Bulma sat behind Lyri, tinkering with the ki suppressor around her neck. “Sorry again about this...”
“That’s like the eighth time that you’ve apologized,” Lyri told her, “You don’t need to apologize, Bulma.”
“I do, though,” Bulma said, “Because of this, you died.”
“But I don’t blame you. You just did as you were asked. Had you know what it was going to be used for, you wouldn’t have made it,” Lyri told her.
“Well that’s for damn sure. Think I’m almost done...” Bulma said, “So why’d you wish everyone except us back?”
“Because the planet was going to be destroyed and you couldn’t do anything...no offense,” Lyri started.
“None taken,” Bulma told her.
“And with this damn collar on me, I’m powerless,” Lyri continued, “So, I figured it’d be better to send them back and leave us. We’d only be in the way.”
“Makes sense,” Bulma replied, “Guess the dragon sent everyone else back, too.”
“Guess so,” Lyri muttered. There was a click from the collar and it fell off Lyri’s neck, landing in her lap. She picked it up and crushed it. A sudden sound from within the ship caused them both to jump. “I thought you said the others went with Vegeta and Kakarot.”
“They did,” Bulma told her.
“Are we sure that didn’t come from outside?” Lyri asked.
“Almost completely sure...” Bulma replied.
Lyri was quiet for a minute as she tried sensing the ship for any ki other than Bulma’s. She gasped. “Bulma get a med kit!” She took off through the ship, skidding to stop when she found what had made the thud. She grabbed the man under his arms and dragged him back to the galley.
“Oh my god! Is that Nix?” Bulma screamed.
“Where the hell’d he come from?” Lyri asked.
Nix opened his eyes a bit. “I think the better question is...where the hell’d you come from?”
“Hell,” Lyri told him, “Now shut up before you bleed out.”
“Don’t tell me how to not die,” Nix mumbled.
Lyri rolled her eyes. She got up and grabbed a rag and began wiping the blood of him. Bulma places the med kit on the ground and opened it. She went behind Lyri, stitching up what needed to be stitched and helping her bandage him up. Nix had passed out while they were working on him.
“Should we move him?” Bulma asked.
“We should, but I’m not going to. He’s heavy when he’s awake and now that he’s passed he’s going to be heavier” Lyri told her, “I’ll help him move when he wakes up.”
“That’s if he wakes up,” Bulma said.
“He’ll wake up,” Lyri told her, “It might take a while, but he’ll wake up...hopefully...”
The two women tried to make the Saiyan man as comfortable as they could. It was a week and a half later that he was conscious enough for Lyri to help get him into a room. “What happened to you?” she asked as she helped him get into bed.
“Got caught between Frieza and Vegeta’s blasts. Couldn’t get out to save myself...” Nix muttered.
“So, how’d you end up here?” she asked.
“I honestly have no clue,” Nix told her.
“I have a lot more questions but I’ll let you rest some more,” she told him, “Bulma will be in later to change your bandages.” She then noticed that he had fallen back to sleep. She shook her head and left him to rest. It was hours later when Bulma poked her head in the room.
“Hey. You awake?” she asked, “Probably not. Gotta change your bandages though.” She walked over to Nix and started taking the old bandages off him. She was surprised at how well some parts of him were healing. In fact, she had been able to take most of the stitches out already. Other parts...she picked up one of his hands, carefully unwrapping it. He hissed in pain. “Sorry,” Bulma whispered. She carefully rubbed some burn ointment on his hand and rewrapped it. She did his other hand, slowly so as not to cause him more pain. When she was done, she held his wrapped hand for a moment before bringing it up to her lips and pressing a kiss to it. Nix’s face relaxed and Bulma smiled a bit. “I’ll come back to check on you later...” she whispered before leaving.
Meanwhile...Kakarot walked into the palace and headed to the conference room that Vegeta had turned into an office.
He didn’t understand Vegeta’s reasoning for not using the office that his father and Nix had used. Something about not sharing a room with those bastards...even if they were dead.
He opened the door to the office and walked in. “Hey, king,” he said with a smile.
Vegeta glared at him. “What?”
“What are you doing?” Kakarot asked.
“Kakarot, get to the point,” Vegeta snapped.
“Ok. We should send someone to bring Lyri and Bulma back on one of our ships,” Kakarot told him.
“They are on they way back. So, no, for the hundredth time, I’m not sending a ship for them,” Vegeta muttered. The thought had crossed his mind many times. Compared to their ships, Bulma’s was pretty slow. But he couldn’t justify doing it.
“But if we send someone for them, they’ll get here faster!” Kakarot exclaimed.
“Gods damn it, I already said no!” Vegeta yelled.
Kakarot grumbled and crossed his arms. “Tch. No wonder they like Nix more...” he mumbled.
Vegeta stopped and slowly looked up at Kakarot. “What?” he asked through gritted teeth.
“I mean...well...he did get the Saiyans back from Frieza. And was planning a counterattack just in case Frieza backstabbed him...” Kakarot told him.
‘I would have done the same had I been here!’ Vegeta angrily thought, ‘If I hadn’t gone to Namek...’ He growled but Kakarot continued.
“Not only that, but how you got rid of Nix was low...even for you. And now that you’re back, you just walk in like nothing happened. Like you didn’t leave for seven months,” Kakarot told him.
“You know why I left...” he snarled.
“Yeah, but the people don’t,” Kakarot told him.
“Get out...” Vegeta growled.
“What?” Kakarot asked.
“Get out or I will throw your stupid ass out!” Vegeta roared.
Kakarot wanted to yell at Vegeta but bit his tongue and left, slamming the door behind him.
Vegeta couldn’t think straight. ‘If I hadn’t tried to play the politics...If I hadn’t asked her...If she hadn’t died...If I hadn’t gone to Namek...I could have done everything if we hadn’t bonded! If it wasn’t for her...”
