Scene Twenty Four
"Lord Zarbon! How kind of you to grace your presence among us." Said the admin Saiyan as he hurriedly got off his seat, walked around and in front of the registration table and gave Zarbon a slight bow.
"Tell me Saiyan, is this a circus?" Spoke Zarbon dryly, clashing so much with his silky timbre as he looked around the clearing smoke.
The admin winced at the last word as he quickly threw En a glare.
There was not a murmur when Zarbon spoke, everyone was so focused on the ruckus that they did not notice that he had already been in the building when the fight took place, but when they hear him, it was like a silencer had been lodged in their throats.
Him again? What is he doing here? Thought En, who got affected by the stillness in the air, her eyes following Zarbon's moves. Please don't tell me he's here to take me back! The thought ran down her spine and up and instinctively made her lower her stance.
"I beg your forgiveness Lord Zarbon, I was only carrying out my duty to ensure that only the top crop gets passed and not time wasters, as you can see here this third class sand rat isn't making the process any easier for us." The admin rose to his defence quickly and gestured impatiently to the guards to stand up and form a formation around En once more.
Zarbon turned around slowly and faced indirectly at En and gently tapped his scouter button. He stood there tapping it for the next thirty seconds, his features remained stationery, before he turned around fully, slowly made his way towards En as the guards lined up in parallel behind her. As he got closer to her, it took a while before En remembered to stand up straight as part of her training when in the presence of superiors, and when she did, she realised just how tall he loomed over her, his scouter still beeping sharply.
"Where were you stationed?" Inquisited Zarbon as he studied her through the raspberry pink scouter lense, his tone laced with authority.
"Sector 768, Lord Zarbon." She hated having to act properly around authorative figures, but she knew that this is her future that she was gambling with.
"That's where the third class Saiyans are stationed, this is reserved for the elites, what makes you think that you are worth it?" Asked Zarbon, his eyes narrowing.
En was not expecting that reply and she felt her face going red, at that moment she could not be sure of which was it that she felt more, anger or humiliation.
No, do not screw this up, do, not, screw this up. She thought.
She cleared her throat before she continued.
"Lord Zarbon, my rank may be third class, but I am unharmed from all the damages these guards had tried to inflict on me, so I believe that the evidence speaks for itself." She replied slowly, wincing every word to ensure each of them carried its own equal weight of importance while not letting desperation escape her tone.
To her, this room did not exist, let alone the rest of the Saiyans, this was between her and this figure of authority. While trying to make her expression as neutral as possible, En tried to read any signs of approval from the jade haired alien, but there was no indication.
"So you barge in here without a scouter, refused to register at the desk, and opposed the staffs that carry the duty under your King, this behavoiur is below that of a third class, and if you were working for me, I would have you killed immediately. A soldier is of no value if they cannot follow orders." Said Zarbon, his stance remained unmoved.
En felt like someone just lashed across her face with a leather-clad whip dunked in salted water, what felt like a heavy dull sensation began to spread across her face followed by a dense sensation of heat. At that very moment, she felt her mind shut down on her and the effort of coming all the way here seemed like a joke. While she had destroyed her scouter so that she could avoid being found by Bardock and her teammates, she was not expecting it to be the key component that would hinder her progress.
My life has ended when it has hardly begun, she thought to herself.
I'll never get out of here, I'll always be stuck on this planet and he'll laugh at my attempt to leave every single day as long as I live. If I leave on a spacepod, they'll track me down or blow up the planet that I'm on, that's it.
"What does it matter to you to be an elite?" Zarbon shot her a question, snapping her mind back to reality.
En opened her mouth and closed, then opened and closed again. She felt stupid like a fish gasping for its last breath on a seamonger's market stall, before she expelled the answer out of her lungs.
"EVERYTHING!" She scared herself from her sudden reaction, of all people in front of him. She heard her own echo resound throughout the dome building as she, in a panic clasped her mouth.
This is it, it's either being dead right here and forever remain a joke to these snobs, or remain a laughing stock back there. She thought to herself.
She closed her eyes tightly as she threw her hands down to her side with her head down and felt the blood rushing to her temple.
"Very well." She heard Zarbon spoke quietly and felt his immense presence moving across the room, his steps were confident and made no more sound than necessary, each distributing his weight gracefully like a mountain lion.
She heard the guards moved back in unison steps as she felt him close in on her from behind.
This is it. She thought to herself.
She felt the blood rushing faster to her temple, the pounding sound is gaining more volume than the outside world. She felt his warm, powerful hand lift up her chin and brushed her left bang behind her ear. The sound of a small mechanism unlocking was heard. En felt something warm but rigid being fit on her left ear. She opened her eyes and saw raspberry pink.
"I will grant you entry under the condition that this scouter stays on you throughout the tournament, unscathed." Said Zarbon as he proceeded to walk towards the inner room without waiting for En to reply.
She did not know how to react. The temperature was still warm on the scouter and it did not help that her head was still burning from the inside.
What just happened? She thought.
