei sat silently as each customer in the store eventually stopped looking at the Gundam pilots and returned to their own business.
“That’s not Duo.” Heero said quietly. ‘He’d never yell at me like that. Not with so much anger in his eyes. That’s not like him at all,’ Heero thought to himself.
Heero and Wufei both got up from their seats and followed the Deathscythe pilot. When they finally caught up with the braided boy, Heero grabbed his arm and spun him around.
“What’s wrong with you Duo? What happened on that mission?” Heero asked. His usually emotionless voice showed concern for his friend, and sometimes lover. Duo smiled and ruffled his hands through his bangs.
“Ah it’s nothing Heero!” He grinned. “Who knows. Maybe I didn’t get enough sleep last night. Sometimes I get snappy I guess. But I’m back to normal now.. I swear!” He laughed. Heero let go of Duo’s arm.
Wufei stood with his arms crossed, watching the whole conversation between Heero and Duo.
‘Three’s a crowd,’ Wufei thought to himself.
“I’m leaving,” Wufei snorted. He spun around and walked away, leaving Heero and Duo behind at the café.
“What’s up his ass?” Duo pointed to Wufei with his thumb. Heero shrugged.
“Come on. Let’s go.” Heero said.
“Whoah! Hold up Heero!” Duo called out. “Don’t you still wanna eat?”
Heero shrugged and followed Duo back into the café.
Heero sat down and pulled his laptop out of his backpack. He opened it and waited for it to start up as Duo ordered lunch for himself and Heero.
**beep beep**
“A message?” Duo asked as he heard the noise.
Heero nodded. “It’s from the Dr J, for all of us,” he replied.
“Well.. aren’t you gonna tell me what it says?” Duo asked impatiently. Duo watched as the Japanese boy read the message. Finally Heero spun the laptop around and showed Duo the mess
All pilots to assemble at the Peace Million in 3 days. New orders. No excuses for absences.
Duo read the message.
“So what are we waiting for?” He got up from his seat. “Let’s go!” Duo got up and pulled Heero out of the café.

[Peace Million: L3 sector]
“So.. you finally got this old rust bucket fixed again Howard,” Duo joked.
Howard pulled off his sunglasses and wiped them on his Hawaiian shirt.
“I wouldn’t have had to fix it if it wasn’t for you Duo. You’re the one who crashed a Leo suit into us!” Howard scolded.
Duo laughed sheepishly.
“Ah! You know it was an accident Howard!” Duo tried to figure a way to get out of the conversation. He saw Wufei’s exiting the Shenlong.
“Yo Wu-man!” Duo yelled and ran towards Wufei.
Howard stood and watched as Duo ran to greet Wufei. He shook his head.
“Kids..”

Heero unpacked his laptop and placed it on the small round table in his dorm and plugged it into the electric socket to charge.
“Piece of junk. Always going flat.” He scolded at the laptop. Heero sighed and walked over to the old, worn out, fold out bed in the corner of the dorm. He allowed himself to fall face first onto the old and poorly washed mattress. The Japanese boy’s eyes began to feel heavy as he began to fall into a long awaited sleep.
‘Finally. Peace and quiet,’ He thought to himself. Just as the perfect soldier was inches away from slumber, the door swooshed open.
“Go away,” Heero scolded, still lying face down on the bed. He hadn’t moved from his position and had his feet facing the door.
“Mmm.. I haven’t seen that side of you in a while baby!” Duo smirked as he tilted his head, admiring the sight of Heero’s rear end.
Heero turned around and sat up to face Duo.
“Don’t you knock?” Heero asked. His lover was leaning on the doorframe, his braid was tied up halfway, leaving the bottom half loose and flowing. Heero rarely saw Duo’s hair out. He knew it was Duo’s only prized possession and he knew never to touch it, even though he tended to yank on it when he wanted to stir up Duo.
Duo smiled and moved out of the doorframe, allowing the door to close behind him. He’d changed out of his black clad outfit, and was sporting only a pair of dark blue track pants, with his white t-shirt hanging off the side of the waistband of his pants.
“You know Heero..” The topless boy began. “We haven’t had any time for ourselves in a while. Watta you say we have some fun?” He asked.
Heero stood from the bed and walked towards the topless American and stopped inches away from his lover.
“What have you got in mind?” Heero asked. He moved in and kissed Duo lightly on the lips. Duo didn’t return the favor.
‘That’s odd. Usually he’d probably jump me by now,’ Heero thought to himself.
“Come on. I’m hungry. I’ll make you my specialty. Peanut buttnd Nnd Nutella sandwich!” Duo smiled. He lifted his arm, never taking his eyes off Heero and opened the door, hitting the big red button on the wall.
“I’ll meet you in the kitchen in 2,” Duo smiled and exited the room.
Heero watched as the door closed, leaving him alone again.
‘Something’s not right,’ He thought to himself.
