Pull the Trigger and the Nightmare Stops…
“dear my friends in the time we've spent forever after beyond this when will our nightmare ever end?
pull the trigger and the nightmare stops...”
Part 26
“Hello,” said Trowa, answering the demanding ring. “What’s up, WuFei?” Trowa paused and listened for a moment.
“Let me get a pencil and paper so I can jot down the address,” he said, fumbling in the drawer of the side table.
Quatre gave him an inquiring look and Duo looked casually at the text he had just received, then stood and headed for the bathroom.
Once inside that small sanctuary, he quickly slipped the small com unit into his ear. He pulled his hair loose, giving his head a shake to fluff it out and mentally began to prepare himself for what was starting. He could hear Trowa saying something to Quatre, then the jingle of keys. He didn’t even flinch when he heard Heero's voice in his ear.
“Two minutes, babe. You ready?” Heero asked. Duo flushed the toilet, then ran the sink taps, muffling his reply.
“Shinigami’s on,” he told Heero quietly.
“You know that I’m going to be here with you the whole time,” said Heero, trying to reassure himself as well as Duo.
Duo heard the front door close and he knew that it was now or never.
“Right with you, love,” was his soft reply to Heero. Then he was moving. Shinigami was on.
He walked back into the lounge and looked at Quatre, a smoldering look in his indigo eyes.
“Where did Trowa go?” he asked. He had no idea what kind of diversion they had planned. That hadn’t concerned him. All that had concerned him was his immediate job.
“Oh, WuFei's car broke or something. Trowa is going to pick them up and give them a lift to Sally's place so they can get her car. He said he’d only be about an hour or so,” Quatre told him, completely believing the story.
Duo made his move. One hour. Now he just needed to get Quatre into his room and into a protectable situation. He sat down on the couch next to the blonde and dropped an arm around his shoulder.
“So, hotstuff,” Duo almost purred, “want to see what it feels like to be with Shinigami?”
Quatre just sat and stared at him, shock silencing him until Duo's mouth came down on his neck. Then he let out a startled squeak.
“Du… Duo… what… what are you doing?” Quatre stuttered.
“I see you looking at me. I know that you wonder what it would be like to be with Shinigami,” Duo replied in a low, sultry voice. “I’m just giving you the opportunity to find out, now that we’re all alone.”
He moved his mouth from Quatre's neck up to his ear with a series of small kisses. The he began to whisper between little nips and kisses.
“Don’t say a word. I want you to do exactly what I tell you… no questions… This is life or death,” Duo whispered. “If you understand, I want you to moan out my name.”
“Ahhh… Duo,” Quatre moaned. He was so confused. He trembled in the other’s arms. Duo was scaring him, and he was afraid to do anything that might set the other off. He couldn’t believe that Duo was acting this way. Sure, they had flirted, but that was all it was, flirtation. Quatre couldn’t believe that Duo had taken him seriously.
“Good,” whispered Duo. “Don’t be afraid. I’m going to protect you.”
“Trowa?” Quatre managed to get out. Were was Trowa when he needed him the most? Duo said he was going to protect him, but from what, or who? And who was going to protect him from Duo?
“Don’t worry about him,” Duo replied in his sultry voice, moving to capture Quatre's lips with his own. He continued after a brief kiss. “He’ll be busy for a while. We have time.”
Then Duo stood and pulled the confused Quatre into his arms, only to whisper to him again.
“Your life depends completely on doing exactly what I tell you. Heero, ‘Fei and Trowa are waiting to back me up, but right now it’s just you and me,” he told Quatre quietly, hoping to settle the blondes mind. He could tell that Quatre was just a bit freaked out at the moment.
“Duo, get him moving, babe,” Heero told him. “The clock is running.”
“Let’s go to my room, hotstuff,” cooed Duo, pulling away from Quatre and taking his hand. “We can have a little fun…”
Quatre was stunned, to say the least, and followed Duo docilely, not knowing what else to do. His mind was racing. This couldn’t be a joke. Trowa would never stand for a joke like this. And Heero certainly would never forgive Duo for doing something like this while he was gone, so it must be real, no matter how much of a nightmare it was starting to become.
Once Quatre was in Duo's room, the long haired assassin closed on the blonde once more. He needed to get Quatre in a safe position, and soon. They had so little time. At least Quatre wasn’t resisting, or questioning Duo.
“Come on, hotstuff, let’s see what’s under those clothes, shall we?” asked Duo, dropping a kiss to his neck as his hands began to deftly undress the unresisting Quatre. The blonde was too numb with fright to resist anything, his mind in too much shock to question anything.
“I’ve seen you looking at me. Every since that party, I’ve seen you watching me. Well, here’s your chance of a lifetime. You’ll be the only other person in the world who can say that he’s been with Shinigami,” Duo said seductively. “Isn’t that what you’ve always wanted? What you’ve always dreamed about? A night in Shinigami’s arms?”
Quatre only moaned in response as his shirt fell to the ground and Duo pulled him closer. Then Duo's mouth was on his ear again.
“I don’t have a lot of time to talk, and we can’t say anything out loud. There’re bad people out there who want you dead, and I’m gonna see that it doesn’t happen,” whispered Duo in between nibbles and licks at Quatre's ear. “I want you in my bed and under me. I want you pretending we’re really into each other. Make it real. When the shit hits the fan, I want you behind me and I don’t want you to move for any reason. If you understand, say my name.”
“Duo,” gasped Quatre, his hands going up to grasp Duo's upper arms. Dead? Someone wanted him dead? Quatre began to pant in his fright, unable to comprehend the situation fully, only knowing that he really wanted Trowa right now, and Trowa was gone.
“Good,” said Duo. He seemed calm, but Quatre could feel him starting to tremble under the strain. When he spoke again, there was a slight edge to his voice. “We’re getting real now. I’m gonna start talking to Heero. Feel free to respond appropriately. Let’s make it a good show, okay?”
“Ah, Duo,” Quatre gasped again as Duo's hands slid down to grasp his butt, kneading it for a moment, then moving up to the waist band of his pants.
“Alright, then, babe?” asked Heero, catching the tremor, knowing Duo needed to be controlled and it was going to be a delicate situation long distance.
“Ah, so good,” responded Duo. He knew that seconds counted. “Let’s get undressed and into bed.”
“Okay,” gasped Quatre, slipping out of his pants and starting to pull off his boxers. In spite of himself, he found that he was getting aroused by Duo. Duo caught his hands and shook his head slightly, before he turned to shed most of his own clothing. Quatre stood uncertainly, waiting to see what Duo would direct him to do next.
Duo shot him a sultry look that was almost enough to make the frightened boy think that this was all a dream, but when Duo threw the covers off of the bed and slid between the sheets, holding out an arm invitingly, Quatre knew it wasn’t a dream. Duo's flesh on his own was all too real.
Duo pulled him close, pushed him onto his back and moved over top of him, lips coming down to claim the blondes. His hand, meanwhile, slid up under the pillow under Quatre's head. Quatre flinched as he felt something hard and cold come to rest next to his ribs. Then he felt another hard object nestling up against the opposite hip. Duo was arming himself.
Satisfied that everything was where he wanted it, hardware wise, Duo turned his attention to Quatre. He lay half on top of the trembling blonde, but was careful to ensure that neither his arms or legs were entwined with the others, so as to be able to move freely and quickly when he needed to. Satisfied on that point, as well, Duo began the process of seducing Quatre, making it seem as if the two of them were too caught up in sexual bliss to notice anything going on around them. But he wished that it was Heero that was here with him right now. This was harder that he had expected it to be.
“Oh, god, talk to me, baby,” Duo rasped, wanting to hear Heero's calming voice, “so I don’t lose it too soon.”
“Oh… ahhh… Duo, don’t stop,” moaned Quatre, trying his best to sound like it was feeling good.
“Take it easy, babe,” Heero's voice sounded soothingly in Duo's ear. “It’s going good so far. We see them starting to move.”
“Oh, baby,” Duo groaned into Quatre's shoulder, then bit down, inadvertently leaving a small mark.
“Duo,” Quatre cried out, startled at the sudden ferocity that Duo showed.
“Calm down, babe,” said Heero. “We don’t want to damage the merchandise. We need to return it in the same condition as we got it.”
Duo chuckled into the crook of Quatre's neck at Heero's attempt at humor. It was just what he needed to relax himself.
“Sorry, baby,” Duo mumbled. “Just got a bit excited.”
“It’s okay,” responded Quatre, running his hands up Duo's back.
“It’s okay,” echoed Heero. “Just don’t get too rough with him.”
Duo started to kiss Quatre on the neck and shoulders, running a hand down his side to check that the weapon was still nestled at the blonde’s side. Quatre started to writhe and moan, making it sound as if Duo was really getting him excited.
“He sounds hot, babe,” said Heero, just a tad bit jealous of the blonde that was at the moment in the arms that he himself longed to be in.
“So good, so hot,” responded Duo. “Ah, baby, you’re all that I want…”
“I know,” replied Heero. “Soon. I promise, soon.”
“Ah, Duo,” Quatre cried out as the gun at his hip poked him and he moved away from it slightly.
Duo chuckled and checked it’s position again. He was so ready, he was about to snap. Soon, Heero said. Soon. The word beat though his blood in time to his pounding heart. Soon.
“Babe, they’re in,” came Heero's voice, now taught with urgency. “Get ready, it’s going down now!”
Then the door to the bedroom slammed open. Two hulking bodies blocked the light that streamed in from the hallway.
“What the fuck?” growled Duo, starting to roll over, left hand sliding to the knife under the pillow, the right grasping one of the guns from beside Quatre.
“Party’s over, girls,” smirked one of the goons. “Say good night.”
As he started to lift his gun, Duo finished turning and the hand that had been under the pillow flew out and the silver blur of a knife was tumbling at the goon, burying itself to the hilt in his throat before he knew what was happening. Before the second gorilla could react, Duo had his Glock out and fired, hitting him squarely in the chest. The man blinked in surprise, then joined his comrade on the floor.
Duo had, by now, turned completely and positioned himself over Quatre, using his own body to shield the shaking blonde. Quatre grasped his waist and tried his best to stay hidden behind the long-haired assassin.
In the blink of an eye, two more thugs sprang through the door. Duo fired unerringly and they followed their fellows to the floor, but not before one got off a lucky shot. The shot hit Duo in the right shoulder, the bullet burying itself just below the collar bone. Duo recoiled against Quatre and dropped the gun from his now numb hand.
“Duo,” Quatre screamed, and he tried to worm his way out from under the other, but Duo recovered himself quickly.
“Stay where you are,” Duo hissed through the pain, grasping Quatre's wrist and holding him in position.
“But Duo, you’re hurt, you’re bleeding,” Quatre protested, tears running down his face.
“Do what I say,” hissed Duo once more. “Give me your hand. No, your right hand. Put pressure on that. Now, just hold it.”
With Quatre's hand on the wound, and Duo's body pressed back against Quatre's chest, some of the bloody flow was staunched, but still it seeped from between the blonde’s fingers. Time was of the essence now. Duo knew that he wouldn’t have long before he was too light headed from loss of blood to function properly.
Duo thought he could hear more people in the hallway, and sure enough, one more thug entered, followed by a smaller, dapper man, who smirked at the thought of the two helpless young men on the bed in front of him waiting to die at his hand. So arrogant were they, they didn’t even have their weapons drawn. That was a big mistake, underestimating Duo Maxwell.
“While the cat’s away, huh?” the man smirked. “Getting a little on the side, are we?”
“You got a lot of nerve, interrupting a guy while he’s trying to get some,” Duo smirked back, buying time with his banter as his left hand slid down under the sheet that was covering the two of them from the waist down.
“Too bad you didn’t get off before we kill you. It was last chance you’d ever have,” the grinning man returned, and he reached a hand inside of his jacket for the gun he carried there. “It will be my pleasure to see the end of the Winner empire, and of you, Duo Maxwell. You die tonight with someone else in your bed.”
While the man continued to gloat, Duo's other hand found the second gun that was nestled at Quatre's hip. With his left hand, he pulled out the gun that Heero had given him so long ago, and got off two rounds before the surprised man could get his own weapon out of his jacket. The shocked look on his face was almost enough to make Duo laugh. Obviously, he didn’t know that Duo could shoot with either hand with deadly accuracy. The confused goon, who had never even drawn his own gun, followed his master into quiet oblivion a second later.
Then a wave of pain overcame Duo as the adrenalin drained from his body. Duo slumped back against Quatre, who was still trying to apply pressure to the oozing wound.
“Duo, you’ve got to let me look at your shoulder,” Quatre begged him. “You’re losing too much blood.”
“No,” snapped Duo. “You stay just where you are. Heero? Baby?”
“Got you, sweetheart. Hallway’s clear. I’m almost there,” Heero's comforting voice sounded in his ear. “Stay with me, babe.”
“Heero… hurts, please hurry,” Duo begged.
“I’m here, babe,” Heero replied, ignoring the shots that he could hear coming from outside the house. He only had thoughts for his long-haired lover right now.
“Okay, babe, I’m right outside your door,” Heero informed him. Heero could hear the pain in Duo's voice and it was almost killing him. He wanted to run to Duo's side, but training and protocol stayed his step.
“Heero!” came the shaper voice of Simon from just behind him. “It’s clear, what are we waiting for?”
“Stay back,” said Heero in a low voice. “He’s hurt and he’s scared and he’ll shoot first, ask questions later.”
“So what do we do?” demanded Trowa from behind Simon, the fear in his voice for his blonde angel clear.
“Duo, baby, I’m waiting,” Heero called out, and Duo could hear his voice both in his ear and out in the hallway.
“Heero?” Duo answered, a quiver in his voice.
“I’m waiting, babe,” said Heero again, knowing Duo would understand, even if no one else did at the moment.
“Heero, what was it that Treize said to us on the day that he married us?” Duo asked, almost whimsically.
None of the others understood, but Heero knew what Duo was really asking him.
“Baby, he said ‘Where there was once two, now there is one. Now that your lives are joined together, only death can ever truly separate you. You will never be free of each other from this moment on.’,” Heero replied, giving an answer that only Duo would know to the question he had asked.
“Ah, Heero, I need you,” whispered Duo, slumping further back into Quatre as blackness overtook him.
