Part IIIII IIIII IIIII IIIII
::: Disaster :::
“Well, everything is not going exactly according to plan, but this is good enough,” Jeremel said as he observed his handiwork. He chained Gohan up in ki cuffs and locked a ki-collar secure around his neck. “It was supposed to be Goku tied up like this, not you.” Jeremel smirked. Gohan was knocked out and didn’t hear a word, but he would sure be in for a surprise upon waking.
Jeremel walked leisurely around the large room of his very private lair, which is located on a planet with eighteen moons and, surprisingly, civilization, although the creatures of this planet aren’t of the intelligent sort. They settle their petty affairs between themselves, food, shelter, nothing about dominance or expansion, and Jeremel went unnoticed on his side of the under populated world. He liked it this way, no one to ask him questions, no one to bother worrying about his peculiar ways or interrupt his proceedings.
He has money, after all, so he can build and stay wherever he chooses, and since he has learned his own version of Instant Transmission, travel isn’t really a problem.
The only problem is what to do with Gohan in the meantime. He could not be let free for any reason, even though he’s not the toy he prefers to play with. For now, though, he feels he has no concerns since if, somehow, Goku and Vegeta find this place, they will immediately turn into giant monkeys, and it will only give Jeremel an easier target.
Of course they don’t understand the full elemental effects that the moon has on him, only he does, he’s the only one like him after all. The moons of the universe act as a catalyst for him; they are the source of all of his power, not just some of it. As long as there is a moon nearby as he gets hurt, he will survive. There aren’t very many places without a moon. Destroying that false moon crippled him more than his injured arm, and he could admit he was surprised by that. Still, he gets stronger every time he gets wounded, and since there was some force of a moon still coming from the planet, they couldn’t blindside him completely like they had on Namek.
He is now at a loss at what direction to take his plan. He could wait out his next move for a few days. He’s been planning this out for decades after all, what are a few more measly hours until he can crush Vegeta’s soul before he defeats him. Without the Saiyans, there will be no one to contest him. Until then, as far as he is concerned, let them sweat.
---
“Vegeta, this is horrible. Why can’t we sense my son? He’s not dead. I would know.”
“Think, Kakarot. Or, I can’t believe I’m saying this, don’t think, and just let it come to you like it’s done before.”
“Mmmmrrrr,” Goku growled, “It’s easier said than done.”
Vegeta was beside himself with anger. How could this have happened?
Goku gave him a sideways glance. “You should have mentioned that you were going to create an artificial moon to me before you did it,” he said for the millionth time.
Vegeta, though that was his intention as he had stated before, replied, “How was I supposed to know the moon gives him power, Kakarot? Maybe you should have mentioned it to me!”
Goku frowned and only said, “All this fighting isn’t helping anything.”
Vegeta’s eye twitched but he said, crossing his arms over his chest, “For once, I agree.” Goku was silent, but Vegeta still added, “Besides, Gohan did manage to hurt him. He’s not as powerful as we think. He’s is, however, extremely in tune to his surroundings.”
“So we should use it against him,” Goku pondered in seriousness.
Vegeta replied, drawing out his words in mockery of themselves to prove a point, “How? We can’t even find him.”
“There has to be a way,” Goku spoke, determined.
They hadn’t returned home since the kidnapping, there was no point in explaining any of it to anyone. Vegeta was under the impression that Jeremel meant for them to follow him, or at least he planned on bringing them to his hideout at some point in time. It was the only explanation for a move so rash. Up until now everything seemed almost planned out. Jeremel knows he may not be the more powerful fighter, so he must be more tactical. Vegeta huffed and scoffed, Not more tactical than me, Jeremel. And the one you captured isn’t as coy as you may think.
“What do you mean?” Goku asked, reading his mind.
Surprised, Vegeta ignored it and said, “Gohan can be manipulative and impulsive if need be, and need has arisen. He will realize that, and in his desperation, let’s hope he finds a way to contact us.”
“How do you know that?” Goku asked. He’s never thought of Gohan in that way before.
Vegeta replied, “I know him.”
Goku’s lips turned into a pout and he resented himself for having never taken the time to get to know his own family. He thought he knew Gohan, his steady ways and soft heart, but Vegeta’s right. There is more to him than that. There’s another side of him, one he’s only seen on the battlefield, but Vegeta’s seen it in person, under normal circumstances.
“What are you so damn upset about now?” Vegeta asked, his eye still twitching as his nerves were ablaze.
“I…” Goku cringed at the thought of saying it aloud, but somehow it came out of his mouth anyways, another skeleton in his closet, “I’m not a good father.”
Vegeta laughed musical notes as he shook his head. “No?” he said and he continued to chuckle, “Kakarot, please, Saiyan fathers aren’t in their child’s everyday lives,” he explained as if it were common knowledge, “They are there when the child needs advice. Your job is to let them know you care, it’s theirs to seek you out when they need you.” Vegeta stopped smiling for a moment and added, “Many Saiyan children never got to grow up with their real parents, but friends of those parents often helped rear the child, anyways, so they would never be without guidance.”
“Then why is he so angry at me?!” Goku suddenly busted out in emotion.
Vegeta could not hide his surprise at hearing the question. He thought Kakarot had no idea Gohan was actually upset with him. This was not a topic he thought he would have to discuss with him, but deep down he’s been realizing many things recently, and he understood now that all topics of discussion must be available with Kakarot if they are going to work. He understood that this is important, and he would not make the same mistakes he did with Renjiamori, so he just came out with it, “He’s angry because you didn’t have to leave; you chose to stay away, because you promised to come back but didn’t say when, and because when you did come back, you never really showed you cared.”
Goku had his own epiphany upon hearing those words stated so simply and he whispered, “Is that how you feel, too, Vegeta?”
Vegeta confessed quietly, dazed by his own ears, “I was mad at first, yes, but how could I begrudge you a choice like that? You did what you felt you must, and though it pained me to see you go, when all I wanted at that moment was to get to know you, I trusted that you would stay true to your word and come back. Like Gohan, I hoped something more would come of us the second time around.”
Goku’s heart grew sad and he thought hard on what Vegeta said. He could only ask, “How come no one told me this before?”
“Would you have listened?” Vegeta remarked and the comment was not lost on Goku, but Vegeta continued in a more serious tone, “That’s all in the past. Jeremel has your son, Kakarot.”
Goku’s face grew stern and he said, “I’m going to get him back.”
::: Fearless :::
Gohan watched Jeremel, calculatingly. It has been at least a week since he woke up in imprisonment and strange have been his days ever since. Although he was held captive, mostly standing upright when it was time to be awake, and being lied down to sleep, still tied up, he was treated with some amount of dignity and respect.
At first, after talking to Jeremel several times, more or less against his better judgement, he found that Jeremel wasn’t the buffoon he looked like. Saiyan indeed, yes, to Gohan’s visual surprise, but he could see a bit of Renjiamori’s people in him, too. The man was a brut in looks, but a bit wayward in his characteristics, a little eccentric and unorthodox. He behaves peculiarly if that’s the best way to describe him.
The only conclusion that Gohan had come to was that he seemed fascinated with Vegeta, almost obsessed, like Brolly with Goku, or The Joker with Batman. Gohan was surprised when he continued to veer conversation toward Vegeta more than anything else. Like a curious fan he asked all sorts of questions. “Pity it didn’t work out between him and Renjiamori,” he sighed once, mumbling to himself, but that was the only time he mentioned Renji, and Gohan’s heart burned. He struggled to contain himself as Jeremel went on and on about Vegeta, wanting to know about his relationship with Goku, his home life, and his hobbies. Gohan, however, held strong to his silence and wouldn’t comply with an answer to any of his questions and although Jeremel became mad, once, he never raised a finger to him.
The worst he did so far was stand awkwardly close and stare at Gohan’s features, going on about how they were similar and how they’ve never known what it was like to really be all Saiyan or all Human or all Likor. He kissed Gohan’s cheek one time and told him that it wasn’t him he was after, but not to worry about anything for now.
Gohan was disgusted but he knew that even with ki restraints on, he was safe. A dead hostage isn’t any good after all, and although he hasn’t figured out why Jeremel intends to lure Vegeta and his father here, he knew that was his aim.
Although his silence seemed perpetual, Jeremel still opted to simply speaking aloud while he was near him, which was quite often, and Gohan wasn’t sure that he didn’t talk to himself, anyways. Still, Jeremel would pretend he responded even though he didn’t, and continue on in casual conversation while he walked about doing whatever it was he decided to do at the moment. Gohan listened in morbid curiosity until he thought to himself that it may be best for him to be compliant just a little in order to find out some information of his own, or better yet, just get free.
He was weak, but not so weak or disoriented that he couldn’t think straight at a time like this. This man murdered Piccolo and Renjiamori, and he will try to kill him too when the opportunity suits him. No amount of feeding him to keep him alive or spending time in seemingly pleasant company was going to eliminate the circumstances and make him complacent or foolish.
He knew it was probably a mistake, but he decided to wait for a lull and then just start out with, “Jeremel, I’ve been thinking…”
Jeremel smiled as he approached him, thrilled to hear him speak after these long days in waiting. “What a lovely voice,” he said in Saiyan sarcasm, and added, “I’m happy to talk about whatever’s on your mind,” in Likor taste.
Gohan didn’t even bat an eyelash as he said, “I know a way to bring Vegeta and my father, here, if that’s what you wish.”
A keen shine glittered in Jeremel’s eyes. “I figured you might,” he chuckled.
Gohan smiled inside, but only said, “There’s a catch you might not like, though.”
“Well, let’s hear it, and you can let me decide.”
Too late to go back now, Gohan thought, and then said, “I can bring them here by allowing them to sense me, but since I’m so far away, they won’t sense me unless they can feel out my ki. I’d have to be set free in order to do that.”
It was Jeremel’s turn to be silent. Gohan was left to his thoughts. He wondered if Jeremel would go for it, and if it was even a good idea in the first place. Then Jeremel smiled after less time than Gohan thought, and he approached him without caution. Again he was informally close, and he said, “What’s to keep you from trying to take me on yourself if I let you go?”
Gohan thought hard, but he couldn’t keep Jeremel waiting for a reply, so he said, “We can make a deal.”
“What deal can you make me?” Jeremel laughed, “What prize is worth so much on both our sides to leave something like this up to chance?”
“I have my own things to attend to,” Gohan replied darkly. “I’ll make you this promise: I won’t lay a hand on you, for my part, and in return, you will spare me, and my plans. How you handle the other two will be more of a chore to you than you think.”
Jeremel smiled at him, and suddenly touched his lips to Gohan’s forcefully. In Gohan’s shock he froze, but Jeremel’s lips left as quickly as they came, and he was saying, “Oh! I couldn’t help it! You promise not to try and fight me, and I’ll promise not to ruin your plans. Fine. You can go, after you get them here.”
A fear struck Gohan and he wondered why it had been so easy. Jeremel stepped away and considered their situation. He quickly took the cuffs off and remained close; attempting to intimidate Gohan with his size, but it wouldn’t work. Gohan shrugged his shoulders and loosened up his body, the feeling of his power returning intensified as it grew, and he let it come to him, and lured in Goku and Vegeta, without a second thought.
They had made an arrangement, and his side of it would soon be done. He only hoped that his father and Vegeta weren’t walking into some kind of trap lead in by his foolish lure.
::: Enchanted :::
Vegeta lay in his favorite spot, atop Kakarot’s chest, listening to him breath while feeling the breeze of the afternoon go by as they bathed in the sun on the soft grass of Planet Vegeta. The lover’s lives were soon to become much more intertwined than simple lovemaking and sweet promises.
Today was a glorious one and no exception to Kakarot’s personal perfection, in Vegeta’s opinion. In their honor they are to receive a welcome and celebration amongst their people unlike anyone has ever known. Wedding bells were literally already ringing, but the significant others’ were too engrossed in their comfort to be bothered by the summons.
“They wish for us to hurry,” Kakarot whispered, a small smile on his lips.
“Who cares, Freeza’s dead,” Vegeta laughed.
Kakarot flipped him onto his back gently, chuckling as he leaned down for a kiss. He replied playfully, “That’s your response for everything lately.”
Vegeta looked into Kakarot’s eyes and replied, “It’s true. I couldn’t be happier than I am at this moment.”
“Your happiness is my happiness, my King. But… perhaps…”
They kissed deeply until Vegeta pulled away and said, “In a hundred million lifetimes I wouldn’t pass up this opportunity, and though hundreds of millions of thousands of possibilities in the universes exist to take us away from one another, I will find you in every one, and be with you, always.”
Kakarot smiled and kissed him again, “and I will always be yours to keep, Vegeta.”
::: Outwitted :::
Goku sensed Gohan first and called out to Vegeta, who was in the river banks bathing at the moment. “It’s Gohan!”
Vegeta sprang from the waters and dried himself to get dressed, only then feeling Gohan’s ki increasing. He looked at Kakarot, who was staring into the sky with pressed eyebrows and a mean glare and he was saying, “Something’s not right.”
“What do you mean? Let’s go!” Vegeta barked, putting on his left boot and the last of his garments.
The moons- they’ll be giant monkeys! When Gohan escapes, he’ll turn into one, too!
“NO!” Goku yelled out of nowhere, “Vegeta we can’t go yet.”
“What are you talking about?” Vegeta replied, biceps bulging.
“Jeremel’s planet is surrounded by moons… He let Gohan go, he’s going to try and trap us there…”
Vegeta considered the words, ignoring the oddity of the information, and asked, “How do we know Gohan hasn’t already transformed? What if-”
“What if he’s in trouble…? I don’t think so. Not yet, anyways.”
---
“Well,” Jeremel smiled wickedly at him, “What are you waiting for? Go, you’re free.”
Gohan stood his ground and replied, “Not yet, they aren’t here yet.”
Jeremel frowned, and asked in doubt of Gohan’s plan, “Can they sense you?” A small fear wrung his gut as he considered the fact that Gohan might be dishonest about his plans, but that would be very un-Saiyan-like.
“I’m sure they can,” Gohan smirked. He didn’t tell Jeremel that he could sense a rise in their ki. Still, he didn’t understand what was taking so long. Finally he said, “Raise your ki, too. I know you know how.”
Jeremel muttered something and then let out a burst of energy, which had no effect on Gohan at all in his current state. “Why should I be doing this?” Jeremel asked, crossing his arms over his chest.
“I know my father, and if he thinks I can handle a fight by myself, he won’t bother showing up.”
Jeremel’s face turned furious and red, and he said, “Really?! Is that so?!”
Gohan smirked at him and held up a hand to halt any thoughts of turning this into a real fight. “We have a deal going, don’t we?” He asked.
“I’ve done well for my part, you insolent ant,” Jeremel jeered.
“I’ve never heard that one,” Gohan answered, letting his smart mouth get the better of him.
Jeremel grabbed onto the collar of his worn, dirty shirt and lifted him into the air for a brief moment before coming back to himself and setting him back down, feet flat on the ground.
“What’s in it for you, anyways?” Gohan asked, unabashed. If he was going to kill him, the question wouldn’t be the reason.
“What plans have you conjured in that head of yours that are more important than this?” Jeremel retorted.
A light went out in Gohan’s eyes as he replied, “You wouldn’t understand.”
With that there was in a shift in the air. Vegeta and Goku appeared out of nothing behind Gohan, expecting a fight to be ensuing, but there was nothing of the sort. Instead they witnessed the two calmly but angrily staring one another down.
Goku didn’t understand and said, “Jeremel!” shaking off the questionable scene, “Your fight is with me now!” He balled up his fist and raised it at him.
Jeremel slowly batted an eye away from Gohan to glance at them. He couldn’t hide his anger at the fact that they hadn’t arrived outside of his castle, but first, he needed to see to it that Gohan kept his part of the deal. He could always toy with him again after everything is said and done. His eyes darted back to Gohan’s and he said, “Well, what are you waiting for?”
Gohan nodded at him and turned to his father and Vegeta and said, “I am leaving. I think you two can handle this.”
“What?!” Vegeta shouted.
“Gohan, no,” Goku’s voice said sternly, a tone so rarely heard from him, it tended to touch the bone down to the marrow. “You can’t leave, not like this. This planet is surrounded by moons. I don’t know why you would need to go, or how you think you’re going to get anywhere, but you won’t do anything but change into the Oozaru form if you walk outside.”
“How did you-??” Jeremel grit his teeth in shock and annoyance and he glared at Gohan.
“I can read your mind, Jeremel,” Goku said, convincingly as he turned to him. Though he was partially bluffing, Jeremel’s face was nothing but surprise and wonder.
Even Vegeta, had he not known any better, would have believed Goku’s lie, but instead he spoke to Gohan and asked him, “What’s your gain here? You made a deal with him? It’s actually FUNNY that you think you’re going to get anywhere anytime soon. Stupid boy.”
Gohan’s gaze turned empty except for anger as he stared Vegeta down, unwilling to discuss his personal biddings.
Jeremel turned to Gohan and said, “Actually there is a ship that can bear you wherever you wish in a very short time. If it is Earth you’re looking for, then it will only take half a day, but, it is outside, and there are many moons to reckon with,” and he smiled, no longer angry that he had been caught, they still had a deal, and he has not broken it.
Gohan smirked briefly, disregarding Vegeta, for Vegeta must know what Gohan intends, and although he berated him at first, he will not argue with him over it later. He looked at Jeremel and then at his father and he said to both of them, “I am leaving. I will stay true to my word,” and with that he ran down the hall, looking for the way out.
::: Scenery :::
Gohan was right, Vegeta couldn’t be mad. He did what he had to do to be released and bring them back into the game, instead of looking for the missing pieces of the playing board.
Goku was pissed at his son for being so irrational, but he had no time to focus on that, now, not with Jeremel smirking and chuckling at the two of them like a snake hissing as he swayed about in confidence about the conquest of his pray.
“I’m so happy that you two could join me,” he laughed evilly, “Would you like something to eat or drink? I have plenty of places to sit, or perhaps you might like a tour...”
“Stop wasting our time, Jeremel. Tell me what your deal is with Gohan, then maybe you’ll have some honorable last words,” Goku spoke forcefully.
Jeremel was constantly impressed with him. He’s nothing like what he witnessed of the man back on Nartal. Now he began to understand Prince Vegeta’s obvious fascination with him. He’s certainly a man of two minds. Jeremel sighed and said, “I don’t know what his aim in leaving is. Our deal was to get you to me, and stay out of our fight, if you must know, he never told me what he planned to do, and I didn’t think it would be of any consequence to me.”
Gohan, Goku thought, What is going on with you?
Vegeta humphed, crossing his arms and said, “We don’t need the boy, anyways. You’re a fool, Jeremel.” Vegeta thought loud enough for Goku to hear, If we do transform, he won’t stand a chance.
You may be wrong, Vegeta… We can’t sense him right now; we can’t sense him unless he starts using his energy… We may not know what we’re truly up against or what he planned to do with us. There has to be another way.
Vegeta was at a loss for words and Jeremel was simply smiling at them. Kakarot is right about him, there’s no way of knowing his plans for sure.
“Now that that’s settled and I see you have nothing more to say,” Jeremel said, interrupting their thoughts, “please, allow me to begin the fight.”
“No,” Goku stalled, “I do have more to say to you, Jeremel.”
---
Gohan ran through the hallways of Jeremel’s mansion in haste but with no direction. He had no idea this place was so big, fortunately it was laid out nicely, and he figured he could luck out and find his way to the ship with a little time.
There were several problems though, with his plan as well as with Jeremel’s house. He was certain his father was pissed and thinking back on it, he hadn’t really made the right choice, or at least, he could have been a little bit more thorough in his execution. One thing is for sure, though, he needs to find a way out, or else he will have to stay and reveal himself, otherwise he could be killed on accident by any of those three once the punches start rolling.
Another problem is that he can see the moonlight through the windows in the castle, and it’s distracting him. The force came on strong the closer he got to each one and just passing them took willpower beyond anything he’d ever experienced. His heart was racing and the idea of staying in the fight was an itch that begged to be scratched.
He thought of Renjiamori. All he wanted to do was bring Renjiamori and Piccolo back to life, and of course, he’ll wish for Nartal and all the others who have been killed by Jeremel in his quest for Vegeta’s penance to life as well. It made so much sense to him, that’s why he bargained for it after all, with those two back, and everything set back in order, Jeremel will realize he’s up against much more than he bargained for. Renjiamori would know just what to do.
How!? Gohan paused and thought, sweating in his struggle to maintain control. After what felt like forever in a vortex, his eyes beheld the very obvious exit to a very obvious ship, but that ship is outside, and he must brave the moons if he is to reach it.
How… He considered all of his options very calmly, though his thoughts whirled through his head, one banishing the other, until he felt a rumbling through the mansion, and knew the first blow has been dealt.
If he is to help his father and Vegeta now, he must bring back Renjiamori and Piccolo. His heart wrenched at his loss, and the Universe’s loss of someone so obviously special. Renjiamori didn’t deserve to die after all this time, and Piccolo’s sacrifice will not go on in vein.
He’s wasting time, standing here in his struggle between wishing to explore his most carnal and wild instincts and following a path which is so unclear, and yet demands his attention, even under such circumstances as these. It’s now or never, a choice has to be made.
In that moment, Gohan’s willpower spoke volumes over any other voice in his head, and a thought just crazy enough to work occurred to him. He reached down behind him and grabbed his tail at the base with a strong grip and he leaned against the wall for support with his free hand. He pulled with all his might. A cry would have shuddered through him if not for the blinding pain removing his tail had caused him, and he went limp, his mouth open in shock, and he tried his best not to pass out, but his head hit the floor as he lost that battle.
---
Jeremel stared at the two with anger in his eyes as he clutched his sore and bleeding jaw. That had been a cheap shot on Goku’s behalf, something Jeremel didn’t think he had in him. He would not make the same mistake twice. He said as he spat blood, “That was low, even for you, don’t you think?”
“Just goes to show you those reports you get on us aren’t always accurate, now are they?” Goku said, standing his ground as he waited for Gohan to make a decision. He’s just standing there! Doing nothing! Maybe he’s changed his mind, Goku wondered.
Jeremel began to perceive that Goku’s head isn’t really in this fight, and so he decided to take matters into his own hands, whether he has given Gohan time to escape or not is now inconsequential. He powered up his right hand and flung several shots out and up, towards the other two and elsewhere.
Vegeta dodged, bringing Kakarot with him. He feared that Renjiamori was trying to separate them, and Vegeta knew this foe could not be defeated with either of them alone.
“Quit worrying about your brat!” Vegeta whispered harshly.
That moment several things happened. The shots that Jeremel fired which seemed in poor aim began to do their trick, and the ceiling began to come apart, the glitter from the moons began to shoot down in beams, and Goku and Vegeta couldn’t help but look up into the ceiling as it seemed to promise to reveal the sky. Vegeta sensed Gohan’s ki spiking and then drop flat and pulse and he couldn’t imagine what was happening to him. As Goku looked entranced by the small glitters of light that became larger, Jeremel tackled him, only, punching Vegeta out of the way as he did, and he threw him onto the same board with which Gohan had been held. With expert hand-work, he locked the ki-blocking collar around his neck, and two more rings around his wrists, knowing that not only would it stunt his power, but it would keep him from transforming, and with that he took off with him, heading anywhere but there.
Vegeta thought to himself, Look away, Vegeta, damn it! Kakarot! What’s happening to him!? Look away! But he couldn’t as the ceiling finally collapsed, and his heart began to pound, he began to transform.
