"I'm not laughing at you, Kakorr," he said softly. "What you experienced..."
::It's not the blood,:: Kakorr stammered, misunderstanding, trying to explain, ::and its not the sex - although that was great,:: he quickly added. ::It's - it's all this...:: He gestured around the room. ::It - it just - fits...::
Vegeta smiled patiently as Kakorr tried to make himself clear. It had to be very difficult for him to explain - after all, this was something you just knew.
::I do understand, Kakorr. Before...you knew where you were born, but it didn't seem to really apply to you. It was just a word. You were...a human who didn't fit.::
"Humans actually have a word for it - epiphany. A...a spiritual flash that changes how you view the world," Vegeta said thoughtfully.
Kakorr gave a hesitant smile. ::You felt...?::
Vegeta nodded reassuringly. ::I don't think you are stupid.::
"I'm a Saiyan," Kakorr whispered.
::You are a Saiyan.:: Vegeta smirked at him and tangled his fingers in tousled spikes, drawing him closer. "Saiyan," Vegeta purred, and ignoring the audience of inn patrons, captured his mouth. He heard the enthusiastic cheers and banging on tables, and encouraged, growled in pleasure, attacking Kakorr's tongue with his own.
"Oi!" the innkeeper bellowed. "If you plan on keeping that shit up, get a room!"
Kakorr started to growl at him, but Vegeta noticed the tip of the innkeeper's tail flicking and stopped him.
Vegeta turned and smirked at the man. "Jealous?" ::He's joking, Kakorr. That's what his tail said.::
"Damn biyaku blood," the man muttered to himself before grinning back. "Nah. But if you two keep that up, these fools are going to get horny and want to start fucking each other. If that happens, I won't sell anymore food and the stew will go bad."
"Ah, just ignore Ryo," a woman said. "His stew is always bad. He's just pissed because his partners went to the city on business and left him with an empty den."
"If my stew is so bad, Kayi," the landlord retorted, "why are you always so willing to eat it?"
"Because it is the only meat of yours I'm willing to eat, Ryo," she snapped, laughing.
Vegeta smirked as the room erupted again, tables bouncing with the pounds of approval.
"You know, we are going to have to get you an outfit like this when we get home," Vegeta purred, trailing his fingers over Kakorr's exposed chest.
Kakorr grinned and flexed a bicep, obviously enjoying the feeling of the leather strap tightening against it.
Since they couldn't clean up in a river - drinking water was too precious - Sakka sent them to this inn. They traded the remains of the biyaku for a bath with hot, acceptably clean water, a meal, and clean clothes.
He had protested at first - it was foolish to get clothing. After all, they couldn't keep it, but Kakorr insisted - they couldn't keep the biyaku either.
Vegeta had to admit he like Kakorr's choice of clothing, especially when he began stretching and flexing in the tight leather pants and harness. His own outfit was equally tight, but not quite as revealing. His vest covered more, but Kakorr's hands kept slipping beneath, touching him.
"You'll get no argument from me," Kakorr said with a smirk.
--------------
Goku served himself another bowl of the seemingly endless stew. He never thought half of a dead animal could be so valuable. Not everyone was willing to risk getting killed by the jihibiki - getting that close was the only way to catch a biyaku. Vegeta had done the haggling, even managing to keep the tail and some of the teeth for later.
"V-" He stopped himself. It was so difficult not to say his name out loud when there were others around. He never realized before how much he said his prince's name until he couldn't say it. "Ummm..." What was his name? Vegeta was laughing at him.
"Kairiki!"
Vegeta grinned. "Yes, Kikon?"
Goku laughed. "Wrong! That's the book. I'm Shinbou."
Vegeta smirked. ::I don't know what I was thinking when I gave us those names. This just didn't seem real.::
He could feel Vegeta's amusement. They kept forgetting who they were. ::Maybe I should just call you 'Hey you, with the thick tail'.::
Vegeta raised his eyebrows. ::Now that you are Saiyan you are a smart ass?::
He grinned back. ::I don't know if it is smart, but you seem to like it.::
::Still fishing for compliments...:: "So what were you going to ask before you forgot to whom you were speaking?" Vegeta smirked.
"What are we eating?"
Vegeta stirred the stew, studying the items that floated to the surface and shrugged, amused. "I have absolutely no idea."
Goku finished his bowl and leaned back with a satisfied belch. "I can't believe I'm full and there's still food left," he sighed contentedly. Vegeta was still eating, but it was obvious he was slowing down as well.
"It's the innkeeper's business to have enough available to feed an entire pack of Saiyans. The two of us are no problem."
"This is great - I wish we could stay," Goku said, looking around the room.
"I know. So do I. But we can't." ::I think we are running out of time.::
Goku could feel Vegeta's desperation although he was doing a good job at hiding it. Their ki had dropped slightly - not enough to make a difference, but they could tell. He wondered how long they had been in the room. Too long without food or real sleep was sure to affect their bodies. "I'm sure the Rouba will be back soon."
Vegeta grimaced. "I hope so."
Goku grinned, changing the subject. ::This is so...cool. I don't look strange here. There's guys - and girls - who have hair that sticks up weird like mine. And there's a kid over there who looks just like Mirai Trunks, but his hair is different.::
Vegeta smirked as he twisted around to look. ::Your hair is supposed to stick up, Baka.::
Goku was surprised at the growl Vegeta made.
::Damn it!:: Vegeta cursed. ::That's the prince.::
::The one who ran away? How do you know?:: Goku tried not to stare - now that he took a closer look he saw the boy was a younger version of Vegeta - right down to the wild mop of hair.
::You said it yourself - he looks like Trunks. What is he doing here?::
Goku studied the young prince for a moment before making a decision. He nodded to himself and rose to his feet. ::I'm going to find out.::
Vegeta watched with shock as Kakorr went to talk to the prince and the innkeeper. ::Kakorr, what are you doing?::
::I think we were meant to meet him. I mean...there are lots of Roubas, but only one prince, right?::
::But...Kakorr...::
::Trust me, Vegeta.::
He could only watch hopelessly as Kakorr held a conversation with the two. He recognized the determination in his lover and knew there was little chance of stopping him once he had made up his mind. Kakorr soon came back, talking and laughing with the boy.
"This is Yasai," Kakorr said. "I've invited him to eat with us."
::I don't know if this is a good idea, Kakorr.:: If the guards found them with the prince, they would be detained - there was a risk of running out of time.
::Sure it is. Didn't you say you didn't know the real reason he ran away? This is your chance to find out.::
::But...I'm related to him. He's going to recognize-::
::Quit worrying so much. It will be fine.::
Vegeta sighed. Kakorr was a force of nature when he wanted to be - and he was dead-set on having the prince join them.
::You win, Kakorr.::
Kakorr grinned, tail practically wagging. ::Yep.::
"Sit down, boy," Vegeta said, studying him through his bangs. There was no doubt in his mind he was related - although to his eyes he carried himself more like Trunks - young, eager and trusting. Life hadn't been a hardship or a constant battle. He didn't have the scowl Vegeta had seen in his own mirror for so many years.
He had nearly smirked at the name the boy had chosen - Yasai. It was a play on their name - in his time guards used it as code when referring to him, so others around wouldn't know whom they were talking about. Maybe that was because of this Prince Vegeta.
Kakorr started filling the boy's bowl. "This is Kairiki," he said, flicking his tail at Vegeta. ::I remembered.::
"Thank you for this," Yasai said, nodding politely. "As I explained to Shinbou, I have no funds to pay."
"Don't worry about it," Kakorr said, placing the food in front of him.
::He was trying to get some work to pay for a meal - I think he hasn't eaten much in the past few days. Is it okay to give him what's left, or should we get more?::
::He's Saiyan, Kakorr - he's always hungry. Go ahead - if it bothers him, he is a fool.::
"We're already paid for this pot and we're done eating," Kakorr continued smoothly. "I hate to see food go to waste."
Vegeta noticed the boy's hesitation. ::Kakorr, put some in your own bowl and take a few bites. It's a custom - based on threats of poisoning.::
Vegeta cursed to himself when he realized the boy was studying him as he ate. The brat probably noticed the resemblance. Hopefully he wouldn't say anything.
"You're not from around here," Yasai said.
"No," Vegeta said shortly. "Neither are you."
Yasai shrugged, but didn't answer. Vegeta was sorely tempted to just ask the boy what in the hell he thought he was doing, but Kakorr's tail curled loosely around his own convinced him to wait.
"We're waiting for the Rouba to return," Kakorr said brightly. "We're going to be mated soon."
"That must be nice to be so close to someone. I'd be happy just being able to bond with someone I chose," the boy said, miserably.
"You're still young," Kakorr said. "I'm sure you will meet someone someday."
"I already have. It's just-" Yasai began.
"Do they know?" Kakorr asked gently. Vegeta just sat back and watched. He never understood how Kakorr did this. He just met the boy and he already had him talking as if he was someone he could trust. What was it about Kakorr that brought this out in others?
The boy frowned. "Yes. But it doesn't make a difference. My father is making me pair with someone else."
"Is that why you ran away from the palace?" Vegeta snapped. "Because of a pairing?"
"Yes!" Yasai snapped back before his eyes suddenly went wide. "How did you know?" he whispered.
::Calm down, Vegeta. You're scaring him.::
"It's okay, Yasai," Kakorr said soothingly. "We're not going to turn you in or anything. You can keep eating or leave now if you want."
Yasai scowled. "I'm going to have to go back soon anyway. I don't like hiding from Jiei; I don't know how I'm going to break this to him. And the other guards have almost caught me a couple of times. I hate it! I feel like a prisoner! They don't let me do anything!"
Kakorr grinned. ::Did you catch that? I'll bet he's in love with one of his guards.::
::He is. It isn't unusual - look at Radditz and me.:: Vegeta answered, passing his tail over Kakorr's arm reassuringly.
"Like what, boy? You are a prince - pampered and coddled. That's a soft prison, if you ask me," Vegeta said.
Yasai sighed. "I know I am - but I don't want to be. I can't be protected and shielded from everything. I want to learn how to hunt and fight. How can I provide for my people when I can't even provide for myself?
"I hadn't even realized what a problem it is until now. This is the first time I've been out on my own. I know my father is just trying to protect me, but how does he expect me to rule when I don't know what life is like outside the palace?"
"I'm surprised your Rouba permits such foolishness," he said. His Rouba would have berated his father for it - a prince should never appear weak.
"I don't have a Rouba," the boy answered, confused.
"Then who teaches you?" His own Rouba had been at the palace seemingly forever. He used to sit in her den, listening to her teachings, the bones in her hair clicking as she stirred the stew pot. It was a sanctuary.
"I have tutors for math and history and stuff..."
Vegeta sighed. "You don't even know the difference between pairing and bonding, do you?"
"No," the boy said hesitantly. "I tried to tell my father I was in love with someone and he just said it didn't matter..."
"It doesn't, boy. Even your age doesn't really matter, since a pairing is merely a symbol. You aren't even expected to have sex with them - although it isn't uncommon for a pairing to be the beginning of a stronger bond. It is tied to a treaty; you will go through the motions of a joining, but it is purely political. You show up for certain social and political functions together, but unless you desire more, that is about it," Vegeta explained, more patiently than Goku thought he was capable of.
Goku was impressed with Vegeta - his prince had changed more than anyone could have anticipated - himself included. He took his time with Yasai, explaining how he could still fall in love and create his own family pack while honoring the treaty. Goku grinned when he realized the boy was actually insulted at the suggestion the ensadame might not want anything to do with him - he was the prince, after all.
"Egotistical idiot," Vegeta growled. "Arrangements like this are the price of your title. Sometimes you have to do things you don't want to for the sake of your people."
Goku was fascinated listening to Vegeta advising Yasai. He constantly emphasized duty and obligation. He had never seen this side of his prince - he had never realized how much he truly cared for his people. Goku had heard him repeat 'Prince of All Saiyans' many times, but to him it was just a title. He was only now realizing how seriously Vegeta took that title. He had accepted that responsibility at a young age and had never forgotten it. After everything they had been through together, Goku sometimes forgot he had been brought up to rule a planet.
He thought of him as 'his prince', but did he really understand what that meant? He studied Vegeta as he spoke, trying to look past the friend, the lover, the warrior to see the royalty inside. The rumble of his voice, the gravel that slid from a growl to a purr and back - Vegeta made the title of prince sound like a living, breathing thing. He was the prince. Even after Frieza had taken his people from him, Vegeta felt a duty to them. He struggled to uphold the honor of the crown; even now it was something to be protected and cared for. His prince. Goku was positive Vegeta would have been an even greater king than Yasai without Frieza's influence. He would have been remembered and praised for generations to come. Goku would have been proud to follow him. His Prince.
"No one is asking you to go through life alone," Vegeta continued. Goku wondered if he would ever speak to Trunks like this. He doubted the 'old' Vegeta would have been capable of it. "You are expected to provide an heir and you are physically incompatible with the ensadame. Your father knew this - which is why he said it didn't matter. Just remember you are responsible for protecting the honor of your people."
"No one told me."
Vegeta sighed. "No - but you could have asked someone before running away like a fool. A Rouba would have explained. You really should have one, boy. She would keep you from pulling stupid stunts like this. You've thrown some delicate negotiations into upheaval. You will need them someday boy, and they see your running away as a great insult - that their ensadame is unworthy. There is talk of war. We would win on strength, but the loss would be valuable allies and technology."
::I don't think I've ever heard you talk so much, Vegeta.::
Vegeta grinned, blushing slightly at being caught being social. ::Baka. It's this or beat the boy over the head.::
::So what happens? Does he go back? Does he fall in love with Jiei?::
::Sap. Yes Kakorr, he goes back. The histories say he brings a desert pearl to the ensadame, using the hunt for it as the reason he left.::
::What's that?::
::Just like Earth oysters make pearls, so do jihibiki. He gets his hands on one of the largest ones. He and the ensadame eventually join together to remove his father from the throne. He ends up becoming one of the great kings. He had a knack for choosing advisors and allies. His first priority was always making life better for his people. He was admired by his subjects; as a child I wanted to be like him.::
::And Jiei?::
::You are a sap, Kakorr,:: Vegeta grinned. ::The records say he became First in the royal pack.::
::Good. I like him.::
Vegeta smirked. ::You like everyone, Baka.::
"Hey you two!" the innkeeper bellowed across the room. "Rouba just flew by!"
Vegeta nodded. Finally. He kept fighting the urge to warn Yasai about the mistakes that led to disaster in his own time.
"We have to leave," he said. He hesitated for a moment before placing the biyaku tail in front of the prince. "Here brat. Take this. It should keep you fed until you are ready to go back."
"I can't take that," Yasai protested. "It's too valuable. You've given me too much already."
"Accept help with grace, boy. Ask for it when you need it. Offer it when you can. It's a difficult but rewarding lesson to learn." Vegeta smirked at Kakorr's beaming smile. ::I know, I know, Kakorr. Took me long enough to figure that out.::
::Sap,:: Kakorr laughed.
Yasai hesitated before rising to bow formally. "Thank you for everything you have given to me. I will think about what you have said."
Vegeta acknowledged the gesture and waved the boy back to his seat. He felt a tug on his tail as a spike of alarm shot through Kakorr.
::Vegeta - by the door.::
The innkeeper was arguing with someone at the entrance, and they apparently weren't willing to take no for an answer. One of the larger customers - he was bigger than Nappa - had decided to get involved and was blocking the path of the intruder.
"I'm tellin' ya, ya' fuckin' little maggot, ya' ain't welcome here."
"You have no idea whom you are speaking to. Let me pass."
"All yer gonna pass is my foot. Rouba kicked yer ass out. We don' like yer type."
Vegeta scowled. He could see tails flicking in anger and the scent of aggression was building. There was going to be a fight soon at this rate.
"Damn him," Yasai muttered. "He's a pest."
"You know him?" Vegeta demanded.
"Yeah - he's a negotiator for the ensadame," Yasai said, trying to make himself smaller.
"That's not good, boy. If he gets to you first it will look like you are trying to break the treaty. You have to get to your guards and go back voluntarily," Vegeta said. Several friends of the self-appointed bouncer joined him, but it seemed no amount of Saiyan mass could deter the pest.
"Let me through! I know he is here!"
"Go ta hell, ya maggot. I don' care who yer lookin' fer, ya ain't getting' by." The Saiyan lifted his opponent overhead, obviously preparing to throw him out. Vegeta got a better look at the idiot as he glanced around the room desperately before the bug's eyes fell on Yasai.
"He is here. Put me down."
Vegeta growled as the bouncer gently set the Osekkai on his feet. The innkeeper's protests were suddenly silenced and everyone blocking his path stepped aside letting him into the room. Vegeta bristled. He could feel the waves of ki surrounding the bug, seemingly pushing against the others. The Osekkai had done something. They had underestimated the threat - this Kai could control people somehow. He was suddenly positive it had been an Osekkai who tried to use Kakorr to strangle him.
He cursed to himself as Kakorr's brown eyes met his in shock. Vegeta hadn't wanted Kakorr to ever find out about his attempt to kill him on New Namek.
::Later, Kakorr. We have to deal with him now - he is dangerous.::
Kakorr nodded and stood, blocking the Osekkai's path to the table.
"You are in my way," the pale bug said.
"What do you want?" Kakorr demanded. Vegeta nearly smirked. He could hear the growl building. Vegeta could feel his fury over what had happened on New Namek. Kakorr was now flickering - struggling to keep his power level down to an acceptable norm. He was acting fiercely protective and Saiyan at the moment - add that to the wish that removed the Kais' influence and the little insect didn't stand a chance.
"I am going to take the prince back to the palace."
"No," Kakorr's tail was positively bristling. Vegeta could feel the Osekkai trying to push him and saw the surprise and confusion when the attempts failed. He must have tried the same thing on the Rouba - which was hopeless even without the wish.
"You cannot stop me," the Osekkai said insistently. "He has to go back."
Vegeta understood why the Rouba hit him - it was going to be a race as to who was going to do it this time. Kakorr's fists were clenching and unclenching as his growl began to be audible. Vegeta couldn't believe the arrogance of the fool. Didn't the bug know he was in danger? Didn't he care?
"Go to hell," Kakorr growled.
"Get out of the way," the bug demanded. "I am not about to let a spoiled monkey ruin all of my hard work."
"Look," Yasai whispered. "It's my fault this started. I'll go back."
"Shut up, brat. This bug is not getting near you," Vegeta hissed, never taking his eyes off the confrontation. They had to keep the Osekkai off-balance - if he was capable of controlling the others enough to fight the prince would be at risk. At least he couldn't control the boy himself - his tutors would have taught him techniques to help prevent that.
"The boy will go back when he is ready," he said, rising to stand beside Kakorr. There was no telling what the Osekkai would do to the prince if he got him alone. The boy was in danger here - he remembered reading about some strange accidents and assassination attempts during this time. Guards had died trying to protect the prince.
"He-" The Osekkai suddenly turned paler, if that was possible. "No. It can't be. You're not supposed to be here. It's not time. We're not ready," he sputtered, backing away.
Kakorr grabbed the bug with a snarl and twisted his arm behind him, trapping the now-panicked little Kai between them.
"What are you talking about, you disgusting little insect?" Kakorr hissed in his ear.
Vegeta could feel Kakorr's rage. He was furious about being used against him. Kakorr's behavior was more aggressive than he was used to, but he could sense him tapping into their bond. Kakorr was deliberately accessing Vegeta's more violent tendencies.
"He's - he's the one in the prophecy. You have to stop him," the Osekkai squeaked, squirming in his grasp.
"What prophecy?" Vegeta growled, twisting the bug's other arm when he felt him trying to reach someone else with his waves of ki.
"The - the Destroyer. You're the Destroyer," the Osekkai whimpered.
"Only fools and weaklings believe in prophecies," Yasai snapped. "We make our own destinies."
The Osekkai twisted his head to look at the boy, obviously intending to argue. He stopped, mouth open, and looked at Vegeta again. "He's... You're..."
There was a spike and a twist of ki and the Osekkai vanished.

Vocabulary
For this story, I'm including some vocabulary. (And yes, I'm aware some people hate this. Did it anyway.) These are real words, but you don't need to know what the words mean as you read the story, since I use most of them as character names. But knowing what I meant when I chose that name should add something to your reading, I think.
Word - dictionary definition - (How I'm using it - who it is or meaning intended)

First - awesome news! I have a site for my stories and pictures now. Kethry has been kind enough to build a site for me - Pixelgoddess' Closet. http://moondragonlair.com/pixelgoddesscloset/index.html It isn't quite done - the epics take a long time to code. But all of the pictures and short stories are there. Now you can see all of the artwork drawn for me in one place! If you want to draw more pictures for me *begs* I would love to add them.
-----------------
Webtester01 - Here's more - lots more. So much more it took me three weeks. Oh my aching fingers. *g* The next chapter is already in progress, so hopefully it won't take as long.
Macha - Yes, they have been underestimating the little maggots. Meddling... They have a problem and a plan - parts are finally being revealed. I don't know if I made it totally clear here, but it will be made more obvious in the next chapter - the Osekkai can't influence the Rouba. She is blocked, which is why she could throw him out. I've never been to a desert, but I can see Vegeta being at home in one. Goku is more forest/woods.
fyrbyrd - Oh, I would never turn a lemon into a cliffhanger. That's mean. *g* But I do love my cliffies - makes you squawk 'WHAT!!!'
Maria - I really thought it was necessary there. Goku is going through something as a result of the blood, the hunt, etc. He has been rejecting something of Vegeta without meaning to. When he opens up and accepts it, it affects him. At that moment, that was the only way he could express it.
Enya - You are forgiven, little one. *g* I hope you got up from the floor, otherwise I am sure you are quite hungry. Go to the link for my new site http://moondragonlair.com/pixelgoddesscloset/index.html and you can see all of the pictures. All of the artists have given their approval to post.
Goheh - Waiting for you to show up at my doorstep so I can show you my loving prowess. *Falls on the floor with laughter* I stuck with the closet...I don't know why - I guess because it is dark and you can hide all sorts of twisted things there - like my stories. *g*
Galaxy-of-cinders - *Wonders why she doesn't get propositioned by girls she knows.* 'I know! Before I start talking to them, I'll hand them chapter 26. Read this. Then we'll talk. When they swoon, I will sweep them off their feet." *Yes, I am hopeless.*
Yuki_eiri - *Licks lips* Yes, that was good, wasn't it? smirk *bows* Thank you, thank you - ass kissing is always appreciated.
William Givens - Thank you for the thoughtful review. I will say...no, the Kais will not mate with the Saiyans - it isn't in their plans. Chichi in the show starts out okay, but becomes dreadful. I tried to take her from there and make her mature. My Chichi was incredibly hurt and lonely - when she stops feeling so totally sorry for herself she begins to realize she isn't really alone. I hated Saiyaman Gohan - but then again, I never really liked him. He is a bit of a dork - he can't help it. *g* If you've read this chapter, you see there is a bit of trouble in the past.
Plyric - I'm glad you came back and caught up. I don't think this chapter will leave you gasping as much, but hope you like it.
LadyKATT - Sorry it took so long to update. This chapter was just so long. I didn't want to chop it up, so it took some time to finish and edit.
Moonlight-6056 - Oh look! An nfiction review! Thanks - I see these stories as a big jigsaw puzzle. There are so many elements I want to include and make mesh together. My view of Vegeta-sei is solidifying as I write - I think the little things are just coming out without me trying.
