A/N: there is one thing that I’m going to be using creative liberties with in this chapter. It shouldn’t actually break any of the character canon. I just wanted to let people know that I know some little aspects aren’t part of the canon continuity.
Dragonball: Unforgotten
Chapter Twenty
Deep breath. You reminded yourself, as you dipped on a meal shake meant for body builders, that you needed to keep calm. You looked out of the window to the endless blue sky. After Goku handed you the calorie and vitamin rich shake, he had gone off to talk with Kami.
Which left you with your thoughts. He had just proposed and accepted marriage for you at the same time. It was kind of humorous. You supposed it was a sign of a dominant personality that he just assumed you wanted to get married and made that choice for you. He was right of course. You wanted to get married to him.
You knew that at this point you were married to him in everything but name. Officially he’d only been your boyfriend for less than two weeks (assuming you hadn’t been unconscious for long this time). But you had been living with him for months now. You trusted him with your life and you were willing to sort through all the challenges and oddities. Heck, you’d even considered lowering your self imposed reproductive age from mid to late twenties to your beginning twenties. Which was saying a great deal you felt.
“Okay! It’s all set! Kami is going to marry us.”
You looked to Goku with wide eyes. He was getting someone who was effectively a god of sorts to Earth to perform a wedding ceremony. You sat the empty glass down as your stomach turned over nervously.
“Let’s go.”
“R-right now?”
Goku nodded. “Yep.”
“Goku, I’m a mess.”
He frowned; you could still tell that he thought so too. “No. You look pretty.”
“Goku,” Kami said as he moved into the room, his wooden staff proceeding him. “Go change into some clean clothes. Let me talk to her for a minute.”
Goku hesitates. You watched as he reluctantly agreed to what Kami said. You shifted nervously as the old not-Dino man walked closer to you. You averted your eyes from his probing yellow gaze, looking anywhere you could other than that very strange, very alien appearance of his. He might have helped to extend your life twice now but that didn’t mean that you were used to such nonhuman looking creatures so quickly.
“He has asked me to marry the two of you. Is this what you want.”
You nodded. “Yes.”
“Even though you’re dying and he might not make it back in time?”
Your breath hitched in surprise as you looked up towards the sagely guardians face. Alien. Had to be. Aliens existed tight? Ride-able clouds existed, the afterlife existed, so why not aliens? Was it rude to stare?he looked so strange that it was hard to look away.
“I love him,” you said. “He wants to marry me so that he knows that I know he will try to keep his promise to save me.”
“Hmm yes, Goku has always shown an aptitude for trying to help those who need help the most. Regardless of what it could cost him or the dangers involved.”
Ouch. That was a nice way of being realistically cruel. He wasn’t telling you anything you didn’t already know. This whole thing really could just be him wanting to be the hero and not even realize it.
“I...I get that he might not actually love me. That this could just be his hero side wanting to save me. I get that. And I know he might fail. But what if he didn’t fail? What if he does love me? I think we deserve to try. And if he doesn’t love me then I won’t hold him back. He’s a good man. He deserves to be happy.”
“That is very kind of you,” Kami said after a moment of silence. “Let’s assume he does care for you. If he finds the balls and wishes that you are healthy, then you and he can live a long life together. But have you considered what your death will do to him if he fails? Goku is a good man. He will wish you back in an instant but the dragon can only do so much. He can only bring you back to life in your body. And I can not replace organs that are still there. Not can I change your genetic code. You will come back just as you are, more or less. You may have a few years with him but you will die. And Shenron can only bring people back once.”
You sat in silence as you let that sink in. Damn. Damn. The world was so messed up. It wasn’t fair. But right now the only thing you could do was have faith in Goku.
“If...if he doesn’t make it in time could you make a different wish? If that’s the case don’t let him wish me back. Have it so he can move on and be happy again okay? He told me that there’s an actual after life. I’d rather be there and know he’s happy then come back like this and watch him fall apart with me.”
“I will see to it.”
“Thank you. I’m sorry for being so much trouble. I never meant to be so much trouble.”
“You are not. Now come, you have a wedding to get to.”
You nodded as you stood up weakly.
“Oh, one more thing. Would you mind if I gave you a gift? It’s not everyday that we have a wedding on the lookout.”
Awkwardly you nodded. You flinched back when you saw his clawed hand move out. A beam of light shot out to envelope you. Almost instantly you were changed out of you convalescent type of clothing. Instead you were in a form flattering, formal gown. It wasn’t over the top but it was very beautiful. The fabric was perfect and it was even done in your favorite color combination.
“Oh wow,” you said as you looked down.
Kami smiled kindly. Or what you assumed was kindly. You thanked him more than once before you and he started walking off to where Goku was.
“Would you like traditional vows or would you like something more suited to the situation?” The guardian of earth asked, his wooden cane clicking against the white tile of the lookout.
“I’ve never been very traditional so…” you let your sentence trail off.
There wasn’t much more to say as Goku finally came into view. He was next to a small strip of green on the man surface of the lookout. He was in a fresh Gi and with the way the sunset lit him up from behind he looked like an angel. Your very own warrior guardian angel.
Next to him was a man who looked like he was wearing a stereotypical genie outfit. But e was completely and utterly black. Not like a racial trait so much as he looked like his skin was dyed with the darkest of inks. He even lacked the distinction of bone structure as far as you could see. Wow. The world had a lot of different sentient species that you never expected to see.
Kami took his spot as you walked over to Goku. Said man smiled with such an infectious amount of glee that you felt like it was contagious.
“You look so pretty, I can’t even tell that you were crying earlier.”
“Should I start crying now?” You asked him, raising an eyebrow at him curiously.
Goku shook his head, his mass of hair swaying with the motion even after he was done. “No! I like seeing you smile.”
“Good. I hate crying.”
Kami cleared his throat. You ducked your head in embarrassment as a blush colored your cheeks. You mumbled an apology because you knew that you had been wasting his time.
You listened to a small speech about the sanctity of marriage. Of how it was a bond and a union. Not just of the body but of the heart, mind, and soul as well. You looked all around Goku’s face as Kami continued to talk. You looked for any sign that this wasn’t what he wanted. But you found nothing. He looked at you with such admiration and joy that it made you feel butterflies in your stomach.
A movement from Kami startled you. Goku reached out to help steady and reassure you that everything was all right. He didn’t have to say a word as it was all conveyed through touch. You smiled brilliantly at him as you felt his hand on your arms.
“This red cord symbolizes the union of marriage. It will always bond the two of you together. Reminding you of your commitments to one another through troubling times.”
As he spoke, Kami loosely tied your non-dominant hand and arm to Goku’s. The silk like rope seemed to have no trouble flexing and moving around. Almost as though it had a mind of its own.
“And while the cord may fade, let us pray that the union it symbolizes never does.”
Simple, yet enchanting. You smiled so much that you thought your cheeks would split. Kami pronounced you and Goku as man and wife. And he signaled for the traditional kiss. Which was tender and full as Goku held you in his arms. Even once the kiss was done you stated there feeling very peaceful. The other two wondered off as you simple enjoyed your husband’s embrace.
“What now?” Goku asked in a happy voice.
“Traditional we feast and then we’d go consummate the marriage,” you said as you buried your nose into his clavicle. As you felt his uncertainty. “Consummation is when a newly married couple go have sex.”
“Oh. But…”
You shifted nervously. “I know. Don’t worry. I figured that was out.”
“When you’re all better,” Goku promised innocently. “So do we go eat?”
“Yes.”
“What do we do after? I don’t think this rope is supposed to come off right away.”
“Well what if you tried showing me how ki works? I promise nothing but...if this goes well...I did say I would train with you didn’t I?”
And just like that you made his night.
