"Rest now."
Piccolo whispered, brushing his gentle fingers over her hair as she rested on the pillow. She closed her eyes and took a deep breath. The Namekian kissed her forehead as he let her drift off to sleep. He tossed his shirt and shoes to the floor as he made himself comfortable. He slipped out onto the terrace. His lilac eyes gazed at the sky. The universe shined differently here than it did on Earth. Pinks, greens, blues, and everything in between seemed to melt together. Silver specks were scattered about the colors, sparkling as brightly as the two moons that hovered overhead. Piccolo took in the night air, filling his lungs with its freshness. He never turned around as chills ran down his spine, sensing the presence behind him. He leaned his palms against the railing of the terrace.
"Let me ask you something, Green Man."
Piccolo looked back at the Saiyan, planted in the brass chair. His crossed feet were on the glass table.
"What's that?"
He crossed his arms and leaned his back against the railing.
"Is she getting better?"
Vegeta never looked up at him.
"I mean,"
He tried his best not to sound concerned.
"Is she getting stronger?"
"What?"
Piccolo squinted at him.
"Did you see her today?"
He was not expecting an answer.
"She was amazing! Every move she made was so instinctive! If no one else is there, but her, to have my back, I know I'll be perfectly fine."
Vegeta squinted at him as Piccolo smiled.
"She was brilliant."
The Namekian shook his head.
"Of course she's getting stronger. She's been working her ass off and it shows."
His lavender eyes met Vegeta's dark ones, realizing he had gotten carried away.
"You love her, don't you?"
Vegeta never took his eyes off of him.
Piccolo sighed and shoved his hands in his pockets.
"Drop it, Vegeta. You and I both know that her and I aren't..."
His voice caught in his throat as he took a breath.
"I love her..."
Piccolo said very matter-of-factly.
"I will love her forever..."
He looked at her, sleeping in the next room.
"I'm not an idiot though."
He announced.
"I know better than to think that her and I could ever be more than we are. She will never stop loving you."
His purple gaze met Vegeta's dark one.
"I only wish you would realize just how, worth it, she truly is. Not everything is about getting stronger, Vegeta."
He looked back at the sleeping Saiyan woman.
"You have to be at peace with yourself before you can be at peace with anything in your life."
"She will get over it and me."
Vegeta stood up.
Piccolo smirked and shook his head.
"You'll never get it, will you?"
Vegeta raised an eyebrow at the Namekian.
"Goku is stronger than you because he fights for more than himself. He is a protector. That's why we are here. She is stronger than you because she is a protector. It's what she was born to do and I think, with a heart like hers, you've figured that out."
Piccolo looked at the Saiyan prince.
"As long as you are only worried about your strength, you will never understand."
Without another word he opened the sliding glass door.
"Piccolo..."
This was the first time Piccolo had recalled hearing Vegeta say his name. He looked back at him.
"Thank you for taking care of her."
He raised an eyebrow at Vegeta.
"It's my pleasure."
He slipped inside. The night air fluttered through the room making the curtains flow. Piccolo quietly shut off the light and slipped out of the room.
Vegeta watched her. Piccolo was right, she was amazing. She seemed so peaceful as she slept. He looked around the dark and empty room before reaching for her. His fingers brushed against her hair.
"I'm sorry."
He whispered.
She shuffled around on the bed. He froze in the darkness.
"Piccolo?"
She sleepily reached for his figure. She caught his hand and pulled him to her.
"Lay with me. I don't want to be alone."
Part of him wanted to resist. Part of him wanted nothing more than to slide in next to her. He let her pull him to the bed before she froze. The moon light sparkled in her eyes as she examined him.
"Vegeta?"
She whispered.
He nodded.
"What are you doing?"
He ignored her question.
"That night... At Krillin's party... I never intended for that to be a one-night stand, Giana."
"What do you mean?"
She sat up.
"I never wanted it to be a 'one time' fling."
His dark eyes were lost in the darkness of the room.
"I..."
He swallowed the large lump in his throat.
"I have always loved you, Ana. I still do."
She could feel her heart pounding in her throat.
"Vegeta..."
She leaned over and clicked on the lamp next to the bed.
"You left me on Earth. You never intended to tell me you were leaving and never did say where you were going. Now, I finally find you, again, and you were set to get married tomorrow! You would have if I hadn't have come here. You were going to go through with it! You don't love me! You can't love me!"
She jumped from the bed.
"You're too busy loving yourself!"
He could feel his rage building with every word. He had just confessed to her something that he would never confess to anyone else.
"Did you not hear me?"
He shouted back.
"I heard you, Vegeta! Get out!"
She growled.
"Leave! It's what you do best!"
"I leave because I have to!"
"You leave because you think it's going to help you!"
Angry tears formed in her eyes.
"You leave without a second thought about what you are doing to others or how you are hurting them!"
"Them?"
Vegeta squinted at her.
"Me!"
She screamed.
"Get out! Run away! Go off to the next place and sleep with the next woman that can give you something material!"
Vegeta laughed through the pain in his chest as it continued to grow.
"What's so funny?"
She glared at him.
"That look on your face."
He smiled.
"What?"
"It's the same face you made when I didn't tell you that I loved you the morning after I fucked you."
He laughed.
"You look so sad. It's pathetic really."
Giana screamed. He had pushed her too far. She shot a kai blast at him.
Piccolo threw the door open just in time to knock her next blast off course.
"What in Kame's name is going on here?"
"I'll kill him!"
She screamed.
"What did you do?"
Piccolo looked at Vegeta, his eyebrows knitted together. He grabbed Giana's hands and pushed her against the wall. She fought to get her wrists free from his grasp.
"Let me go!"
She kicked at Piccolo.
"Calm down!"
He pressed his body against hers.
"Stop!"
Piccolo shouted at her. Tears started to roll down her cheeks as she fought him.
"It would be best for you to leave, Vegeta!"
Vegeta watched her as the Namekian calmed her. He held her hands above her head with one arm and held her body still with his own. Tears rolled down her cheeks but she seemed to be fighting less as he spoke to her. His large green hand slid against her cheek, brushing the tears away. He whispered to her. His forehead pressed against hers. His eyes never left her. The Saiyan watched the pair intently. It was clear that the Namekian had grown to know her in a way that Vegeta had only dreamed of. Although, not knowing how to calm her was only at the fault of him. The pain in his chest grew. He shivered as Piccolo rested his hand at her waist. She was no longer fighting him.
His lilac gaze shot at him.
"Why does it always have to be like this? Why do you always have to try to hurt her when she doesn't bow down to you?"
Vegeta was silent.
"When you truly love someone, Vegeta, you don't try to hurt them! It's what you try to avoid!"
He turned his attention back to the Saiyan woman.
"Relax."
Vegeta would never admit it but he was embarrassed. Piccolo was right. Every time he even suspected that he wasn't going to get the response he wanted, he made it a point to turn their conversation into a fight. He slipped from the room and to the terrace before disappearing into the night sky.
Piccolo watched his figure disappear out of the corner of his eye.
"Relax, A."
He kissed her forehead before pressing his own to hers again.
"He's gone."
"Why does he do that?"
She sobbed.
"Why does he treat me that way?"
"You don't deserve it."
He whispered.
"You're better than that."
He placed one hand at her cheek again.
"You're better than this. You don't want to kill him."
She shook her head.
"Why can't I stop loving him?"
Piccolo sighed. He tucked her hair behind her ear and looked at her with sad eyes.
"I don't think you'll ever stop loving him, A."
He muttered.
Giana leaned against the wall as she looked up at him, trying her best to stop crying.
"My heart hurts."
She whispered.
"I know."
He whispered back, releasing her hands. Her arms fell limp to his shoulders. She pulled him against her and hugged him tight. His strong arms wrapped around her. She took a deep breath, taking in his comforting scent.

Vegeta clutched his chest as he fought back his emotions. This pain was familiar but much more intense than he had remembered. He held his breath as he made his way through the sky and to the balcony of the bedroom he once shared with the princess. He landed and flung open the double glass doors.
"Vegeta..."
Fidella squinted at him.
"What are you doing here? Why are you bleeding?"
Vegeta looked at his shoulder. Giana and hit him with her blast and he hadn't even realized it. He shoved his way to the bathroom. His hands shook as he wetted a towel and covered his right shoulder. His mind raced.
"Fucking bitch."
He growled as he patted the blood off of his arm.
"Stupid fucking..."
His nostrils flared.
"Bitch!"
He shouted, punching the wall next to him.
"Stop it!"
Fidella appeared in the doorway.
"What is going on?"
She yelled.
"Out of my way."
He shoved past her and to the closet. He pulled open the doors and reached for his clothes. His side of the closet was empty. His chest tightened. He braced himself against the frame of the closet. He looked down at the floor.
"Where are my things?"
"I packed them for you."
The grey eyed woman studied him.
"I packed them so you could leave."
His jaw tightened.
"Who said I was leaving, Fidella?"
He managed through clenched teeth as he tried hard to put a lid on the rage that had built inside of him.
"I... I guess I just thought..."
Fidella sat on the bed next to the bags of his things.
"With you wanting to be with that Saiyan..."
"I never said I wanted to be with her, Fidella."
He breathed as he slowly turned around. His eyes were glowing but a shade of black she had never seen before.
Fidella pushed herself back to her feet, nervously, never taking her eyes off of him.
"I guess what I'm saying, Vegeta..."
She looked down at her fidgeting fingers.
"I'm asking you to leave."
"You want me gone?"
His tone was flat.
"You'll never be as happy here as you would be with her, Vegeta."
She tried to calm her shaking voice.
"I thought that you would be happy to go."
Vegeta took a few slow, large strides toward her.
"I... Um... I just want you to be happy, Vegeta."
She managed. Her stomach churned as he grew closer. She tried her best to hold her ground and not show him how truly terrified she was.
"I think it's time for you to go home. "
"I don't even know where 'home' is anymore."
He growled as he grabbed his bags. The door slammed as he left the room. His heart ached, though, he wasn't sure if it was because of Fidella or Giana.
